2018 Ford Edge leaking coolant into cylinders 2 and 3. We have been told the engine has to be replaced, Ford has known about this problem for a long time and will not fix even though its proven their design was faulty, very frustrating.

Check engine light came on so I made an appointment and drove the vehicle to peoria Ford. They said code p0302 in pcm, found TSB for concern 22-2229, pressure test cooling system found coolant leaking from cylinder 2, recommend address TSB and retest this could cause a misfire, overheat, or vehicle to catch fire.
Car was misfiring and rough starting with white smoke out of the exhaust. Took it to my service advisor and was told there was issue with the coolant leaking into the engine and that I would need a new engine. They used a temporary fix with a k-seal until we decided on what to do. I recently searched about this issue online and found out that this leak could cause the car to overheat and catch fire which is a significant safety issue. I also found out that Ford had a recall on this on ecoboost type engine with other models. I called my Ford dealership and Ford customer care and they are not showing a recall. My car is in great shape and has 108,000 miles. Reading the amount of complaints online about the same Ford Edge 2. 0 ecoboost engine problems and the danger with the risk of fire should be cause for this to be an immediate recall in which Ford should be accountable.

My 2017 Ford Edge with a 4 cylinder 2. 0 ecoboost engine and 81,000 miles needs a new engine, as per my local Ford dealer. I recently had coolant leak into the engine through the cylinders. All preventative maintenance work, including oil changes, have been done when required. Daytona beach automall dealership tells me the vehicle is out of warranty and totally my responsibility to replace the engine at a cost of approximately $5500. This problem exists with Ford ecoboost engines all over the country and Ford has been aware of it for years. No recalls have been made since many of these problems occur after the warranty has expired and then it's the customers responsibility. Ford motor company is not taking responsibility for their product when they have known for some time that they have problems with the ecoboost engine.
I have had my 2019 Ford Edge at the dealership twice with a collant problem. They have put my Edge on their analsis machine and checked for leaks with anything pertaining to the coolant. They have not found anything as to why it is leaking or evaporating. The dealership told me there was a coolant Ford used in some 2019s models that was evaporating quickly and was discontinued in use. Ive had to have them drain the old coolant out and have it replaced but since it is not covered under warranty ive had to pay out of pocket for the cost. Im attaching 2 photos 1 taken in Dec and 1 taken in Jan.

My engine light came on. Upon starting my car, it?s basa rough idle for a few seconds before going to normal. Code was ran an it was determined to be a cylinder 2 misfire. My heat had quit working. I looked under the hood and the coolant tank was early empty. I refilled it. A few days later, the light came on while driving saying over temperature. Checked again and coolant tank was almost empty again. Had it looked at and there was no sign of an external leak. Upon searching, I came across newson law in nashville who has a potential law suit against Ford because of so many complaints for this exact issue in 2016-2018 Edge with 1. 5 or 2. 0 ecoboost. Mine is a 2. 0. All of the reviews I have read on this issue are the exact same issues happening. Most of which are happening after the warranty has ran out. This is the case for me.
My 2018 Ford Edge had the check engine light illuminate recently one morning when I started the engine. The engine had a rough idle/chugging and white smoke from the exhaust that also occurred when the engine light illuminated. I shut the engine down, and restarted the engine to see if the issue would replicate, which it did, but not as extreme. I had taken my vehicle into the local Ford dealership about six prior to this incident for a faulty fuel valve, and the Ford Edge acted the same way, except that the vehicle engine would also chug after refueling, which it didn't do with this current issue. With this most recent case, I took the Ford Edge to the dealership for diagnosis at 10am several days later because they didn't have any immediate availability. The service manager told me at 430pm that afternoon they couldn't replicate the issue, but wanted to keep the vehicle overnight for further testing. At 130pm the following afternoon, I was told the engine would need to be replaced because coolant had leaked into the engine. Apparently, Ford has issued a TSB about this issue for Ford Edges from 2015-2018, and other models, but they haven't issued a recall. I was told the dealership had submitted a claim to the corporate office for a full engine replacement, and since this was a known issue, they didn't see any issues with it being approved. I have been told it will be some time, no guarantees, as to when I will have my Ford Edge returned since there are other Ford Edge's with this issue.
