Failure Date: 08/22/2011

I own a 1998 Dodge Ram 1500 extended cab. I bought the vehical new. For several years the dash has been cracking and the plastic air conditioning vents are falling apart. I have made no repairs and it needs fixing. Also the rear end is roaring probably from a bearing going bad. Other than this problem, it has been a good truck.

3 Power Train Driveline problem of the 2004 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 06/13/2011

Driving down road and felt and heard a loud bang under truck . Emergency brake and abs lites came on and speedometer stopped working. Immediatly went to the garage to have it checked. Mechanic told me that the speed senser was broken and gear oil was leaking from the senser. When he removed the speed senser he noticed that the under side was distroyed. He then removed the differential cover and found that the retaining clips had come out and destroyed the differential unit. The differential unit and bearings were replaced with new Dodge parts.

4 Power Train Driveline problem of the 2011 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 05/05/2011

The problem is. . . The rear axle pinion bearing on your truck (VIN: xxxxxxx) may not receive adequate lubrication under certain driving conditions. This lack of lubrication condition could cause the pinion bearing to seize and cause a loss of vehicle control and/or a crash without warning. I have contacted three different servicing dealers, and have been told three different stories. The one common factor they have is that parts are not available, and backorders weren't being processed. I feel like I'm getting the run-around. . . The manufacturer left me a message, after my numerous compliants, stating that parts were being expedited for me, but they are not returning my phone calls now. They don't seem to be concerned over this "safety recall" since I can't get my truck fixed. My truck's axle has not failed as of yet. I can't seem to get the recall done though to prevent a failure. If Dodge is going to drag this out, they need to cover the cost of rental vehicles for affected customers until they can get the recall done. I'm concerned for the safety of my family while in this truck.

6 Power Train Driveline problem of the 2009 Dodge Ram 1500

While driving at highway speed, the rear differential pinion gear broke which locked up the rear differential and the truck skidded out of control to a dead stop. 7 Power Train Driveline problem of the 2009 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 08/28/2010

While driving at 75 mph on interstate I noticed a whine which I assumed was from the grooved pavement. I then noticed it would come and go by slightly pressing on the accelerator. After a few minutes it started to get louder. I pulled to the shoulder of the highway at which point there was a loud bang and the rear wheels completely locked up. It was towed to the nearest dealer. I am waiting for the complete rear axle and driveshaft to be replaced. The rear pinion gear nut had unscrewed and the differential gears had self destructed and driveshaft fell off. There may also be damage to the transmission. It seems Dodge trucks have a history of this happening. I was on the way to tow a travel trailer. This could have happened at high speeds towing a trailer in heavy holiday traffic and people could have been injured or killed.

9 Power Train Driveline problem of the 2002 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 02/04/2010

After crossing a railroad track a clicking noise became evident from rear of 2002 Dodge Ram 1500. I checked u joints then went to wheel bearings, they seemed slightly loose so I began changing. After pulling differential cover I found curved chunks of metal in bottom of differential housing. I took out 4 bolts and caps that hold differential in, I found major wear in aluminium housing right where bolts screw in on passenger side. I compared to drivers side of differential and found a half moon shaped cup that appears to be a dipper to collect oil it just slides in and out and the cup on the passengers side must have slid out and ground on the housing until it came out. I feel this could case a major accident as eventually the whole rear end could come out or let axles come out while driving.

Bought a 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 with 19,000 miles by 36,000 miles the abs light comes on thought it was a sensor dirty or bad, but took it to a garage and they said there was metal shavings on the sensor. 13 Power Train Driveline problem of the 2008 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 12/04/2008

I was driving down the road and switched into 4wd after a few minutes the vehicles lights started to flicker- the car slipped out of 4wd and wouldn't re-engage. There was an apparent short in the electrical system- the windshield wiper/washers wouldn't function afterward either. The dealer fixed the issue but the very day I got it back the very same thing happened again. I am told it is a technical problem with the vehicle and Chrysler is searching for a fix but that I am not supposed to turn the switch back to the 4wd position or I'll short out the system again.

Informed by dealer service advisor that rear axle needs to have clutches replaced. Failure to have this service completed may result in catastrophic failure of rear end axle shafts which may cause axle shafts to fall out of housing resulting in possible injury and repairs amounting to several thousand dollars. This condition was reported to me while my vehicle was in for an oil change. My vehicle only has 32,000 miles on it but dealer said that this was a problem affecting my vehicle type. I feel that Dodge should repair this problem immediately as it is appears that this is a defective serious condition.

18 Power Train Driveline problem of the 2009 Dodge Ram 1500

2009 Dodge Ram 1500 st has a severe vibration at 60 mph. Service tech at dealer thinks there is a bind in driveline. Truck will clunk at times when stopped at red light. Chrysler says it is normal. I am afraid drive shaft may break causing damage, or accident.

19 Power Train Driveline problem of the 2004 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 02/19/2007

For the past couple weeks, my wife claimed to hear a strange sound from '04 Ram 1500 quad cab. Yesterday, while traveling on the turnpike with my children, she started to smell something burning, then heard a strange noise, finally some vibrations. She promptly began to pull off of the road, at this point the rear-end locked up, snapped the drive shaft, and a fire broke out beneath the truck. I'm not religious, but thank god the drive shaft broke from the rear end and not the transmission. I think we all know what could have happened then.

20 Power Train Driveline problem of the 2006 Dodge Ram 1500

: the contact stated when hitched up to a trailer, there was a vibration from the drive shaft during acceleration. The vehicle was serviced by an authorized service dealer, who replaced the drive shaft hanger. This helped reduce the vibration, but became worse with continued driving. The vehicle was returned a second time, where a more heavy duty replacement hanger was installed. The vibration continued during acceleration at all speeds, although it was not noticed when the accelerator pedal was not depressed. The manufacturer was not notified.

24 Power Train Driveline problem of the 2004 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 02/18/2004

Mileage: 43,520 dealer performing service: vals summit Dodge I have a 2004 Dodge Ram 1500. Approximately 2 months ago I had to have both u-joints replaced due to squeaking. Then today, I had to have the drive shaft replaced. The service manager informed me that the shaft was twisted and could not provide a reason for the twisting other than to explain that the drive shaft is made from a very light aluminum tube and this happens. There was no dings or damage. He also informed me that this is a very common problem with this truck and that he replaces 4-5 drive shafts per week. I was charged $108 as part of the deductible for the replacement for the drive shaft. This appears to be an obvious issue with the quality of the component. I spoke with Chrysler customer service who could not assist me other than to tell me to send everything to the customer assistance center and they would see what they can do.
