3 Engine Failure problem of the 2004 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 03/13/2015

Vehicle stalled while driving down the road. I took it to the local mechanic and they did compression test on it they said no compression on the #7 cylinder, he told me it is an internal engine failure. My vehicle only has 33,000 miles on it. I found out it is a known issue, Chrysler fixed it in the 05 models but did nothing for the 2003 and 2004 vehicles.

4 Engine Failure problem of the 2004 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 11/09/2014

I was driving and my 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 sputtered and died without warning. I was in the left lane, and it was all I could do to pull it to the right side of the road as it lost power. I was headed uphill, so I was able to safely put it in neutral and let it roll back because I was blocking an entrance ramp to the interstate. It was 5 pm and I was westbound, so people had difficulty seeing my hazard lights while looking into the sun. It was scary! with regular maintenance and garage kept, this truck broke an engine valve spring. When this happens, the engine fails immediately because there is no longer compression in that cylinder. I was lucky, the spring held in place and did not allow the valve to drop into the cylinder, which would have been catastrophic and irreparable. After research, I found Dodge knows about this problem in the 2004 hemi engine. In fact, they redesigned the valve springs in the 2005 models. Several sites & blogs showed owners with the same problem, but Dodge never started a campaign or issued a recall. I contacted Chrysler (Dodge) and they refuse to assist or acknowledge the problem. If this had occurred on a busy interstate, I could have been involved in a serious accident. When the engine failed, I lost power steering and any ability to maneuver the vehicle. If needed, I have all documentation, and I also have the broken valve spring in my possession.

6 Engine Failure problem of the 2002 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 08/11/2013

Engine failure while driving on highway. Head or head gasket as it is burning lots of water. Flows out of tailpipes. So many problems with this motor it should be recalled as there is no cheap fix. From sludge to overheating problems that ruin the motor there are few options to replace other than a rebuilt that has been altered to correct all said problems. Fairly high priced I might add. Dodge should claim some responsibility and help out rather than ignoring this issue. This engine has failed too many times the same way to be coincidence.

7 Engine Failure problem of the 2004 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 12/16/2009

I have the 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 with the 5. 7 hemi. The truck inconsistently stalls for no reason. Sometimes after fueling up the motor will surge and sputter before stalling. Most of the time the motor starts right back up only to stall again just a short time later. Other times the motor will not restart for several minutes and attempts. It only stalls when traveling below 25mph and sitting at idle. I noticed it normally idles around 700rpm, but just before a stall it will dip to 500rpm and feel as it there is a slight miss in the motor. Nothing I have tried has fixed this issue and the repair shops have failed to duplicate or diagnose this problem. After checking around I have noticed this seems to be a common problem and I think Dodge should do something to fix this. Whenever the engine fails I lose steering and brakes. Last week it stalled on the interstate with no pull off room and it would not restart for several minutes nearly causing a rear end collision between a big rig and myself. This is a serious safety issue.

9 Engine Failure problem of the 2004 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 11/24/2008

Engine failure. On several occasions the engine would stall upon acceleration. My 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 stalled on me after driving onto a patch of ice causing my steering wheel to become difficult to steer and the truck started sliding down an icy street, off the road and down a mountain until it came to a stop on a tree. Since the truck stalled and I was not able to restart it in time. The truck is now a total loss. The frame bent in the front drivers area of the truck, the steering became lose and the back passenger quarter panel is damaged which will not allow the tail gate to come down.

11 Engine Failure problem of the 2001 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 03/06/2006

I have a 2001 Dodge intrepid with approx 70k miles. I had no warning anything was wrong and when I stopped to pick up my 6 year old child the car never started again. I brought it to a local (trustworthy) mechanic and after a 215. 10 bill I was told my engine failed and I would have to pay approx 5k to repair it. My mechanic asked if I kept up on the oil changes and I stated that I did. After research himself he informed me that this is an ongoing problem with the 2. 7 engines. I still owe on the vehicle 5k and I am a single parent and now have no car and still paying on it.

12 Engine Failure problem of the 2001 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 06/10/2005

Dodge (2001) 1500 ram pickup (4x2) --- 1- major lower engine failure. Engine oil pressure warning lamp activated followed by engine making "ticking" noise. In doing research, I have found that this "oil pressure / major engine issues" is common for the Dodge ram. 2- second major Dodge issue--- transmission had to be totally replaced. Again, in doing research, I have found numerous documented issues with the 2001 Dodge ram transmission failures. .

13 Engine Failure problem of the 1997 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 12/20/1999

The automobile shop that repaired my truck said that when the dealer replaced my rear main seal the job was done improperly. That was most likely the reason the engine failed. The also noticed that when the new parts came in the new oil pick up tube screan was a lot larger than the old one.

14 Engine Failure problem of the 1998 Dodge Ram 1500

Enigine developed a very serious knocking and banging, and recently loss of oil pressure and low over 3 quarts of oil in about 800 miles after oil change. The knocking and banging got so bad that I couldn't maintain highway speeds causing a traffic hazard. If attempting to pull out and pass the knock may prevent accelleration causing a head on collision. Continued knock will result in engine failure and damage.
