37 Brakes Failed problem of the 2012 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 07/09/2019

Intermittent brake failure. First occurrence on 7/9/19. Most recent, today, 9/17/19. No warning lights, system shows brakes are ok, fluid level is continually perfect. Absolutely no warning. You go to apply brakes and it suddenly goes straight to the floor. First 3 occurrences I was able to pump the brakes hard 3-6 times and it gradually went back to normal. 4th time resulted in brake failure multiple times over a 2-3 mile period, continually pumping brakes. They would start to stiffen up, be spongy, fall to the floor again, stiffen up, fail, spongy, etc. This is a serious safety issue and there appears to be numerous complaints about this. How many crashes or deaths will it take to hold the manufacturer accountable? this needs to be investigated thoroughly, the issue needs to be determined and corrected prior to the loss of life or serious injury. Previous complaints show costly repairs with no result of the issue being corrected. All 4 instances of brake failure I have experienced I was in motion, on a county road, three instances of turning and one going straight.

38 Brakes Failed problem of the 2010 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 07/02/2019

Known issue customer satisfaction program 13n02 for failed brake booster. Ours failed and Ford states it is not covered. Car is under 10 years old and under 150,000 miles. Their own program states these brake boosters fail on this make, model and year yet they get away without fixing it due to my VIN falling outside the covered vehicles. Not sure how a known safety issue like this that leads to unsafe driving while the problem develops and is realized is not mandated into a recall. It is slightly noticable at first so we kept driving the vehicle. After a number of close calls due to the brakes not applying when pressing the brake pedal, we took it in to north country Ford in coon rapids mn and they confirmed the brake booster needs to be replaced.

This defect is known to the manufacturer who issued customer satisfaction program 13n02 which allowed replacement of the defective product for vehicles with up to 150,000 miles or through January 15, 2015. This problem presents a dangerous situation, particularly when backing the vehicle when the problem is more prominent. Ford dealership was contacted with regards to the complaint and stated that due to the mileage that the repair would not be covered by the 13n02 repair or other programs. The repair cost is quoted by Ford at approximately $710. 37.

41 Brakes Failed problem of the 2010 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 06/06/2019

The brake booster is failing, causing me to nearly read end people. The peddle is very hard and needs to be pushed to the floor in order to stop. Ford has a customer satisfaction warranty on this part however, Ford has declined service, stating that the warranty has expired. I want this part replaced at no charge to me.

42 Brakes Failed problem of the 2013 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 05/31/2019

Brakes were not working effectively - spongy feeling and brake fluid was low. Took into the shop and it was diagnosed with a power brake booster failure. Did some research and this part is a known issue for the model and year of my car but not for my VIN. Technician was reluctant to let me drive off the lot as this is very dangerous. Not sure why Ford has only chosen to replace some of these parts that it knows are faulty. Mileage is 72k.

45 Brakes Failed problem of the 2012 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 05/16/2019

Vehicle purchased 12 Feb 2012. At 8,344 miles, vehicle was checked into the service department at shamaley Ford, el paso, TX because power brakes were not working on an intermittent basis. Complaint reads: "brake pedal hard and when pumping goes very low. " service department comment: "cause: booster not working at times. 2005a brake booster assembly . . . Replace bt4z*2005*a booster asy - brake" now at 65,495 (16 may 2019), the same condition exists. Not involved in a collision, but a few times the vehicle came too close to other cars before stopping. Occurs consistently after being parked, and then intermittently at highway speeds while using cruise control. Stepping on brake failed to disengage cruise control the first time, had to take the foot off the brake pedal and step on the brake hard again. Happens a city speed limits, also intermittently. Defective part? needs to be investigated, and if defective, issue a recall and hold Ford responsible for free replacement.

47 Brakes Failed problem of the 2013 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 04/25/2019

Brake booster failed causing serious decline in braking distance to a point where I felt the car was unsafe to drive. I almost got in an accident because of this. In my opinion this is a part that should never fail. Vehicle was in motion and almost rear ended someone because of the braking distance was increased by a large amount.

48 Brakes Failed problem of the 2012 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 04/18/2019

My brakes have been routinely serviced and brake booster replaced . The paddle goes all the way to floor. I just had the works done last week on April 10th 2019 . Well today we weren't so lucky. We left for vacation and in virginia we got into an accident because the brakes failed on us .

