1 Transmission Not Engage problem of the 2020 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 12/28/2020

Transmission gear disengage on reverse and some disengagement while driving. My vehicle is been more than a month on service and Ford sent some parts to be replace but the problem still. Why they don't send a new transmission and problem solved?.

3 Transmission Not Engage problem of the 2013 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 08/23/2019

Driving on county road, my vehicle suddenly stopped. Wrench symbol lit up on dash. The gas pedal had no effect but engine remained running. Towed to a goodyear service station: they said they could not find a problem and the sensors showed no indication of a problem. On the way home it did the same thing. Turning the car off and removing the key, car starts back up. Took car to Ford dealer. They too said they could not duplicate the problem. And that when I turn the engine off it clears the computer. They returned the car but charged $140. Same problem occurred two days later. Called Ford from side of the road. They said their transmission guy was off until Tuesday (this was Friday afternoon). Drove about 8 miles and it happened again. It seems like the transmission disengages. I have read that many Ford Edge's have a problem with the etb but as far as I know there has been no recall.

4 Transmission Not Engage problem of the 2009 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 01/13/2019

I was slowly driving through a neighborhood when I could no longer accelerate when my vehicle was in drive. I eventually came to a stop. The transmission was not engaging. I kept trying to accelerate but I was unable to go anywhere. I put the car in park, then back to drive and it still did not work. I then resorted to turning off the car off and back on. At that point the vehicle did operate as usual. Since it happened I have read countless reports of this same issue in this vehicle with many complaints. This is a potentially deadly error from Ford and their transmissions in this vehicle. I believe it is related to the sensors on the transmission. A recall needs to be issued immediately before someone gets killed in an accident because their car comes to a total stop on a busy interstate. Ford knows about the problem and has not addressed it.

5 Transmission Not Engage problem of the 2013 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 10/05/2018

The transmission will disengage and you have 0 power. This has happened 6 times. Sometimes it will be at 50mph and sometimes it will be from a stop which is extremely dangerous because you cannot accelerate. You have to pull over, shift to park or neutral, turn off the car, then restart the car and it works again. If this happened while turning left at a busy light and the car lost power it could be catastrophic.

6 Transmission Not Engage problem of the 2008 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 04/20/2018

When first started up it some times turns off with no warning. Then a constant ticking sound then intermittently when reversing the car kicks back as if transmission is not engaging and has loss of acceleration when merging onto freeway has hesitation and almost got into a wreck a driving rpm go up and down eraticly and acceleration is slugish. Brakes are constanly quelling and they dont need replaced I just bought this car 2months ago from used car lot bought extended warranty for 1800. 00 but does not take effect for 90 days but might not be able to claim since this is a problem before coverage was in effect havent even made my first paynent I will have them for 2yrs car has 150008 miles.

7 Transmission Not Engage problem of the 2008 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 02/06/2018

Speedometer and tachometer at random speeds quits working , low tire pressure light, wrench light, airbag light, check engine light. Constant loud clunking sound when changing gears. The car kicks back as if transmission is not engaging and has loss of acceleration and wheels roll and when red light turns green, the car takes time to accelerate and wheels start rolling and make a loud sound. I pull over the vehicle on the side of the road every time and turn it off, then turn the vehicle on again so it can go back to normal. Usually happens on both city streets or highway at a random speed between 45 mph and 60 mph. 114,000 miles. I have been having this issue since I bought the vehicle on Feb, 2018 and took it to multiple mechanics and all of them claimed it's either a speed sensor issue/ transmission failure/ electrical system.

8 Transmission Not Engage problem of the 2008 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 05/25/2017

While regular driving or when in the process of engaging a stop sign the car engine disengages from the transmission and loose any connection between the engine and transmission. If one steps on the gas the transmission makes a hollowing noise and fails to move, the engine rpm increase with pressing the gas padel but the transmission does not engage as if one is low on transmission fluid. In order for the car to engage into motion one has to shut down the engine complete and then restart the car where after it just run s fine as if nothing happened. We have encountered this situation three times this year. The car has around 58600 miles on it. This is a very dangerous situation to be in specially of one is encouraging and intersection etc and is very scary to drive at times. . . Thank you. We called the Ford dealer and they told us they have never heard any thing like this. . . This all happened on city streets and while the car was moving or when coming to a stop sign.

9 Transmission Not Engage problem of the 2008 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 02/19/2016

I have a 2008 Ford Edge limited. I noticed that when I would get stuck in stop and go traffic the car would not shift from first to second gear. I would have to pull over put it in park and then try to go. This has happened quite a few times. My most recent incident was pulling into a parking garage and needing to back up. When I put the car in reverse it would not engage. It took several times moving from neutral to reverse for it to finally catch with a hard jerk.

