36 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2012 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 10/10/2019

There is a partial recall on these model Ford Edge's. Where the brake booster and brake master cylinder are defective and cause the brakes to fill with air and lose partial and sometimes total loss of braking power. This happened to my 2012 Ford Edge sport. I bought new factory parts and had them installed by a professional. They went out again. It had to do with he factory of the parts. Please place a mass recall on this part. My wife and kids shouldn't get into a wreck due to brakes going out again. They already have totally gone out twice. The 2nd time my wife with daughter and my son in the car couldnt slow down in time and got into a fender bender. It wasn't serious. This time. Thank you. Also, another problem that has been noted by thousands of Ford Edge owners is the style of fuel door. It doesn't seal properly which in return causes a check engine light to appear on the instrument cluster. Please investigate this issue as sell. Thank you.

37 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2011 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 10/05/2019

In July 2017, experienced hard to press brakes with hissing noise, warranty extension provided to replace brake booster, 27 months later, similar issue, brakes work but pedal continues to floor. Recommeneded master cylinder replacement by dealership and independent mechanic, replaced and still having the same issue - diagnosis is that it is again brake booster which was only covered for a single repair and warrantied for 12 months. No recourse from Ford despite many reports of this issue from other customers, expensive and dangerous failure.

38 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2012 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 10/03/2019

Brakes go all the way to floor. I have had brake booster replaced and master cylinder and still there is an issue. See that other people are having same issue and that Ford needs to check into this before somebody is badly injured!.

39 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2013 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 09/21/2019

Brake pedal went to the floor as I applied them after exiting interstate and pulling into a parking lot. It was taken to a Ford dealership where the master cylinder, booster and hcu were all replaced, but problem still persisted.

40 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2013 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 09/13/2019

This car is horrible. Multiple safety issues! first, my axle needs to be redone. Clicking and popping with all turns. Secondly, the electronics are haywire, with the ac blowing hot on one side and cold on the other and not starting with brand new batteries. Third, the brake system. . . Had the booster go out. Ford replaced and upon the drive back, it failed even worse locking my engine, smoke fromthe brakes being locked up. I had to tow back on my expense and rent a car for days. The replaced the booster, but I still have even worsening brake issues. Ford told me I need a new abs and master cylinder. It only did this after the 2 failed boosters. . . Now if I hit a bump or gravel while pressing the brakes, my brakes go out! I mean they fail! luckily I haven't hit anyone yet. It's off and on but happens with no warning. The pedal goes all the way to the floor and there's the constant sound of hissing and air. I have contacted Ford multiple times which is horrible and taken to the dealership where I leave with no problems until the next unexpected blow out on the brakes. All you have to do is google this model and there are tons and tons of reports of complaints for the same issue. Ford should stand by their products and fix to avoid injuries, death and lawsuits. I had no issues with my car until other than the initial brake booster failure, until my car was left with smoke all under my car from the second brake booster. I got one thing fixed only to have major problems after. How is that fair? obviously Ford didn't fix correctly and/or gave me bad equipment which burned my system up. Now I need to pay for my abs to be fixed? shame on Ford! very dangerous. Will never buy Ford again. At least the foreign cars stand by their products. Buyers beware the Edge is tainted.

41 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2013 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 09/06/2019

Brake failure on a 2013 Ford Edge. I applied my brakes as I approached stopped traffic on I-26 east bound. The brake pedal went all the way to the floor without stopping the car completely. I pumped the brakes and it slowly began to stop. Fortunately I did not hit the car in front of me. I pulled off to the side of the road. The brake pedal remained at the floor of the car. There was no warning that there was a problem with the brakes. My vehicle has never had any type of brake problem. It has around 50,000 miles. I had the car taken to my mechanic to determine the problem. In the mean time I looked to see if there was a recall for this problem. I did find a number of complaints from Edge owners that experienced this same problem but no recall. This is an extremely dangerous situation that needs to be addressed by Ford. My mechanic later informed me that both the brake booster and the brake master cylinder needed to be replaced. The location of these parts requires a lot of labor to replace them. Total cost $1,375.

