2 Brakes Failed problem of the 2011 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 04/19/2021

On or about April 19, 2021, without warning, the vehicle's braking system significantly failed. While attempting to slow the vehicle down by applying the brakes, the brake pedal had very little pressure and didn't slow the vehicle unless depressing the brake pedal almost to the floorboard. The loss of sufficient braking could have resulted in damage to property or even personal injury. The vehicle was immediately taken to the local Ford dealership in columbia, south carolina whereby the technician reviewed the vehicle and determined the anti-lock brake system ("abs") hydraulic control unit failed with an internal issue. The abs and/or braking system on a modern vehicle should not fail. The cost to repair and address said issue was $1,912. 85. Attached and incorporated herein by reference is an invoice and receipt of said repair. The same vehicle was previously recalled for "brake booster failure. " this vehicle should also be recalled for the abs hydraulic control unit failing before someone gets seriously injured or even killed.

Brake booster failure. Ford customer satisfaction program 13n02. Ford state's that my VIN is not part of this problem, but this is exactly what is wrong. I should have been covered, and this vehicle is not safe to drive.

8 Brakes Failed problem of the 2011 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 12/10/2020

The 2011 Ford Edge brakes partially failed. Car can still stop but pedal goes to the floor. It seems there may be metal in the hydraulic pump system caused by improper internal design (not properly lubricating possibly). This is a serious concern that could lead to a fatality. Too many issues herein documented, garages seem to know of this on-going problem and a solution must be provided by Ford. Tis is a serious public safety issue. .

9 Brakes Failed problem of the 2011 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 12/07/2020

Brakes failed. Paddle went completely to the floor, city driving.

10 Brakes Failed problem of the 2009 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 10/19/2020

Pedal went hard and down to the floor. Came close to rear ending car in front of me. From what I've heard this is a common issue and Ford doesn't have a recall, although they do with newer years of the same model. Very dangerous and these cars should have a recall. . It's absurd that a brake booster should fail and not have a recall with a known deadly issue.

11 Brakes Failed problem of the 2013 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 10/10/2020

Brake booster failure hissing leak Ford will not honor recall because of location where made. Car dies out at low rpm 104,000 miles this failure is known as customer satisfaction program 13n02 ## #vpic# 1 - check digit (9th position) does not calculate properly; 2 - VIN corrected, error in one position; 14 - unable to provide information for all the characters in the VIN. #vpic#.

12 Brakes Failed problem of the 2011 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 10/08/2020

2011 Edge sport. Coming to a stop sign, doing 22-23mph, the brake pedal depressed about 90% of the way before engaging. Brakes had to be jammed to the floor to stop the vehicle. We would have hit the other car if they hadn't swerved. I was powerless to stop. Dealer checked the booster that had already been replaced under warranty and said it was the abs module and control unit. I am seeing this happening to a lot of Edge sport and limited owners especially. Ford is not fully acknowledging the faulty design here by only covering the booster. It is incredibly dangerous and I can only imagine how many people have been hurt or didnt get to report the sudden brake failure as a result of death.

13 Brakes Failed problem of the 2013 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 08/27/2020

Vehicle had brake failure to brake booster issues. Ford states not covered under recall but having exact issue of recall. Vehicle was in motion when brakes failed, turning into a daycare center.

14 Brakes Failed problem of the 2011 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 08/14/2020

The brake pedal goes to the floor board before any braking happens. The braking is minimal when this happens. This has happened 4 times and is still happening in the last year starting in 08/14/2020. The pedal returns to the regular position and operates normally after this occurrence. I have had 4 different mechanics try to diagnose this brake failure with no success. This a intermittent brake failure! because it is a intermittent brake failure even the Ford dealer cannot duplicate the failure! no repairs expect for a power brake bleeding have been done. One of the mechanics I had look at the car said he found an extended warranty for this failure Ford said they could not find one for this failure. I googled it and found a couple of extended warranties for similar brake failures. It is a bit to technical for my to understand fully. I have googled 2011 Ford Edge brake failures and found many occurrences of this happening other people. Please let me emphasize that this is an intermittent brake failure! it only that one time for brakes to fail and kill a family! I have read online that people being charged $1000's to "fix" the problem only to have it happen again. This needs to corrected before someone gets killed! and that someone could be me or someone you love!!.

15 Brakes Failed problem of the 2013 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 08/13/2020

1. Low engine oil pressure light continues to come on and cause the vehicle engine to seize up. Checked oil level which was good and changed oil. While driving the vehicle on city streets it continues to seize the engine up and cause the vehicle to become stationary. It takes a few tries before the engine will turn over when I try to restart the vehicle. 2. The brake issue continues to happen daily that the brakes will fail and not allow me to use them while in stop and go traffic. It seems to do alright on the freeway or when I am at a constant speed. They make a whooshing sound and make the brakes extremely difficult to push the brake pedal down and sometimes it will not allow me to use the brakes at all. I have taken it to 2 different mechanics and I am waiting for an appointment to go to the Ford dealership and have it checked out. The low engine oil pressure light has been going on for months. It will come on and go off quite often but it is not throwing any codes so the mechanic shops can't diagnose the issue. The brake issue is fairly recent within the last 2 weeks. I have an appointment on October 27th 2020 at 8 am for the brake and engine issue.

