Failure Date: 02/08/2014

2007 Dodge Ram 1500 mega cab 4x4 with previous recall for front steering linkage drivers side tie rod snapped while driving making me loose control of the vehicle. Recently notified by dealership during a routine maintenance that a recall for this item had been issued. I never received recall notice from Dodge. Dealership confirmed that the left tie rod needs to be replaced under the n62 recall. Dealership inspected per Dodge direction and confirmed it was safe to drive vehicle. I was placed on waiting list for part. Part would not be available until may possibly. Dealership is only allowed to order 1 recall kit per week per the service manager. I noticed Dodge customer service and was issued case number. Vehicle is at dealership service at this point and I am waiting for response.

38 Steering Tie Rod Assembly problem of the 2007 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 01/16/2014

My family and I were driving home a few days ago when suddenly the steering wheel jerked hard left while the front end of the truck started sliding into oncoming traffic. I corrected the wheel but it was so loose that we fish tailed the other direction. The steering wheel was violently whipping back and forth as I tried desperately to gain control. Finally the truck straightened out and seemed to be functioning normally after the near catastrophic accident. The following day I took the truck and it started screeching like dragging metal under the drivers side floorboard. I got out to see if anything was dragging from the truck, but didn't see anything. I made it home but it was screeching off and on. The next day when I jacked the wheel off the ground to check under the car I found that the wheel was very loose. I started doing some research online to diagnose the problem and I soon found two recalls for my truck. The first recall was a faulty left tie rod assembly and another was an unreliable wheel hub assembly. I called Chrysler corp. To get my truck fixed but I was told that it was not part of any of the recalls. I verified that my truck was on both recall lists and she agree while explaining every vehicle in that particular production wasn't recalled.

40 Steering Tie Rod Assembly problem of the 2008 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 01/06/2014

My complaint regards the unreasonable length of time it is taking Chrysler to resolve recall n49. This is a tie rod issue. Pretty important, considering the ball stud could fracture and cause the loss of steering while customers are on the road. As instructed by the notice, I called our local dealer January 6, 2014 to schedule an appointment. I was told to call back the following week. I did so promptly and was told I would be put on a list for repair. I was #130 and parts were expected to be shipped by Chrysler just once every two weeks. I called again April 30. I am now #120. I'm told that, even if the parts were coming in at a faster pace, the dealership is not adequately staffed. It appears to me that this safety issue - one that can, and probably will, result in loss of lives -- is not an urgent matter to Chrysler. If it were, it would be sending the replacement parts to the dealers in a timely manner and footing the bill to temporarily staff the dealership to get this resolved.

43 Steering Tie Rod Assembly problem of the 2006 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 01/01/2014

I was traveling 50 to 55 mph my vehicle veered to the left out of control. I attempted corrective steering with no response from the steering. I hit the guardrail direct with the front of the vehicle causing substantial damage. On 1/2/2014 I went and looked at my truck and noticed that part of the steering knuckle was broke off from the center of the hole for the tie rod and missing. The tie rod shaft was not bent indicating the steering knuckle may have failed.

44 Steering Tie Rod Assembly problem of the 2010 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 12/04/2013

I own a 2010 Dodge ram slt. I recently had it in to have the rear axle pinion nut replaced and was told I have bad tie rod ends. At 46,000 miles I found this hard to believe. After further investigation it was accurate that my tie rod ends were bad. I replaced both tie rod ends at 46,000 miles. Then had to pay for an alignment of course. This is a huge concern for me because I transport my children to and from school daily. How is it possible that at 46,000 miles my tie rod ends need replacement. This could have also led to my tires needing to be replaced at 36,000 miles even though they were rotated every 6 k. Chrysler has issued a recall for ram 2500 and up for replacing the tie rod ends because of moisture and dirt that gets into the ball and socket. Maybe they should have included the 1500 as well.

47 Steering Tie Rod Assembly problem of the 2008 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 04/19/2013

Mechanic showed me that tie rod ends are loose and must be replaced. Several Ram 1500s have had a recall on tie rods but a call to Chrysler recall office turns up negative for my truck. I propose that 2008 should be included in Ram 1500 recalls too. The rod has worn out at low mileage.

