1 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2014 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 07/02/2025

7/2/25-I was driving about 20 miles per hour when suddenly my car went into a type of limp/idle mode. It shut the car down to an idle, a wrench light came on my dash then the car started to shake. I coasted into a driveway and turned the car off. I turned it back on after 5min and it was fine. 7/16/25-I was driving about 30mph and all of a sudden my car goes into this idle mode again. I got the car to coast over into a turning lane. It lost power down to an idle, wrench came up on dash again then the car started to shake. I turned the car off and back on and it was fine. I’m very scared to drive my car bc I don’t know when this will happen again. It could be when I’m turning in front of another vehicle, driving on the expressway or just normal streets or if someone was behind me and wasn’t able to react appropriately bc my car goes into this idle mode so fast that I don’t know how to keep from having an accident myself. 7/17/25-I took it to a machanic and they hooked it to a computer but nothing showed up as being wrong. They drove it several times but they couldn’t get it to do what I’m explaining what it does. After researching the issue, I believe it may be my electric throttle body etb that Ford acknowledged was an issue and had a customer satisfaction program cps (csp 13n03) from Ford for etb replacement on certain 2009-2013 ,. * jels, sometimes extended into the early 2014 model. * electronic throttle body failure * ??Ford etbs from this era are notoriously bad. * ??carbon buildup, worn internal sensors, or electronic glitches cause the throttle to stick or respond erratically. * ??the pcm detects an unsafe throttle position ? activates fail-safe mode ? wrench light + jerking + no throttle. * ??you restart the car, and the etb re-initializes until it fails again.

2 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2019 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 06/10/2025

Transmission has had the lumpy shifting issue at lower speeds/gears since we bought it used from a local Ford dealer. This appears to be a common problem if the reports in various internet forums is to be believed. Pcm was upgraded, didn't help. Now the lumpiness has increased to bucking, making the car close to undriveable. In addition when accelerating hard there is a considerable delay in actual increased movement, almost caused a wreck at one point.

3 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2019 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 03/27/2025

2019 Ford Edge titanium awd, 91k miles. 8f35 transmission is severely jerking and shuddering at lower speeds around 20-35 mph. This causes erratic driving and lack of control when accelerating up to speed, especially on the highway. Has caused near-accidents for my family and I due to the car's erratic behavior. Ford has issued TSB 21-2389 to reprogram the pcm, but that does not resolve the issue. Ford dealership has told me the rear differential and torque converter need to be replaced to the cost of $9200.

4 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2019 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 02/24/2025

The transaxle, torque converter, and/or pcm/tcm have suddenly, and rapidly started wearing and degrading to the point of requiring replacement. Available for inspection upon request. The vehicle had troubles shifting, finding/selecting gears, and as a result, would lurch or come to abrupt stops at low speeds, have difficulty accelerating which made it difficult to enter or exit intersections where there is great risk of collision. I had to very carefully choose and wait for the opportune time to enter/exit roadways where no other vehicles were coming in case the vehicle would not accelerate for 3-5 seconds when using the accelerator pedal. Problem has been reproduced since first occurrence and a dealer has inspected the components indicating that replacement is needed. There were no indications, warnings, alerts, or messages to suggest that an issue was occurring until after the first several instances of failure to shift. I tried to use a scanner to find obd2 codes, but there were none. A generic alert via the driver display was given, but it took 500+ miles for a more specific warning and obd2 codes to be generated. From my understanding, there have been hundreds of drivers that have experienced the same issues with the same/similar models of Ford Edge vehicles that use the same transmission. Note: I had experienced shifting difficulty/roughness, rpm variation, slow gear changes, delayed acceleration at ~60k miles. I had brought the vehicle in for service where transmission fluid was flushed. Approximately another 55k miles later is when my vehicle experienced the severe failures described above. This is similar to many other vehicle owners experiencing these issues at ~60k miles.

5 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2019 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 09/16/2024

Purge flow valve had replaced by Ford service on 10/5/24. Car wouldn’t start after getting gas. Check engine light came on. Code was po496. Currently, upon acceleration @15-20 mph car starts jerking, buck, slipping, very hard to go hill. Took to Ford service for diagnostic on 10/15/24. Told torque converter shuddering on pids. Recommend replacing torque converter @ a cost of $5200. Per, reviewing many complaints on this same model & yr many haven’t had success with just replacing torque converter. It doesn’t fix issue. Transmission had to be replaced. Ford does have a TSB 21-2389 that supersedes TSB 21-2081 out. It states cars with 8f35 transmission may have this issue due to the software in the power train control module. Instructing, to reprogram the pcm & the transmission solenoid strategy. After reviewing all complaints on this issue, this solution does not correct problem. I was also told by Ford service; this wouldn’t fix the issue. From what I’ve read the way this transmission is engineered will likely cause it to always do this. Because Ford frankensteined the 6f35 (previous models) by inserting 2 gears in between existing ones, the transition from 1-2-3 will never be as fluid as 3-4, 4-5, and so on. Basically what is 1-3 on mine (8f35) is 1-2 on a 6f35. This quite frankly is a terrible transmission & only a matter of time before transmission goes completely out & someone gets killed. This year & model has numerous issues not listed here. Seems like as soon as warranty expires problems start popping up. Some issues pop up before warranty expires. This is getting dangerous & very expensive!.

