My wife and I own a 2015 Ford Edge with approximately 65k miles. It is a daily driver for my wife. The vehicle started making a bad rattling noise a couple days ago. We already had an appt. For an oil change at the local Ford dealership so I told her not to drive it and to have them check it out when she took it in. Upon arrival to the Ford dealership, the technician popped the hood, listened for a moment and replied, "I'm 99. 9% sure I know that noise". He further explained they would need to get a bore scope and look at the flex plate as these vehicles have had and are having issues with the flex plates cracking/breaking. They kept the vehicle most of the day and called back later that evening stating that's what it was and they needed to pull the transmission to determine how much damage was done. The next day the dealership called back stating it has to has a new engine due to flex plate failure, again. The cost of the repairs are estimated to be $5600 as it is out of warranty. The Ford dealership also stated this will be the 3rd flex plate that this vehicle will have had: repaired in 2017, repaired in 2018 and now 2020. So this will be the 4th flex plate this vehicle has seen in 5 years counting the original one. My wife originally heard the noise when she started it at work to go pick up our toddler from day care. It is very loud at idle, sort of sounds like a diesel engine. I'm very thankful (and according to the Ford dealership) this did not happen on the highway as she could have lost all power to the vehicle causing an accident.

Right after I purchased this vehicle, I noticed that it had a bad jerk, and chugging in the transmission. With the overdrive "off", it keeps the rpm's above 2000, and prevents it from chugging and jerking in the transmission. With the overdrive on it gears down extremely low after going down to 2000 rpm's, and losses a lot of power. When pressing down the gas pedal, it chugs and jerks severely. I have to let off the gas and then reapply the gas to stop it from jerking. Also, the power steering pops and makes noises. I got in the car today and had no brake power at all. Then had no brakes unless I pushed the brake pedal down with extreme force. And it was still extremely hard to stop my vehicle. Upon searching online, I am finding that these are very common issues with the 2008 Ford Edge vehicles. There should be some type of recall on this model of Ford Edge when this is a very common problem, in my opinion. I did a search for my VIN number and it shows "no" recalls for my vehicle. I understand it'd not a new vehicle, but the amount of issues with this vehicle is ridiculous. Please help!!!.

Tl- the contact owns a 2019 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while the transmission was in the neutral tow position and being towed by a motor home a loud squilling noise was heard after driving from a stationary position. Upon inspection it was discovered that the transmission had erroneously switch from the neutral tow position to the park position. The contact indicated that the failure had suddenly occurred after driving approximately 25 miles with the transmission in the neutral tow position. No one was present inside the vehicle at the time of the failure. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer oc welsh Ford(4920 independence blvd hwy 278 hardeeville SC) but the cause of the failure was not yet determined. The manufacturer (cas-25620644) was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 1,132. Jft.

Vehicle has 54,096 miles on it. Power transfer unit failure and transmission failure. Noticed a noise, took it in for repair before it got worse. This seems to be a known and common issue. Very expensive repair with low miles.

I was exiting the freeway, slowing down on the ramp, and I lost complete loss of acceleration as I came to a stop at the light. Up on green signal, even with pushing of the gas pedal, my car did not accelerate. And in a few seconds, the transmission engaged violently with a huge noise and led to sudden acceleration, followed by loss of acceleration again. I tried pushing the pedal one more time but realized that there was no acceleration. I then stopped and got my vehicle towed to a Ford dealership and their finding is that the transmission needs to be replaced completely.

While driving vehicle transmission skipped a couple of times. After stopping the transmission made a whining noise. When I moved forward it was very slow to move and would not accelerate properly. Arriving home I put the vehicle in reverse and it made a clunking noise. It is currently at the transmission shop for evaluation.
My brakes make a hissing noise when I press down. . I have to press all the way down to get it to stop. This is very dangerous. Also, my back tail lite has had to be replaced 2 times because the socket got hot. Also, my car jumps sometimes when pressing on the gas(transmission issue?) I have also had the gas tank replaced(due to a recall).
The contact owns a 2007 Ford Edge. The contact stated that the transmission failed while driving approximately 45 mph. The vehicle emitted a loud noise under the hood and the wringer and air bag warning indicators illuminated. The contact was able to coast the vehicle onto the road shoulder. The vehicle was restarted and returned to normal. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 116,000.
2013 Ford Edge limited awd 2 weeks before thanksgiving. . The vehicle was parked in our garage a few minutes after my wife got home from a 16 mile round trip to town. I heard a high pitch noise from the engine, performed a visual inspection and saw no problems. Assumed it was normal and that it would turn off on its own. Most new vehicles have a function to turn off any device before it drains the battery. The next day we went to start the vehicle and it was completely dead. Jumped it and my wife took to work. Worked fine the rest of the day. She got home and I heard the noise again. Checked it with battery tester and had a load on the vehicle and battery was already down to 75%. Took to local mechanic and he diagnosed as mechanism in transmission staying on and recommended dealer repair. Dealer misdiagnosed it as aftermarket autostart 2 times and charged me to replace the battery the second time. Finally on the 4th trip to the dealer, the malfunction happened while they had the vehicle. Dealer replaced mechanism in transmission, this did not solve problem. Dealer ordered drive train computer(waited over a month for part), this has not fixed the problem. It is now the first week of February(almost 3mnths later) and the vehicle is still at the dealer and they cannot find what is wrong with it. Someone please help!!!!!!!!!.

