Dodge Ram 1500 owners have reported 5 problems related to crankcase (pcv) (under the engine and engine cooling category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Vehicle loses power completely or goes into idle "creep" mode when driving in temps of -15 or colder. Loss of acceleration and power steering. When vehicle dies will not restart for 15-20 minutes. Currently has 160k miles. Has occurred last 3 winters. Looked at by private mechanic the first time. Removed ice from pcv valve. This fall had mechanic look into the problem. He spoke with Dodge dealer and they recommended replacing the pcv valve. Replaced pcv valve and throttle body. Problem continues to occur. Died while driving 45 mph, 2 outside temp. Will typically die in these circumstances when no longer engaging throttle, ie slowing for traffic or preparing to turn.

When driving on the highway at 60 to 65 mph the red lightning bolt light on the dash begins to flash, the vehicles engine becomes eradic, sometimes it dies, other times it revs hard and won't change into another gear, all control of the fuel system seems to be lost causing a serious situation at highway speeds. This happens to the engine intermittently, some days you can drive 70 miles with no problems other days it will go crazy as described when the light flashes. When the vehicle dies on the highway, it is very hard to steer it to the side of the road or stop it. The vehicle has been in 5 different repair shops and the fifth being a Dodge service center. This Dodge service center has had my vehicle for 4 weeks about to enter the fifth week and they cannot figure out the problem. The throttle body with tps sensor has been replaced twice, accelerator pedal position sensor replaced twice, egr valve replaced, pcv valve cleaned and inspected, pcm replaced and re flashed, the battery replaced, alternator replaced, all 4 O2 sensors replaced and the wiring harness and all connectors tested and inspected. The vehicle still is having the same problem and the dealership service department gave up and told me to come and get my truck. I contacted Chrysler and got them involved, they're resource technicians have been trying to solve the problem with the service department now for 2 weeks and still no answers and I still have no vehicle. Chrysler case #28169313.

The truck stalls out when stopping, turning, or just sitting at light. Have replaced egr, throttle body, pcv, and had pcm updated; but truck is still stalling. Dealer can't find any trouble codes and can't figure out what is causing the problem. Dealer has put in calls to Chrysler star, but no responses yet. From looking on line, I can see that there are many other owners with the same issue. I just know that this is a safety issue, especially when the truck stalls in the middle of a turn in traffic. I can't believe that there is not a fix or a recall on this issue. Yes, this is a slow speed issue; but it is still dangerous. Please help!.
On 11/24/00, 01/15/01 and 03/09/01 the dealer overfilled the crankcase on my 6cyl motor. This was traced to the dealer's work order which automatically listed an amount which is over the crankcase capacity. Damage to engine probable, now experiencing significant engine vibration problems.