42 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2012 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 09/01/2019

When normally depressing the brake pedal, the abs intermittently activates. Also, the brake pedal gets soft. There are very new brakes on my 2012 Ford Edge. The local Ford dealer, Ford customer service hotline all say there is no known issue as this. There are website listing numerous accidents indicating same issues where abs activates, brake pedal goes to the floor resulting in an accident. This issue needs to be corrected by Ford and a recall performed. So far, no known deaths but there have been many accidents with injuries. The issue is in the abs, not the booster, not the master cylinder. Disabling the abs removes the issue. Ford needs to fix this problem ASAP before someone dies.

44 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2011 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 08/24/2019

Tl the contact owns a 2011 Ford Edge. While driving approximately 45 mph, the brake pedal was depressed and traveled to the floorboard. There was no warning indicator illuminated before or after the failure. The contact stated that the brake pedal was depressed several times and was able to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to george waikem Ford (located at 4321 Lincoln way e, massillon, OH 44646, (330) 478-1801) where it was diagnosed that there was total brake system failure due to a failure of the hydraulic pump, brake master cylinder, and hydraulic control unit. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000.

45 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2013 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 08/23/2019

In August 2019 I suddenly experienced lis of brake boost and brake pedal went to the floor. I was able to pump up the brakes and drove to the local Ford dealership where I was given an appointment to evaluate and repair. Dealership reported it was not a booster issue, but abs sensor not communicating with ecm. Dealership reported they reprogrammed and was working fine. Less than a week later I experienced the same issue. Dealership checked and found no codes issue and started they believed it to be master cylinder failure, but they weren't sure. They suggested replacing parts step by step until they found the faulty part, starting with master cylinder. Master cylinder replaced, same issue. Electronic module tested and found to be okay. Now they have no idea. From reading online posts, it's obvious there is an issue with this model brake system. Contacted Ford customer service and they won't address issue. Local dealership is james hodge. Help!!.

46 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2013 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 08/15/2019

Car took very long to stop. I had to keep pumping the brakes to make it stop. If I just kept the brakes pressed down without pumping the car kept rolling. This happened whenever I had to stop at a light or a stop sign. I brought the car to a Ford dealer and they said it was the master cylinder. I had that replaced and I still had the same problem. I went on a website and found out there was a recall on Ford Edges that was exactly my problem and it said it was caused by a leak in the brake booster. I brought the car back to Ford and they replaced the brake booster and this solved the problem. However I was told that my car was not part of the recall so I had to pay for all of the costs.

47 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2012 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 08/02/2019

While my wife was driving the car, she was not able to stop the car in a timely manner, the brake pedal went completely to the floor. We took it to the Ford dealer and they said it was most likely the master cylinder, they replaced it but the problem was still there. They then replaced a hydraulic brake module and said it was ok. We picked it up, paid $781. 40 for the repair. We drove it home approximately 1 mile, and the problem had not changed, we almost went through the garage before it would stop.

48 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2013 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 08/01/2019

Trying to stop at 35-40 mph at a red light, brake pedal went all the way to the floor, had to step very hard on the brake pedal to stop. After that I felt a spongy brake pedal, hissing sound, and abnormal braking movement. Dealership initial diagnosis; brake booster & master cylinder, at a cost of 1600 could not figure out why they still have a spongy pedal, now asking for 800 more for a abs module. Complete defective brake system from Ford! 2013 Ford Edge 125,000 miles.

49 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2015 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 07/08/2019

My breaks are super sensitive. Just tapping the break at slow speeds will cause it to lock up the breaks. At high speeds it is a little better but still have to constantly adjust the amount of pressure applied to avoid skid/abs from kicking in. Brought to dealer for repairs and they replaced break booster part b. That did not correct the issue. Has been like this since I bought it in 2019. I was told "it was a break flap". No such thing. My brother has a vehicle from same manufacturer same year different make and the master cylinder was recalled and that corrected his issue. Having breaks that you can't trust is a horrible feeling even worse heading into winter. Is this a common issue for 2015 Ford Edges? because this is leaving me with bad feelings toward Ford mortor company.