6 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2019 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 07/15/2024

In 2019 Ford removed the low gear option from the shifter dial. Customers were forced to manually shift using paddle shifters to access engine braking in steep grade situations. Current Ford tcm programming for 2019 and newer vehicles skips from first to third gear at 4mph, 900-1000 rpm, providing no engine braking ability in speeds below 25 mph when using paddle shifters. My vehicle manual states “selectshift does not automatically upshift, even if the engine is approaching the rpm limit, unless the accelerator pedal is at full travel. ” despite contradictions to how the Ford owners manual says my car should operate, the dealership says it’s working as intended. I believe this violates NHTSA standard section s3. 1. 2 of that states that “[in] vehicles having more than one forward transmission gear ratio, one forward drive position shall provide a greater degree of engine braking than the highest speed transmission ratio at vehicle speeds below 25 miles per hour. " third gear does not provide more engine braking ability than drive in speeds below 25mph. This is a safety issue which could lead to potential brake failure in long, steep grade situations and provides no engine braking ability.

7 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2019 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 05/14/2024

In may of 2024 transmission downshifting hard at 35 mph as slowing down car milage was 67529. Took to dealer who performed diagnostics and verified a transmission problem; inspected fluid which was okay, performed TSB and reprogrammed pcm and reinstalled transmission strategy in module. Repairs done under warranty. Perform adaptive learn and noted it will feel different while driving for next few hundred miles. Six months later in November of 2024 transmission would hesitate, shudder, jerk between 20-40 mph and car mileage was 75937. Took back to dealer who did diagnostics, monitor pids and found the torque converter has failed causing shutter and also found the vehicle is flair shifting between gears. Checked fluid level and proper level is in transmission but fluid has meta debris. Dealer service representative advised it needs new transmission and would cost $800 or more to fix problem. Warranty expired at 72000 miles. We bought car new and had dealer perform all maintenance procedures and oil changes, etc. As noted in required maintenance schedule. We asked to speak with service manager who we saw in her office and we were told we'd need to make an appointment in late December or early January. We got no help from dealer or manufacturer, despite several technical service bulleting available at NHTSA showing transmission problems with 2019 Ford Edge. We finally got rid of the car but would say Ford Edges have definite transmission issues that may indicate a need for recall.

11 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2019 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 09/04/2022

Sunday September 4th my 2019 Ford Edge with 35,995 miles, started idling rough, and white smoke started coming out of the tailpipes. I completed my drive to my sisters house and left it to set and cool down for about 5 hours. When I left to head home it lurched forward while coming to a stop sign and went dead. I started it back up and a bunch of white smoke came out of the tailpipes and it smelled awful so I barely pulled it off to the side. My brother in law came and picked us up and he said the car was way too hot to have been sitting for that long. I had my son in the back seat and this all scared him to death. Through all of this not one dashboard light came on. No engine overhearing light, no check coolant light, no check engine light - nothing. I had it towed to the dealership the next day. Dealership says they replaced the egr cooler and reprogrammed the pcm. Hopefully I have no further issues.

My wife was driving with our two children on our road (a busy one) and the engine just stopped. She had to pull over with cars zooming by her and shut off the car and turned it back on. Engine light was flashing, go to find out the coils and pcm just went out. Looked online and a lot of people have the same problem.

19 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2013 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 06/14/2017

Vehicle was bought new and now has 60000 miles. We have had no problems before 06/14/17. Driving to work, there was a sudden loss of power, accelerator would not function and speedometer quit registering. The yellow wrench came on indicating there was some type of powertrain failure. Vehicle was on a two-lane bridge and had to limp to the other side to safely pull over. Was not able to travel more than 1-2 miles per hour. Pulled to the side of the road, put the car in park and turned off the engine. Waited a few minutes and decided to restart the car. Vehicle worked normally and was able to continue into work. Contacted Ford service and make appointment to bring it in the next morning for diagnosis. Technician verified concern, tried to pull a code, was not able to get one, but determined the problem was with the throttle body internal failure and replaced and reprogrammed pcm. A simple google search revealed a recall for this same problem and part by Ford but not for the Edge. However, it appears that there are many Edge owners who have had this same issue. This needs to be addressed and corrected before someone dies or is seriously injured.

