1 Steering Is Loose problem of the 2006 Dodge Ram 2500

Failure Date: 04/26/2016

While driving the right tie rod broke on my 2006 Dodge Ram 2500 diesel. I was driving 30 mph on a side street when the steering went loose and I was able to get the vehicle to the side of the road.

2 Steering Is Loose problem of the 2007 Dodge Ram 2500

Failure Date: 11/20/2012

Nov. 2012 I bought my 2007 Dodge ram truck 2500 for $21,000 soon after, we realized it had some front end problems. I took it for a front end alignment the following month - which did not improve the front end steering looseness, vibration and "clunking". I took it into a large, local tire/ front end service business for an evaluation. The first thing they told me is what everyone was telling me, " these Dodge trucks are known for bad front ends". They did however, then tell me that the truck would need almost $1,000 worth of work to make it right. I did not have them do the repairs because I could not afford it, I had been told by so many that this was normal for Dodge trucks and I thought I should get another opinion later. The truck has three open safety recalls on it. I took it to our local Dodge dealership so the service writer could look at the front end (came out to the parking lot and looked at it) she said that it did need steering recall repairs. I asked that parts be ordered for that, plus airbag for the third recall. She said she didn't have any parts, "the manufacturer only sends us a few parts a month so whoever is on the top of the list will get a call when the parts are available". I left my name/number. When I bought the truck it had 64,650 miles and now, three years later only 67,900. I drive it only locally because I don't trust it, the steering is unpredictabe, loose, clunky and has too much play in the wheel. When getting up to 50 mph or so, it vibrates also. I want this truck to be included in the Chrysler/Dodge buy back plan or the class action suite brought by the owner of a 2007 Dodge ram 3500 for the "death shake" at higher speeds. Thank you, cindy smith.

3 Steering Is Loose problem of the 2011 Dodge Ram 2500

Failure Date: 05/04/2012

At normal driving speeds, when a bump or expansion joint is hit, a violent shimmy occurs in the front end. The way to make this stop is by hitting the brakes lightly bringing the speed down. The steering feels loose. It's happened 6-8 times in the last 5 days. The truck sways back and forth, this is a serious potentially dangerous issue.

4 Steering Is Loose problem of the 2006 Dodge Ram 2500

Failure Date: 05/03/2011

Driving at highway speeds front steering seems loose and when I hit any bumps I have had "death wobble". A violent shake almost to the point that steering wheel ripped out of my hands. I had brought the truck to a local dealership and was told that nothing was wrong. I finally contacted Chrysler and the woman I spoke with said unless the dealership says there is something broken they will not help me. The funny part is they have a complete fix kit to solve a problem they say does not exist that will cost you around 600. 00 just for the parts nevermind the dealers absurdly inflated labor charges. You would think when you spend 42,000. 00 on a vehicle it should be safe and engineered right the first time and if there is a documented problem as widespread as this it should be rectified.

5 Steering Is Loose problem of the 2009 Dodge Ram 2500

Failure Date: 04/26/2011

The complaint has to do with the complete failure of the driver side tie rod assembly. The stud completely sheared from the end of the tie rod assembly. The driver side tie-rod failure occurred on the morning of April 26,2011. This failure happened with almost no warning. The steering became loose for a second or two and then the front of the truck shook violently for just an instant and then the tie-rod failure occurred with total loss of steering resulting in both front wheels pointing inward to their full extent. At this point I was traveling between 20-25 mph. The truck then skidded across two lanes of traffic and stopped at the curb. I would also like to point out that nothing was struck by my vehicle to cause this failure.

6 Steering Is Loose problem of the 2001 Dodge Ram 2500

Failure Date: 06/15/2003

Steering. I purchased a used 1998 Dodge 2500 with the diesel engine. The steering was very loose, with almost 1/4 turn free play in the steering wheel. The dealer said the track bar was worn out, so I replaced it but did not see any improvement. The dealer then told me there was a problem with the steering box during that year and a different type was used in 1999 due to continuous complaints about the free play in the steering. Because I felt driving a vehicle with this much free play was dangerous and I was told the proble was corrected, I traded for a new truck of the same type, buying a 2001. When new, there was not much free play. At about 20,000 miles, I had about 1/8 turn of free play in the steering wheel. This free play caused me to run out of the road on the right side after passing another vehicle then almost hit another vehicle when I came back into the road and went into the left lane. I have taken this vehicle to 2 different Dodge dealers and been told there is no problem with the steering, that the free play is normal.