16 Brakes Failed problem of the 2013 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 06/16/2020

I was driving my 2013 Ford Edge and came to a stop sign (on a city street). The brakes stopped but the break petal felt "spongy". The break petal continue to go down and I heard a noise. With the break pedal still down my car started rolling. I drove straight to my mechanic. He said it was a break booster problem. He printed out customer satisfaction program 13n02 for me. I slowly drove home on back streets and almost ran through a red light because the brakes failed again. I had to constantly pump them to get it to stop. Ford has recalls on this problem but the Ford customer service (at 800-392-3673) said my vehicle was built at the oakville assembly plant in July 2013 instead of from may 3, 2010-March 28,2013 therefore my Ford is not on their recall which I feel it definitely should be.

17 Brakes Failed problem of the 2012 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 06/13/2020

This is the second time that the brakes have failed on my 2012 Ford Edge. The symptoms are identical, so I expect the problem to be in the brake booster. The brakes worked properly until the failure. Suddenly the brake pedal went down to the floor but the brakes were not not applied. Both occurrences were in June, but 4 years apart. The first occurrence was at 31,500 km and the second at 85,400 km. The booster failure is a very serious problem and should warrant a recall.

18 Brakes Failed problem of the 2010 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 05/23/2020

On (4) four separate occasions the vehicles brake system failed while driving.

20 Brakes Failed problem of the 2013 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 01/12/2020

In September 2014, Ford has issued a "customer satisfaction" notice regarding the extended warranty on brake function component. Notice id :13n02. The issue was possibility of break booster premature failure leading to unpredictable braking performance. There are 2 significant issues with this notice: 1. The part that fails is a major safety issue and should have been treated with immediate recall instead of an extended warranty offering - as the failure of this part leads to unpredictable braking performance at an unpredictable time frame. 2. It only covers vehicles produced between certain dates, while the real extent of faulty brake system component goes way beyond the scope covered in this notice. I own a 2013 Ford Edge truck with production date of 06/13. The mileage on this vehicle is under 58000. About a week ago the braking function of this car has failed significantly leading to a near crash situation. This happened when I was driving closer to a traffic stop at about 20 mph and started gradually applying brakes and to my surprise the car kept on moving without any noticeable braking applied. Realizing that, I pressed the pedal much harder to a degree that would be close to activating abs and only then the car came to a hard stop. After experiencing this I started researching online and have learned about Ford's notice of extended warranty on brake booster part failure - 13n02. I had exactly the same symptoms as described in this bulletin. Upon visiting dealership, they refused to service my car under this extended warranty as my car was just outside the production dates covered by 13n02. Upon further research, I have learned that this issue impacted a much larger number of Ford Edge 2013 owners, whose safety concerns are plainly ignored by Ford motor company same as is my case. Both dealership and the Ford hotline refused to anything about it.

21 Brakes Failed problem of the 2013 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 11/21/2019

Tl the contact owns a 2013 Ford Edge. While driving various speeds and attempting to depress the brake pedal, an abnormal hissing noise was heard coming from the brakes. The contact had to apply excessive pressure to the brake pedal for the brakes to engage properly. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was determined that the brake booster failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. Beach Ford (2717 virginia beach blvd, virginia beach, va 23452, (757) 486-2717) was contacted and confirmed that the VIN was not included in a recall. The manufacturer was contacted and referred the contact to NHTSA to file a complaint. The failure mileage was 94,005.

22 Brakes Failed problem of the 2011 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 11/14/2019

Brakes intermittently go all the way to floor with no warning while driving on city streets (traveling straight). Car does not stop. Brake failure has happened twice recently, once when going over a railroad track (big bump), and once for no apparent reason. Took to Ford, and it took them a day to look at the vehicle, and they could not reproduce the issue. They checked all the parts of the brake system and could not find any issue.

23 Brakes Failed problem of the 2008 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 10/23/2019

While driving with my 6 month old son in the car, I couldn't stop using my brakes! I almost crashed!! I looked up the symptoms online and everyone is complaining about this issue. It seems the brake booster fails and the brakes do not work!!! the other issue I have seen, hundreds of people complaining about rear tail lights blowing out and when changing out the bulbs, the bulb sockets are burnt and melted! mine are the same, burnt up and melted. It is a fire hazard waiting to happen!!.

Failure Date: 10/21/2019

Brakes have failed twice on this vehicle in driveway.