21 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2007 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 03/14/2017

Ford dealer has my 2007 Ford Edge due to it stalling out while driving 60 mph on a highway causing my engine to die so I had to get towed home and off of the highway. The dealer originally thought it was the electronic throttle body but they have now determined that was not the problem. Instead it is the pcm which is costing me over $1500, if that even fixes this. Plus I have been paying for a rental car because the dealers don't have free loaner vehicles. So this whole thing is going to cost me about $2000. Now I have been researching this problem, and can clearly tell this is not normal wear and tear instead it is a faulty part that so many other owners are experiencing. I clearly see Ford has been made aware of this problem and they should be taking responsibility for their mistake. Ford has refused to issue a recall on this problem even though it is very dangerous and costly for the vehicle owner. I have never owned a Ford before and likely will not again because of this bad experience.

22 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2007 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 01/12/2017

I was driving down the interstate when I suddenly lost power. I managed to somehow get my car off the road and exit the highway (I was just about to the exit when this happened). It was looked at by a Ford dealer who said the pcm died and took out at least three coil packs. Told me if I drove it any further it would likely catch fire. Up to this point I hadn't had any problems with this car. It was running fine. This all happened so quickly and in such a dangerous location that it could have caused an accident. Upon researching places to fix the issue, I noticed a rather large amount of complaints about this same issue and this same make model and car year. Each complaint said this happened on the freeway.

23 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2007 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 12/18/2016

The contact owns a 2007 Ford Edge. While driving 60 mph, the pcm malfunctioned and the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was taken to be repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 180,000. The VIN was not available.

24 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2016 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 10/28/2016

My wife was on her way to a business meeting. Vehicle was stopped at a red light. Started to turn right, hit accelerator pedal and vehicle barely moved. Lost power, could only go 5 mph. Wrench light came on, as did awd. Created traffic hazzard as vehicles backed up behind on city street. Creeped to a parking area and had vehicle towed to dealer for evaluation and repair. Cause was powertrain control module (pcm) which was not replaced (following current Ford policy), but reprogrammed, meaning this could happen again in an even more dangerous setting, such as proceeding through an intersection or on a highway.

25 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2007 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 09/08/2016

The contact owns a 2007 Ford Edge. While driving 50 mph, the vehicle lost power and was towed to an independent mechanic. It was diagnosed that the ignition coil needed to be replaced due to being overheated by the pcm computer. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 37,700.

26 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2008 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 07/06/2016

On approximately 7/6/2016, while in motion, traveling north on riverside drive -I-55 north, on the 2-lane overpass at I-55 & mclemore, 18 wheeler was to the right and I was behind another motorist in line and traveling about 70 mph with a line of vehicles behind, it was after work rush hour 4:45pm; when as I am driving the vehicle sputters, seemed to it lose power, decelerates in the middle of on going traffic. The engine light flashed and then stayed illuminated, I could not accelerate in order get off to the side of the highway and traffic was at a very fast flow. My sync system surged, a-c stopped blowing cold air, the vehicle started "missing" but the vehicle did not shut off. Took the vehicle to advance auto parts store and was told that I had a misfire in 3 of the ignition coils, bought replacement coils and had all 6 of them replaced. Start the vehicle and the engine light was cleared but came right back, the vehicle is still miss firing on the exact same coils this time along with the pcm. Out of hundreds of dollars at the moment and it looks like I will be out of $3000 to Ford for an issue that they know is faulty within the design of the computer. We've already paid $30,000 for the vehicle, why would Ford not recall and repair these issues if they are aware of it????.

27 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2015 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 03/02/2016

2/26/2016 left Edge at Ford dealer who reprogramed the pcm 3/2/2016 turning from inglewood road onto 228th accelerated going up the hill, car jumped from ~30 to 40 then shut down into limp home mode, service light flashing, pulled to the side ran vehicle health report, turned off and restarted the car.

28 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2008 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 01/29/2016

Car loses all power unexpectedly and randomly, at any and all speeds, anywhere, anytime, displaying odo data error, transmission violently shakes into gears, car revs up but does not accelarate, upon turning car off, removing key, opening door, reinserting and restarting car (if you managed to safely pull on the side of the road), all error displays disappear, transmission clunks in gear and car needs to be forced to rev up to reset, once it resets car drives normally again till next failure. Ford dealers unable to diagnose problem as it leaves no codes. First time charged $800 for "possible" cause that wasn't, now $1700 as pcm melted and took along with it all ignition coils. Guess what, odo data error and transmission trouble still present. Both the Ford company and you people at the NHTSA need to step up to the plate and if Ford doesn't voluntarily recall the Edge, you ought to force them to recall it before someone gets mauled. This auto defect is an absolute danger to the operator and anyone else on the road.

