1 Gasoline Engine problem of the 2005 Dodge RAM

Failure Date: 01/25/2008

Purchased a 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 on a 3-year lease. The vehicle has 24,000+/- miles. During the last of Jan. 2008 the engine in the vehicle started knocking. I took the vehicle back to the leasing dealer on February 4, 2008. The next day or so, I received a phone call from the dealer service rep. Wanting "proof" of oil changes. I explained that I would not be able to provide receipt's since I do the oil & filter changes myself. I am a farmer and have my own pit built specifically for that purpose. I did not hear anything for another week, I called back and they were still asking for service receipts. Finally contacted Chrysler and a representative said they would have an answer within 24 hours. They called 2 weeks later saying they would not honor the warranty because the oil was filled with sludge and that it was my fault that the engine had failed. I disagree of course and will be pursuing this through the court system. Having own a multitude of vehicles in my 64 year old life, I can assure you that a motor should not go bad after 24,000 miles if the oil had never been changed, which was not the case.

10 Gasoline Engine problem of the 1998 Dodge RAM

Failure Date: 11/19/1999

Engine knocks at start-up for about 2-3 seconds. Oil pressure gauge is not as high as when first bought. Has been to the dealer twice for this problem, but they say they cannot duplicate it. Service manager has verified the knocking, but Chrysler doesn't want to persue it. Seems that Chrysler was really quick to take my money when it was bought, but now that it has a problem they don't want to know anything about it. Situation has been sent to Chrysler's 3rd party arbitration company to have a hearing to decide what they will be forced to do to correct the problem. Chrysler has been very disappointing in there "customer service" or lack of it, to the customer. . .

15 Gasoline Engine problem of the 1997 Dodge RAM

Failure Date: 07/21/1999

10 amp fuse in panel marked"engine" blows at erratic intervals. When fuse blows, engine and all components shut down. Replacement of fuse, same size or larger, sometimes allows restart. At times as many as three or four fuses blow as soon as attempt to restart. Truck has shut down at crowded intersections and interstates. . . When traffic lane is blocked, driver must hold driver's door open while attempting to replace fuse, thus blocking two traffic lanes. Truck is used to tow a 32' travel trailer, which further adds to danger. Truck has been taken to Chrysler dealers eight times with no success at finding fault. Truck (and trailer) have been towed by wrecker to dealer three times. Owner has attempted to contact Chrysler rep several times but no return calls. Owner is afraid to drive vehicle any further, especially towing travel trailer. All recourse having failed, seeking legal advice from attorney.

The defect is in the alignment of the truck and the engine. With the alignment set to manufacturer's specifications the truck still pulls out of the driving lane. Within ten seconds the truck will completely vacate the lane. The second problem is the engine has a "stumble" or miss-fire at idle. Again the manufactures states the engine is also within guidelines. The dealer claims there is an industry standard for alignment, but provides no written documentation on what the standards are or what the manufacturer's acceptable tolerances are specifically. Do you have anything which indicates alignment standards and engine timing.

28 Gasoline Engine problem of the 1997 Dodge RAM

I'm not sure if I should be reporting this here but I've encountered the engine shutting down at 45mph and above speeds for less than a second. Invariably I'm at 55-60mph on cruise control when this occurs. It is unexpected. Normally only one incident between starting up and shutting down engine but have had two about several minutes apart a couple of times. I've told my dealer several times when they're fixing other things but they're unable to duplicate it and thus unable to fix the problemo. It is occurring more frequently now than during the first year of my truck purchase and my warranty expires 1/1/00 so I'm sortof concerned about what I should do. Because of your resources I figured I'd let you know and maybe get some help regarding the problem before the engine dies completely. Thank you.