Coolant leaking into engine.
At roughly 77,500 miles our engine starting misfiring both while stationary and in motion. The check engine light came on. We pulled code p0305, indicating cylinder #2 misfire. We replaced the coils and spark plugs and the engine continued to misfire. We then began hearing fluid moving behind our dash board and noticed that the coolant tank was low but no visible coolant leak was found. We took the car to a local Ford dealer's service center (woodhouse Ford - omaha, ne) for inspection and diagnosis. They confirmed that engine coolant was leaking into cylinder #2, causing the misfire. It was also leaking into the heating element, causing a putrid smell in the cab of the vehicle and the rushing fluid sound behind the dashboard. They confirmed this is related to Ford TSB 19-2346. Ford stated that the repair requires a $6300 replacement engine and they are not liable for the damage to the engine as a result of their defect. Per the TSB, this engine defect may result in engine fires but fortunately it did not get to this point for us.
My 2016 Ford Edge sel recently displayed a check engine light and the vehicle was loosing coolant without leakage under vehicle. The error code presented was p0304. Upon pressure testing coolant was found to be leaking into the 4th cylinder, and causing a misfire. The vehicle is less than 5 years old and Ford is claiming the only solution is a complete engine replacement for more than 7k.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Edge. The contact stated she was unable to start-up the vehicle. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact stated later that day she started the vehicle using the spare key. The contact stated that white smoke exited the rear of the vehicle. The contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact drove to her destination. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and the contact was informed that the head gasket allowed coolant to leak into cylinder number 2. Vic bailey Ford (501 e daniel morgan Ave, spartanburg, SC 29302, (864) 585-3600) was contacted and made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 75,000.
Around 70,000 miles my check engine light came on. My car has also been shaking upon acceleration, which has been up to this point, unable to be diagnosed. I took my car into a Ford dealership, and they said that coolant was leaking into cylinder 4, and that the whole engine will need to be replaced. They also said this is a known issue with this vehicle.
Engine light came on checked it with diagnostic reader at o'reilly's, indicated cylinder #4 was misfiring. Heater stopped working. Checked coolant it was very low. Filled coolant reservoir. Next time drove vehicle engine got hot. Pulled over immediately and checked coolant it was empty not leaking. Research indicates this is happening to a lot of people and could be very dangerous only fix is to replace motor. Ford Edge 2015.

My 2018 Ford Edge threw a code p0301. Which is a misfire in cylinder 1. Coolant leaking into block and started throwing a lot of white smoke out from the exhaust. Took the vehicle to the dealer and after their diagnostic and a few questions to me Ford is needing to replace the motor. The vehicle was difficult to start each morning and the hen the motor was off for a while. Eventually it would start. Other then the check engine light and the white smoke out the exhaust I noticed no performance loss.
Car engine idles rough and white smoke comes out of exhaust. The check engine light came on while I was driving 20 miles per hour on my town road and I took it to the mechanic he said the coolant is leaking into cylinder head number 2. We had to fill the coolant reservoir because it was very low.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Edge. The contact stated while driving 30 mph, the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact continued driving with no other issues. The following day when the vehicle was started, the vehicle shuddered. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the spark plugs needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken back to the same local dealer to be diagnosed a second time. The contact was informed that coolant leaked into the engine block and the engine needed to be repaired or replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 71,000.
On my 2017 Ford Edge the epb motor and abs module went out at 62,000 miles resulting in brakes dragging and very difficult to release the parking brake with the danger of locking up while driving. Also the engine is a 4 cylinder 2 liter ecoboost and has been leaking coolant into cylinder number 2 causing coolant level to drop and the engine misfiring eventually leading to a engine warning light. Ford has issued a service bulletin to look out for these problems. The only remedy is engine replacement at a cost of at least $8,000. 00. Ford has been aware of these problems for quite a long time but has not issued a recall and will not help with the cost of repair. I believe my engine had this problem before the powertrain warranty expired at 60,000 miles. I am not a mechanic and did not notice the problem until my check engine light came on at approx. 61,500 miles. I think Ford should bear the responsibility of engine replacement as the engine has failed before 62,000 miles. A car engine should last much longer. After doing research I have seen complaints of dozens of similar cases of the ecoboost engines having the same problem and beleive it has a design flaw.
