Safety defects and mechanical failures my 2020 Ford Edge (VIN: [xxx] ) is plagued by systemic safety defects that render it unroadworthy under pennsylvania law (37 PA. Code § 301. 2). [1, 2] the 8f35 transmission suffers from a documented "shudder" and loss of motive power (TSB 21-2389), creating a high risk of collisions in traffic. [3, 4, 5] additionally, the vehicle is subject to critical federal recalls: recall 21s02 (21v-011) regarding sudden rear axle seizure [6, 7, 8] and recall 20s49 (20v-550) regarding a lethal fire hazard from leaking transmission fluid. [9, 10, 11] the engine also exhibits a design flaw known as "coolant intrusion" (TSB 19-2346), which leads to catastrophic engine failure and hydro-lock. [12, 13, 14] ?deceptive trade practices and lender liability carmax sold this vehicle as "quality certified" without fulfilling the disclosure requirements mandated by the 2022 multistate attorney general settlement. [15, 16] specifically, carmax failed to provide the required standalone, signed disclosure form for open safety recalls prior to the sale. [17, 18, 15] because this transaction was financed through santander consumer USA, the lender is derivatively liable for carmax’s deceptive acts under the ftc holder rule (16 c. F. R. § 433). [19, 2] this federal rule allows me to assert all legal claims and defenses against santander that I have against carmax, including breach of the implied warranty of merchantability, which overrides any "as-is" disclaimer when a vehicle is sold in a non-roadworthy condition information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

Long block repair due to coolant instrusion which is a known issue with this Ford Edge model. Dealership is quoting me $8468. 16 to replace. Per their diagnosis they found coolant intrusion in cylinder 1 combustion chamber. TSB states replace long block assembly and retest. I was driving the car and it started feeling like it was skipping. I immediately returned home as I had just left the house and parked it. When I parked the check engine light came on. My husband noticed blowback in the oil and we called a tow truck driver to tow the vehicle to the dealership.

While driving my family home, our 2020 Ford Edge displayed sudden overheating. White smoke with a sweet smell was coming from the tailpipe. Looking under the hood afterwards I could verify the coolant reservoir was empty. I refilled it with the recommended fluid and amount, drove it around the block, only for the same thing to happen again. Upon taking it to my local Ford dealership, they have confirmed the erg cooler has failed and requires replacing, per TSB 20-2234.
Check engine light started coming on for a cylinder 3 misfire at around 105,000 miles. Brought to mechanic to diagnose. Replaced ignition coils and spark plugs. The check engine light came on again with the same issue. Coolant also was running low. Brought to Ford dealership who scoped the number 3 cylinder. Dealership confirmed that coolant was intruding into the engine and that a new engine block would be required as a remedy. This is a well known defect on Ford ecoboost engines that they have issued recalls for in the past, albeit for smaller liter engines and not the 2. 0.

I am reporting what I believe to be mileage roll back and fraud. The vehicle was bought from a private seller and upon submitting paperwork to the dmv, it was found that the mileage on the car's odometer was less than the mileage on the car's title information.

The coils kept popping up check engine light. And turns out it was an injector failing, and cause my car to jerk a lot, and not accelerate when needing. My car would almost try to stop accelerating while on highway and jerk so much that it felt like I was going to wreck on the middle of a freeway.

My 2019 Ford Edge was having engine problems. I was experiencing shuttering at speeds 20-40 mph. My vehicle odometer is at about 104,000 miles. I took the vehicle into kendall Ford of marysville, in marysville washington. I requested a diagnostic to determine what was causing the shuttering. I offered a technical service bulletin be performed, as it was a bulletin I found when googling the issues I was experiencing. After the diagnostic the dealership performed Ford technical service bulletin (TSB) TSB 21-2081. After the TSB was performed and did not resolve the issue the dealership said the root cause of the issue is the torque converter. I am currently scheduled to have the maintenance to replace the torque converter on 12/15/2025. I read online there are customers and lawyers investigating this same type of issue by Ford and gathering data for a class action lawsuit as this issue is considered a safety hazard, in which Ford is negligent in taking ownership of the issue and notifying the owners via a safety recall.

