6 Power Train problem of the 2020 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 10/18/2025

These transmissions fail prematurely. I have experienced major slippage on the highway, particularly when changing lanes in traffic or merging and needing to accelerate quickly. Most of the time it does, but occasionally the car just doesn't move with faster traffic quickly closing the gap. It is very scary when this happens, and there have been near misses! in another instance, the car would not go into reverse and actually tried to move forward while in reverse!!! I have found posts on forums where others have experienced this issue as well. Ford needs to be forced to issue a safety recall on these cars to have their transmissions repaired.

7 Power Train problem of the 2019 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 10/17/2025

Vehicle began shuddering and was inspected by don hinds Ford fishers (scott krouse). Was told that a new torque converter was needed by don hinds Ford fishers shuddering makes acceleration a challenge which puts everyone at risk of an accident, even death. No warning lights appeared, making this more dangerous.

8 Power Train problem of the 2019 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 10/14/2025

My vehicle began jumping when switching from drive to reverse. When I placed the car into reverse, it stalled and would not switch into reverse or neutral. The car stalled in the middle of a parking lot. The check engine light did not come on initially, and when it did, it did not remain on for very long. The car prompted a shift solenois b stuck on error (p0757:00-e8), as well as an inability to engage neutral error (p073d:00-6c) and transmission friction element error (p2701:00-6c). The valve body has been replaced, but the transmission is still promoting the same errors.

9 Power Train problem of the 2019 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 10/14/2025

Torque convertor failed at approximately 72,000 miles. Car began to stutter between 20 and 30 mph. This has been confirmed by the Ford dealership and is a known issue. There were know warning lamps or messages.

10 Power Train problem of the 2017 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 10/14/2025

I am trying to file a complaint about no parts for recalls. I have had three recalls on this vehicle and none of them has been rectified due to no parts available. I'm trying to find out why we cannot get parts to fix the transmission bell housing or the brake hoses on these recall notices? I also have a recall for the rear camera. I'm not sure if these recalls are just for my information, or if they ever intend to get parts? the transmission recall is from several years back, and now the recall quit showing up. I guess it magically took care of itself. Thank you.

11 Power Train problem of the 2018 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 10/10/2025

Original transmission failed at 83,000km. August 2023. Replacement Ford crated transmission and new cooler installed at Ford dealership for a cost of approx $11,000 canadian dollars failed 25 months later. Oct 2025. Ford would not honour 36 month advertised replacement parts warranty. Car was not abused and driven by retiree.

12 Power Train problem of the 2020 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 10/10/2025

I own a 2020 Ford Edge 2. 0 platinum awd (VIN: 2fmpk4k9xlba20055). At just over 50,000 miles, the vehicle developed a noticeable shutter in the front area, which was diagnosed as a faulty torque converter in the transmission. This required replacement at a reduced cost of $1,350. Shortly after, around 52,000 miles, the vehicle developed a loud grinding noise in the rear differential area. Initially, the differential lock motor was replaced for $675, but this did not fully resolve the issue. Ultimately, the entire rear differential had to be replaced at a reduced cost of approximately $2,750, including fluids and recalibration. Ford acknowledges that there are known issues with the awd systems in Ford Edge vehicles, yet refuses to take responsibility or offer assistance. It is unacceptable that a 5-year-old vehicle with only 52,000 miles would require thousands of dollars in repairs to remain safe and drivable. These failures pose a serious safety concern and financial burden, and I urge NHTSA to investigate this recurring issue.

13 Power Train problem of the 2017 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 10/10/2025

Slow acceleration when the awd system is needed, due to failure of rear differential. No replacement parts are available, suggesting high demand due to high failure rate, possibly due to poor design.

14 Power Train problem of the 2020 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 10/05/2025

Transmission slipping when accelerating, also shudder when between gears.

