After traveling 10 miles during my morning commute, while at 40 mph, a spark plug ejected from my Ford triton v8 engine causing raw fuel fumes to enter the engine compartment and passenger cabin. This has resulted in an estimated $1900 repair bill from my local Ford dealer to remove and repair the plug threads for the ejected plug.
The #3 spark plug on my '97 Ford E-350 van blew out (about 1 year after the plugs were changed) while starting to drive slowly in a parking lot. I have been told by more than one mechanic that this is common on this engine (5. 4 l 8-cylinder) and that it is a design defect. I have not had the money to get it fixed yet (estimated by mechanic to be $1500 to pull the head and repair). I have also read that there is a good possibility of fire when this happens, although that did not happen in our case (we shut down the engine right away and had it towed home).

I have a Ford E-350 super duty van that has had drivable problems since it was new. After many trips to dealerships I was told that there was no fix at this time and Ford should come out with a fix in the future. The engine dies when hot at times causing hard braking and loss of steering. At 100699 miles, just 699 miles out of warranty the engine quite running when hot. If it sits for 6 or more hours it will restart and run for only 20 minutes. Ford told me it was no longer under warranty and would provide no assistance.

Our family was riding in our 2001 Ford E-350 super duty 15-passenger van powered by Fords 5. 4l v8 255 hp on I-80 eastbound near milesburg, PA this past Saturday afternoon (July 7,2007) and one of the spark plugs blew out of the cylinder head. I am awaiting repairs even now. I have noticed our government's reluctance to issue a recall on what appears to be a recurring problem for '97-04 Ford engines with the aluminum heads. The repairs are very expensive! please help! thanks, david lipsy.
The contact owns a 1999 Ford E-350. The contact stated that the spark plug has blown out of the head due to the lack of threading needing to keep it in place. The mechanic informed him that the failure has occurred three times within the last five weeks. There are no recalls available for this failure. The mechanic also stated that this could be due to a design flaw. The VIN was invalid. The failure mileage was 139,000 and current mileage was 140,000.

Spark plug was blown out of the aluminum head of an E-350 Ford v-8 vortex engine. Mechanics I have spoken to have reported familiarity with this exact problem when vehicle reaches 60,000 plus miles. Individual with same type and year (97) truck is having same trouble.
There is a hole in the left side engine head under the thermostat housing, when the holes break through, the engine compartment and cover inside of the van get covered with boiling hot antifreeze/coolant.
