I was driving my 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 truck and my transmission went out. I was able to get it to my service dealership where they repaired it. I only had 37,000 miles on my vehicle at the time. I didn't have the extended warranty on my vehicle. I had to use a rental car. Then on top of everything, Chrysler damler would not pay for my rental. The real issue here is that my transmission should not have gone out under 40,000 miles.

I am about to put 4th transmission in 2001-1500-Dodge ram-4x4
I have never pulled a thing and have had it in 4x4 less than 10 times. My dashboard has cracked in several places and I understand this is a common problem with a Dodge. The transmission problem is common in these trucks. The first transmission I had replaced was done by a dealer. The mechanic told me that the part that caused the problem was a part that Dodge had "redesigned". So basically Dodge knew there was a problem and did not offer to pay for what they knew was a failure.

During cold weather, you can put the vehicle in reverse and it will not move at all, to get it to move you have to put the vehicle back in park and then in reverse and sort of wiggle the shifting lever. Also during in cold weather the vehicle when in drive wants to take off by itself and you have to press the brake pedal down hard to keep it from taking off into traffic.

: the contact stated while idling in the driveway the vehicle jumped into reverse and went backward into a garage. The vehicle and garage were damaged. The vehicle was seen by the dealership and repaired under warranty.
The contact states after parking vehicle she got out of the vehicle and it popped out of gear and hit another vehicle. At a later time the contact's husband put the vehicle in park and it popped out of gear. The vehicle was taken to dealer to be inspected. He drove the vehicle and the same thing happened, it popped out of gear. However, no repairs have been made.
98 Dodge 1500. 77000 miles. Transmission continually shifts back and forth between 2nd and 3rd gears and/or 3rd and 4th gears. Fluid and filter are good.

I was going home from work, traffic real heavy stopped for traffic, started to go truck would not move, could not drive it out of the traffic or on the shoulder of the road. I had it towed found out the transmission was gone in it. Had it fixed, very high priced. I know there has been a lot of complaints about the transmission, shouldn't it be a recall on this. It could have cost me my life or others. There was no other signs, other than it would not move. This year truck models has been a nightmare. First the dash spit in many places ,then the air condition went out and then the transmission. When it started it was only 3 years old, its not paid for. I will never buy a Dodge again, unless the Dodge company shows me that they are a bit concern. None of these things were fixed by them or a recall. I have been talking to a lot of the truck owners and they are having these same problems. There should at least be a recall on the transmission, thank god that it wasn't anyone hurt but it was very much dangerous. Please look into this model, its not what I am paying for. Thank you.
September 2005 while at work I got out of my 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 6 cylinder. Truck for about 1 minute. I left the motor running and somehow it went from park to reverse and caused 2,800 dollars worth of damage to another vehicle.
Since day one of purchasing the vehicle in sept. 2005, I have had a problem with it stalling or lunging forward when shifting (automatic) into drive. It has been to the dealership on at least 3 occasions, 1 with me duplicating the problem. They are unable to fix the problem and do not seem concerned with getting it fixed.
Has happened numerous times! when parked on any kind of incline, the truck running or not (has happened both ways) has rolled backwards and is very difficult to stop with the brakes. Luckily no one has been run over, and it hasn't hit anything, but next time may not be so lucky! I now use the parking brake at all times when truck is parked. This is a very dangerous problem that needs addressed by Chrysler!.
I have a Dodge 1500 v6 truck that has been a pain every since I have had it. It never ran right from day one and I would take it back to the dealership and they said nothing was wrong with it. Now at 64,000 miles the transmission is blown. They really suck this was my 3rd vehicle from Dodge and I had problems with everyone.
Transmission has gone bad on 2001 Dodge ram. Week later engine needs to be replaced because of "oil sludge". Have seen same problem documented on other sites about Dodge engines.
Our truck has stalled aprox. 15-20 times while we are driving down the road or while making turns. It hasn't resulted in any accidents yet, but there has been many times when we are making a turn and it stalls all of a sudden while traffic is coming twoards us. I feel that we have only so much time before this causes a bad accident. Our truck is a 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 5. 7 liter hemi. I hope that there will be a recall on this matter, because I've read many other peoples complaints about this same thing. I feel very unsafe driving with my wife and my 3 year old son in the truck, not to mention the lives of the people in the other cars.

Problem occured on may 1 2005. A child climbed into vehcile and moved the gear shift and the vehicle rolled. Owner caught the vehicle before it imacted the house, but the bumper did scrape the house. The gear shift was moved from park into gear. Parking break was not set. Child was in vehicle while it was in motion.
Transmisson: third time in for repiar. 1. Transmisson connector went causing loss of all fluid while traveling on highway; 2. Linkage needed to be tightned would not shift. Problems starting. . Unknown problme with 4 wheel drive and transmisson overheating.
Transmission no longer has reverse. This was repaired once at dealership in February 04 at cost of $2135. 41. Now, to rebuild for same problem 13 months and 22k miles later is $3064. 47 at same dealer. They blame increase in cost of parts. Contacted Dodge consumer help line and was told that there was nothing they could do due to 12/12 warranty expired. They blamed increase cost on increased labor rate at dealership. Both suggest remanufactured transmission at cost of $3857. 95. Called local transmisison repair shops and was quoted $1100 - $1700 for same repair, and both offer same or better warranty. Second shop told me what my problem was by just knowing year and make of my truck. There is a manufacturer's problem with this transmission !!!!!!!!!.

