I have a 2007 Ford Edge with very low mileage to date. This is usually my family car, driven by my wife. We live in guatemala and drove to a house on the beach, that is about 100 miles away. On January first when we were returning I started the car and noticed a shake and sputter, and I thought that it was probably a defictive spark plug. I managed to drive out of where we were and as soon as we got to the main highway I had to stop and call for a tow. The shaking and sputtering were frightening. The shop I took it to says that at least 3 ignition coils need to be replaced and are not sure if the pcm also has to be replaced. Unfortunately, since there are parts stock problem here, I had to wait almost a month to get the parts and now that I have them (the coils) I still have to wait to see what the real problem is. I have contacted the dealer in the region to see what can be done. I had to report this as it is not a unique problem tobuyers in the us, also abroad.

I filed the original complaint (10680995) on February 3rd, but I wanted to edit or update it, but couldnâ´t find the way, so I am taking the liberty to post a new one. It has been 2 and a half months since the incident and as a disgrace it has not been possible for the Ford dealer in central America to get the computer module part. Can you imagine this amount of time without your vehicle, specially if it is your working tool? the following was my statement in the first report: "I have a 2007 Ford Edge with very low mileage to date. So far, I do not know when the part will be available. Last Friday it was still in cackorder in the Ford plant, or so they say. I donâ´t know either how much is going to cost, but at this rate I just want to get rid of that piece of junk. I have provided a florida contact as there is no access to other countries.
On or around 11/29/2014 I was driving my family in our 2007 Ford Edge on the freeway, traveling approx. 70 mph, when the system display read somthing referring to o/d transmission message of some sort. I lost drive train power and coasted to an exit ramp while the vehicle struggle to maintain drive. A short time later I was able to park in a parking lot, and when I shifted the lever into park it passed by reverse and shifted violently. I tried to shifht to drive with the same result. I contacted avis Ford where we purchased the vehicle, told them what happened, and they informed me that thier service center was backed up on transmission repars for a recall till February 2015! I found atransmission shop who, ran a diagnostic check, and drove my vehicle with me in it, and said there wasn't anything he could see. I called my salesman, he tried to see what he could do. He later informed me if I could somehow get the vehicle home, to unhook the battery, wait for an hour, and hook it back up that this would reset the pcm module, and maybe correct the issue. It appeared to remedy the symptom, until today when my wife arrived at her office, and as she was pulling in to park the same message appeared, with the same symptoms. Unfortunately this is our only vehicle, and I'll have to wait and see what to do next. I have contacted my dealer. I also calle Ford motor CO. 's customer service today to see if there were any recalls for these symptoms, and the representative stated that there were none for that. But did give me a recall on gas tank straps, and a case #cas-5879019.
I pulled out of my driveway and everything was fine. I pulled out of my neighborhood and as soon as I gave it any good amount of gas it starting driving really rough and shaking and the a/c went out you could hear the missfire on the clynders and the transmission was reving high before it would shift gears. No check engine lights or anything at this point. I turned back around and took my car back home turned it off and then turned it back on and thats when the check engine light came on. We pulled the code and it was p0352 (ingintion coil 2 or pcm) so we bought and changed all spark plugs and coil 2. This still didnt fix the problem. So I took it in to the dealership and $3000 later they had to replace my pcm (the main computer that run the car) all 6 coils and spark plugs. I did a lot of research about my car having this problem and it seems like a lot of people are having the same issue. Please recall this. My computer should not have gone out when I do regular maintence on my car.