29 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2015 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 12/22/2015

This report is an update to complaint: 10788647. This vehicle, a 2015 Ford Edge sel with a 3. 5l engine, was repaired by a Ford dealership for a stalling/loss of power while driving issue. The dealership had the vehicle from November 5-13, 2015, and reprogramed the pcm in order to correct the stalling condition. Initially, this action seemed to resolve the stalling issue. However, in recent days the gas mileage has dropped about 3 mpg, and on Tuesday, December 22, 2015, at 7:25pm the Edge stalled will driving (not accelerating, decelerating, or turning) and the engine quit. The vehicle simple stalled and lost total power while driving. There were no warning or error lights. The only message was "full accessory power active. " I had to place the vehicle in park in order to restart, which I was able to do. Fortunately, I was not on a busy roadway when the vehicle stalled. The dealership advised me to bring them the vehicle the next day, December, 23, 2015, and the vehicle has remained in their possession since that time. This issue is dangerous. I live in a major metropolitan area and travel interstates everyday. If it stalls while I am on the interstate, the situation could be disastrous.

30 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2007 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 12/19/2015

I was traveling around 40 mph on a state highway when sputtering and vibration issues started with 2007 Ford Edge and check engine light came on. Still drove vehicle to my mechanic which stated coil burned out and sent surge of power to the pcm. Mechanic stated design of pcm wouldn't stop the firing of coil and not to drive vehicle any further or it will burn to the ground. Mechanic stated only the Ford dealership can install a new one and rest the car to get it running. Towed vehicle to Ford dealership who stated they have a TSB issued for this problem and they will need to replace the pcm and all 6 coils because they have all melted. Ford dealership stated this was an on going problem due to a faulty design of the pcm that when a coil burns out (common wear and tear and $100 to $200 fix) the pcm doesn't stop firing to the coils which could cause the car to catch fire. Estimate to fix the pcm and all six coils was $2,958. Reason for complaint - I understand wear and tear on a vehicle, but due to a design issue in the Ford/Mercury/Lincoln pcm, it caused extensive damage and repair to the car and potential to burn to the ground. $100 fix with proper design and now $2,958 due to pcm issue. I am requesting this issue to be reviewed for reimbursement by the manufacturer or recall issued. Thanks you for your time.

31 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2011 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 11/10/2015

Vehicle failed NJ state inspection twice for "not ready" conditions. There's a known issue recall 13e04 - pcm configuration error with computer issue dtc p160a reoccurring and our VIN is not covered under this first recall although every issue is the same as VIN specific recalls.

32 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2007 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 11/02/2015

The contact owns a 2007 Ford Edge. The contact stated that the service engine warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was remedied under NHTSA campaign number: 14v682000 ( fuel system, gasoline) however the failure recurred. In addition, the vehicle also operated abnormally. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the #6 coil pack, #3 coil pack, and the pcm needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 148,000.

33 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2015 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 10/21/2015

In a parking garage, turning right at slow speed and vehicle stalled. No warning, all was going smooth until vehicle just stalled. Vehicle restarted. Informed dealer. Dealer service department "reprogramed pcm per TSB 15-0123". Thought all was taken care of until stalled again in March. So reporting now.

34 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2008 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 04/05/2015

This has been an ongoing problem for a while now (years). What is happening is my transmission is struggling to shift into gear, but more often when traveling at approximately 15-25 mph. At this speed, it will shift but oftentimes when it shifts there is a thud and hard jerk, almost seeming as my transmission is going to drop right out of my car. When I first had this diagnosed, the dealership thought perhaps my pcm needed recalibrated. Shortly after the recalibration, the entire pcm fried and it needed replaced. Luckily, it was covered under an 80,000 mile warranty (my car had about 75,000 miles on it. . . Phew). Needless to say, after the entire pcm replacement, my car still struggles to shift and, unfortunately, it seems like I am not the only one having this problem.

35 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2007 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 01/15/2015

I have a 2007 Ford Edge. My wife was drive and with no warning or notification the car started shaking, sputtering, and lost all power. The shop I took it to says the pcm and 3 ignition coils need to be replaced. I have found online hundreds of people with the same problem on the same car. I contacted Ford about a recall and was told it is my problem. I have always been a Ford man, I have owned 7 but now will never buy one a again.