50 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2012 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 07/06/2019

Abs, master cylinder and booster failed. Problem is infrequent soft pedal. 1. Booster replaced under Ford notice 13n02c. But soft pedal persisted off and on for months 2. Now dealer says abs and master cylinder are not working right. 3. Dealer requested financial assistance from Ford and no reply. $1800 est for repairs 4. Car is sitting at the dealer for 2 weeks with no resolution, today is 7/19/2019. Why have all three major braking components failed on this car? one problem, booster, Ford fixed n/c but now they are no help with the other two. Is there a design or mfg problem with the braking system? the soft pedal is very infrequent but scary when it does happen. Dealer had difficulty figuring out the issues as we kept coming back but by the time we arrived the soft pedal went away and the dealer could not test it. Finally we came back and the pedal was soft and they tested it and determined it was the abs and master cylinder. Dealer says car is not safe to drive.

51 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2008 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 07/04/2019

Partial loss of brakes stopping the vehicle while in motion. Hissing noise occurred when applying the brakes. Possibly caused by faulty master cylinder or boost system. * recall was issued for this problem for 2010-2013 Ford Edge vehicles.

52 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2012 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 06/24/2019

The contact owns a 2012 Ford Edge. While driving 40 mph, the brakes failed. When the contact attempted to brake, the pedal traveled to the floorboard. The contact almost crashed into another vehicle due to the failure. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that a new master cylinder and abs bleed motor unit needed to be installed. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer and dealer were not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 147,013.

53 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2009 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 05/06/2019

I have a 2009 Ford Edge sel with 113,300 miles. I had been experiencing brake issues with squeaking and having to push the brake pedal down all the way with fear that the car would not stop. There were no warning signs or warning lights and just came out of the blue. It would happen whether I was just driving slow or faster on any type of road or weather condition. I saw Ford put an extra warranty on Edges from 2010-2013 regarding the same issue via 13n02. I have read a lot of complaints from years previous and after this extended warranty. I think this should be looked into as I have a young son who I drive to school a lot and since there was no warning about brake failure I'm just thankful nothing bad happened. I took it to a mechanic and was told it was the master cylinder and a bad power brake booster. Thank you.

54 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2013 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 05/02/2019

Vehicle has been in for brake repair numerous times. Last was master cylinder. Most recent is brakes going to floor with air sound coming from inside. Local dealer is always booked 2 weeks. I do have extended warranty & have spent a fortune on deductibles for brake issues. I travel for work in all types of mountainous conditions. After reading there are 144 complaints on 2013 model this is definitely a dangerous issue. Needs recall.

55 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2012 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 04/12/2019

Pedal went to the floor while driving on a highway which almost resulted in a serious car accident because the braking system did not engage. Unaware of the numerous complaints about spongy brakes, ntb attempted to replace hoses and master cylinder to no avail after replacing the master cylinder three times. There is obviously a defect in the parts /system since qualified mechanics can't fix the vehicle. Car will be towed to a Ford dealership but they have already started with disclaimers and that there is no recall or issues with the braking system despite numerous complaints about this very problem . Nhtsa needs to intervene and force Ford to recall this defective part . Lives can be lost unnecessarily because no one has taken action on behalf of the consumer.

56 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2012 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 04/12/2019

After strong braking event - brake pedal became very soft and increasing pressure on the pedal was required to stop the vehicle. Took into a Ford dealer for repair - brake booster was replaced. A year later after a similar braking event - the same symptoms re-appeared. Dealer said it was faulty brake pad install. Problem persisted. 2 other independent mechanics replaced the master cylinder and bled the system. Problem persisted. Now dealer says its the hydraulic control module. However it would appear to be the booster again. This seems to be a faulty part that Ford will not admit needs to be recalled.

57 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2011 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 03/31/2019

When applying the brakes the brake pedal sinks to the floor and is hesitant to stop completely. I have had the master cylinder changed, the abs pump has been replaced and the vehicle had the brake booster replaced around 1 year ago due to a Ford recall. This vehicle has been in the shop for 3 weeks now and the mechanic cannot seem to fix this issue. This seems to be a well known problem with the brake system for this vehicle and is dangerous to the occupants of the vehicle and others in the surrounding areas. This issue has the potential for random brake loss which can occur in injury or death.

