Ford Edge owners have reported 83 problems related to coolant leaking (under the engine and engine cooling category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Ford Edge based on all problems reported for the Edge.
When turning the car on, the check engine light came on. The car idled rough and failed to accelerate properly. Took the car to a mechanic and the code was for a misfire in cylinder 2. Mechanic changed spark plugs and cleared the code. A couple of weeks later the same thing occurred. I took the car back to the mechanic and was told the coolant was leaking into the engine and that the long block needed to be replaced. This occurred at approximately 64,000 miles. With this problem, the vehicle is unsafe to drive. The acceleration doesn't feel right and the car shakes. This problem is clearly a defect in the design of the vehicle. Ford needs to look at the situation and do the right thing. The Ford Edge is not a safe vehicle with this problem and it is clearly a defect in design.

Engine needs replaced due to leaking coolant. Apparently this is a known problem by Ford. Lots of complaints online and service department has a know problem.
Coolant leakage in cylinder #2. . Was told need new long block. . . . New engine. . . Not covered under extended warrenty due to the fact failing part is not a lubercated part. . . . Isn't an engine lubercated?.
Coolant leaking into #1 cylinder causing rough idle at start-up and misfire dtc. TSB issued by manufacturer to replace long block, but no recall or compensation for repair.
2016 Ford Edge titanium had a coolant leak into cylinder number 2. White smoke rough idling. Vehicle had 64,444 total miles. Required a complete engine replacement at a cost of $8217. 67.

2017 Ford Edge with 65,000 miles. Engine light came on for a day and then went off for about a week until it appeared again. Car started rough for about 2 days( like a cold morning) and then ran fine. Battery failed, during replacement turned car on to make sure battery working fine and white smoke poured out of exhaust pipe . Had car towed to my auto repair shop. Cylinder #2 failure. Coolant leaked into engine. Engine has to be replaced. It's a 2l engine. Ford has no recall for this issue but has had a multitude of problems with this. The Edge was my first Ford car, terribly disappointing and now I am expected to pay out of pocket for the new engine which will run about $8k-$9k. Ford needs to step up soon.
I was running errands driving around town one day when I noticed my auto engine start/stop feature in my 2017 Ford Edge stopped working. I took my car to the dealership & they said it was a misfire in the engine. A week later, a yellow light with the picture of an engine appears on my dash. I took my car for a diagnostic. It came back with the code p0304. I take my car to Ford and they suggest replacing the long block. They quote me $6,800. I noticed that my heat in my car stopped working on the way home. I check the coolant level and it was really low. I put coolant in my reservoir and it works again. But, I have to keep filling the reservoir with coolant every other day, which gets expensive. I tell the service guys, and they tell me that the coolant is leaking into my engine due to a manufacturer defect, which causes the heating to stop working, and low coolant levels. I contact Ford motors company, and they tell me my car is out of warranty. I purchased my car used on February 27,2020. It had 57 thousand miles on it the day of purchase. The warranty was up at 60 thousand miles. Not fair to me at all as I was told I had a warranty from the mileage I got the car at and 60 thousand miles beyond. They said it was nothing they can do and also because I did not leave my car at the Ford dealership they would not work on my case. My case manager from Ford motors never ever contacted me prior to closing my case once she discovered I never left my car at Ford. I tried reaching out to her several times in attempts of getting my car to Ford and seeing where we can go from there, and she never answered or returned any of my calls or emails. Ford needs to be held accountable and issue a recall as they were made aware of the expensive issue by many other customers from reviews and forums I have read online and heard from other Edge owners.
Cel came on at 62k miles. Cylinder 3 mis-fire fault. Local Ford said coolant is leaking into cylinder. Told today engine has to be replaced.
My vehicle is a 2017 with 87,000 miles. Check engine light came on, cylinder #2 misfiring, Ford said I am experiencing a similar issue they are having with these motors where there are hairline cracks in the long block leaking coolant into the combustion chamber and that I will need a new engine. Ford is saying it is only a bulletin and not a recall so I am having to pay for a new motor out of pocket for a design flaw in the engine. I am a recent college grad and was not expecting to pay $9,000 for a new motor on a relatively new vehicle on top of my student debt. I expected a few more reliable years with this vehicle and cannot risk having the engine go out while driving so I will have to try and get another vehicle since their is no recall for this known issue that they've redesigned the newer motors to account for this.
Check engine light came on at 41200 miles. Computer says p0303 misfire. Car idles in park. Drives hard. Known problem with the 2017 Ford Edge apparently many complaints online. Luckily my car is still under warranty, and they've agreed to cover the full cost of an engine replacement. Others not wo lucky. Ford knows this is an issue and charging 10 grand to repair when its really at no fault of the consumers own. Im scared to even get my car back if this will happen again and again after my warranty is up. Ford really should correct this know issue on all 2017 Edges where coolant is leaking into the pistons causing misfire before someone gets hurt.
