1 Power Train problem of the 2019 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 03/16/2026

2019 Ford Edge shudders and fails to accelerate making it difficult and unsafe to merge with traffic, execute left turns, and drive safely. There are no warning lights. This appears to be a known problem with the torque converter but no recall has been issued.

2 Power Train problem of the 2022 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 03/06/2026

Vehicle started shuddering. Year is a 2022 so less than 5 years old. My son and I both drive this vehicle and the car starts to slow and jerk making it unsafe to drive. Taken vehicle to many shops who could not find the problem. Finally took it to Ford and they confirmed the torque converter is failing. I bought this vehicle because I thought it would be a safe family vehicle and boy was I wrong. Please make this right. I've done my research and I've seen many complaints about this same exact problem. Noone in this current economy has 11,000 to put into a vehicle I still have 6 years to pay on. This vehicle is new and should not need a new transmission.

3 Power Train problem of the 2020 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 03/05/2026

The transmission keeps shuddering and jerking at low speeds. I have problems driving behind school buses or any slow moving vehicle. The vehicle has a problem when merging onto highways and loses acceleration power due to jerking. I have spoken to 3 separate Edge owners who all have the same problem. Some of us can't afford the repairs but these vehicles are still being sold with this known problem.

5 Power Train problem of the 2020 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 02/13/2026

My vehicle is a 2020 Ford Edge sel. I am experiencing ongoing transmission shuddering, jerking, and rpm fluctuations during normal driving. At slow speeds, the vehicle jerks and shudders, making it very difficult to drive smoothly in traffic and when accelerating from a stop. At higher speeds, the rpm gauge jumps while driving, and the vehicle feels like it is slipping or shifting unpredictably. The condition has been getting worse over time. This problem matches the known defect described in Ford technical service bulletin (TSB) 20-2081 related to transmission shudder. My vehicle’s year, make, and model match those affected by this known issue; however, my VIN is not included in any recall. The unpredictable jerking, shuddering, and rpm fluctuations create unsafe driving conditions, especially when merging into traffic, turning, or maintaining speed. I believe this is a widespread defect affecting the safe operation of the vehicle and should be investigated by NHTSA for a potential recall. I am submitting this complaint to request that this defect be reviewed for investigation and corrective action.

6 Power Train problem of the 2019 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 02/13/2026

The transmission/torque converter completely failed after being maintained while driving on the highway without any warning. The transmission began jerking and bucking, almost sending me into the oncoming lane while driving. Coupled with the lane departure avoidance system automatically turning my wheel, the vehicle became uncontrollable. Even though I removed my foot from the gas an tried braking, the transmission would not disengage for a few seconds causing me to almost lose control of the vehicle. Then the transmission just gave out and I was unable to pull off some where safe without issue. There were no warnings on the vehicle, no lights, nothing signaled an issue until after I was able to get the car to stop at the side of the road. The vehicle had to be towed due to not being able to drive at all. It has been inspected and I have been told the transmission just completely went out, possibly due to a leak in the linkage I was not aware of, and was not caught during my last inspection/ fluid change. Multiple items failed on the vehicle including the recently recalled back up camera/sensor issue that I was never advised about by the manufacturer.

7 Power Train problem of the 2019 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 02/10/2026

While driving on the highway the vehicle lost all power and it completely shutdown which was very scary. There was never any warning lights on dashboard and was told it was probably due to bad gasoline. Now the cruise control is shutting off an long with hesitation. Again no warning lights. Ford dealership said it was the spark plugs and coils, wanted to charge me $800! local mechanic ran a diagnostics confirmed it is the torque converter…alot of confusion with Ford diagnostic . This is a huge safety issue when driving in traffic, is very expensive and needs to be addressed.

10 Power Train problem of the 2019 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 02/08/2026

My car hesitates to shift, gear slips, shudders, and loss acceleration. I almost got into accident while merging on the highway because I lost acceleration due to gear slips. This car is dangerous.

