I was driving home from work when my car suddenly lost power and started to shake. I was driving on a suberban street and was literally at a active railroad crossing when it happened. So I stopped the car. I was able to drive it slowly to a safe place to pullover. The car was spitting out fire chunks out of the exhaust. I had no idea what was happening. I had it towed to the dealership who explained the power train control module malfunctioned wich cause it to melt/seize the coils in 3 if the cylinders. I have a power train warranty but was told none of it would be covered? when researching this issue it seems to be a very common issue with this model of vehicle. Its not only a safety issue, but it's a known defect with Ford vehicles, not just my make and model. I am extremely upset bcz I can not afford the costs it will take to repair. I owned this car for less than 2 years. I take it it and have it routinely serviced. There was nothing I could have done to prevent this. It's a defect and it is a unsafe defect. I was in the middle of driving and it just happened out of nowhere.

We've been experiencing an intermittent exhaust and sulfur odor in the cabin of our vehicle since we purchased it last July. The odor is present while running and parked, while idling at stop lights, while coasting along with traffic on the freeway, while accelerating or not, speed does not seem to matter. The fumes and odor have gotten stronger and have become so strong that we can't even drive the vehicle with the windows down. Our whole family has experienced headaches and severe nausea while riding in the car on both long and short trips. My daughter almost passed out on a recent hour long drive. We brought the vehicle to the service center twice now. The first time they replaced the cabin air filter. The vehicle is currently at the dealer service center. After we mentioned the sulfur smell we were told they would have to contact Ford motor company hq and open a case.

Every time I accelerate hard to reach highway speeds, the exhaust leaks into the cabin causing breathing problems and drowsiness. This is a common issue and the Ford dealership does not seem to want to cover the costs of this safety issue.

The low beam headlights are so weak that when the road is wet at night or when driving near ambient lighting such as street lights you can't see any markings on the road such as the centerline of the road. There is also exhaust fumes coming into the car when driving with the windows up or slightly rolled down and when the climate control system is in recirculating mode. These fumes make me dizzy and cause me to have blurry vision. I almost completely blacked out twice already and I owned this car for three weeks. I didn't know that Ford Edge had these problems and the salesman of course never mentioned them. These problems with the exhaust happen while driving slowly under 20 mph and at higher speeds on the highway when the recirculating mode is on with or without the air conditioning turned on. I have driven with the climate control totally off and still the fumes come inside the car. It's as if the body of the car is creating a vacuum that pulls the exhaust back into the car because I can have to climate system off and the windows open and exhaust gets sucked in. This car is s $36,000 death trap and I paid the full price so I'm screwed.

When merging onto the interstate and you accelerate and go from approximately 40 mph to 75 pmh there is always a smoking -burning smell coming out of the a/c exhaust vents inside the passenger compartment of the car. I had an explorer before and it did the same thing. I thought my engine was going to blow up even though it only had approximately 30k miles on it so I traded it. Now this Edge is doing the same thing . . . Is this an ongoing problem that is trying to be repaired soon. I asked if the 2018's had this problem the the Ford dealership said yes. Same thing happens when I pass someone on a regular highway any time you accelerate your speed from a lower speed to a higher one. Thanks.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Edge. While driving various speeds, the contact observed an abnormal odor within the cabin without warning. In addition, the contact and the passenger (his wife) experienced a chemical taste within their mouths, burning in their throats, and headaches. The vehicle was taken to the dealer (diehl's Ford sales 11782 national pike, grantsville, MD, 21536). The contact was informed of TSB 17-0035 (engine and engine cooling). The dealer conducted a smoke test and diagnosed that the exhaust spoiler over the rear hatch seals failed. With the air conditioner on recirculation mode, the vehicle re-absorbed the exhaust fumes into the cabin. The dealer repaired the spoiler, and seals, and asked the contact to test drive the vehicle. The remedy failed. Due to test driving the vehicle three times per the dealer, the contact had to go to the hospital to receive medical attention. The hospital stated that the contact received carbon monoxide poisoning according to a blood test. The results were not severe, but the physician recommended to avoid the vehicle, breathe fresh air, and get plenty of rest. The dealer still had the vehicle and, thirty days later, a remedy still could not be provided after multiple attempts. The manufacturer was contacted and made aware of the failure the same day that the vehicle was taken to the dealer. The manufacturer provided case number: 12525112. The manufacturer was unable to diagnose the vehicle fewer than three attempts within thirty days. The contact asked for the vehicle to be bought back under the lemon law. The failure mileage was 1,500.

