Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Ford Edge based on all problems reported for the Edge.
Was told by mechanic that my engine has a coolant leak and has caused engine failure. The car has been jerking whenever I accelerate. The remote start does not function from my key fob and I have been unable to pair the Ford pass app with that. The usb ports for android auto also don't seem to work. If I drive over a small bump on the road, it disconnects my phone from android auto. I then have to unplug the cable then replug back into my phone or the usb port to hopefully get it to work again.

The push button start stopped functioning and the car could not be started, leaving me stranded late at night. This problem was inspected by tamiami Ford, naples, florida in April, 2025 and the dealer could not determine the cause or fix it. Meanwhile, the intermittent problem is now frequent and the car is totally unreliable.

Car stutters and hesitates when accelerating. Almost got in accident when trying to merge onto interstate. Two different repair shops say there is an issue with the torque converter. They suggest a complete transmission rebuild or replacement.
I’ve had my car nine years. No problems with the body there’s no rust on it at all, and I love my Ford. Just as I hit 100,000 miles the warning light came on the car. Come to find out it is a head gasket leak and is required to have a whole new engine. Yes the warranty is over as the car has been paid for and the warranty is expired. My complaint is that Ford knows this is an issue which I know for a fact that they know this. I cannot afford $7100 for a new engine when I just want to keep my car. I can’t even afford another car not even a beater for $1000. I’m complaining that Ford knows this is a known issue, but because I am out of warranty, they will not help me. I’ve had Ford’s most of my life and never had an issue like this. Very disappointing that a big company like this has a known issue but will not help repair it.

Coolant intrusion to engine.
2018 Ford Edge engine size 2. 0 ecoboost has a coolant intrusion that Ford is well aware of but refuse to help customers with the problem. Engine could fail while driving on the highway but they have not issue an emergency recall for it. . This is a very serious manufacture error on behalf of Ford motor.
Vehicle: 2017 Ford Edge issue: sudden loss of power / transmission failure safety concern: loss of acceleration at highway speeds complaint description: I am submitting this complaint due to a serious safety issue with my 2017 Ford Edge. While driving at various speeds, the vehicle began hesitating when I pressed the accelerator. While traveling on the highway, the car accelerated to approximately 60 mph and then suddenly dropped to around 40 mph, despite continued pressure on the accelerator pedal. The check engine light illuminated. I immediately took the vehicle to the dealership for inspection and was informed that the transmission had failed and required replacement. This is a major safety concern. The unexpected and uncontrollable reduction in speed while traveling on a highway created a dangerous driving situation for me and other motorists. A sudden loss of power like this can easily lead to rear-end collisions and serious accidents, especially in fast-moving traffic where other drivers have no warning and do not anticipate a vehicle rapidly decelerating. I believe this issue poses a significant safety risk and request that NHTSA investigate this problem to help prevent potential crashes and protect drivers and the public.

Bought my car used with 100000 miles. Was maintained of every 3000 miles by a Ford dealer before I bought it. When I got it and as I was driving home there was a check engine light that popped up for a misfire in cylinder 3 (p0303) and no coolant in the reservoir. I topped up the coolant and since then ive had to refill my coolant ever 3 or 4 days. Its going back to the dealership I got it from on hoping the warranty they provided covers the work.
My 2016 Ford Edge has 95,000 miles on it and I have only owned it since spring of this year. Out of nowhere, I start having an antifreeze leak, and notice it is coming from my water pump, and my mechanic says it is going to cost $2000 plus dollars to fix it. I called several other repair places and they won’t even do the repair because it’s such a big/expensive job. I have researched about the class action lawsuit about this particular problem in my exact model with the 3. 5l motor. If my dad had not of noticed the leak, it would have completely ruined my motor driving it around much longer. I am struggling financially after having serious health problems this summer, and I simply can’t afford to pay for this repair. I can’t even get approved for any more loans or credit cards, because I am in so much debt. I want to know what can be done about this, as this is way too much financial stress for me to have to deal with. At the very least, Ford should compensate me and take care of the repair costs.