I purchased this vehicle used in August 2025 from the estate of a friend's relative. The records show it was meticulously maintained and no recall notices have been unaddressed. The prior owner used it infrequently and it still has just under 90k miles. There were no major engine issues when my local repair shop (over 12 years and 3 vehicles) inspected all systems, and the vehicle passed for PA state inspection and emissions. However, driving more, I noticed that the brakes would intermittently become "mushy" or "hard" and overall less responsive. I needed to use a lot of force to fully stop over a longer distance. There was also a hissing noise while braking and sometimes the cabin air fan would blast on suddenly. Then, while stopped at a red light and applying the brakes, the engine shut off and check engine light came on. My mechanic detected O2 sensor codes p2195/p2197 indicating "stuck lean. " but nothing about the brake booster, and so we cleaned it up a bit and tried to get more of an understanding of the issue. Now I know that the compromised engine vacuum from the booster air leak is impacting the fuel/air balance. Extremely unsafe. This has now happened many times while I try to get a good diagnosis and help. It's scary, and makes city driving very challenging. On multiple occasions I feared I would hit other vehicles or would have to "creep" at a light to alleviate the airflow issues from braking. If I have to be at a light for more than a moment, I will put the car in park and foot off the brake. I'd rather risk being honked at or hit, than have the engine dying on me in traffic. When I was able to get to a dealership, I was informed that it was the brake booster. The first thing I found when looking up that part for the 2013 Ford Edge was the recall. The dealership says my VIN was not covered, but it seems more than coincidence that this is the exact problem, now confirmed by the dealership. The part is faulty, and should be replaced by oem.

My vehicle was recalled by the manufacturer for possibly defective intake valves. The manufacturer did a destructive test on the valves, this test consisted of running the car at 4500 rpm (approximately 120 mph) for a period of approximately 50 minutes. Since this test my car has undergone 3 transmission repairs. Any of these conditions could have resulted in being stranded on the road or possibly losing control of the vehicle, the test only makes the assumption that if the valves did not fail during the test they will continue to provide adequate and safe service. This is not necessarily true. The valves may fail on the highway causing loss of control, I believe that my vehicle was damaged by this test. My vehicle has a little over 30, 000 miles and had no damage before this test. The manufacturer should make this good on the intake valves by replacing them on the 90,000+ vehicles subject to this recall.