When I accelerate to highway speed I get an exhaust smell inside the passenger compartment. I have been to my dealer 4 times and the problem continues. I believe that this is a health issue. I am uploading my service records for your perusal. This began in may 2016 and continues to the present (12/2017).
The contact owns a 2011 Ford Edge. While driving various speeds, the contact noticed exhaust fumes in the vehicle. The failure recurred on numerous occasions. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 53,000. The VIN was unavailable.
Exhaust in cabin way beyond permissible limits from day 1. I suspected the firewall was allowing exhaust into interior, but then I started suspecting the rear was allowing exhaust in due to an air eddy recirculating behind the vehicle allowing exhaust into the cabin via lower rear door seal not sealing tight enough via the automated door closure not sufficiently forming a seal.
The contact owns a 2014 Ford Edge. While driving 30 mph, the contact noticed fuel and exhaust fumes coming from the air vents of the vehicle. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure recurred on numerous occasions. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 15.
Under hard acceleration a strong odor of exhaust is smelled inside the cabin. Windows up and makes no difference if a/c is on or off or in the recirculation mode.
The contact owns a 2014 Ford Edge. While accelerating the vehicle, an exhaust odor entered the vehicle. The dealer was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The VIN was unknown. The approximate failure mileage was 37,000.
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Edge. While driving various speeds and passing other vehicles, the contact noticed a strong odor of exhaust fumes inside the vehicle when the accelerator pedal was depressed. The vehicle was taken to jacky jones Ford of hayesville (1493 us-64, hayesville, nc 28904, 828-389-6325), but could not be diagnosed. The service technician suggested that the source of the odor could be that the rear spoiler was holding exhaust fumes. The rear spoiler was resealed with sealant. The contact stated that the issue persisted and the vehicle was taken back to the dealer. The service manger was advised by the Ford corporate office to seal all the holes, especially by bolts where any odor could enter the vehicle from underneath. The holes were sealed, but fumes still entered the vehicle. The manufacturer was notified many times by the contact, but no further assistance was offered. The contact was referred to NHTSA. The failure mileage was 19,905.
Under hard acceleration or wide open throttle the inside cabin of the vehicle is over come by an exhaust like smell. The vehicle has done this since it was new, thinking it was from the engine breaking in I never thought twice about it. Now after more than six months of having the vehicle and more than 8,000 miles, this is more than new car break in smell. The smell occurs 100% of the time under hard acceleration or wide open throttle, with or without the ac on or in ac recycle mode. From the forums that I have read, the owners of Ford Edge's and Ford explorer's with the 3. 5l v6 are experiencing the exact same issue that I am. The smell is overwhelming to all passengers that ride in the vehicle. The main concern is that the smell is dangerous to breath in and second that it's very annoying to smell all the time.
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Edge. While driving approximately 60 mph, exhaust fumes emitted inside the vehicle. The contact stated that the failure recurred numerous times and without warning. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, but was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The VIN was unavailable. The failure mileage was 100.
The contact owns a 2011 Ford Edge. While driving at approximately 65 mph and accelerating, the contact noticed an exhaust smell emitting from the rear of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostics four different times. The technicians stated the smell was caused by fuel bypassing the catalytic converter. The technicians stated there was no repair to resolve the smell emitted in the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 1,695.
I am having what may be a very serious health/hazard issue with my 2008 Ford Edge. The problem is when you drive the vehicle oil is leaking from the transmission/ptu seal on to the muffler/leadpipe,burning ,and sending toxic fumes through the fresh air system. I had to pull over today to air the vehicle out, in which it has left me sick from the burning fumes. When sitting oil is leaking onto the ground. I have contacted my Ford dealer, in which they have attempted to repair with Ford updated seals. The issue that I am dealing with is what I believe is a serious health risk to the driver or passengers of this vehicle. I ask for your assistance in this matter.