The vehicle was at the dealer awaiting further diagnostic testing. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and did not assist. The failure mileage was not available.

50 Brakes Failed problem of the 2013 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 12/10/2018

No set time the brakes fails. Goes to the floor instead of stopping and it doesn't matter what rate of speed you're traveling. Even after thinking Ford fixed it I almost got into an accident because the brakes failed. Ford fixed it by doing a flush, cost charged me a lot of money for nothing or they don't know what they're doing.

51 Brakes Failed problem of the 2012 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 11/15/2018

This is the third complaint I have filed in an attempt for this issue to be investigated. As I was pulling into my garage this evening, my brakes failed again with no warning. I narrowly missed hitting the wall. I was traveling at a low speed. My vehicle has approximately 100,000 miles on it.

52 Brakes Failed problem of the 2011 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 11/12/2018

Brake failure with pedal going all the way to the floor and vehicle would not stop. Ford is aware of the problem and will not warranty the repair of the hydraulic control unit (hcu) and cost $1,000 to replace. Why hasn't the NHTSA done something?.

53 Brakes Failed problem of the 2013 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 11/08/2018

Tl the contact owns a 2013 Ford Edge. While driving 60 mph, the vehicle failed to stop when the brake pedal was depressed. The dealer advised the contact to call the manufacturer. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and did not assist. The approximate failure mileage was 79,000.

54 Brakes Failed problem of the 2011 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 11/01/2018

At approximately 90,000 miles 2011 Ford Edge was taken in to kearny pearson Ford (san diego) for routine service and was notified of brake booster recall and that booster was replaced. At approx. 95,000 miles was driving on the highway and brakes failed and fortunately was able to swerve into median to avoid collision. The pedal too easily went all the way to the floor without slowing the vehicle. After pumping the brakes they finally engaged but took all my leg strength to press and stop the vehicle. Kearny pearson Ford inspected and found that the brake booster was not actually replaced - so they replaced per the well documented recall. About 1,500 miles later the right rear brake clips holding the pad in place fell off and kearny pearson replaced. 1,500 miles after that they fell off again to which kearny pearson replaced and attached with adhesive. Now, 2,000 miles after that I had another sudden brake failure. There was no warning or indication. While on the freeway the brake pedal would go all the way to the floor without the brakes picking up. Again needing to pump the brakes to get it to stop and only barely slowing while pedal was fully compressed to the floor. The car is not safe to continue driving. Kearny pearson has said the problem is a faulty hydraulic control braking unit that is separate from the booster recall and a $1,300 fix. I question whether the the booster was the real problem in the first place or the hydraulic control unit is the actual culprit with the booster being a cheaper scapegoat. Maybe they are not related but the failing to brake and the wheezy pedal in both cases feels eerily similar. Even after the booster recall replacement the brakes just haven't felt quite right and experienced a loose brake pedal. Ford has advised this is a standard and routine failure not subject to recall.

55 Brakes Failed problem of the 2012 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 11/01/2018

I have experience brake failure 3 times since November 2018. I have had numerous repairs such as brake booster replacement, master cylander, flushes, hcu assy replacement and my brakes still go out. All the while with my children in the car. I am scared to drive it anymore.

56 Brakes Failed problem of the 2013 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 10/25/2018

Tl the contact owns a 2013 Ford Edge. While driving, the vehicle failed to respond when the brake pedal was depressed. The driver had to apply excessive force to the brake pedal to stop the vehicle. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to team Ford Lincoln (905 brady Ave, steubenville, OH 43952, (740) 283-4131) and test driven. The dealer diagnosed that the brake booster failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and did not assist. The approximate failure mileage was 104,407.

57 Brakes Failed problem of the 2012 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 09/24/2018

8-11-2016 complete brake failure while in motion, brake pedal travels to floor with no power assist. Dealer diagnoses and replaces brake booster. 9-24-2018 complete brake failure unable to stop at highway speeds. Managed to get to safety. Pedal travels to floor no stopping. Called dealer once more, was advised to contact Ford for coverage of work as it is out of warranty. Do not want this vehicle with 2 brake failure events. Pending service case.

58 Brakes Failed problem of the 2013 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 09/24/2018

Vehicle brake not stopping as normal. Brake seems to fail - need to press hard and almost crashed.