11 Power Train problem of the 2019 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 02/06/2026

We are having transmission issues with our 2019 Ford Edge. Sudden shifting, very jerky. The opposite of a smooth performing transmission. You step on the gas, you hear the rpm's going but it doesn't want to go. Then all of the sudden it shifts while the rpm's are elevated and then jerks you. It seems like this is really bad for the transmission and making things worse. I don't know if this is necessarily a safety issue but it definitely would be if trying to merge onto a major highway, driving up a hill, or my wife got stranded somewhere that is not safe. This is my wife's car and I'm not sure what to do but in my opinion it not safe do these concerns.

12 Power Train problem of the 2020 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 02/02/2026

The transmission shutters and jerks.

13 Power Train problem of the 2020 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 01/30/2026

My 2020 Ford Edge suddenly started failing to catch the gear when driving, the rpms would rev but the car would not speed up, when it would finally catch, the car would jerk forward. No warning, no heads up, I just got in my car one day and the problem existed. I bought this car new, I am the sole owner and I routinely take it in for upkeep. It has 62,000 miles on it so just over the 60k warranty. I took the car to the local Ford dealership who informed me that the torque converter was going out. After looking the issue up online, its was apparent that this is a known issue very common the this year. This is a faulty part that has yet to be recalled. I asked the Ford dealership about this issue and they confirmed that it was a very common problem and they had 2 vehicles currently in their shop for the same problem. The quote to correct this issue is thousands of dollars.

14 Power Train problem of the 2019 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 01/28/2026

Torque converter needs replacement cost $4,000. 81000 miles on vehicle.

15 Power Train problem of the 2020 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 01/27/2026

The transmission has completely gone out on my 2020 Ford Edge the repair cost is $5500. I should not need a new transmission on a five year-old vehicle. There are several reports on this issue please advise.

16 Power Train problem of the 2023 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 01/26/2026

As my wife was driving down the interstate, the car began shuddering. She pulled off, and the shuddering became very bad at about 30 mph. The car flashed an error code which turned out to be the transmission. 2 Ford dealerships recommended a full transmission replacement for $10,800.

17 Power Train problem of the 2020 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 01/24/2026

Was taken to mechanic shop and then sent to dealership for shudder issue and sound come from rear. Changed rear differential fluid. Problem/sound persisted. Between 25-45 vehicle transmission is cutting out. Awd light, powertrain lights and brake lights are on and vehicle went in to limp mode at 55mph due to torque converter. Still currently in shop.

18 Power Train problem of the 2019 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 01/21/2026

Faulty transmission. Needs to be replaced after only 99,000 miles.

19 Power Train problem of the 2019 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 01/20/2026

This is a 2019 Ford Edge in great condition. I just purchased the vehicle with roughly 90000 miles on it. After roughly 2 weeks of driving, I noticed the vehicle struggles to get up to speed, and the gears shift roughly, especially after a cold start. Additionally, while driving, the gears would struggle to downshift, staying at a higher rpm than it should, such as being stuck at 4000 rpm while driving 30mph, and it would stay like this for about 1-2 minutes. Additionally, from time to time, the reverse gear will not engage at all, this is a major safety concern, god forbid I am somewhere I need to back out from and there is obstruction in the front, only god knows what trouble I would be in. There have been recalls for such cars. It is unfortunate that Ford has not opened an active recall for others with this issue. Please help, this car costs too much, and I fear for my wife and newborn's safety with transmission issues.

20 Power Train problem of the 2017 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 01/19/2026

While I was coming home from work driving up the mountain on highway 35 in fort payne alabama my vehicle stopped moving and I rolled to a stop on the side of the road. I had to call a rollback and my dad so he could come pick me up. He heard the noise and knew it was the flex plate torque converter issue that Ford is having.

