The contact owns a 2005 Dodge Ram 1500. While driving approximately 55 mph, the power steering failed. As a result, the vehicle crashed into a concrete embankment and rolled over several times. The vehicle burst into flames, which were extinguished by the fire department. A police report was filed and indicated that a fractured rear axle caused the failure. The crash caused a fatal injury. The vehicle was towed to a salvage facility. The manufacturer was not notified. The VIN and failure mileage were unknown.

The contact owns a 2002 Dodge Ram 1500. The contact noticed a large red-colored fluid underneath the front driver side near the engine compartment. He took his vehicle to a local mechanic and was informed that the seals in the power steering rack failed and needed to be replaced. One month later, while the vehicle was in park, the contact noticed a larger puddle of power steering fluid. The dealer and manufacturer were unable to assist. The vehicle has not been repaired. The current mileage was 65,603 and failure mileage was 54,000.

Power steering leaking, I had it in to be repared once already and is leaking again.
The consumer's 16 year old son was driving the 2004 Dodge ram pickup on 5-24-05, and the driver pulled out into traffic to make a left turn. When the steering was turned it kept on going around and around both ways. The steering wheel was connected to nothing at that point. Driver waited till traffic cleared, and driver had to push the vehicle out of the road and wait for the police to come and call a tow truck. The vehicle is now being towed back to the dealership. The owner has been in contact with Chrysler, and they would look at the vehicle. Chrysler is looking at the vehicle to see if they can fix it.

On 05/08/99 the complaintant was involved in a single vehicle accident which resulted in significant physical injury (I. E. , second and third degree burns) to the passenger, and complete loss of the vehicle and its contents. The cause of this accident was a defective steering mechanism in the 1999 Dodge ram quad cab truck which allowed the vehicle to the right, resulting in loss of control, hitting a guardrail, and rupturing the gasoline tank.
