Dodge Ram 1500 owners have reported 11 problems related to engine belts and pulleys (under the engine and engine cooling category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Contact owns a 2005 Ram 1500 slt 4. 7l. Contact states this has happened several times randomly. Truck will die while driving down the road or maneuvering at low speeds. Truck has had one random incident of over heating and had to pull over and shut truck off to cool down. Restarted just fine! plastic seat belt buckles have broken and seat belts don't retract fully. Then around April 2014 started hearing a whining grinding, howling noise thought it was the tires or the road. After a few months the noise was still there so called a repair shop took it in. Had it looked at. The repair shop diagnosed it to be the rear differential pinion nut backing off. Repair shop said the truck needs the differential repaired or replaced. A short time later, I received a recall notice around February on the truck for p77 & p81. Have contacted dealer via phone on several occasions. Dealer says parts are not available at this time, and don't know when the parts will be available to remedy the situation. It has been almost 3 months since I received the notice. I am concerned about the safety of the vehicle occupants and/or other's safety. *(since the problem is, the rear axle pinion nut on your truck may have been built without an adhesive patch on the pinion nut threads. The lack of this adhesive patch could allow the rear axle pinion nut to loosen and/or the rear drive shaft to separate from the rear axle. A loose pinion nut could cause the rear axle to seize and a separated drive shaft could cause loss of motive power. Either situation could cause a crash with out warning! and the airbag inflator could rupture with metal fragments striking and potentially injuring the vehicle occupants). Dealership says should be okay to drive. !! I don't see how Dodge Chrysler! can keep production/sales of these unsafe vehicles. When so many vehicles are being recalled. Thank you for your attention of this matter. Updated 06/29/15.

I have two complaints. I will start with the serious one first. While driving my 2006 Dodge ram truck down the interstate, it suddenly shut down. I had no power steering. This was a very dangerous situation trying to steer over to the emergency lane. Once over I put the vehicle in park, and it started up, like nothing happen. This happen twice within 2years. I see that the same complaint was filed by another Dodge owner(#10270010). Im taking my truck to the dealer tomorrow to see what the problem is. The second complaint is the rear middle seat belt locks up and will not release. I see this is also a problem with other owners. Complaint #'s 10248480, and 10237215. These problems, especially the first should put on a recall list.

2003 Dodge Ram 1500 5. 7 hemi, electronic throttle will shot off going down the highway which makes it idle bad and loose power , have to stop on the side of the highway and shout off the truck and re-start hwich will reset the throttle. The problem will happen at speeds from 30 miles per hour to 75 miles per hour it will happen using the pedal our on the auto control and with or with out the ac on. Safety problem have to stop on the side of interstate 95 or the 495 belt way and restart the truck very unsafe for me and for the other drivers around me. The problem will happen every 150 to 250 miles, I have taken the truck back to Dodge many times and spent a lot of time and money trying to get the problem fixed but Dodge is unable to find or fix the problem. One time Dodge did find that the truck had bad springs in the engine that they replace( bad from the plant ) and they hoped that would fix the problem but it did not. This problem started after I got the truck from the dealer used ,it had 40,000 miles and at 46,000 it started and has not stopped the truck now has 94,000 miles and I have to stop every day on the road to reset the throttle. First date of problem 05-01-07.

We purchased a 2003 Ram 1500 3. 7, in 11/07, the truck has not been running right, we took it in and 2 plugs melted, into the coil, the dealer replaced the heads on that side. We picked up the truck. And the serpentine belt fell off and froze the water pump, blowing another head gasket. This isn't the first time the pump had been replaced.

I own a 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 2x4. Clutch was replaced at 36000 miles, and motor was rebuild at 46000 miles, both times under warranty. Each time I' had the oil changed there appeared to be a white substance building up on the oil cap as if it was condensation. I now have 88000 miles and have a "ticking. Like a valve sticking, and continues to have this white substance. When it rains or I go through a puddle of water the belt starts to slip and all power is lost.
: the contact stated on several occasions, the rear left safety belt tightened so tightly that the passenger was choked. The vehicle was taken to a service dealer who was unable to determine the problem. The vehicle also stalled completely upon starting and removing pressure from the brake pedal but restarted after 45 minutes. The vehicle was again taken to the service dealer who was unable to duplicate the problem. The manufacturer was contacted, but did not provide any follow-up information.
Dodge truck engine seized up after having a complete oil maintenance. Eight days prior to the engine seizing the dealer replaced the oil pan, belts, oil and oil pump.