Part of the dashboard will madly change on its own going though the different options like it's stuck; the navigation display and dash board when starting the car will not always light up like it used to do. There is a delay at times. The ambiant lighting nomatter how many times I choose pink it always defaults back to blue on its own. My car has begun to make a horrible noise under the carriage, we suspect it is a transmission issue. It feels like the vehicle struggles to move forward. Just the other evening after leaving work, my interior overhead lights would not go off. Nomatter how many times I tried to turn them off. The electrical issue with the dash board began a while back and the noise just recently. The mileage on my car is 36,000 more or less. This should not be happening to our car. Well taken care of, I drive it to work and back. The car just turned in August 2 years. I have an appointment at the dealership this coming Tuesday. I believe my car is still under the power train warranty, I pray that it is. Just today, my vehicle would not lock as well. I will update as soon as I take it to the service dept.
Tl-the contact owns a 2007 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the tire pressure illuminates and the vehicle decrease in speed. The contact observed an abnormal noise from the transmission hear while switching gears. The contact also stated that the brake pedal was being depressed but the brakes became in operable. The vehicle was taken to a independent mechanic where it was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure happened intermittently. The manufacturer was not aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 111,000. Ec.
While driving down van born road (heavy traffic) the speedometer stopped and went to 0 mph, the odometer read dashes, the wrench illuminated in the corner, and the airbag warning sign appeared. The rpm's in my vehicle began to climb higher as well and the car speedometer did not indicate any mph and began to decrease, after slowing down at ta red light I noticed my car would barely move and it slowly crept until I got home 1/2 mile from when I noticed the problem start. As soon as I parked other warning lights began flashing such as the tire pressure sign. I turned the car off and then back on and I experienced a hard start, which was loud, and when I went to change gears the car jerked violently as if the motor was jumping. When placing in reverse gear the jerk was even more violent, loud noise as if the engine was dropping out or I was being rear ended. I turned the car off and back on to see if the warning signals were still illuninated and they reset. When trying to see if the car would move I had to push the gas pedal almost all the way to the floor before the car would even move a little bit and again the rpm's revved really high. I ended up calling a tow truck this morning 8/20/14 and they stated that the transmission is trying to skip first gear and go directly to second gear; my car is currently in the shop. Prior to this incident I experienced occasional jerking while driving and the car was switching gears. It was very scary being a female and not knowing much about mechanics. Only 49,000 miles.
Driving down the highway at night at approx. 70 mph. All the warning lights came on in the dash. The speedo and odometer stopped working. No noise or vibrations noted. Pulled off exit and stopped at stop sign. Car would not move after pressing accelerator. Rpms very high and car began to roll forward. Eventually got up to 20mph. Stopped in parking lot. Shut car off for a few minutes. Restarted car and put into reverse. Loud bang and shudder. Felt like transmission was going to explode. Backed up, put car in drive, same violent reaction from transmission. Drove to destination and parked overnight. Next morning all was fine. Transmission appeared to function normally and all dash instrumentation was working. Occurred in summer of 2014.
Tl-the contact owns a 2014 Ford Edge. The contact stated that the engine stalled numerous while idling and with the air conditioning on and the transmission also made a loud clocking noise. The wrench light illuminated while the failure occurred. The vehicle was taken to the dealer several times the main computer was reprogrammed however the failure was not corrected. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 3,500. Li.