I have a Ford Edge with 60k. It has been diagnosed with an internal coolant leak. Siezed and stalled up on the highway because coolant has leaked into cylinders 2 and 3.

The check engine light came on while I was out of town. I took it to the closet Ford. They let me know that the second cylinder is misfiring. This is happening because coolant has leaked into. They stated that I need a new engine and replace the long block.
Bought a car with a check engine light. The dealer knew about the light and said would be fixed. Took it to the dealer the first time they stated it has a misfire and cleared the code. If the light came back on contact them to bring it in for further inspection. The light came back in with minutes after driving off. They stated there's a coolant leak going into the motor. Which can cause the motor to blow up or catch fire. I tried t ge them to fix it and they give me cold shoulder so I asked for a trade for equity value or a reverse on the loan to get my old vehicle back they wouldn't do it.
Engine light came on. Took it to the dealership for diagnostic. Coolant leaking into cylinder 2. Engine had to be replaced. $9,300 quote to put a new engine in, and vehicle is out of warranty. The service advisor at the dealership and the mechanic both admitted it is a known defect and said there is a TSB bulletin on the issue. Completely unacceptable failure of the Ford product.
30 Aug 2020 the check engine light came on and the engine overheated without prior warning or indication. The dealership mechanic told me it was a know issue that the coolant leaks along the engine block. In my case it leaked into the 3rd cylinder and caused misfires. The cylinder is cracked and the engine needs to be replaced. Current milage is 64000 and not covered under the 60000 mile warranty.
My 2018 Ford Edge, 67,000 miles, has and engine light on the dash. I had the code read and it indicated a #2 cylinder misfire. The car is at the Ford dealership and they have indicated that coolant has leaked into the #2 cylinder. I have research this on the internet and there seems to be a lot of Fords with this same problem. If this was an isolated incident them maybe not a defect but with the amount of cases this appears to be a manufacturer defect of the block. I am waiting for the diagnoses and already the tech is saying maybe an engine replacement. The Ford company should be recalling these engines and replacing them as they are diagnosed.
My 2016 Ford Edge started rough starting for a couple of weeks and then the engine light came on. Had the car scanned #2coil pack issue. Replaced spark plugs. Lasted a week. Engine light back on with rough start and when I would go from a stop it would hesitate. Scanned again #2 coil pack . Replace #2 coil pack . Lasted almost a week. Engine light back on same problems. Replaced all the coil packs. Lasted 1 day. Then car overheated on the highway . I took it to the dealership to find out it needs an engine. Coolant is leaking into the #2 cylinder. Car has 116,000 miles and Ford will not cover any of the repair.
Defective engine. This is a common problem. A TSB bulletin was issued. Coolant leaked into the engine. My engine needs to be replaced.
The check engine light came on. Took the car to our local Ford dealership and they informed me that the second cylinder is misfiring due to coolant leaking into the cylinder. They have told me the engine needs to be replaced using a new long block at 103,002 miles.
Coolant leaking into the cylinders, I have read many people filing complaints on this issue in the last year especially. Even the tech at Ford said this is becoming a problem. It seems that this needs to be under the recall category now to help people not go through the pain of whats not under warranty and what is and having to spend money on something that is clearly at this point a manufacturing error. This issue isnt something you notice it starts with a check engine light and will turn on and off.
My 2016 Ford Edge had a coolant leak into the engine which is a common problem that Ford sent a bulletin out on. Thenford motor company refuses to take action for a recall on an obviously faulty. Engine. How can they be aloud to acknowledge that there's a huge issue with the engines that's common but dey a recall. This issue is causing tons of Ford Edge owners extreme financial stress and worse. This company needs to take responsibility. $9,500 on repairs. And now the new engines doing the same thing.
Engine light came on. Code was p0302, initial input from Ford dealer, change spark plugs, 98xxx miles, probably due for a tune-up. Maintenance performed, code reset. Engine light came back on, and engine coolant overtempt indication while driving into work, low on anti-freeze, taken to different Ford dealer that same afternoon, borescope of cylinder 2 indicates leakage of antifreeze into the cylinder told that engine longblock will require replacement.
Check engine light came on on my 2016 Ford Edge around 60000 miles. Code reader indicated misfire on cyl 3. After changing the spark plugs as a potential fix, the issue came back. Rough idles when starting but usually would go away after a few seconds. Last time I went to start it, white, sweet smelling smoke began pouring out of the exhaust. Shut off the engine immediately. Several other documented cases of coolant leaking into cylender leads me to believe this is a head gasket or another engine destroying issue. Having the car towed to our mechanic now.