I have several different things going on. First of all my rear turn signals do not work, nor do my rear hazard lights. I've taken it to a mechanic who has extensively looked at this and has determined that it's the body control modular and is suggested replacement. I have been waiting for several months for this part to come in but he keeps telling me it's on back order. Also, my radiator fan/assembly went bad and had to be replaced. Upon the mechanic installing the new fan assembly, I had numerous fuses blown and that is when my blinker and hazard light issue started. This is a major safety concern as signaling the direction that you're turning is very important to other drivers. Additionally, it is against the law not to use signals. I'm constantly in fear that someone is going to rear in me because of my inability to signal when switching lanes and or turning. Additionally, my back up camera stopped working shows a black screen with a notice to contact the dealer. Another issue I have is that my door ajar light is illuminated all the time. I often feel unsafe and fear that the door may just come open at any time, I am unable to lock my doors with the internal lock , which means my doors are left unlocked while I'm in the vehicle. Also, the interior lights stay on for awhile when car turned off, thus putting more strain on the battery, which I've just replaced. Plus, the dome light will not go off until you accelerated to about 20 mph, however, when putting the car in reverse there's no way to get the lights to turn off in this causes visibility issues at night. That in conjunction with my backup camera not working makes it a very dangerous situation when going in reverse. I also detect the odor of gasoline which lingers in my vehicle for some time after getting fuel. I'm scared that there's a leak and if so the potential of a fire is very concerning. And I've noticed that my gas mileage is not really good and I'm not sure if that's related.
The torque is shuttering like crazy. I took it into Ford months ago multiple times and they said they had no idea because nothing was coming up, no codes or anything. I have been religious with maintenance checks and whatever they recommend at the dealership. Today my check engine light went on and the cores that came up were about my torque shuttering. Ford released a TSB about the shuttering on my make and model and saying the course of action is to replace the torque converter. I called Ford and told them all this and they quoted me thousands and said they aren’t liable for the repairs. How are they not responsible when this is a manufacturing issue? the car is unsafe to drive and Ford even released a TSB but they refuse to fix it.
The contact owns a 2019 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while his daughter was driving at an undisclosed speed, the driver noticed white smoke coming out of the tailpipe. No warning lights were illuminated. The contact's daughter was able to drive the vehicle to the residence. The vehicle was later taken to a local service center, where it was diagnosed with coolant intrusion in cylinder #3 and cylinder #1. The contact stated that prior to arriving to the local service center, a warning message, advising that the engine temperature gauge and engine coolant temperature had risen, was displayed. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 85,000.
The defect involves the engine block or cylinder head design, which allows engine coolant to intrude into the engine's combustion cylinders. Coolant mixing with the engine oil will cause a catastrophic failure and can lead to an engine fire. Ford has issued technical service bulletins TSB 19-2346 but it does not cover any cost and no recalls have been issued. This is a known manufacturing defect in which Ford is taking no accountability.
My Ford jerks and shutters as I accelerate from 0 to 40 per hour. I took it in to capitol Ford in carson ctiy, nv. They told me the transmission computer software need to be upgraded. I'm afraid the transmission is going to go out and cause a accident. No accident has happen yet.
Was told by mechanic that my engine has a coolant leak and has caused engine failure. The car has been jerking whenever I accelerate. The remote start does not function from my key fob and I have been unable to pair the Ford pass app with that. The usb ports for android auto also don't seem to work. If I drive over a small bump on the road, it disconnects my phone from android auto. I then have to unplug the cable then replug back into my phone or the usb port to hopefully get it to work again.
The push button start stopped functioning and the car could not be started, leaving me stranded late at night. This problem was inspected by tamiami Ford, naples, florida in April, 2025 and the dealer could not determine the cause or fix it. Meanwhile, the intermittent problem is now frequent and the car is totally unreliable.
Coolant leak into the cylinders of an ecoboost engine. Coded out. Inspection found that the coolant had been pulled into the engine. No recall, needs entire engine replaced.
The coolant is leaking into the motor causing an overheating issue that cuts power to the engine while driving. This is a large problem that may go unreported but Ford did change the design years down the road to help fix the issue but will not take responsibility.
Transmission causing jerking, shuddering and take off issues. It was diagnosed as the torque converter messed up in the transmission. My safety is at risk of being reared in as the car hesitates to go in gear and to shift properly.
Component or system that failed or malfunctioned, and availability for inspection the torque converter and transmission system in my 2020 Ford Edge have malfunctioned. The vehicle experiences transmission shuddering/stuttering during normal driving, particularly during low-speed acceleration and gear changes. The vehicle remains in my possession and is available for inspection upon request. Safety risk the transmission stuttering causes hesitation, jerking, and unpredictable power delivery while driving. This creates a safety risk, especially when accelerating from a stop, merging into traffic, or driving at low speeds in congested areas. The lack of smooth and reliable acceleration increases the risk of rear-end collisions or loss of control, putting both myself and other drivers at risk. Confirmation or reproduction of the problem the issue has been consistently reproducible during normal operation of the vehicle. The symptoms have been observed repeatedly and were confirmed by a dealer/independent service center, which identified the torque converter and transmission as the source of the problem and advised that significant repairs or replacement would be required. Inspections performed the vehicle has been inspected by a dealership and/or independent repair facility. The manufacturer has not yet directly inspected the vehicle beyond dealer diagnostics, but the vehicle is available for further inspection if requested. Warning lamps, messages, or symptoms prior to failure there were no immediate warning lamps at the onset of the issue. The primary symptoms were transmission shuddering, stuttering, and rough shifting, which gradually worsened over time. These symptoms first appeared during regular driving and became more frequent and severe, indicating progressive failure of the torque converter and transmission system.
Car stutters and hesitates when accelerating. Almost got in accident when trying to merge onto interstate. Two different repair shops say there is an issue with the torque converter. They suggest a complete transmission rebuild or replacement.
2018 Ford Edge with 119k miles. Issue has been determined to be the known issue of coolant intrusion into the cylinders. The issue was noticed while stopped at a traffic light, vehicle started "reving" and showed rpm fluctuations. On two separate occasions, the vehicle lost all ability to accelerate while driving. It's also has white smoke coming out of the exhaust and has been losing coolant at an alarming rate. After multiple inspections and other attempted fixes (water pump replacement, spark plugs replaced, fuel pump replaced), it's been determined that the coolant intrusion is to blame. The vehicle is deemed unsafe to drive in the current state and extended warranty is no longer in affect due to the mileage.
I’ve had my car nine years. No problems with the body there’s no rust on it at all, and I love my Ford. Just as I hit 100,000 miles the warning light came on the car. Come to find out it is a head gasket leak and is required to have a whole new engine. Yes the warranty is over as the car has been paid for and the warranty is expired. My complaint is that Ford knows this is an issue which I know for a fact that they know this. I cannot afford $7100 for a new engine when I just want to keep my car. I can’t even afford another car not even a beater for $1000. I’m complaining that Ford knows this is a known issue, but because I am out of warranty, they will not help me. I’ve had Ford’s most of my life and never had an issue like this. Very disappointing that a big company like this has a known issue but will not help repair it.