15 Power Train problem of the 2019 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 10/03/2025

My car started to stutter whenever I was at a red light and had to accelerate or when I was turning and had to coast and then accelerate. I thought it was my tires and had goodyear check my tires. . Then it continued. I thought it was a bad tank of gas so when I filled up again, it was still happening. I brought it into the dealership on Friday, October 3rd. It has been at the dealership ever since. They told me that I need a new torque converter bed. Unfortunately, my extended warranty expired on September 12, 2025. I was driving around with it with the symptoms thinking it was other things. I brought it in when it got worse. It has been at the dealership for a whole week. I went online to check the whole situation out and found out that Ford is very aware of this design problem. It’s the same problem that they’ve been aware of for years. It’s a design flaw in this model car. They are no longer making it. This is the reason why. They are telling me it’s gonna cost anything from $7100-$8500. I went online and found a lot of other people that have had the same issue and they have paid $1600.

16 Power Train problem of the 2015 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 10/03/2025

The contact owned a 2015 Ford Edge. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign numbers: 22v413000 (power train), 25v544000 (service brakes, hydraulic), and 25v572000 (back over prevention), and would like to be removed from the recall distribution list. The local dealer and manufacturer were not contacted.

17 Power Train problem of the 2020 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 10/01/2025

With no warning signs, I put my 2020 Ford Edge into drive, but it didn't move; so, I put it into reverse and it wouldn't move. After a minute, I was able to drive it. The next day, I was able to drive it ~1/4 mile when this sandy, gritty noise happened and the wrench light came up on the dashboard. I pulled over, then the check engine light came on, so I turned off the car. I turned it back on, and when I put it in drive, it didn't move, so I put it in reverse and it didn't move. I had the car towed to a Ford dealer, who after diagnosis, told me the transmission needed to be repaired @ $8600. My car had 136,000 miles on it when this happened; I always maintained it, including a tune up, with full fluid flush, per the recommended maintenance @ 100,000 miles. I was told by the mechanic that the planetary broke up and went through the entire system, ruining it.

18 Power Train problem of the 2018 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 09/29/2025

The problem began in early August 2025 when the check engine light came on and the vehicle misfired. A Ford mobile technician inspected it before 8/23/25, confirmed diagnostic code p0303 (cylinder 3 misfire), but said it was likely just a bad ignition coil. Based on that, I went to midas on 8/23/25 for a tune-up and coil check. On 9/29/25, the check engine light returned and for the first time the coolant over-temperature warning illuminated. Midas confirmed coolant intrusion into cylinder 3: borescope and pressure test showed leakage, leak-down test failed with air entering the coolant reservoir, and visible coolant loss was present. At 80,445 miles, the engine was deemed unsafe and required full replacement. Hawk Ford confirmed no warranty extensions or programs applied. The repair cost was $10,500 out of pocket. This defect matches Ford TSB 19-2172, is widely reported in ecoboost engines, and creates a serious safety risk since the vehicle misfires, overheats, and may stall while driving.

19 Power Train problem of the 2020 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 09/26/2025

Transmission failure, this is a know issue, that Ford wont claim as an issue.

20 Power Train problem of the 2021 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 09/25/2025

The transmission failed while driving down the road. The vehicle jumped gears while traveling at approximately 30 miles per hour. My husband was luckily able to maneuver it to a safe location, but almost wrecked in the process of it jumping gears while we were accelerating with the flow of traffic. The problem has been confirmed by the Ford dealer- the transmission failed and has grinded up clutch parts all in it. There were no prior warnings that anything was failing, but we did notice a shudder that day when we would accelerate to around 30-35 mph. Upon research afterwards, we learned that there is a TSB for that exact 8f35 transmission and that Ford refuses to recall the known problem in the 2019 - 2021 Ford Edge. I was so scared for the safety of my family with my 6 year old child in the back seat. A 4 year old vehicle should not need a new transmission. And Ford should not be putting people in danger for a known problem.

21 Power Train problem of the 2019 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 09/24/2025

Complete transmission failure without a known cause. 2019 with just over 120,000 miles but I feel like the transmission should have held up for much longer and it is not the first time I had to have work done. A few years prior, I'd taken it in for a transmission service where they needed to drain and flush the system as well as work on the programming.