58 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2011 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 03/28/2019

Driving on city streets 35-45mph when I had to apply the brake. Brakes felt spongey (no anti lock feel) and the pedal went almost to the floor. This originally occurred mid February 2019, but corrected itself after letting the car sit overnight. It occurred again late March 2019 and this time the condition persisted and made me feel that the brakes could ultimately fail. I checked online and found multiple mentions of this issue with Ford Edges, but no formal recall - which the dealership later verified. My vehicle is a 2011 with 135,000 miles. The vehicle has had all of its required/recommended maintenance and is in good condition otherwise. The diagnosis was as follows - "found the master with leak and hcu/abs seeping and dump valve, e on found brakes bypassing". The dealer replaced the control and module and also recommended that I replace the master cylinder, which I agreed to allow. Expensive repair - just a bit past $1900 with parts and labor.

59 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2011 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 03/04/2019

I have problems with the abs sensor. When you hit a big bump or when you brake on ice the brakes shutter & the brake pedal goes to the floor unable to stop. Usually I can pump them & I get brakes back. Now I can't pump them up, I call it a soft brake, I can not stop fast if a vehicle stops fast in front of me. I was told from my mechanic that it needs abs hcu unit & master cylinder changed. He also told me that they frequently have calls from Ford owners that have Edge & fusion with the same issue of loosing their brakes, in fact they take bets on how many calls they will get on a snow day or rainy day. I can't believe there hasn't been a recall on this, it is extremely dangerous.

60 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2012 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 02/27/2019

First has brake issues about 1-2 years after I purchased my car in 2012. The brake booster was replaced under the extended warranty, and I have had no issues up until January 2019. My brakes went out while stopping at a train track with a train coming, replaced the brake booster and all is seemingly well. Now one month later, my brakes have gone out again while stopping at a stoplight in the rain (almost hit the car in front of me), and the mechanic can't figure out what is wrong. They've replaced the brake booster again, the master cylinder, flushed the lines, called Ford and flushed the lines the way they recommended, and the most they can get my brakes to work for is 30-40 minutes before they go out again. The mechanic literally told my dad to light a match, and let the insurance take care of it! why hasn't this been recalled based on all of these stories?!?.

61 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2016 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 02/25/2019

Driving vehicle out of development when I experienced the brakes catastrophically fail. I pushed all the way to the floor with little response. The dealer said the master cylinder leaked into the booster causing both components to fail. Over $1,000 on repair and no tangible solution. Fearful!.

62 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2012 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 02/22/2019

I have had to brake quickly on 2 occasions and 1 of the times I had to slam on my brakes as a car ran a stop sign coming off the highway. The pedal went all the way to the floor, I had to swerve into the other lane to avoid hitting the car and barely was able to stop my car. The second time I had to stop quickly and brake grinded to a stop in heavy traffic and a city street. Both time the pedal went all the way to the floor. During my new york state inspection did not pass due to a soft brake pedal, I had the back brakes replaced and they discovered the master cylinder had a leak. I had it replaced as well and the brakes still are not working properly. I have an appointment this Saturday to have the long pins (I think that's what it's called) replaced on the back brakes. They also said it's possible I will need to have the power brake booster replaced. After several hundred dollars and 4 Saturday's spent at the car repair store and still not resolution to the brake problem. I've read multiple complaints about the same issues on the same year, make and model car maybe it's time to issue a recall before it costs someone their life.

63 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2012 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 01/31/2019

While driving and trying to stop the brake pedal became very hard to push. Had the brake booster replaced. Now after only 6 months the brake pedal is soft. Had the master cylinder replaced and it is still acting the same. This is unsafe and will not pass inspection. This is a common problem according to my research with Ford Edges. They have a replacement program in place for the brake booster but this was fixed and have a similar problem. So obviously that isn't the answer.

64 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2012 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 12/10/2018

Tl the contact owns a 2012 Ford Edge. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to jennings anderson Ford (31480 frontage rd, boerne, TX 78006) where the brake booster was replaced. Two weeks later, while driving 65 mph, the contact depressed the brake pedal, but the vehicle did not respond. The contact had to swerve off the road to avoid a crash. The vehicle was taken back to the same dealer where it was diagnosed that the hydraulic control unit and master cylinder needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 117,000.