Subject: safety complaint: engine failure and stall risk – 2017 Ford Edge 2. 0l ecoboost description of incident: I am reporting a dangerous engine defect in my 2017 Ford Edge (VIN: [xxx] ) involving the 2. 0l ecoboost engine. My vehicle has experienced total engine failure due to coolant leaking into the engine cylinders. This is a known design flaw documented by Ford in TSB 19-2346, yet no safety recall has been issued for the Edge model. This defect poses a significant safety risk as it can lead to sudden engine stalling, loss of power while driving, and potential engine fires due to overheating. Impact and financial burden: my vehicle is currently inoperable and at a repair shop. I am facing a repair estimate of $7,000 – $10,000. Furthermore, my third-party warranty provider (carshield) has denied the claim, specifically citing that because Ford acknowledged this as a known manufacturing defect via a TSB, they are not liable for the repair. Owners are being left stranded with dangerous, failing vehicles because Ford has not transitioned this TSB into a formal recall or customer satisfaction program (csp), despite the clear risk of engine failure at highway speeds. Vehicle information for your records: •year/make/model: 2017 Ford Edge •engine: 2. 0l ecoboost •VIN: [xxx] •failure mileage: approximately 142000 •incident date: 10/27/2025 note: car shield contract # xxx claim # xxx information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
Coolant leaked into the engine cylinders. This issue leads to severe overheating, head gasket failures, and total engine failure. I've been quoted almost $8,000 to replace engine due to Ford's design flaw.
The vehicle has low mileage, but the 3rd cylinder wall has a crack that is causing coolant to be leaked into the engine and therefore, the long block/engine needs to be immediately replaced. This is a major safety hazard which can cause the engine to stop at any time, even while driving on the highway, which a major safety issue and hazard. The certified mechanics say that the long block part was manufactured too thin and is causing major safety and mechanical problems and shared Ford needs to recall and replace the long block as this is a common problem and major safety issue with this vehicle as research has shown.
I have a 2018 Ford Edge. In late October of 2025 my engine light illuminated. The diagnosis was a p301, indicating a misfire in cylinder one. Spark plugs and cylinder 1 coil was replaced. No problems until December and engine light came on again, same code. Coil was replaced again and in January engine light came on again. Ford released TSB 19-2346 on 12-19-19 describing a possible coolant leak in to the cylinders and a engine replacement was suggested. I feel a recall is necessary to prevent safety issues created by slower than normal acceleration and /or engine fires.
The contact owned a 2016 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while driving at 70 mph, the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed that cylinder #3 needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure reoccurred approximately two weeks later. The vehicle was taken back to the independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed that all three cylinders needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure reoccurred approximately a week later. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 70 mph, there was an abnormal sound coming from the engine compartment. The vehicle was taken to the residence. The vehicle was taken to two independent mechanics, where it was diagnosed that an unknown hose had leaked fluid into the engine, and the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was then taken to a dealer, where the same assessment was made. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 58,000.
Coolant intrusion to engine.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while driving at 40 mph, the engine warning light illuminated. The driver became aware that the coolant level was low. While driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle lost motive power. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who confirmed that the failure was due to a misfire in cylinders #2 and #3. The contact stated that the spark plugs were replaced, and coolant was added, but the failure reoccurred. The contact stated that coolant was leaking into the engine. The mechanic informed the contact that the engine needed to be replaced. The contact called an unknown local dealer, but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, and confirmed there was no recall coverage for the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.
2018 Ford Edge engine size 2. 0 ecoboost has a coolant intrusion that Ford is well aware of but refuse to help customers with the problem. Engine could fail while driving on the highway but they have not issue an emergency recall for it. . This is a very serious manufacture error on behalf of Ford motor.
Vehicle: 2017 Ford Edge issue: sudden loss of power / transmission failure safety concern: loss of acceleration at highway speeds complaint description: I am submitting this complaint due to a serious safety issue with my 2017 Ford Edge. While driving at various speeds, the vehicle began hesitating when I pressed the accelerator. While traveling on the highway, the car accelerated to approximately 60 mph and then suddenly dropped to around 40 mph, despite continued pressure on the accelerator pedal. The check engine light illuminated. I immediately took the vehicle to the dealership for inspection and was informed that the transmission had failed and required replacement. This is a major safety concern. The unexpected and uncontrollable reduction in speed while traveling on a highway created a dangerous driving situation for me and other motorists. A sudden loss of power like this can easily lead to rear-end collisions and serious accidents, especially in fast-moving traffic where other drivers have no warning and do not anticipate a vehicle rapidly decelerating. I believe this issue poses a significant safety risk and request that NHTSA investigate this problem to help prevent potential crashes and protect drivers and the public.
The contact owns a 2018 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while attempting to start the vehicle, the engine hesitated to turn over. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed with a coolant intrusion in the engine. The vehicle was not repaired due to the costs. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 89,000.
Bought my car used with 100000 miles. Was maintained of every 3000 miles by a Ford dealer before I bought it. When I got it and as I was driving home there was a check engine light that popped up for a misfire in cylinder 3 (p0303) and no coolant in the reservoir. I topped up the coolant and since then ive had to refill my coolant ever 3 or 4 days. Its going back to the dealership I got it from on hoping the warranty they provided covers the work.