My car started overheating this morning. Took it to my mechanic & he told me I had a cracked head gasket where coolant was leaking. He thought there was a recall/notice about some coolant issues. Sent me to our local Ford dealership; they said my vehicle wasn't covered under any recalls. But there is a notification about this very issue. I attached a screenshot of the exact issue listed online that matches my problem.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Edge. The contact received notifications of NHTSA campaign numbers: 25v544000 (service brakes, hydraulic) and 25v572000 (back over prevention). The contact stated that while driving at undisclosed speeds, the vehicle stalled. After several attempts the vehicle restarted. There were no warning lights illuminated. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 200,000.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Edge. The contact received notifications of NHTSA campaign numbers: 20v469000 (service brakes, service brakes, hydraulic), 22v413000 (power train), 25v544000 (service brakes, hydraulic), and 25v572000 (back over prevention). The contact stated that while driving out of the driveway at 10-15 mph, the brake pedal was depressed and went to the floorboard. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The local dealer was contacted and confirmed that parts were not yet available for the recall repairs. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 97,000.
My car started to stutter whenever I was at a red light and had to accelerate or when I was turning and had to coast and then accelerate. I thought it was my tires and had goodyear check my tires. . Then it continued. I thought it was a bad tank of gas so when I filled up again, it was still happening. I brought it into the dealership on Friday, October 3rd. It has been at the dealership ever since. They told me that I need a new torque converter bed. Unfortunately, my extended warranty expired on September 12, 2025. I was driving around with it with the symptoms thinking it was other things. I brought it in when it got worse. It has been at the dealership for a whole week. I went online to check the whole situation out and found out that Ford is very aware of this design problem. It’s the same problem that they’ve been aware of for years. It’s a design flaw in this model car. They are no longer making it. This is the reason why. They are telling me it’s gonna cost anything from $7100-$8500. I went online and found a lot of other people that have had the same issue and they have paid $1600.
With no warning signs, I put my 2020 Ford Edge into drive, but it didn't move; so, I put it into reverse and it wouldn't move. After a minute, I was able to drive it. The next day, I was able to drive it ~1/4 mile when this sandy, gritty noise happened and the wrench light came up on the dashboard. I pulled over, then the check engine light came on, so I turned off the car. I turned it back on, and when I put it in drive, it didn't move, so I put it in reverse and it didn't move. I had the car towed to a Ford dealer, who after diagnosis, told me the transmission needed to be repaired @ $8600. My car had 136,000 miles on it when this happened; I always maintained it, including a tune up, with full fluid flush, per the recommended maintenance @ 100,000 miles. I was told by the mechanic that the planetary broke up and went through the entire system, ruining it.
Faulty fuel pump, vehicle stops while driving and rolls backwards.
The problem began in early August 2025 when the check engine light came on and the vehicle misfired. A Ford mobile technician inspected it before 8/23/25, confirmed diagnostic code p0303 (cylinder 3 misfire), but said it was likely just a bad ignition coil. Based on that, I went to midas on 8/23/25 for a tune-up and coil check. On 9/29/25, the check engine light returned and for the first time the coolant over-temperature warning illuminated. Midas confirmed coolant intrusion into cylinder 3: borescope and pressure test showed leakage, leak-down test failed with air entering the coolant reservoir, and visible coolant loss was present. At 80,445 miles, the engine was deemed unsafe and required full replacement. Hawk Ford confirmed no warranty extensions or programs applied. The repair cost was $10,500 out of pocket. This defect matches Ford TSB 19-2172, is widely reported in ecoboost engines, and creates a serious safety risk since the vehicle misfires, overheats, and may stall while driving.