49 Steering Tie Rod Assembly problem of the 2006 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 02/23/2013

While traveling on interstate at ~ 65 mph, I hit a series of bumps that caused the front suspension to shake violently. This only subsided after slowing to < 35 mph and (fortunately) avoiding a crash. After doing some research, this is consistent with "death wobble". I am amazed that there is not a recall regarding this issue. I had new ball joints and tie rod ends installed ~ 6 months ago.

50 Steering Tie Rod Assembly problem of the 2008 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 09/08/2012

We were driving our Dodge Ram 1500 mega cab (51,000 miles) on interstate 25 just south of douglass wyoming. We were going approximately 77 miles per hour and in an instant I lost all control of the steering and we ended up off the side of the road after a very frightening experience. I bought this truck just over a year ago from a dealer outside denver, CO. When the tow driver arrived, he immediately told me that my tie rod probably broke as my right front tire went completely sideways and was now rendered useless. He mentioned that we were very lucky as most times he sees these types of things, the truck rolls over. He also mentioned there was a recall on these tie rods. We had it towed to a dealer in douglass and are waiting to hear what they have to say on Monday. I ran my VIN# on Dodge's web site to see if its a recall, but its telling me that my truck doesn't have any on it. Candidly, after talking to mechanics locally, they said a tie rod should never bust like that and with so little miles on the truck. To say this is dangerous is clearly an understatement. This type of "defect" is going to kill people as it almost did us. I sure hope Dodge does the right thing with our truck. I have had nothing but issues with this truck since the day we took it off the lot. Within a month, the transmission went out and once again, Dodge said it wasn't their fault - 40,000 miles and a transmission goes out? after fighting with them for another month, they did repair and pay for the fix. . .

51 Steering Tie Rod Assembly problem of the 2007 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 09/01/2012

The outer tie rods are worn again. I had them replaced already once, at approximately 22,000 miles. Don't think that they should wear so fast, this will be the 3rd set including the originals. I see that Dodge has recalled the 2008 my and greater, but not 2007. I think with a late model 2007, chances are the parts are the same as the 2007 my. I think Dodge should pay for this 2nd repair and provide some sort of warranty for it for the future.

There is a safety recall on certain Dodge ram tie rods (recall #l16) but for some reason my VIN was not included in this recall. Sure enough the tie rod was near failing and I had it replaced before a catastrophic failure could occur. Why was my VIN left off of this recall? the signs and conditions of my faulty tie rod are identical to all of the documented failures.

Both left and right tie rods failed at 3 years old and 4 years old and we replaced them out of pocket. All 4 O2 sensors failed at 5 years old but dealer failed to diagnose this correctly while the truck was still under warranty and we had to replace these and the pcm, which burnt out because of the defective O2 sensors, after the truck was not under warranty any more. The airbags are defective and Chrysler does not have the parts to fix it and we can't sell the vehicle as it is. Chrysler states it is not part of the buyback and now we are stuck with an unsafe vehicle that we can't sell.

68 Steering Tie Rod Assembly problem of the 2008 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 05/18/2011

Steering became very loose and uneven tire wear at 35,900. The truck felt like the front end was going to fall off and was wandering and bouncing. I took the truck into the dealer (royal Dodge owego, NY) for evaluation in the summer of 2011 and was told the left tie rod end was defective and the truck was out of warranty. I obtained a quote of approximately $200 to replace the left front tie rod end and do an alignment. I ended up replacing the tie rod end myself ($50) and having the truck lined up ($80) at moore's tire sales in owego, NY. Upon evaluation of the defective tie rod, I noticed there wasn't any grease from the factory on the tie rod ball once I cut the boot open. I also ended up having to replace the tires due to the uneven tire wear. I am aware of the recalls on this truck but I have the extended cab version and the recall is only for the mega cab version???? I think the recall should also include the extended cab version also. Is there any recourse for fiat Chrysler to reimburse me for the expense? I also just had to replace the right outer tie rod for the same condition at 58,000 miles.
