Brake shift interlock does not work on my truck. It can be shifted from park to reverse or park to drive without having the brake pedal depressed. I am taking it the dealer tomorrow for repair.

I have a 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 with 5. 7 hemi I've owned since new. The truck will stall without warning at slow speeds and while turning it has always restarted. On some stalls with the lack of power steering and brakes it has been all I could do to not hit other cars. Over the years my Dodge dealer has offered no help since this doesn't produce a service code. Now I see that this is a wide spread problem and a service bulletin (tsd 18-013-05) was issued that sounds like it may or may not correct the problem. A driver without the strength to handle the truck without power steering and brakes would be in real danger.

Defect(s): cruise control is intermittent and random. Apparently influenced by humidity and rain events. Also involved is the random shifting of the electronic transmission as indicated by the information center readings during the cruise control event(s). The problem has not be duplicated by the manufacturer and/or their authorized repair facilities after three (3) attempts it is electrical in nature thus no repair has been accomplished to date. Litigation is pending but they are demanding an additional repair attempt under the GA lemon law I am urging my attorney to proceed under the magnuson-moss warranty act.

I put the vehicle in to reverse, in which it shows on the dash, then when I start backing up, it slips out of reverse and into neutral, in which nothing shows on the cluster of what gear it is in.

The contact owns a 1999 Dodge Ram 1500. While driving 50 mph the transmission suddenly shifted from low gear to high gear and would not shift into any other gear. Within a few minutes after the first failure, the vehicle would no longer shift to a higher gear. The vehicle was taken to a transmission technician where he informed the contact that the failure was common and could not be repaired. The vehicle was not repaired when the complaint was filed. The failure occurred every time the vehicle was in operation. The failure mileage was 91,000.

This is an update to the complaint I filed due the incident with my stepfather. That complaint is #10246879 wherein I reported a failure in the ignition/parking system that caused his 2003 this is an update to complaint odi 10246879 wherein I reported the failure of the ignition / parking system of his 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 truck. The failure caused his truck to roll over him, catching him up under the truck and dragging him over a curb where it jumped the neighbors fence before coming to a stop. At first it was thought he would survive his injuries but he died from complications of his injuries after a long and painful hospitalization. I am updating that complaint to advise of his death. This appears to be a not so unusual occurrence with this vehicle and I note that the 2002 models were recalled for a similar problem.
Truck popped out of reverse on several occasions. TSB on this. Brought to dealer - upgraded software. Also reported problems where it did not shift into second gear on cold start - had to coast for several hundred feet then hard shift. Dealer could not replicate. At 40,000 miles the transmission had to be rebuilt after loud clunk and then no power when starting out. Check engine light came on. Dealer said until check engine light comes on it was impossible for them to diagnose the transmission problem.
I bought a 2000 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 truck. It was 2 yrs this may/08, it is now in the transmission shop getting a rebuilt tranny at the tune of $3k. The electronics went out and it was full of metal!!! it had low mileage when I bought and seemed in great shape, boy was I screwed. One week after buying it I called clarke motors in virginia to tell them about this light coming on and they told me it was nothing , just a computer sensor - not to worry about it. It is a damn crime that this company continues to build faulty vehicles and puts the consumer as well as their employees at risk. Where is the class action??? where do I sign up?.

Engine light came. Didn't notice anything wrong with the truck. Had a friend put it on the machine to find out what the code was. The code was p0404, egr something. The about a week later, while im driving, im going about 30 mph I let my foot off the gas and my truck stalls. A couple of days after that I was turning into a parking lot and my truck stalls again. Each this happens I am able to put my truck into neutral and start it right up. I noticed that if I am stopped at a light or if I am starting my truck for the first time in the day when I begin to accelerate it it seems to run a little sluggish until I give it some more gas. No accidents have occurred and have not done anything to replace anyparts as of yet. I have a 7 year, 70,000 mile power train warranty and am not sure if this malfunction is covered. I noticed that when I looked up the defects under the investigations that what was happening to my truck was the same thing being investigated. Thank you.
No injuries or accident, but almost happened. Driving and stopped at a stop sign and proceeded across highway in safe manner. When I reached in the middle of the intersection my truck would not go. The engine was still running and tried to proceed and the truck would not go. As oncoming traffic was approaching I got out of my truck and almost watched my truck get hit by another motorist talking on the cell phone. Stopped within 4 feet or lower of hitting my truck. After this I got back in to move my truck to a safe location, I tried again to see if it will go after that and it would only go about 5 miles an hour. So I creeped it to the dealership and they put the truck on the computer and 10 different codes came up. . They couldn't do anything that day and said Monday bring it back. Soon as I got there the service engine light went off and the service advisor said that there were no codes came up. My vehicle has been in the shop over 8 times for the same thing and they could not fix it. I felt my vehicle was very unsafe for me so I traded that vehicle in for another kind of vehicle. The reason I am telling you this I don't want anything to happen to somebody else and cause a serious accident with that type of vehicle I owned and everyone that I'd talk to that had that vehicle said they were having the same problems.
I was exiting a parking lot making a right hand turn from a dead stop. I gradually pressed the accelerator when without warning the vehicle began to accelerate uncontrollably. I pressed the brake pedal as hard as possible, however the power of the motor was too much for the brakes to over come. The front brakes locked up and I was no longer able to steer the vehicle. During this event I was baffled, it took a minute to grasp the fact that truck was accelerating on its own. The vehicle crashed into a guard rail at approximately 15-20 mph where it continued to accelerate until I turned off the ignition. I contacted Chrysler who came out and towed the vehicle to their shop. I am currently waiting a response from the manufacturer.
Engine stalls when braking. Happens frequently when turning corners, due to slowing. Has been happening for several months. Now transmission does not always respond or shifts hard. I have even had to shift on the column.