10 Transmission Not Engage problem of the 2013 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 10/21/2015

The contact owns a 2013 Ford Edge. While driving approximately 70 mph, the vehicle hesitated and made a loud banging noise. The contact stated that the gear did not feel properly engaged. When the vehicle was in drive, it started to roll backwards. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer for a week, but the failure was unable to be duplicated. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that nothing could be done. The failure was not remedied. The failure mileage was approximately 26,000.

11 Transmission Not Engage problem of the 2011 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 12/16/2014

Coming out of an underground parking garage and the vehicle suddenly stopped and I received an orange wrench error message stating awd off. The vehicle would not engage in a drivable gear. I had to drift to a spot where I could be out of the line of traffic, at which time I stopped the vehicle/brakedp; shifted into park, and turned off the ignition. Upon re-starting the vehicle, it appeared to resolve. Upon doing research, I recently took the vehicle to the Ford service dept and they reset the transmission computer as I had been experiencing slips or rough starts when driving/accelerating over the last 2-3 months. The incident described above occurred approximately 2. 5 weeks after that service visit.

12 Transmission Not Engage problem of the 2008 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 11/16/2013

The car seems to run fine in town. If it is driven about 20 miles or so on the highway, it develops the following drive train problem. When the vehicle slows or comes to a stop and the driver then accelerates, such as when driving in stop-and-go traffic on the freeway or leaving a stop light, it seems like the transmission and engine quit talking to each other and they come uncoupled during shifting. Since the gas pedal is depressed for accelerating, during the shift, the engine rpm revs up to perhaps 3000 and then the transmission abruptly shifts resulting in a heavy shock to the drive line. It does this between each gear during acceleration upshifting. If the vehicle is stopped and the transmission is shifted into reverse, there is a delay and then it shifts into reverse resulting in a similar heavy shock. I had several occurrences where I came off the freeway and stopped at the light and upon attempting to get going again, the engine was running and would rev up but the transmission was not engaged. I shifted into park and back into drive and the vehicle finally got going again with the same symptoms noted above. It seems to react the same regardless of whether the od is engaged or disengaged. We took the vehicle to one of the local Ford stores several weeks ago and they said they could not recreate the symptoms. I took it to a different service department perhaps a month later and they could not find a real problem but said all the codes were fine. They deleted the adaptive transmission files and uploaded new files and the problem was fixed even though they were not sure what they did to fix it. A lengthy drive a day later went well, no problems. But on the way into work in on April 3rd the same problems are back. It's back in the shop again April 7th. Not sure whats next. Maybe the factory can offer advice? thanks.

13 Transmission Not Engage problem of the 2008 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 04/15/2012

The transmission will occasionally fail to engage properly when accelerating from a stop. The vehicle will initially move forward but then will fail to accelerate as the engine continues to increase rpm. This has occurred multiple times. The first maintenance performed at Ford was to rebuild the transmission. After the repair there were no problems for almost 4 months and then the transmission problem recurred. This last time it occurred almost caused an horrific accident. As the auto accelerated from a side street to make a left hand turn onto a four lane highway, the transmission failed to accelerate after its initial acceleration and stopped in the middle of oncoming traffic. A t-bone accident was barely avoided. The second Ford repair was to replace a 'sensor' and was just picked up today from Ford.

14 Transmission Not Engage problem of the 2010 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 06/09/2011

We purchased a 2010 Ford Edge because of the safety tests of these vehicles. It has since developed a delay in take off about twice per month. It is almost like the transmission is not engaged, then violently engages and lurches the vehicle forward. Last month a car had to slam it's brakes to avoid hitting my wife and children as the car delayed, and before my wife could get on the brake, it engaged and lurched the car into traffic. This is a huge safety concern, one that I would figure Ford would take very seriously since it is documented, however they refuse to admit somethign is wrong. Of course it has not been duplicated after many days in ths shop, but it just happened again 2 hours ago. The dealership of both purchase and refusal to fix the problem is mclarty auto mall in texarkana texas.

15 Transmission Not Engage problem of the 2008 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 01/21/2009

Ongoing transmission issues since purchased new. Been to repair for more than 17 days and issues still remain unresolved. Took car in for regular scheduled oil changes and repairs. At approximately 30,000 miles the camphasers ( Ford admitted wrong camphasers had been installed) were replaced. Coolant problem discovered as well when vehicle engine was removed. Odd odor coming from heater, when vehicle returned after camphaser and coolant issue did not resolve situation, and vehicle returned to galpin Ford service, was told that axle and bearing were broken and that the steering wheel was not in proper position. I am deeply concerned for other Ford Edge owners as well as members of the public who may be affected by vehicle that does not properly engage and appears to stall before moving forward. . . . This is an enormously serious issue, that should not be ignored. Reading the prior complaints, tells me this is not a new problem, and that consumers and Ford are aware of the transmissions issues. Please assist.