Check engine light came in. Took car for repair was told it was the spark plugs. Week later check engine came back in. Was told it was misfire codes then cleared. Week later (3rdweek in row) heard swooshing sound like liquid running towards the front of car where the heat vents located and check engine back on with car gas mileage decreasing from 147 miles to 25 miles during a 5 min ride to dealership. Told low coolant and coolant leaking into engine thus destroying engine. Entire engine needs to be replaced. Car has 42000 miles on it.
Dealership tells me the vehicle is out of warranty and totally my responsibility to replace the engine at a cost of approximately $8,500.
Diagnostic done by Ford identified that cylinders 1 and 3 misfire. The engine assembly has an internal coolant leak at cylinders 1 and 3. There is coolant intrusion at cylinders 1 and 3. A class action lawsuit has been filed against Ford regarding this ecoboost engine. My car stalls and cannot exceed 60 mph. The resolution is the replacement of the long block. Ford hasn't issued a recall for the 2. 0 l engine but has issued several technical service bulletins.
Check engine light came on. Took car to dealership for diagnostic. Coolant leaking into #2 cylinder -- 88,000 miles on the car and it requires a total engine replacement. Dealership estimate of $9,000 to fix.
The contact owns a 2018 Ford Edge. The contact stated that the vehicle leaking coolant unto the engine causing the engine to fractured. The contact stated that she noticed the failure while the vehicle was smoking and was driving erratically. The engine warning light illuminated. The contact mention that the vehicle was undriverble. The vehicle was taken to university Ford durham, 5001 durham-chapel hill blvd, durham, nc 27707, and was diagnosed that coolant leaking into the engine and had fractured the engine. The mechanic informed the contact that a new engine needed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to NHTSA. The failure mileage was approximately 69,747.
Engine coolant leaking into the engine block caused the vehicle to come to a grinding halt on the highway. The vehicle alerted to low engine coolant roughly 30 seconds prior to losing drive power. The vehicle has approximately 42000 miles on it. There was smoke coming from the exhaust that smelled of burnt coolant and smoke coming from under the front hood, but no fire.
Had oil changed at dealership in Dec 2020and advised of low coolant. Tech checked no leaks found. March 2021 check engine light came on code p0301, misfire in cyl 1. Had new spark plugs put in. Drove 500 miles, code came back. Swapped coil pack from cyl 1 and 2, drove another 450 miles code came back. Had injectors checked, all ok. Car started having a slow sluggish start to it. Noticed coolant was empty. Refilled, within a day empty. Took to shop and coolant in cylinders.
Car has 69,000 miles. Check engine light has come on. Was told a new engine is needed because coolant is leaking into the cylinders. Thousands of the same complaint and now we are told we need a new engine on a car that is barely three years old and of course out of warranty. Why has not one thing been done to resolve this with Ford. Had we known we were buying a lemon we would have never purchased this vechicle. Ford knows this is a problem and they have done nothing to rectify the defect in the product they put out on the market. We have no recourse here and what Ford has done borders on illegal to have a known probem with no recourse for the consumers.
Car engine light turned on with only 48k miles and Ford stated my car needs a new engine due to being improperly made and coolant leaking into engine.
I was driving my son to his father's house and my car literally died while it was moving. Thankfully I was close to the house and we were not on a major street or highway, but it took several times for it to start again so that we could move it out of the way. I took the car to a Ford dealer and there is coolant leaking into the engine and now requires a new long engine block which will cost me almost $7,000 and an additional $1,000 for a rental car, as I am a single mom. I was on my way to work and could have been driving on the highway when this happened. I'm lucky that I wasn't.
I have what appears to be a coolant leak with any warning whatsoever I purchased the car used (one owner) 3 months ago.