I was driving my vehicle and noticed it jerking and hesitating to accelerate. The engine light became blinking rapidly and I noticed a burning smell. I took my car to a shop, who stated that one of the coils had melted and cracked. They replaced the coils and all spark plugs. Picked my vehicle up and still had the same issues, constant jerking, engine light still on, and still not wanting to accelerate. Took vehicle back the following day, shop stated the pcm was bad and needed to be replaced. I then contacted a local Ford dealership, who claimed they had never heard of this issue, and I would need to pay for them to run their own diagnostics on it, even though I was well aware of what was wrong with it. As of right now the car is still not fixed, and runs horribly. I refuse to spend anymore money on a problem that Ford is well aware of!!!.
My vehicle all of a sudden started to slow down suddenly like I had taken my foot off the gas. It started shuddering and my transmission light came on. I thought it was the transmission so I had it towed to the shop. After diagnosis, it showed my cylinders were misfiring. It was due to a bad coil which was causing the spark plugs to read at an extremely high voltage. They needed to replace all coils and all spark plugs. Then found out that it fried my pcm(computer) which also had to be replaced. Come to find out, this is a know issue with the 2007 Ford Edge and there is a TSB on it for this exact situation. The dealership told me that the pcm had a malfunction which caused the coils/spark plugs to go bad. They also said the pcm has a manufacturer 8 year/80,000 mile warranty. Well I was at 7 years/83000 miles and when they submitted the warranty claim, Ford denied it forcing me to pay $2400 for the repairs. I think this is ridiculous to deny a known malfunction for only 3000 miles over. What if I had been on the highway when my vehicle suddenly came to a stop? I had my son with me that day and this could have caused a major accident, possibly involving other drivers, and we may have even been injured. And Ford doesn't feel responsible to help with the cost of this repair??.
While driving approximately 60 mph, the vehicle shuttered and there was a loss of acceleration power. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an automotive repair shop where it was diagnosed that the 6 ignition coils, spark plugs and the pcm system needed to be replaced. The current mileage is 97395.
Transmission jerks and acts as if it doesn't want to shift into place at speeds between 20-40 mph. As per Fords protocol had the pcm reprogrammed, but that has not helped. I am being told it is the torque converter, possibly the transmission itself. Apparently this is a common and costly issue with this transmission.

The contact owns a 2007 Ford Edge. The contact stated that a burning plastic odor was emitted from under the hood area. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer and was told that the power train control module (pcm) was causing the coils that lead to the transmission to overheat and catch on fire. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and the current mileages were 115,000.
Driving home from work at a speed of 55 to 65 on I-65 in montgomery, alabama when all of a sudden my car begin to not recognize the gas . It slowed down suddenly and the engine began to shake. I made it to an exit by driving slowly with hazard lights on. We took the car to gilmore Ford the same day. On 11/8/12 we were informed that the pcm caused the coil pack (2) to not fire and therefore burned it up. I asked if this was a known problem with the car and was informed by [xxx] that he has only seen it once. Well I decide to look into it via the web and found that this is a known defect in the pcm installed on Ford Edges. My thought is that had traffic been going faster I would have had an accident in the middle of the highway with how quickly the car speed shifted down. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
The contact owns a 2008 Ford Edge limited. The contacted stated that while traveling 20-25 mph, a popping noise emitted outside of the vehicle as the vehicle became resistant to acceleration attempts. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who confirmed that the pcm module failed and the engine coils were melted. The manufacturer was contacted. The vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was 81,000 and the current mileage was 82,000.
Ok, enough is enough. I have a 2007 Ford Edge and it is having hard engagement issues when shifting gears. Also, a couple of times I have been ready to pull out into traffic and it's as if my car is sitting in neutral. I have to put the car in park, turn it off, start and put back into drive for it to start going again. Very unsafe and worries me driving my kids around in the car with these problems. I have taken my car to the dealership on a couple of occasions with these problems and was told that the diagnostic test was not "throwing a code" so basically there is not a fix. They do however acknowledge that there are a lot of these complaints and a definite issue but they could do nothing unless a recall was done. It's getting worse and the other day I took somewhere else and was told Ford has an update now to help some of the issues pcm update to the computer. Guess what. . . It didn't help mine and they said I for sure now have some transmission problems due to the hard shifting problems I have been experiencing. Well, no kidding! ok, when you have your dealerships telling you they know there is a problem but they can't do anything about it, that's just crazy. We need for there to be some awareness and action to these problems.
Occasionally, (once or twice a year) the vehicle jerks violently once between 20-45 mph when slowing and then accelerating. Feels like the vehicle was rear ended or hit a huge pot hole. This has happened very intermittently. Recently, it is happening once or twice a month. Local Ford dealer checked pcm (?) calibration and updated it to TSB 08. Hopefully this will solve the problem.