In may, I was traveling at 55 miles an hours, when my car lurched forward and all the dashboard lights came on. The speedometer stopped showing my speed, the rpm's maxed out, lost all low gears, and the accelerator was not responding properly. I went and had the transmission looked at and the oil changed, engine flushed, etc. Several weeks later I had the same problem. After a short time the car started responding properly again. On 11/14/2014, I was travelling at 60 mph and experienced the same thing for the 3rd time. Once I got to a safe location I pulled over. When I put the car in park it made a terrible noise. I called roadside assistance to tow the car to the dealership. The dealership has said it is the transmission but have yet to determine the exact problem. I do not feel the power train of this vehicle is safe! other problems that have occurred since owning the vehicle: lunging at red lights when brakes are engaged (sometimes feels like I have been rear ended), electrical running to rear lights is melted, excessive amount of corrosion on the battery cables, rear wheels/brakes growling causing excessive wear on brakes (brakes went out coming to a stop sign one day), radiator fan problems, failure of the coolant fan 2 times and was replaced, tubing for windshield spray eroded.
Popping noise made from front driver side tires when turning left, at gear change transmission jerks, powertrain awd malfunction light came on , truck would not accelerate into 2nd gear loud grinding noise made, censor had to be replaced, popping noise still exist in left front tire.
My 2008 Ford Edge was brought to the dealership after hearing a "clunking" noise and smelling exhaust coming from the the under carriage. The dealership diagnosed ". . . Replace ptu assy fluid, had blown out vent. . . ". The entire powertrain (583984) was replaced. This was the 2nd incident in 2 months. Prior to this event I brought it to the dealership after experiencing "slipping" transmission. While coming to a stop, the transmission went into neutral. I left the car for several hours, then re-started and it ran fine. The dealership could not verify any problems.
Loss of power, engine racing when gas applied, tacometer non responsive, sudden lunging of power. Loud clunking like being rear ended. Limped home, when I turned the car off then restarted, put it in reverse and a loud slamming noise like the clunking sound earlier and feeling of being rear ended. Towed to dealership, over 2 weeks later (less than 2 months out of warranty and only 971 miles out of the 60,000 mile warrenty) Ford dealer told me that Ford would not cover any of the cost and the $4,012. 69 transmission repair cost was on me. Hundreds of posts on the internet about this issue, including Ford TSB - NHTSA: action number: 10039053 service bulletin number: 312104. But no help from Ford.
Approached a stop light on a hill. Light turned green. Did not have to come to a complete stop and when I accelerated the transmission jerked and made a loud noise. This has happened several times in my commutes. Transmission fluid level is within normal range.
My 2007 Ford Edge had been having what people refer to as a slipped transmission. At first it would not accelerate, and it would only go in reverse not forward. I turned it off and on twice and then it seemed to operate normally. I took it into the dealership the next day and I was first told there was no issue, then it happened again, this time it would also do a violent jerk as if I'd been rear-ended. The service dept replaced the computer chip (not sure which one but something to do with the transmission). A couple of weeks later it again failed to accelerate but this time it would not restart without a loud grinding noise. After towing it to the dealership, the transmission was completely replaced. However it has since started doing the exact same thing, bumping as if the car had been rear-ended as the car is in motion, in various circumstances. There are numerous complaints about the same issue on different forums. . Read more...
I bought my Edge, used last year and I love it. Although, every now and then while driving the transmission makes a huge bang noise. Its scary!!! I hope that Ford will take care of this. It seems there are other complaints regarding the same problem.
My Ford Edge has jerked and jumped a few times but was told that nothing was wrong with it. Well on Friday June 01, 2012 I tried to put car into gear and it did not want to go, it started jerking and jerking. Then it started going, lights started going off such as the wrench, tire pressure, and then odomoter dropped to zero and it said data odomoter error. The next day I turned the car on and was making a loud whining noise. I took the car to gulf coast Ford in angleton, texas on Saturday June 02, 2012 and they called my husband Wednesday June 06th and told him that they had to take the transmission apart. Said they had three cars last week with the same problem and they currently had one with same problem right next to mine and they said they are not sure why this is happening. Ford has a serious problem with this car and it needs to be fixed. My car is at 93,500 miles and the transmission should not be going out already. I wish they would recall this car completely. I am ready to get rid of it.
The ptu (power take off unit) on my awd Ford Edge is leaking and needs to be replaced- per the dealership- it smells and the transmission clunks/ makes noise. These are all known issues to Ford and they refuse to fix the issues. The foam seal between my windshield and dash board is coming out of the gap and causing visibility issues as it is distracting- another Ford known issue with multiple TSB's and they refuse to help without me paying out of pocket for their issues.