Vehicle's braking system seemed not to be working properly, taking longer distances to stop. A check of equipment showed all mechanical parts to be fit, and adjusted correctly. Continued to drive vehicle but then had small accident involving braking while going downhill. At this time it was determined I had no brake lights. Diagnostics of the brake light problem determined the combination switch in the steering column was the culprit and had failed, causing loss of brake lights and failure of the transmission to go into coast mode when the brake pedal was applied. This also results in the cruise function to not cancel when brakes are applied. There is no indication of failure through the instrument cluster for this fault. This seems to be a regular problem, as this part is back ordered at the Chrysler dealership. Because of the seriousness of this fault I feel it should be a safety recall, especially since there is no factory part available to repair the condition. My vehicle is still not repaired.
Vehicle after 1000 miles began to hesitate in shifting from low to high, (5 speed transmission). Has gotten worse with additional miles, also, engine will revive up to 3500 rpms without foot on gas pedal. This happens at low speeds. Dodge has been advised of problem but has not solution.
The contact owns a 2008 Dodge 1500. While idling at a stop light with the brake pedal depressed, the engine accelerated and then decelerated back to normal. While attempting to hook a boat up to the vehicle, the contact depressed the brake pedal to place the vehicle in reverse, and the engine accelerated. The brakes were not holding; therefore, he rammed the shifter into park to get the vehicle back under control. This failure has occurred on three separate occasions and was taken to the dealer on each occasion. The dealer stated they would send a technician to inspect the vehicle at his home. As of may 6, 2008, a technician has yet to arrive. The current mileage was 2,300 and failure mileage was 2,112. Updated 6/16/08.
The contact owns a 2002 Dodge Ram 1500. While attempting to park the vehicle, the contact placed the gear into park and the vehicle rolled backwards on its own. He restarted the vehicle, placed it back into park, and applied the emergency brake. The dealer stated that the VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign id number 05v460000 (power train: automatic transmission). The vehicle has not been repaired and he no longer drives the vehicle. The current and failure mileages were 35,000.
The contact owns a 2006 Dodge Ram 1500. If the vehicle is parked overnight or all day, once it is started and placed into gear, it does not move for 10-15 seconds when the accelerator pedal is depressed. The failure occurred on November 20, 2007 and is gradually becoming worse. The dealer stated that the failure was typical of a 2006 Dodge ram and that several of them were experiencing the failure. The contact stated that this was unacceptable. The current mileage was 28,925 and failure mileage was 22,000. Updated 07/29/08. Updated 08/05/08.
Purchased truck new in 2001. In 2004 truck started shifting hard into 4th. Also after sitting overnight in high humidity would start rough or not start at all. Would only start after engine warmed or "dried" out. Problem could not be found after running diagnostics on either problem. 2007; throttle sensor went out. Nov 2007, truck would start out in 2nd gear, would not shift down into 1st. Three days later transmission would shift at all, had to drive home a top speed of 25 mph at 2,000 rpm's. It's now getting a new transmission.

