2009 Dodge Ram 1500. Consumer writes in regards to engine tic/ manifold exhaust leak recall. The consumer stated a recall was issued by Chrysler for the exact same issue he experienced with his vehicle. However, when he called his local dealer, he was informed his vehicle was not included, even though his vehicle had the same engine and fell under the same year, in which the problem existed.
Wheel hub assembly are coming off, I hear noise, and broken exhaust manifold bolts.

While taking low speed, tight turns with my 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 truck the engine stalls out. I'm pretty sure this issue is the same as the NHTSA action number:ea05018. This has happen several times within the last two month. The local Dodge dealer "cleaned" the intake manifold, (charged me $89. 00) but it is still happening.

Upon start-up of the vehicle a ticking noise is heard. This sound is less noticeable as the engine warms to normal operating temperature. Similar cases have been seen in 2009 models caused by broken or loose exhaust manifold bolts for cylinders 7 and 8. Contacted the dealer but they stated my vehicle was not affected by that recall even though it is the same year and engine type.
2002 Dodge Ram 1500 driving at 55 mph came to a stop, suddenly white smoke started coming out of tail pipe with sweet smell of anti-freeze. Vehicle will lose power told that engine heads need to be replaced. There is a engine design flaw for this year and model that Dodge is not willing to admit nor repair there are multiple complaints but there was never a recall. Vehicle will smoke upon starting and smoke will come back off and on. Just want dod ge to admit the issue and cover repair.

The contact owns a 2009 Dodge Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving 75 mph he began to become very sleepy. The contact had to pull over and take a walk to wake himself up. The contact smelled exhaust fumes when he re-entered the vehicle. The dealer was notified and the contact was informed that the bolts on the manifold had broken and the failure was common. As a precaution, the contact consulted with another dealer and was given the same answer. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure and current mileages were 40,000.
Exhaust manifold bolts (as now known under Dodge TSB same subject) are defective and of wrong material type as per TSB. Bolts may fail causing exhaust leak at manifold to engine gasket, allowing exhaust fumes to enter the cabin. Noxious fumes in cabin may cause driver to become poisoned over long trip times resulting in loss of consciousness and vehicle control or situational awareness. Failure of bolts also allows release of pre-catalyst exhaust to be discharged into the atmosphere. Contact:[xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
Purchased the truck used. Engine began making a tapping sound several months after purchase. Dealer informed me that both exhaust manifolds were leaking due to broken bolts. The dealer stated a recall was established to remedy this issue but my vehicle was not included. On 07/01/2014 I had the manifold bolts and gaskets replaced by a local auto repair shop. On 01/01/2015 the tapping started again.

Nov of 2006 I took my truck in for misfire and coolant lose, the dealer checked the cooling system and ok'd it . They replaced my spark plugs for the misfire. About a month ago the truck was not running correctly since my warranty ran out I took it to another shop the rocker arm fell off, it was replaced. A week later 2 rocker arms fell off. With extensive researched it was determined I had a cracked head. When I called the auto manufacturer Chrysler, I was told it was under the power train warranty and I needed to take it to the dealer. I did not feel comftorable taking this truck that was half apart to another mechanic to tell me what I already new, that the head was cracked coolant was leaking into the combustion chamber causing my rocker arms to be blown off. I tried talking to the dealership that I purchased it from and they said that Chrysler already made a decision on this. All I wanted was to get replacement heads and some costs of repairing the truck. If this would have went to the dealer there was going to be a cost for them.
First let me state that prior to this experience, I absolutely loved my Dodge truck. On 20 Apr 2006, my 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 pick-up with 50,529 miles started stalling after the engine warmed up. There was a distinct "pinging" sound coming from the catalytic converter before the engine would stall. My 17 year old son was driving the vehicle and was returning from soccer practice when this first started. I brought it to the dealership where I purchased the truck--they couldn't find anything wrong, but based on my description felt that the catalytic converter might be bad, so they replaced it. This seemed to solve the problem until a month and 1,100 miles later the very same symptoms arose (engine stalling when warmed up, and a "pinging" sound coming from the vicinity of the catalytic converter. This time they diagnosed the problem as being scored pistons, requiring me to replace my engine block. . . At 51,679 miles! a quality engine would not fail at this low mileage. I called Dodge, they agreed that it should not have happenedã‚â¦and were very apologetic that my warranty had expired, but they refused to share the burden of the nearly $7,000 cost with me, despite the fact that there was only 51,679 miles on the vehicle. Would you buy a truck whose engine failed at 50,000 miles? I certainly will never again.
The contact stated after the vehicle was parked for eleven hours he turned the key in the ignition and heard a loud backfire noise coming from the engine. The passenger compartment filled with smoke , and he exited the vehicle. The parking attendant extinguished the fire and there was minimal fire damage. Eleven days later the vehicle was towed to the insurance company's salvage lot. Upon inspection the insurance company determined it was a mechanical problem. The vehicle was towed to a Dodge dealership, and although the dealership stated the vehicle needed to be taken apart to correctly diagnose it, the dealership claimed that the intake manifold exploded. No repairs have been made. Updated 2/7/2006 -.