65 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2011 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 11/19/2018

Thanksgiving time (2018) applied brakes, (2011 Ford Edge with 105,000 miles), went to floor barley stopping. Almost plowed into car in front of us. Scared crap out of us. Never did this before!!! had car towed to local shop. Put on new master cylinder. Three weeks later brakes go to floor and very poor stopping. Towed to local shop and yet a second master cylinder installed. One week later, poor stopping yet once again. Few feet from plowing into garage wall. All occasions the vehicle was traveling at a good rate of speed, only to find out no stopping petal. Had to rapidly pump spongey petal to hope it stops. After fixing, worked somewhat normally, but reverts back to spongey petal and scary situation as if is it going to stop. (note, no abs pulsating at any time!) once again back to shop. I consult youtube and find a video where a Ford expedition had same exacting problem as mine. Determined to be the abs control module. Not a master cylinder. (and not a brake booster where petal is hard. )there is a hydraulic version (available through Ford) and an electronic version (no longer available anywhere including Ford) abs control module. So a eight year old car with 105,000 miles cannot be repaired as the demand on this part is apparently so great it has exhausted stock and cannot be replaced with a new part. In closing, the only way to repair the vehicle is to find a junkyard donor vehicle and hope that parts will not fail. But chances are that it too, will eventually fail. I believe that the ntsb needs to investigate this dangerous safety defect. Abs is supposed to help prevent accidents, not create them. Please consider. Also, feel as though I should be reimbursed for my out of pocket costs on this too. Well over $1000. Thanks (xxxx)consult youtube sinking/spongy brake petal- with abs system published by (xxxx). 66 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2012 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 11/12/2018

I had the brake booster, master cylinder, new brake pads and brake hydraulic system replaced 5 months ago and now it's doing the same thing again. Brakes are hard to push and very difficult to stop or go all the way down. Also, burning smell around the brakes. Very dangerous.

67 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2012 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 11/12/2018

When approaching an intersection the brakes failed and brake pedal fell all the way to the floor, forcing me to turn into curb to avoid being hit by cross traffic. This is an intermittent issue that occurs when pressure is placed on the system. The Ford dealership has already replaced the brake booster and master cylinder (twice) and they cannot duplicate the issue. This has almost caused several wrecks, as there is typically no warning signs to when it may occur.

68 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2012 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 11/08/2018

My wife was driving to work after dropping our 2 year old off at grandmas. She went to slow for a stale green light and the brake pedal went to the floor. Luckily she was almost to work at this point. We had the vehicle towed to my shop. Replace the brake booster because it has a known issue ( no recall just warranty extension), also replaced the master cylinder because this was clearly a hydraulic failure in the brake system. Driving the vehicle home that night with a good pedal until I get to the off ramp, at 70 miles an hour there is no longer any brake pedal and had to use the transmission to safely slow the vehicle. Now my wife is terrified to drive her vehicle in fear that the pedal is there one minute and gone the next.

69 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2011 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 10/29/2018

I've had several breaking issues since buying the car earlier 2018. I wish I would have researched the brake issues with the 2011 Edge I would have chose a different vehicle. It was very slick out and my husband slid through a stop light when the brakes failed. They were soft and spongy and went straight to the floor. We change the brake pads paid a mechanic to change the master cylinder not once but twice because we continue to have soft brakes. Had a mechanic bleed the brakes saying are was in the lines still an issue. The booster has been replaced with the recall and they will not replace it a second time. Now they want to replace the hydraulic control unit. The quote is $1,650. My husband has been scared to death to drive the vehicle and I am not allowed due to the faulty braking. We have ran off the road twice by people stopping suddenly and not being able to break.

70 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2011 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 10/25/2018

Driving vehicle and brakes went to the floor. Ford dealer had it for 7 days and said they couldn't make the car brakes fail. Pedal was good and couldn't do the extended warranty on the brake booster. I took car to another Ford dealer and he said he would fix it under the extended warranty recall. They had it for 7 days and told me the parts are ordered and they said they fixxed it brake booster installed. No paper work to sign you are good to go. 1 week later no brakes again they said it needed a brake master cylinder, put it on and 1 week later no brakes. Called back the dealer and the service rep says he couldn't find where the brake booster had been replaced. He made an appointment to see the car and when we got there they had no record of an appointment and said mike doesn't work here anymore. Still car has no brakes at pedal sometimes you can pump the pedal to get some brakes. Brakes have been bled etc.