Our 2018 Ford Edge started idling rough after spark plug change and after dealer tested it they told us it had engine coolant in #2 cylinder and that driving it could lead to catastrophic engine failure. Only fix is complete engine block replacement (recommended by Ford in bulletin tsb22-2229) along with new turbo as it may also have been damaged by coolant leak. (could also damage catalytic converter. This is a known default due to design fault in 2. 0 litre engine. Since vehicle is off warranty, the repair replacement is going to cost over $10,000. 00. I understand this is affecting a serious number of Ford customers with this engine, a number of which have been quietly replaced under warranty. I feel Ford owes their customers replacement costs on this issue and a recall should be issued. If ones motor seizes up suddenly while driving it could result in injury or death. I have contacted Ford directly, and their response is it's out of warranty so I am out of luck.
Driving felt weird like the vehicle was stuttering and I heard liquid sloshing around as I was driving. Check engine light came on and turned off again on its own on 2 separate occasions within 2 weeks. The first time it came on, I made an appointment at the service center but the check engine light had gone off by the time I brought it in. I was told they couldn't diagnose it if the check engine light was off. When it came on again, I took it to my local Ford service center and they diagnosed it with coolant leaking into the cylinder, causing a misfire. The recommended solution is a full engine replacement costing over $8,000. Apparently this is a known issue and a service bulletin was issued in 2022 (before I bought the car used) but Ford is refusing to issue a recall. The car only has 65k miles.
Vehicle went in for check engine light, no issues with how the car runs, low coolant. Vehicle was pressure tested and we were told there was a crack in the cylinder and that the engine would need to be completely replaced. This will cost upwards of 10k. Per my research this is a known ticket and huge defect that Ford knows about. We asked if we could get e engine replaced under the goodwill repair program through Ford and we were denied there as well.
There is a coolant intrusion into the cylinder bores of the engine. This has been confirmed by vanbortel Ford in east rochester NY. When the issue first occurred the engine light came on and the vehicle would no longer run properly.
2017 Ford Edge titanium (VIN: [xxx] ) suffered catastrophic engine failure at 81,571 miles in September 2025 due to coolant intrusion into cylinders caused by cracked intake manifold - a known Ford manufacturing defect. Total repair cost: $9,034. 66 for complete long-block engine replacement at crain Buick GMC, conway, ar. Known defect: Ford documented this problem in tsbs 19-2208, 19-2346, and 22-2229 (dated 2019-2022) affecting 2015-2018 Edge with 2. 0l ecoboost engines. Design flaw in engine block sealing surface allows coolant to leak into cylinders, causing misfires, white smoke, and complete engine failure. Ford redesigned engine for later models, confirming the defect. Ford provided assistance for identical defect in other engines: Ford issued customer satisfaction program 21n12 providing 7 years/84,000 miles no-cost repairs for 1. 5l engines with identical coolant intrusion problem, but provided no assistance for 2. 0l engines. Timing: my warranty expired February 2025. Engine failed September 2025 (only 7 months later) at 81,571 miles due to Ford's manufacturing defect, not wear and tear. I received no notification from Ford despite their documented knowledge since 2019. Safety risks: engine fire risk, sudden loss of power while driving, potential loss of vehicle control, stranding in dangerous locations. Widespread problem: service shops report multiple Edge vehicles per week with identical failure. Hundreds of documented cases online. Ford only issues tsbs for systematic problems affecting numerous vehicles. Smith Ford dealer conway, ar declined to help: despite knowing this is a documented Ford defect covered by tsbs. Request: NHTSA investigate and mandate safety recall for 2015-2018 Ford Edge 2. 0l ecoboost engines. Require Ford to notify owners, provide no-cost repairs, and reimburse customers who already paid. This defect affects thousands of vehicles and has cost owners $6,000-$10,000+ each for Ford's design flaw. See invoice repair: $9034. 66 information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information.