Since new the 2006 Dodge 1500 quad cab has excessive shaking at idle position. Dealer said shaking is due to the vehicle type. When cold the truck doesn't engage in reverse fully which causes slippage. . . It doesn't want to move without hard accelerator depression.
My 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 quad cab automatic transmission with only 84600 miles just died without warning or slipping of the tranny,I took it to get repaired. It got a tranny flush but still didn't want to shift so I took it back in and in the investigation ,we realized that it needed a new tranny. Theres no way a transmission should go out with only 84000 miles and with all the complaints I researched , I believe as well as all the complainants, that Dodge should be liable and make a national recall for this continuing problem.
The contact owns a 2006 Dodge Ram 1500. While loading the trailer attached to the vehicle, the vehicle began moving forward without warning. As a result, the trailer crashed into the rear driver side wheel well. The contact stated that this occurred while the vehicle was geared in park. The road conditions were clear. The dealer has not inspected the vehicle to determine the cause of the failure. The VIN was unknown. The current mileage is 8,000 and failure mileage was 7,600.
2001 Dodge ram, the dash is cracked and rotten all the way across. This new of a vehicle should not look like trash on the inside, and there is a real safety concern with all the dash components working correctly. There is a serious issue going on here, if every Dodge dash is cracking. Dodge transmission- normal highway use and the transmission is already junk, all other brands are still going fine on their first transmission and theirs are a lot older than mine. Transmission just quit and nearly caused me to crash, this needs to be dealt with in a serious manner.
- the contact called regarding the 2004 Dodge Ram 1500. The contact did research and found the vehicle had a recall 034503000 for the automatic transmission. The contact called the dealer & manufacturer to see if this vehicle was affected. Both the dealer and the manufacturer stated the information was proprietary and they could not release it. The vehicle had 34,000 miles.
Truck parked on driveway in park--did not hold and rolled backwards into tree on the lawn causing damage to the rear bumper-luckily it did strike the tree other wise it would have been on the street. I have the same problem of shifting into drive--and reverse the engagement points are no where they are shown to be on the shifter. There is also a hesitation when engaged(sometimes) and will engage roughly with a jerk. I ve been told that there was a defective connector inside the steering column and that there was a safety recall on this part--cannot get a direct answer from a local dealer here --what's the score on this.
Engine stalling by 2004 Dodge Ram 1500-5. 7l v8 engine. This has been a recurring issue and directly led to an accident causing over $10,000 in damage and near fatal injuries. Further, this vehicle (and others I have become aware of) have been serviced at the dealership on time/schedule but this issue has never been addressed nor have they been recalled or repaired despite numerous complaints. Fortunately the repairs were covered by insurance but the vehicle still has the same problem for which neither the local dealer nor Chrysler-Dodge et, al. Has addressed this issue (although reading the files it is clear they spent hundreds of thousands of dollars and man hours to refute/dismiss this matter.
My Dodge Ram 1500 sport 4x4 went from park to drive without pressing the brake pedal while the ignition was off. My 3 year old pulled the shifter while standing in the front seat. The truck was parked on an incline and rolled down the hill and crashed into trees. Causing approx. $5000. 00 worth of damage. Have been told that it should not do this by the Dodge dealership. Have heard several other complaints from other Dodge owners about this same type of problem. Fortunately, there were no injuries this time. But,this type of problem could have very easily caused major injury or death to my child.
I placed the truck in park and exited the vehicle. The truck then began to roll backwards in reverse. I was knocked down by the open door before I could reenter the truck and rolled away to avoid being run over. The truck backed into a fence post damaging the drivers door and right front fender. The fence post was also bent over.
I have a 2006 Dodge Ram 1500. It was bought in November 2005. The transmission started leaking so I took into the dealership that I bought it from. It is a silicone seal on the transmission was it was leaking. The dealership replaced the seal. The next day it was leaking way worse than before. I called the dealership and let them know of the problem and they told me that they could replace it again but most likely it would still leak because it was a silicone seal and they couldn't put any other seal on it because it was against Dodges regulations. That is what the put on the truck from the factory so the can't put anything else on it. So the transmission will continue to leak. I don't agree with this especially the amount of money that I paid for the vehicle and also my safety as well as others. Also it is still under warranty. So now if this problem isn't fixed my transmission will have to be replaced.
On Saturday April 15, 2006 we were driving home and the transmission in our 2002 Dodge ram truck began slipping. We had to drive in low gear to get home. We took the truck to schaefer and strominger, the dealer we purchased the truck brand new from in 2002 and were told "OH its probably just a switch, we'll replace it and its good you bought the power train warranty. . . Well this 2002 truck on has approximately 26,000 miles on it! after having the truck for over a week, I was told the whole transmission had to be replaced on this truck. . . . A truck that only has 26,000 miles on it. Well not only schaefer and strominger, but also Chrysler themselves don't have enough sense to give me a loaner car for the inconvenience of dealing with their defective product. There is no way I should have to be replacing the transmission in a truck that is hardly driven and has never, ever hauled anything. I have spoken to a lot of people about this, I am finding out that this is a problem everyone is having with these trucks and something needs to be done to Chrysler to make them fix these at no cost to the consumer. I am thoroughly disgusted with the "OH well, what a shame" attitude Chrysler has, we consumers spend a lot of money on these vehicles and we all deserve not only a better product, but also better customer service. Please tell me there is someone out there who can make these manufactures stand behind the products they sell before someone gets seriously hurt or killed driving on of these trucks.