2001, Dodge, ram, consumer called the manufacturer and told them that vehicle was using about 2-3 quarts of oil weekly. Manufacturer called the dealership and indicated there were no records of anyone having this problem. Took vehicle to laurel valley Dodge in latrobe, PA. They had several complaints about a paper gasket between the manifold and the heads left a hole there, and it was dumping oil into the manifold, and burning the oil. Dealer said they could take the paper gasket out and put a metal gasket at the cost of $600. 00. Consumer was told there was no recalls on this problem. The engine was still running and had not seized as of yet.

I bought a 1999 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup with a 5. 2 liter engine from swift Dodge in davis, CA in December of 1998. The first day, I noticed that it had a spark knock or ping when accelerating up the slightest grade. With the air conditioner on or when pulling a small trailer, the knock was worse. I complained about it everytime I took my truck in for service at the dealership. The manifold gasket was replaced twice by the deaer, and I was told that would fix it. It didn't. I've had the truck in for service at swift Dodge approximately 13 times over the past 4+ years, each time complaining of the spark knock. Sometimes they have said they can't hear it, sometimes they just put me off, and sometimes they changed the manifold gasket. Now, I'm told - at 129,000 miles - that the gasket has failed again and that the cylinder heads need to be replaced as well, all for the price of $2,000+. I've called Chrysler to no avail. I have one complaint on record with them from April 2001. There are 2 technical service bulletins out on this very problem. Apparently the fix is only temporary, and when the truck is past its warranty, the consumer pays. It's not fair that a chronic design problem isn't definitively remedied by the manufacturer under warranty. If all companies included design flaws in every product that the consumer would eventually be charged for, companies could enjoy a steady stream of after-warranty income. That's what's happened here. By the way, the web is full of customer complaints and threats of class-action suits for this very problem with 1999 Dodge pickups and durangos. I don't know if there is any legal recourse, but I'm lodging my legitimate complaint anyway. Yours truly,
dennis parker.

While driving the oil pressure gauge dropped to zero. Consumer pulled off the highway to check the oil level. The dip stick was dry, there was no oil in the engine. Vehicle was towed to the dealership. Intake manifold plenum gasket failed. Which resulted in the engine oil leaking and going through the exhaust system. Dealership replaced the gasket.
While driving vehicle overheated due to cracked intake manifold dealer notified.
The intake manifold cracked and coolant went inside the engine. Dealer has repaired three times and still recurring the problem.
Manifold gasket sucked in. . Causing spark knocking. Headlight not working properly due to bad ground. Chrysler fixed headlight at no charge, however, told me there was a TSB on manifold gasket and still charged me for repairs. . They stated that they did not have to fix because they remodeled the engine. Female subject at Chrysler headquarters hung up on me.
Oil is should be changed every 3000 miles, consumer needed oil before the 3000 miles. Oil gauge was reading oil 2 quarts low. Consumer felt oil was going up into intake manifold. Please provide any further information.
I was driving my 1998 Dodge ram 4x4 extended cab 1500slt 318 motor on the freeway doing 70-75 mph when I lost all power. I had no power steering or power brakes and was stuck in the fast lane on the interstate. I was finally able to get to the shoulder by cutting off another vehicle. I had my truck towed to lithia Dodge of roseburg and they said the intake manifold gasket was leaking . They also said this was a common problem with this model. It caused oil to blow down my exhaust and plug my catalytic converter which choked off my motor and caused the engine to die. They would not warranty this because the truck has 46000 miles on it. I don't understand why this wasn't recalled as I was lucky I didn't get in a wreck. I know two other people this same problem has happened to.

While on a busy highway consumer heard a rattling noise coming from engine. Consumer thought noise was coming from fuel that was put in earlier, changed fuel, but the rattling noise was still present. Took vehicle to dealer, and they stated intake manifold was leaking. Please provide any further information.
Engine was burning a quart of oil within 700-900 miles , dealer claimed this was a normal characteristic. Dealer did replaced intake manifold twice which stopped problem for a while, but defect has reoccurred.
Engine spark knocks badly due to upper intake gasket and intake manifold pan gasket failure. Yh.
Intake manifold gasket leaks which causes a mixture of oil and gas. As a result vehicle loses power and consumes excessive oil. There is a TSB 1001522 on this issue.