The coolant is leaking into the engine area. Causing repeated coil failures and misfire and I assume damage to engine. I believe engine block needs to repaired or replaced. Also, during both dry and especially slippery/wet conditions. . . My vehicle is veering to both sides on its own while driving . My hands are on wheel going straight and it just drifts, slips and slides. Afraid I'm going to crash. No warning lights. Might be esc and or abs systems. It seems these are known issues for this year make and model but these recalls and warnings for some reason are not attached to my VIN. I need them attached to my VIN so that I can take to Ford dealership for repair before these system failures kill me.
My 2016 Ford with only 56,210 miles has developed a critical engine failure. The engine block due to a manufactuing design flaw has caused the coolant to leak into one of the cylinders. Dealership informed me I need a new motor at the cost of $7300. 00. Ford will not stand behind the repair due to the age of my vehicle. It's in excellent condition other than the defective engine block.
Design flaw in engine which causes coolant intrusion into the cylinders causing misfires, overheating, and white smoke out of the exhaust. The vehicle is unsafe to drive due to the engine overheating. The vehicle has been inspected by a licensed mechanic that confirmed all of the above. The engine temperature would overheat and there was white smoke coming out of the exhaust upon starting the vehicle.
Coolant leaking into the cylinders caused engine overheating and ultimately, engine failure.
Coolant leaks into engine. Also leaks into spark plugs causing spark plug misfire. Engine block cracked. Only at 66k miles.
Engine leaking coolant into cylinders. Creating risk of smoke and fire, known issue with for per TSB 19-2208.
The car has been having a chemical smell when it starts. I recently was driving from san antonio, texas to austin, texas and received a warning that my car was overheating. The warning went off immediately and I continued driving it. A few days later, I got an oil change and was told that I had no coolant in the vehicle. They filled the coolant for me. I continued driving the car. This week, the car was shaking pretty violently when I turned on the ignition. I proceeded to drive it and it drove normally. The following day, a check engine light came on. I took it in to see a mechanic that day and they confirmed that I had a coolant intrusion problem caused by the 2. 0l eco boost engine which is defective and allows coolant to escape into the engine injectors. Ford is not taking any responsibility for this and says that it is not under warranty so there's no programs they can offer me. Ford should issue a recall of this defective product to avoid injuries or accidents.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle, the engine message was displayed. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who diagnosed the vehicle and was informed that there was coolant inside the cylinders. The contact was advised that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 65,000.
This is a follow-up to my previous NHTSA complaint ?11689215. ?regarding the flexplate failure on my 2016 Ford Edge (VIN: [xxx] ). This is a follow-up to my previous NHTSA complaint regarding the flexplate failure on my 2016 Ford Edge (VIN [xxx] ). Ford opened case xxx but closed it without any resolution, even though my vehicle remains undrivable. A new case cxh-xxx 1 was later created under customer satisfaction program 22n12 for the same defect. My car is still at autonation Ford bellevue (wa); the dealer confirms no repair authorization or contact from Ford corporate. This defect causes a rattling noise, flexplate cracking, and sudden loss of power while driving—a clear safety hazard. Ford continues to deny repair based on mileage limits in the csp, although this is a known safety-related defect. I am requesting NHTSA to review Ford’s handling of csp 22n12 and require Ford to treat this as a full safety recall without mileage restrictions. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
All lights came on randomly Ford house said it was the torque converter.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while starting the vehicle, there was a misfire coming from the engine. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the check engine warning light was reset; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken to a certified mechanic, where several unknown repairs were performed, and the fuel injectors were replaced; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken back to the independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed that there was coolant intrusion in the oil and in the engine. The mechanic recommended that the engine be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and a case was opened. The manufacturer informed the contact that the repair could not be covered. The failure mileage was approximately 76,000.
At 77,000 kilometers, check engine light came on, during inspection it is observed that there is an active coolant intrusion leak in cylinders 1 and 3. This is a Ford Edge 2018, with a 2. 0l ecoboost engine. The car is undriveable and needs a full engine replacement.
Vehicle hesitates while accelerating.