I have replaced 4 46re transmissions in my 01 Dodge ram sport 4x4. The 46re is a terrible transmission and they are known for being bad. They even have that as a reputation. Chrysler needs to do a recall on these transmissions for what has happened to many consumers. I have been through 4 transmission from 46,000miles to 109,000 miles, and I need to replace the one that is in it now. It has failed out of nowhere without any warning and has almost caused accidents. It costs atleast 2000 to replace the transmission and I've had to pay for 1 of them because they aren't covered under any warranty. Chrysler should be held accountable.
I was driving on a 4 lane highway at 65 miles per hour when I suddenly lost speed and the rpm were heading to redline. I hit my brake in the middle of traffic trying to keep from hurting my engine. When I got pulled to the side of the road I checked to see if I could go and I had no transmission. I only have 78,000 miles on my truck and don't pull heavy loads or load my pick-up with heavy loads. I have talked with other people that have the same year Dodge pick-up and they have had similar problems. I am having my transmission replaced along with the transmission cooler because it has parts of my clutch in it. I found 5 people in my county that have had problems with their 98 pick-ups and have had them fixed and then traded them for another brand of vehicle. I would really like to know why nobody has investigated this or recalled the vehicle because of this problem.
I own a 2001 Dodge ram truck. I bought the truck used from a dealership with 40,000 miles on it. One week later the transmission blew. I had to pay $1500 to get it fixed. This has been an ongoing problem with the truck since I bought it. No body can figure out what is wrong with it. Im out all this money and the truck is worthless to me. Everyone I talk to that owns one of these trucks has transmission problems "everyone". I think the Chrysler corp. Should have a recall on these transmissions!.
While returning home from seeing my first grandchild, south of hershey PA my transmission died at approx. 50,000 miles. I had to have the vehicle towed from the interstate and the transmission rebuilt. They told me there were a lot of metal shavings in the transmission which clogged up the works. This cost me almost $3,000. 00 plus the cost of being stranded out of town for 5 days. I now have 92,000 miles on the truck and have to have the transmission rebuilt again. I do not know the cost to do this yet. Plus I have the cost of obtaining alternate transportation to get to work for about 14 days until I get the work completed. The first repair work was done by aamco and the warranty on their work was for 12 months or 12,000 miles, whichever came first. I had aamco do a diagnostic on the vehicle and they told me the transmission was "toast".
Dt: transmission is getting too hot. Consumer went to dealership who said they have had similar problems, but there is no recall. The transmission was repaired for this problem once already and the problem is occurring again.
Had to have the transmission rebuilt, water pump replaced, ignition problems which lead to a burnt computer box. All of this was suppose to be under my extended warranty; which they dropped when I told them that I had 2 drivers. This was always under a business contract. Never heard again from the warranty CO. Except to say that I was cancelled. Dodge Ram 1500 are junk vehicles.
I have a Dodge Ram 1500 that I just purchased 7 months ago used and guess what the transmission is gone and this truck only has 37, 000 miles on it. I believe that Dodge knew this piece of crap was no good. I feel like the dealership that sold it to me might know something about it. But I am fighting with the dealership and Dodge now to put a transmission in it. The dealership never offer extended warranty because they thought it had a 70,000 miles warranty and it does not. Tell me I didn't get a lemon. I used to be a Dodge/Chrysler person after this I will never look at another one.
Transmission problem, hesitates changing into high gear,{I/e}engine lugs down. Was told when taken in for service ,it was because it is only a 6 cyc. I`m not satisfied at all.
1998 Dodge Ram 1500 transmisson; the tranmission failed on my truck at 60,000 miles! evidently, there is a problem with these Dodge transmissions and this is a very common problem. Nobody can say that 60,000 miles is resonable for such a major repair (about $3,000 in my case). I want Dodge to acknowledge this problem (recall probably) and reimburese me for this repair.
While driving vehicle jerked forward when consumer tried to down shift the transmission gears. Dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem. In addition, consumer is having trouble with tires and its sidewall and requesting manufacturer to design tires for off road conditions. Front brake rotors are warped and the pads have 80 percent left at 34,000 miles.

Have had to replace transmission twice, making a total of 3 transmissions on a vehicle with less than 75000 miles! the 2nd was 200 miles over the warranty. Daimler/Chrysler response. . . Too bad. Also the dash has cracked , and the rear window leaks. Georgia lemon law is worthless!!.

Transmission went completly out!! after several attempt to have it fixed by the dealership benny boyd in lampassas texas. I contacted chysler daimler to have it taken care, the refused to fix it.
Transmission broke down.
On Friday, Nov. 28, 2003 my husband died as the result of our 2003 Dodge ram jumping from park into reverse, the drivers door hit him from behind and rolled him over forward, penning him under the drivers door and pavement. This incidnet was reported to and investigated by the birmingham police dept.
I have heard several complaints of the 46re transmission on Dodge trucks, hoping I would not experience it. On wed. November 12 2003 my transmission blew. Chrysler will not do anything cause of my mileage of 55,000. The truck has never towed or hauled anything. This transmission problem needs to be addressed. My truck is going to get a rebuilt in it but I will be without a vehicle for the next 3 weeks. This is not acceptable for a $30,000 vehicle.
While driving at 40 mph and coming to complete stop automatic transmission doesn't shift properly from the second gear to the third gear.
Transmission is not shifting properly. There is a period of free-wheeling when it downshifts from the od back into fourth gear, causing increased pressure to have to be applied to braking the pickup which in turn causes a jerking while braking. There is also a pause before the transmission shifts, it is slow getting into each gear and does not downshift properly. The rear-end has excessive slack to the point of startling people if nearby when shifting into gears. These have all been described as normal by the dealer. Not so!.
The dashboards of our Dodge survey truck have failed and had to be replaced at our expense. Not only have the dashboards failed but the transmissions as well, and again replaced at our expense.
When putting vehicle in reverse it produced a loud noise. Then, when switching gears the vehicle shut off. Dealer notified.