22 Power Train problem of the 2021 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 09/22/2025

The vehicle hesitates when engaging accelerator;shifting roughly, stuttering ,mostly under 50 mph.

23 Power Train problem of the 2020 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 09/18/2025

Transmission issuse, jerking and shuttering. Not going in reverse and then not going in park. Transmission needs replaced now.

24 Power Train problem of the 2016 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 09/16/2025

The coolant is leaking into the engine area. Causing repeated coil failures and misfire and I assume damage to engine. I believe engine block needs to repaired or replaced. Also, during both dry and especially slippery/wet conditions. . . My vehicle is veering to both sides on its own while driving . My hands are on wheel going straight and it just drifts, slips and slides. Afraid I'm going to crash. No warning lights. Might be esc and or abs systems. It seems these are known issues for this year make and model but these recalls and warnings for some reason are not attached to my VIN. I need them attached to my VIN so that I can take to Ford dealership for repair before these system failures kill me.

25 Power Train problem of the 2018 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 09/16/2025

My 2018 Ford Edge (VIN [xxx] ) suffered a premature transmission failure at 105,415 miles. Just 389 miles earlier, Ford performed customer satisfaction program 22n12 (flexplate/torque converter/pump replacement), for which I paid $1,669 as my 50% share. Less than two months later, the same dealer diagnosed the transmission as failed due to the forward clutch being stuck and quoted $6,955 for replacement. Ford’s maintenance schedule does not require transmission service until 150,000 miles, so this failure is premature and unreasonable. A transmission failure at highway speed could cause sudden loss of power, greatly increasing the risk of a crash. This issue appears related to Ford’s known flexplate defect (csp 22n12) and raises concern of broader transmission reliability/safety problems in affected vehicles. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

26 Power Train problem of the 2019 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 09/15/2025

Problem noticed when vehicle was shaking/jolting during acceleration and shifting inconsistently. The 2019 Edge was taken to a trusted independent service center for diagnostics. They found the transmission fluid is full of metal pieces. No warning lamps/messages.

27 Power Train problem of the 2021 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 09/11/2025

Vehicle is jolting/jerking when switching gears, stalls out. When put into park mode it starts to reverse and says brake is on and does not release from brake resulting in not being able to turn vehicle off.

28 Power Train problem of the 2020 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 09/10/2025

Vehicle shutters @ speeds between 30 to 40mph. Had to replace transmission @ 93k miles.

29 Power Train problem of the 2018 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 09/08/2025

The car has been having a chemical smell when it starts. I recently was driving from san antonio, texas to austin, texas and received a warning that my car was overheating. The warning went off immediately and I continued driving it. A few days later, I got an oil change and was told that I had no coolant in the vehicle. They filled the coolant for me. I continued driving the car. This week, the car was shaking pretty violently when I turned on the ignition. I proceeded to drive it and it drove normally. The following day, a check engine light came on. I took it in to see a mechanic that day and they confirmed that I had a coolant intrusion problem caused by the 2. 0l eco boost engine which is defective and allows coolant to escape into the engine injectors. Ford is not taking any responsibility for this and says that it is not under warranty so there's no programs they can offer me. Ford should issue a recall of this defective product to avoid injuries or accidents.