26 Brakes Failed problem of the 2013 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 10/11/2019

Brake booster failure causing decreased stopping power. Ford released a bulletin 13n02 covering this vehicle up until March of 2013. Vehicle was manufactured in July of 2013 at same plant. Calling them, they stated that they will not cover. My vehicle has 128k miles on it and they offered an extended warranty on the bulletin for 10 years 150000 miles due to the high rate of failures and safety issues. Dealership and Ford customer care are unwilling to acknowledge that the problem continued longer than their cut off dates. The vehicle was in motion at the time of failure at highway speeds of 60mph . During traffic, as the brakes booster failed during normal stopping in congested traffic, my wife had to swerve to avoid the car in front of her as she pumped her brakes to try to stop the vehicle. Fortunately her experience allowed her to avoid an accident. The local service station, found that the booster had failed, but was a few months out from Fords supplement date. I'm asking that the NHTSA review the problem and will be saving parts and service repairs for further information if needed.

27 Brakes Failed problem of the 2013 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 09/30/2019

Vacuum brake booster needs to be replaced. I went to drive my car, backing out of my driveway, and immediately the brakes were extremely hard to push on. Luckily I was backing out of my garage, but my brakes failed, and I had to hit the emergency brake to make the car stop. I had a 1 year old in the car, and this is a huge safety issue. Also, I had noticed earlier that when I was in drive, but sitting at a light, the car would shake. A minute later, the car died.

28 Brakes Failed problem of the 2012 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 09/18/2019

Breaks are hard and then go to the floor. Break flued seems to be leaking from the break booster. My wife inherited this vehicle from her mother who has parkinson disease and can no longer drive. She took ownership on or about August 19, 2019. She has complained about the breaks, but the problems seemed to come and go. Over the past 2 days the brakes failed several times with her narrowly avoiding major accidents. As she attempted to stop at lights in a 45 mph zone in the city of flower mound TX. The car is not safe to drive. Millage is currently 11,1030.

30 Brakes Failed problem of the 2010 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 08/14/2019

I was driving in the city and as I slowed coming to a stop light I pressed the brake and it was hard and wasn't stopping. I got it stopped. I headed home and a car was suddenly stopping in front of me, I stepped on the pedal and it went to the floorboard I had to pump to get it to catch I had to swerve into the next lane to avoid an accident. As I pulled into driveway and pressed on brake if hissed and chirped, this is very dangerous, I only have 66,000 miles on my car. Why has Ford not been recalled on this matter from all the complaint out there about this all the way back to 2007? my husband is a car guy and he said it was the brake booster failing. Descriptions from other complaints and mechanical information comfirmed it. Along with Fords attempt to minimize the large problem on all Edge vehicles with an extended warranty on the brake booster on some vehicles # 13no2 and in complaints on this site.

31 Brakes Failed problem of the 2013 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 08/12/2019

Tl the contact owns a 2013 Ford Edge. The contact stated that the brake booster system failed to operate. The contact heard an air leak sound while depressing the brake pedal. The brake pedal also felt hard and was difficult to depress. The contact drove to an independent mechanic and was informed of an unknown recall regarding the brake booster. The contact also drove to frank fletcher Ford (3015 turkey creek rd, joplin, mo 64801, 417-429-4495) where it was determined that the VIN was not included in a recall. The dealer provided a cost estimate for the repairs. The contact then spoke with the manufacturer who also stated that the VIN was not included in a recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 165,000.

32 Brakes Failed problem of the 2013 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 07/25/2019

The brakes became mushy and lost all stopping ability while driving almost causing me to run into vehicles in front of me. The Ford dealer informs me that the brake booster has failed and it will cost $950. 00 to repair/replace. The dealer also informed me that while there is a recall on this exact problem on the 2013 Ford Edge, my VIN number is not included. My vehicle only has approximately 45 thousand miles on it and only driven by my wife and I in and around the local area. . . We are both in our 70s. While researching this issue I found that there are literally hundreds of brake booster failures on the 2013 Ford Edge that are exactly like the failure I experienced. So why would my VIN number be excluded from the recall. Obviously this is a defective brake system and should be repaired at no cost to me.

33 Brakes Failed problem of the 2013 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 07/20/2019

Brakes started losing grip as I entered a 4-way stop. Car barely stopped and brakes worked intermittently after. Brake booster failed. An extremely common problem on Ford Edge cars. Mine missed the chance to be covered under extended warranty by one! month. Lucky the car stopped, unlucky that it was an expensive fix.

34 Brakes Failed problem of the 2011 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 07/19/2019

Brake booster failure.

35 Brakes Failed problem of the 2013 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 07/17/2019

A day ago as I was driving my 2013 Ford Edge, I noticed that it took more effort to press the brake pedal and went almost to the floor. When I did this it made a hissing and squeak sound. I brought the vehicle in to be checked at a Ford dealership in delaware. They told me it is the brake booster and will need to be replaced. They told me the cost would be $1100. I found a Ford customer service bulletin #13n02 that specifically explains what I am having repaired. This bulletin affects 2010 to 2013 Ford Edge for 10 years or 150,000 miles. I was told by the dealership my Edge VIN is not on the list. I called Ford and they are looking into it but they need to cover this as I was told can pose a dangerous situation of the brakes failing.