59 Brakes Failed problem of the 2013 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 08/28/2018

When you push the brake pedal, you think you aren't going to stop, then it suddenly catches and throws on the brake, making a sudden stop. I went to Ford dealer and they say it's not covered by Ford even though many 2013 Edges are having the problem and are covered for brake booster failure. No reason for why some are covered and ours isn't. Dealer wants $450, but doesn't have brake booster parts. I am afraid to drive this car now. Called Ford customer care and they issued an extended warranty coverage #13n02 for the brake booster problems in 2013 Ford Edge & Lincoln mkx. Our VIN number, however, is not covered. Ford customer service doesn't know why ours isn't covered, but still not willing to do anything for us. We have 55,000 miles, so our regular warranty has expired.

60 Brakes Failed problem of the 2013 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 08/27/2018

Power brake booster failed. I was moving and tried to stop and had a difficult time stopping. Break peddle could not be pushed. Ford is aware of the issue (see Ford service bulletin 13n02). Although my vehicle is the same it does not fit under the service bulletin. This is a very dangerous cituation. It almost made me pull into on coming traffic. I was stopping at a stop sign before pulling on to a state road where traffic was going 55 mph. Tri- state Ford in amarillo texas confirmed the booster was bad just like described in the service bulletin 13n02. I am paying almost $600 to fix something f has acknowledged is a problem after I almost had a wreck. Why did I not get a letter to tell me of the possible problem. Why did I almost have to have a wreck to discover what Ford has known for years?.

61 Brakes Failed problem of the 2016 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 08/22/2018

Brakes failed and accident resulted.

62 Brakes Failed problem of the 2011 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 08/22/2018

My wife was driving the vehicle and when she went to stop she pressed the brakes the pedal went completely to the floor without warning. The vehicle would not stop and nearly collided with a another vehicle. Took the vehicle to Ford and found that it had a faulty abs hydraulic control unit that is allowing fluid to by pass the abs and not stop the vehicle. Vehicle had been serviced previously in 2016 for a similar brake failure issue. (between 50 and 60 thousand miles) that time it was a faulty brake booster that prevented the vehicle from being able to stop. That repair was covered under the 13n02 extended warranty 10 years and 150,000 miles. This time Ford is not standing behind a problem that could have result in a serious injury or worse.

63 Brakes Failed problem of the 2014 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 08/10/2018

While driving the vehicle on a city street came to a stop light went to push the brake pedal and it felt like the vehicle had no brakes and was not stopping. Pushed the pedal all the way to the floor and the vehicle finally came to a stop. The brake pedal felt extremely hard to push to get the brakes to stop the vehicle. Took the vehicle to the Ford dealership and they found the brake booster failed. The vehicle only has 33,874 miles currently on it.

64 Brakes Failed problem of the 2010 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 08/06/2018

The contact owns a 2010 Ford Edge. While driving 70 mph, the vehicle made an abnormal noise when depressing the brake pedal. The contact stated that the brake pedal traveled to the floorboard before the vehicle was able to stop. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer (colonial Ford, 120 federal rd #126, danbury, CT 06811, (203) 748-3503) where it was diagnosed that the brake booster failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not included in any recalls. The failure mileage was 88,400.

65 Brakes Failed problem of the 2011 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 08/02/2018

I was driving home on the highway when traffic came to an abrupt stop. I went to apply my brake but the vehicle did not slow. I had to stomp as hard as I could on the brake pedal to stop before almost colliding with another vehicle in front of me. Came within inches of the car in front of me. Once home, I put the Edge in park, I pushed the pedal very hard & heard a high pitched squealing noise. Informed by Ford this was due to the brake booster failing. I had the booster replaced previously in 2016 with the first recall and now 2 years and less than 15,000 miles later, the 2nd booster has failed. Current mileage is 74,451 and I am now about to be on my 3 booster. Ford will not cover another break booster even though each should last somewhere around 100,000 miles. I spoke with service dept and was advised the recall replaced booster is only guaranteed for 1 year or 12,000 miles whichever comes first. Service tech said he couldn't do anything about the issue due to Ford's policy. So glad the safety of my family's life is good for 1 year/12,000 with my 3rd break booster being installed at my expense today. No warnings no nothing, Edge just wouldn't stop. Not sure how many people will have to be hurt before someone will do something. Ford is aware of the problem but it's cheaper for them to pay a lawsuit settlement than to fix the issue. I'm so glad I bought a Ford so that I can shell out $800+ every 2 years for another brake booster if I'm lucky enough to survive finding out it's failed again.