21 Power Train problem of the 2019 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 01/18/2026

Torque converter shudder during acceleration per Ford TSB 21-2154. Removed and replaced torque converter with factory new to remedy issue. No check engine lights per TSB 21-2154.

22 Power Train problem of the 2020 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 01/17/2026

Transmission jumped out of gear when I turned the corner. 2nd Ford Edge I own that has done this. 1st car sitting in driveway waiting to get fixed.

23 Power Train problem of the 2019 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 01/15/2026

I have < 60k on this Edge. The transmission needed replacing (out of warranty barely). This is my wife’s vehicle. She’s been retired for three years and hardly drives it. This is not a fair wear and tear replacement. It jerked and bucked between 15 and 40 miles an hour. There is even a Ford service bulletin on it. That’s not elevated to a recall. I worked with the dealership and Ford gave me $2000 off the final bill, but they should’ve given me a new transmission for nothing and I would’ve paid for labor. That seemed fair. You would think that if there is a major service bulletin on it, then Ford would work with you or at least get extend some goodwill. I believe the Ford rep gave me $2000 off but they should’ve supplied the transmission because it was a quality control issue not a use issue. It’s very disappointing. I have two other vehicles that are 15 and 14 years old, so I take care of my vehicles. This one however, surprise me out of the blue with the bad transmission with less than 60,000 miles on it. I spoke with Ford and I worked with the dealership, but the best they could do was take a little off the bill. That was Ford’s doing not the dealerships. I thought Ford would take care of their people better as it’s my fourth Ford. Just disappointing as hell.

24 Power Train problem of the 2020 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 01/14/2026

I bought this car on 12/15 with 97k miles on it, and the second day it started jilting very badly when slightly acceleration. Now, I have noticed when I am at a stop light, it takes an additional 2-5 seconds to “jult” back up to speed while everyone else that was at the light is very much so ahead of me. There were a few times the car didn’t accelerate, and the person behind me almost hit me.

25 Power Train problem of the 2022 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 01/12/2026

I was driving to work, was approx 15 miles into trip when the wrench sign came on the dash, within the next 5 to 10 miles the vehicle starting shifting weird, by the next 5 miles as I pulled to stop light the vehicle had hard shifting down and would be hesitant to move when pushing on gas and within the next few miles continued to get worse and started smelling a burnt smell. Pulled into hospital parking lot and had a pwertrain failure on the Ford app. Edge titium 2022 with approx 91000 miles, mostly highway miles, towed to dealership, extended warranty only will cover certain amount of transmission which now leaves me either getting a used with only a 6 month guarantee or paying for a new one. Prior to this there had been no shifting or other indicators that the transmission had any problems.

26 Power Train problem of the 2019 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 01/10/2026

My car began losing power and jerking sensation when accelerating from a stop. I took the aamco transmissions and the vehicle was diagnosed with a torque converter shutter.

27 Power Train problem of the 2019 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 01/05/2026

Vehicle has 70000 miles , transmission started shuddering upon acceleration up to about 60 mph. Rpm’s jump even remaining at steady speed. Took it to the dealership and was told the entire transmission needed replaced.

28 Power Train problem of the 2015 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 01/03/2026

We were on a family road trip when issues popped up. Car was engine was buzzing and jumping in gears when started up and running rough. No check engines lights showed up. But we decided to drop it off at a dealership in grants pass oregon to get checkout as we didnt feel safe driving it home. They say it is the transmission going bad. We were hundreds of miles away from home and driving over the cascade pass when this was occurring. 1\3\26.

29 Power Train problem of the 2020 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 01/02/2026

I take my to the Ford dealership one day for oil change. The mechanics do a full multi inspection and find some issues that needed to be fixed, nothing about the transmission and transmission fluid being low or being dark. So I requested to do oil change and a recommended engine tune-up. I get my car back. However, about a week or two later I start noticing some shuddering and vibrations in the car when I hit the gas pedal. I take the car back to the dealership. I tell them how I had been there a few weeks back for oil change but after that I started noticing weird movements in the car. So they take the car to do an inspection on it. Then the mechanic/advisor guy says the vehicle needs a new transmission due to a failed torque converter. And he said the new transmission will cost $8700. And he charged me again for the inspection of the car. The vehicle is a 2020 Ford Edge with just 85400 miles. How does a 6 yr old car with less mileage blow a transmission that fast.