30 Power Train problem of the 2020 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 09/08/2025

In February 2025 a dash light came on when the vehicle was studdering at 20-40 mph. Firestone said the code was a prv, so they replaced it (approx $450), had 80k miles. Six months later it's doing the same thing and firestone said it has no codes and it could be alot of things but suspects maybe fuel pump or torque converter as they have seen it alot on the 2020 Edge. A week later, I took to another mechanic when a different noise was coming during turns, and they said it was the rear differential for sure and the studdering could be several things. Thye replaced the real differential, $2500, and I replaced the plugs/egition coils which they suggested could be causing it. They also mentioned the torque converter as being a big issue in premature failing for the 2020 Edge. The new real differential stopped the turning grind, and the new plugs/coils may be making it run a little better, but the studder is still here. A 90k mile vehicle should not be having these major safety issues! torque converter, says transmission to me, so please investigate. I called a Ford dealer because I bought the platinum extra warranty and it was expired. I asked about trade in and they said $6500 because they know the vehicle is a lemon--I still owe $23k!! feeling stuck and worried about driving on the interstate or at speed anywhere too far from home as it could lock up and create an accident. I feel the industry knows about these failures and Ford does too and should do something.

31 Power Train problem of the 2016 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 09/07/2025

This is a follow-up to my previous NHTSA complaint ?11689215. ?regarding the flexplate failure on my 2016 Ford Edge (VIN: [xxx] ). This is a follow-up to my previous NHTSA complaint regarding the flexplate failure on my 2016 Ford Edge (VIN [xxx] ). Ford opened case xxx but closed it without any resolution, even though my vehicle remains undrivable. A new case cxh-xxx 1 was later created under customer satisfaction program 22n12 for the same defect. My car is still at autonation Ford bellevue (wa); the dealer confirms no repair authorization or contact from Ford corporate. This defect causes a rattling noise, flexplate cracking, and sudden loss of power while driving—a clear safety hazard. Ford continues to deny repair based on mileage limits in the csp, although this is a known safety-related defect. I am requesting NHTSA to review Ford’s handling of csp 22n12 and require Ford to treat this as a full safety recall without mileage restrictions. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

32 Power Train problem of the 2019 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 09/05/2025

The vehicle started “bucking” during acceleration 2weeks ago. I took it to a mechanic and diagnostic tool did not show any codes for the engine. The rec was have a transmission diagnostic done so I took it to a transmission shop. The diagnostic shows a faulty torque converter which had already allowed enough debris to flow into and ruin the transmission. The rec is a new transmission at the cost of $11,000 to replace. I do know there was a TSB 25-2154 issued by Ford in may 2025 and there is a current class action suit/investigation. This is a faulty product which could potentially cause harm/accidents and it seems Ford is not adequately addressing it.

33 Power Train problem of the 2019 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 09/05/2025

All lights came on randomly Ford house said it was the torque converter.

34 Power Train problem of the 2020 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 09/02/2025

10/2022 2yrs owning and around 50,000 miles the all wheel drive went out due to a sensor thats not protected from the elements and of course not covered under the warranty and $900. 00 dollars later they install a new one that wasn't updated in order to prevent this from happening again. 9/2/2025 3yrs later and 88,000 miles now the torque converter is going out which I was told by the Ford technician that they have been seeing this alot. Of course my warranty is gone even the extended one that I purchased when I purchased this car new. So to fix this manufacturer's issue will now cost me $4,000 dollars to fix. But I was told the torque converter has been updated so I shouldn't have this issue again. So they know this is a problem which I assume is the reason for the updated converter so why isn't this a recall.

35 Power Train problem of the 2020 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 09/01/2025

Gear change struggles and shudders during 2nd to 4th gear (18-39 mph) when pressing the gas pedal. Driving in sport mode does help but not for long. This problem disappears when cruise control is activated. Went to workshop and had to replace the torque converter. Several owners report similar problems. I bought this car with a mileage of 103,000 miles and it seems to already have some jerking during gear changes but not as bad. It got worse around 120,000 miles. The safety was not of a concern, but the driving dynamics was concerning since the whole vehicle was shaking during gear changes. I checked the NHTSA website and it this vehicle did not have any recalls so far. Another slightly minor but inconvenient issue is the tpms sensor malfunction. Most of the time the sensors seem to be working perfectly but every time I drive above 50 mph for at least half an hour the dashboard shows tpms sensor malfunctioning. After I turned off the engine for at least 15 to 30 minutes and I turn on the engine again. The problem seems to disappear temporarily.