66 Brakes Failed problem of the 2013 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 07/24/2018

The brake booster failed inspection for total parts and labor cost of $672. Some 2013 Ford Edges were recalled for this but not mine. I called Ford motor company to inquire but once I stated my question, representative hung up. I tried calling back but no one picked up. I want to know why my specific Edge was not included when it obviously should have been.

67 Brakes Failed problem of the 2012 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 07/20/2018

Brakes failed without any warning. My speed was approximately 35 mph. They failed when I was attempting to slow down for an upcoming stop sign. Thankfully, no vehicles were coming the other way. The odometer was ~48,600. I was not told of any extended warranty on the power booster when I bought the vehicle used from a Ford dealership in erie PA in 2015. I had the vehicle towed to my mechanic. They diagnosed the issue as a failure of the power booster. He replaced with an after factory part as I was reluctant to replace with a Ford part due to issue caused by a faulty Ford part. It cost me $406. 34 total including labor and the part, no towing charge as I used my aaa membership. A few weeks later I mentioned the problem to a male friend who suggested I check the Ford website which I did. I discovered this part was known to be faulty and there was an extended warranty on it. I then contacted the local Ford dealership where I bought it from, they said I'd have to contact corp. Ford. I did and got the run around between corporate and local dealership despite having provided a lot of documentation. No one wanted to reimburse me for this problem. I proved the local dealership never made me aware of extended warranty either at the time of purchase or later. The original salesperson no longer worked there. Had I been informed by Ford of this problem, I would have then known to go to the dealership when it happened instead of my local mechanic. There was no reason why Ford couldn't have supplied this to me except for employee failure. The car was a Ford, its VIN in Ford's system and the extended warranty was issues before I purchased the vehicle. . .

68 Brakes Failed problem of the 2013 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 07/12/2018

Each time I pressed the brake pedal to stop my 2013 Ford Edge on city streets and on interstates, the brake made a hissing sound and was difficult to push to stop my vehicle. I noticed the problem June 21 2018 shortly before going out of town. Upon returning, I made an appointment at a local Ford dealership for July 12. The service department employee told me that the brake booster had to be replaced. My vehicle's computer system showed that my brakes were okay, so this major repair of $732 surprised me. After researching the Ford customer satisfaction program 13no2, I discovered my vehicle wasn't included in this extended warranty for brake boosters. The Edge manufacturing cut off date was March 28, 2013 and my Edge was manufactured may 2, 2013. I contacted the Ford customer service department to express concern that my Edge exhibited the same braking problems as those that were covered in the extended warranty program. I was assigned a case number and was told my case was escalated to the service manager who would review it. My receipt from the dealership states that the brake booster was faulty and I called Ford's customer service department when the repair was complete. I was told that Ford would not assist me financially with all or part of the cost to replace the brake booster. Because of my research, I know I am not the only 2013 Ford Edge owner whose faulty brake booster has had to be replaced at the owners' expense. The brake booster failure is a safety hazard for the vehicle driver as well as others on the roads. I have included a scan of my repair receipt and a scan of the chat I had with the Ford customer service representative.

69 Brakes Failed problem of the 2008 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 07/10/2018

Yesterday, the vehicle did not stop when it was supposed to stop. I depressed the brakes, but needed to apply excessive force and they made a hissing sound. The vehicle slowly coasted to a stop. It was a terrifying incident, especially since I have a 5 year old son. The Ford dealership confirmed that the brake booster had failed. I see that this is a recall on the 2010 and newer Edge, which uses the same part. I feel that this should also be a recall in the earlier models, as it is a huge safety issue. The vehicle is currently in the shop awaiting repair, which will cost me in excess of $500. I am not pleased.

70 Brakes Failed problem of the 2007 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 07/10/2018

While driving on a straight roadway, I applied the brakes to come to a stop and had to apply extreme pressure to get the vehicle to slow down and come to a dead stop. My 105 lb. Daughter could not have stopped this vehicle in time and would have crashed. I drove slowly to my repair shop, where the mechanic checked the brakes and advised me that the power brake booster had failed and needed to be replaced. He advised me to report this serious and possibly deadly problem to Ford and the federal safety board.