Check engine light appeared. The 2016 Ford Edge brought in to check after no particular coolant problem diagnosed the car was brought in again when it was diagnosed with a coolant leaking into the engine . Replacement cost $8250. After extensive negotiating with Ford they offered a %55 help of $4590. This leaves me with &3660 cost to fix an engine on a car the I still owe$9880. As a retired couple buying in good faith a brand new car valued at $40000 and expecting it to last for many many years. This long standing problem with this Ford engine should be recalled and not cause such worry and stress for the good faith consumers.
Frst noticed in November the car would not generate heat while at idle. This prevented defrosting of windshield. Noticed heat would return at higher revs, but this also decreased. Noticed fluid level was low added antifreeze and heat returned somewhat but not at idle. Car has 36,200 miles, just off warranty. This is an obvious safety hazard since drivingin winter requires a functioning defroster. Local mechanic noted that check engine light for misfire of cylinder #1 indicated a head gasket leak which was where my coolant was disappearing. There are no signs of outward leaks, or a oder of coolant in the cabin from the heat core. It is now January, and I cannot drive the car due to lack of heat and risk of damage to the engine. Emailed my dealer, but as of yet no response.
I was turning left from a stop sign across two lanes of oncoming traffic. When I was clear I pressed the gas and the vehicle began to move. Prior to clearing the two lanes of oncoming traffic, the vehicle stalled and would not restart. This left me sitting in the middle of oncoming traffic and unable to get out of the way. I was not hit thankfully but this could be a serious issue in another situation. This has happened multiple times with the car stalling but this is the first time where the situation left me in danger. This stalling is due to a misfiring cylinder because engine coolant is leaking into the engine. Ford has stated that the long block needs to be replaced and that it would cost approximately $9,000. As the problem occurred right after the 60,000 mile warranty ended, they refuse to be held accountable despite the issue being a manufacturing defect. Sooner or later someone will be hurt or possibly killed because of this issue. Is it going to take someone dying to get a justifiable recall issued for this problem?.
Vehicle began to idle roughly upon cold start, after a few minutes it would idle normally. After a few weeks the check engine light came on. Took to dealer for diagnosis and repair. Was told that the engine needed to be replaced. They said it will take several weeks before they receive a new engine. We were not offered a loaner vehicle, we had to ask for a loaner vehicle. Our vehicle has approximately 28,000 miles. After doing some research online, apparently this has been a known problem with this model vehicle. The problem appears to be a coolant leak into the engine cylinder. There are many complaints from owners of this same problem. Most people have been made to pay thousands of dollars for this engine replacement. We have an extended warranty and, so far, have not been told we will be financially responsible for our repair. Ford has not recognized this as an issue that should be categorized as a recall, thus leaving people with a large repair bill. The engine design obviously have a defect that should necessitate a formal recall.
After having the vehicle for just over a year, with 61k miles, my check engine light came on and I am being told that I need a new engine. I was told that the engine coolant is leaking into the engine and that the only remedy is to replace the engine. This is not a wear and tear issue but after searching online have found that it is a wide spread issue people are having with this model. Ford has said that there is nothing they can do about it until a recall is issued with my vehicle being 1k miles out of warranty. Others have stated that Ford service has admitted they have had a lot of complaint and repairs for the same issue. I am unable to pay for a new engine and my families safety is at risk. . My check engine light came on, checked vehicle with code reader and code p0303 & p0316 showed. When vehicle started when cold, it would chug and stall out at times. Vehicle was brought to dealership. They found coolant was getting into the #3 cylinder. Therefore requiring a new long block. We researched tsb19-2346 and found the exact symptoms to what caused my engine failure, and this goes for all 2. 0 liter eco-boost engines. Basically, a factory material defect in head that allowed coolant to leak into cylinder block, which can cause engine failure. My Ford warranty was expired due to my vehicle mileage. My extended warranty company due to wording in contract would only cover internal , lubricated failure of engine. The dealership deemed my failure to be an external, material cause because it came from the head. I called Ford motor company and they had nothing to say about it and would not back their product. In the end, I believe with no question that this should have been a recall, which it never was. My vehicle had around 86,000 miles and should not need a new engine. My vehicle was a 2016 Ford Edge se, with 2. 0 liter eco-boost, that I purchased brand new.
