The steel cooler lines from the transmission to the factory installed transmission cooler started leaking at the crimped area between the steel and rubber joints. Chrysler knows there is a problem because there is a long delay for getting replacement parts. They will not be releasing the parts until later in February. This leak could become a major problem and cause a transmission failure. Chrysler does not want to cover this under warranty and it could impact the power train (which is under a lifetime warranty). This needs to be investigated to see if it is a systematic problem those could cause injury or loss of property.

Tl the contact owns a 2009 Dodge Ram 1500. The contact stated that the heater, defroster, and air conditioner malfunctioned. In addition, the transmission failed while the vehicle was turning into a driveway. The vehicle was towed to butte's mile high Chrysler Jeep Dodge ram (3883 harrison Ave, butte, mt 59701,(406) 565-4410) and repaired under warranty. The contact had to pay for a loaner vehicle because they exceeded the mileage limitation due to the distance from their home to the dealer. The contact also stated that the headlight switch did not activate the headlights; therefore, the contact had to use the high beams. The contact repaired the headlights themselves. The heater and air conditioner were not under warranty and were repaired by the contact, but the failure recurred. The manufacturer stated that there were no recalls on the vehicle. The failure mileage was 76,000.

Transmission failure in 1997 Dodge Ram 1500. Transmission failed and would not shift into higher gears. Would never go faster than 40 miles and hour.
2006 truck has been into the dealership numerous times for recalls and then had a transmission failure at 26,000 miles, they took the truck and then had to send it 100 miles away to be returned with one of the same problems still happening. They had it for 5 weeks and could not fix the problem. Also have warped rotors on front and had to replace tires on front. I think all they did was change fluid in tranny.
Transmission failure due to transmission overheating.

With no warning, the transmission on our 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 quad cab pick up failed. It was during a turn in an intersection and power was lost and then surged. Fortunately, on-coming traffic was able to avoid a collision. The vehicle had to be towed to the dealer where we were informed that no recalls were issued and that it was only covered under a 36,000 mile warranty (our vehicle had 56,000 miles). The entire transmission had to be rebuilt and the mechanic informed us that it was caused by a pump failure. The cost was $3200. We contacted daimler Chrysler and were told that they didn't see a transmission failure as a safety concern.
Truck purchased used at dealership in 2000. Transmission rebuilt in 2002. Transmission failed in 2006.

The vehicle was towed to a dealership, upon inspection the problem was the input shaft in the transmission had failed. The manufacturer has been alerted, no repairs made.
An engine warning light came on my 2001 Dodge ram so I took it to dotson brothers Dodge dealership they told me it was the transmission and that they had a service bullitin the problem was that during manufacturing a plate with a hole to small to let fluid to pass though was installed this causes the tourque converter to lock up and become damaged they told me that it would be safe to drive this was on wed Feb 2 on tues Feb 8 I was coming home from work when the transmission failed reducing my speed dramaticly I narowly missed being rear ended luckly the car behind me was able to swerve around me after sitting with the truck in park for a few minutes the transmission engaged and I was able to continue home.

2001 Dodge Ram 1500, transmission failure started at 45,000 miles. Had to replace the transmission at 53,000.
While driving the vehicle the automatic transmission failed. The dealer indicated don't fix it just get a new vehicle. Please provide further information.
Transmission failure, not only on this truck, but on numerous others. There seems like something should be done to correct this problem. Its bad enough to pay the prices for a new vehicle, but to have to replace the transmission is outrageous. I understand that mechanical problems occure, its just seems that there are more transmission problems with Dodge than with any other vehicle. .

While attempting to accelerate out of the driveway vehicle would not accelerate. Consumer had vehicle towed to the dealer. Mechanic informed consumer that transmission failed.
Total transmission failure, no slipping no warnig, truck just would not go had 60000 miles this caused me and my mother and little child to walk on dangerous highway for help. Repair cost 1800.
Transmission failure rebuilt 2 times.
Transmission failed at aprox 80,000 mile. Lost all gears execpt for 4th. Could have resulted in a major accident had it failed on the freeway which we had just exited. Also the clutch has been replaced three times since the truck was new. One at 37000, 56,000 and 81,000.
Transmission failed two weeks after routine service (fluid change, new filter, band adjustment). Had no previous driveability problems before service. Fluid level and condition checked monthly since truck was purchased (new) in March, 1997. Mr.
This is the second complete transmission failure on this vehicle. The first failure was at 66174 miles. So the factory replacement lasted only 1335 miles. This truck is used primarily for transportation and driven primarily on the highway. It has rarely been used for other than very light duty use and even then the manufactures recommended limits have never been exceeded. The first incidence of transmission failure was reported due to the inability of the dealer to diagnose the problem after four repair trips and until catastrophic failure of the transmission. The replacement transmission also completely failed and had to be replaced within 1335 miles.
Automatic transmission failure - vehicle started to skip when shifting from 1st gear to second gear. Took it to the dealer and was told I was 200 miles out of warranty and they could not fix it under warranty (even though I had been having problems for a month before that and hadn't time to get in to get it looked at). Was told that other transmissions were also failing, but Dodge would not do anything. I am a former Chrysler employee, as is my father. Always been loyal to Chrysler products, but after this, I can't tell enough people to buy foreign and not domestic - cheap quality and poor customer service. They sell you a vehicle and the problems are yours - too bad. Finally got some help from the Chrysler corporate center michigan. First dealer said "passing cable was problem, then later on found transmission was fault. A rebuilt one was installed, and now that too is having problems. This vehicle is used only to go to and from work and around town. No heavy hauling, heavy towing (do haul push mower and hand trimmer, rake, etc) or any heavy driving. Truck is maintained on schedule - treated with care like a kid.

While driving, engine check light remains illuminated, indicating a malfunction within the system. The engine light came on again, the vehicle would not go over 40 mph. The dealer found out that the transmission had failed and replaced it, but it failed again after 6000 miles and was replaced on warranty.
Transmission failed in overdrive which caused failure to the rest of the transmission which required the transmission to be rebuilt.
Transmission failed to go from 2nd to 3rd gear. Dealer notified. Please feel free to provide any further detail on this matter.
Transmission failure at 62000. Dealership in hammond, la would not work with me to replace. Had it replaced at an independent repair shop at the cost $2300. 00 .
Poor/loss of acceleration, shifting at high rpm's, hot floor boards. The generic transmission fluid used by Dodge (1996) deteriorated the bands in the "transmission causing them to slip and fail is my opioion of why the transmission failed.
Automatic transmission fails to shift into 3rd gear at any speed. Fails to shift into reverse when vehicle warm. Problem began intermittently but got progressively worse. Took to dealer 7/99 and was unable to diagnose. Dealer informed me transmission would need to be removed at my expense to complete diagnosis and repair. Have seen numerous similar complaints in your database and feel this is an obvious defect and should be subject to a recall.
Transmission failure. Also premature wear of brakes and always pull to the left.
Transmission failure 1/00 ; original eq chrome rims bent, dealer says metal in rim was inferior. Did not offer to replace it.