30 Power Train problem of the 2019 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 01/01/2026

While driving my vehicle on the first day of 2026 at a speed between 20 to 40 mph, I suddenly noticed that the car stopped responding to the gas pedal and would not accelerate. I immediately felt a loss of power. I pulled over to the side of the road, turned the engine off completely, and then restarted it. When I tried to shift into reverse, the car didn’t respond. I switched to drive, and it moved forward, but a message appeared on the dashboard stating: “powertrain malfunction / reduced power. ” shortly after, the check engine light came on. I checked the fault through Ford app and the message was “ the powertrain control system has detected one of the transmission shift solenoids is not responding as expected or is stuck in the on position. Some transmission gears may not being available resulting in delayed or harsh shifts into another gear” I left the car parked and had it towed to a local repair shop for diagnosis. The vehicle has not yet reached 57,000 miles. Thankfully, this issue occurred while I was driving at a low speed on a side street. I can’t imagine what could have happened if I had lost power on a highway—it could have led to a serious accident. The problem occurred suddenly, with no prior warning signs. The car is currently being inspected at the shop.

31 Power Train problem of the 2020 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 01/01/2026

Vehicle was purchased cpo ( certified pre owned ) with only 43k miles on the odometer on or about Dec , 7-10 2025. Since purchase of the vehicle it has been shifting, shuddering and tugging between 0-30mph. The vehicle shifts hard and doesn’t catch or change gears fast enough causing the engine to be caught in high rpm.

32 Power Train problem of the 2022 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 12/31/2025

To whom it may concern, I am writing to formally report an ongoing and concerning issue with my 2022 Ford Edge. My vehicle has begun hesitating when pressing the accelerator and jerking between 20 mph and 40 mph. Some days the issue is worse than others, but it has progressively made the vehicle feel unreliable and unsafe to drive. At times, it feels as though the vehicle may break down while in motion. After researching this issue, I have found that many other Ford Edge owners are experiencing the same symptoms, with the torque converter frequently identified as the cause. This appears to be a widespread and recurring problem rather than an isolated incident. Additionally, the vehicle will coast between approximately 2,000 and 5,000$. This behavior is not normal and raises serious concerns regarding drivability, safety, and long-term damage to the transmission. Given how common this issue appears to be among Ford Edge vehicles, I strongly believe this warrants further investigation and the establishment of a recall. Owners should not be financially responsible for a known and recurring manufacturing defect. I am requesting that Ford address this issue promptly and take responsibility for repairs associated with this problem. I appreciate your time and look forward to a resolution. Sincerely, [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

33 Power Train problem of the 2021 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 12/31/2025

8f35 transmission problem - shuddering and jerking - harsh shifting(delayed acceleration, slipping between gears) the car goes into drive when it’s in park. It goes into drive when it is also in reverse. Incredibly dangerous software glitch.

34 Power Train problem of the 2019 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 12/28/2025

I had to have the torque converter replaced about 3 months ago and now the transmission is slipping and not shifting into gear.

35 Power Train problem of the 2019 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 12/27/2025

While accelerating at points in gear shift change at the speeds of 20 mph, 30 mph, and 40 mph, the transmission bucks, which I found out the hard way during an ice storm, creates a un-smooth shift which leads you spinning the wheels while over accelerating to correct/lessen the bucking making the vehicle less safe and controllable. I work at a Ford dealership and know this issue is happening on Ford/Lincoln models sharing this same transmission with mileage anywhere from 25,000 - 80,000 +.
