24 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2015 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 06/23/2021

On June 23rd, I turned on my 2015 Ford Edge and heard a knocking/rattling noise coming from the engine that I had never heard before. It got worse when the a/c was on and while idling. It somewhat subsided while accelerating but became very loud again when I came to a stop. I took it to my local mechanic that is Ford trained, and after putting the car up, he indicated that he thought it was a broken flex plate. He said it was good that I had come in because if I had ignored it and been driving on the freeway, my car could have just shut off - which I think we can agree is highly dangerous. There was never a warning light or any indication of a problem prior to hearing the rattling/knocking sound on June 23rd. My mechanic advised me to call Ford to see if there was anything they would be willing to do as the repair was costly. I called my local Ford dealership in irvine, CA on Thursday, June 24th and the service manager said that since it went out of warranty in oct 2020, that the repair would be out of pocket. My mechanic then advised me to call Ford motor company in michigan to see if there was anything they could do or provide assistance with. I spoke with "belle" at 11:30am, and she advised me that there were no programs available for my vehicle. I was in disbelief considering there is a recall on the very same part for 2016-2017 Ford Edges. She apologized and said there was nothing they could do. She provided a case number #cas-32262245 and said she would let her engineering department and the NHTSA. The total cost of the repair was $1,819. 64 and the cost of my rental from enterprise for the 5 days was $611. 74. I have photos of the repair process as well as the actual cracked flexplate part. This should not happen on a vehicle with 44k miles on it and I certainly should not be footing the bill for it when Ford damn well knows this is a manufacturing problem on their part.

25 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2010 Ford Edge

2010 Ford Edge trasmission. After driving at highway speeds for about an hour and then come to a stop. When you start to go again the transmission feels like it goes to neutral and then slams into drive. Sometimes it takes less than a second to correct itself and sometimes its 2-3 seconds before it goes. It has happend almost every time we drive at highway speeds. Dealer cannot replicate the issue.

26 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2008 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 10/26/2016

2008 Ford Edge transmission issues. The transmission does not shift properly and sticks in gear and shifts very erratically. It happens at least once a day or more depending on how often it is driven. The car has become unresponsive at different times to the the gas pedal and has actually shut off in the middle of the road, we were able to coast barely to safety. From reading Ford forums it is a very common problem, and Ford knows about it but will do nothing to correct the problem. We do not feel safe many times driving the car not knowing what the transmission will or won't do next,.

27 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2008 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 04/12/2015

I have a 2008 Ford Edge. I have been putting up with many issues until the last one I experienced last year. My usual problems have been when on an incline & trying to go forward, the car will go backwards causing you to have your foot on the brake and the gas at the same time so you will not hit the car behind you. Also the transmission shifts very hard. When driving the vehicle will jerk for no apparent reason. But the last problem that caused me to park the vehicle was when it just stopped accelerating in the middle of traffic. I was fortunate to be able to coast to a nearby parking lot. I am afraid to drive this vehicle now. I cannot afford to take it to a dealership to have repairs right now.

29 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2010 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 06/17/2011

Ve had the transmission violently engage while on highway at 60 mph at 7400 miles about 5 mos ago. Car suddenly decelerated and went into l gear and slowed down like out of gas. I had to put it back into drive. Then when pulling out of driveway upon acceleration at 11000 miles. Again same thing. 2 weeks later putting into reverse when starting car made awful crunching and popping sound like ran over something. Then 15 min later slowing down at stoplight around 25-30 miles again jerked into low drive during traffic. Very scary especially when was on highway with little kids in the car. Found several other reports on Ford Edge from others. When I went for 7500 mile oil change notified them of this problem but could not find a Ford report in system. Since then has happened several times. Bringing car in this Monday to Ford.

30 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2007 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 05/15/2011

2007 Ford Edge will roll backward when on the slightest incline while vehicle is in drive. The vehicle will not stop rolling until the brake is depressed or it settles on flat ground. It also does this in reverse and you are pointed downhill. I recently was parked in a downhill position, released the park brake, placed the vehicle in reverse and had to slam on the brakes to stop the Edge from slamming into a car in front of me. The Edge started to quickly go downhill and I had to accelerate quickly to go in reverse and miss the other vehicle. This problems seems to getting worse as the mileage builds. I currently have 72,000 miles on the Edge. I took this vehicle to greenwood Ford in bowling green, ky and was told that this was normal and that there was nothing they could do. Their service manager took me for a drive in a 2010 Edge and it did the same thing. I called Ford customer relations and was told that they had never heard this complaint before. This is a severe safety issue and needs to be corrected.

31 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2007 Ford Edge