Check engine light came on at startup, engine rough idle. Took to nazareth Ford, nazareth, PA, car diagnosed with coolant leak into cylinder, a common issue with this engine as described by mechanic. Engine replacement is the only fix. Quoted between $6,000 and $7000 repair. Vehicle currently at service station awaiting parts. Current milage: 61000+.
Tl the contact called on behalf of his daughter who owns a 2017 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while his daughter was driving 30 mph, the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to medgaarden southwest sales located at 1608 12th st sw, austin, mn 55912, to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced due to coolant leaking into the engine cylinder. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer contacted the manufacturer on behalf of the vehicle owner however, the manufacturer declined to provide any assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 61,900.
At about 48,000 miles the 2. 0l ecoboost engine had a check engine light. Brought it to Ford dealer and they said it was a coolant leak and it needed new engine. Vehicle still under warranty so engine will be replaced without cost. But I know others have had this problem. They need to issue a recall or warranty.
Ford Edge has 50,000 miles on it,was reading misfore code p0301 and coolant was leaking into cylinder 1,many others have had the same issue. This needs to be a recall.
The engine is leaking coolant into cylinder #3. This causes the engine to overheat and white smoke to come out of the exhaust.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Edge. The contact stated while driving he heard a loud knocking sound coming from the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that coolant leaked into the engine causing the engine to misfire. The vehicle was next taken to town and country Ford (7800 e lloyd expy, evansville, in 47715) where the mechanic informed the contact that the VIN was not under recall. Additionally, the repair would be an out of pocket expense. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 87,000.
Check engine light came on. I took to fox Ford dealership where I bought it for servicing. Diagnosed: coolant leaking into cylinders technical service bulletin 19-2346 2. 0l ecoboost engine must be replaced I have owned the vehicle for 11 months. Ford company not willing to assist - denied request I sent proof that the vehicle was maintained well for the 11 months I have owned it.
I own a 2016 Ford Edge that use to be my leased work vehicle and I bought it from the company for my wife on 11/15/2019 with 67,696 miles on the odometer. I have never had one issues with this car and I have put every mile on it from work until I bought it from the company/emkay lease program. The current mileage as of today is 72,853 miles and I had it serviced from landmark Ford in portland oregon. My check engine light came last week on and I took the Edge in for service but needed to bring the vehicle back today so landmark Ford could do a diagnostics on the vehicle. My wife and my daughter dropped off the vehicle and hours later, I was notified by chris kelso at landmark Ford (503-598-8398) that coolant was getting into the engine cylinders and I would need to replace the engine for close to $7000. 00. I have dealt with chris for years and he does a great job for me and my family. Chris mentioned that this has been a problem with Edges and a new engine is the only way to fix it. I told chris I can't afford to replace an engine on a vehicle I purchased in November of 2019, so why wouldn't Ford have a recall for this issue, if they knew about the problem? chris did not have an answer, which I can tell that bothered him. I've taken great care of this Ford Edge since the odometer had 13 miles on it for my work fleet vehicle. I'm currently driving a 2019 Ford Edge for my new work vehicle and I have been a Ford and a Ford Edge fan but this news to replace the engine is very unsettling to me at this time in our lives. I would really like someone with the authority to step up and provide some assistance to help me replace my engine on this vehicle under a consumer recall especially after reading all the comments for other Edge owners please Ford motor company post a recall notice for the faulty coolant leaking into the engine.
2nd cylinder leaking coolant. Engine needs to be replaced.
A year ago my check engine light came on and the car felt like it was misfiring when I pushed the gas so I took it in to the dealership and they said that there was coolant leaking into the engine. They fixed the head gasket and replaced the cylinders and it ran okay for a while. Fast forward to last week and I was driving down a major highway with my five year old and my dog in the car on our way to vacation and an error light came on saying it was a coolant emergency; at the same time the check engine came on immediately. Suddenly the car basically went dead while in motion going 75 miles per hour. I had to steer it off of the highway and turn it off; leaving us stranded on the side of the highway for 4 hours. I had to have it towed to the nearest dealership and they said that there is coolant leaking into the engine and that the entire engine needs to be replaced because apparently after I had my car worked on the first time there was a TSB 19-2346 saying if this problem occurs then the engine needs to be replaced. The car is 3 years old and has had major engine failure twice in one year- leaving my family and I in a very dangerous situation. This needs to be recalled. The mechanic at the dealership said this is a common problem on the ecoboost 2. 0 engine. A common problem?!?! now I have to pay $7000 for a new engine, $600 for a tow across three states $100 in uber for picking us up and hotel fees leaving us stranded.
Internal coolant leak into cylinder #2 causing miss fire code and check engine light. Known issue by Ford and recommends complete engine change and is not covering any of the cost.
My engine had to be replaced because coolant was leaking into cylinder 2. This is a known issue to Ford and a recall should have been issued.
