36 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2018 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 02/03/2026

The long block of the engine, which has seemingly been a known issue, is causing damage to the engine and spark plugs. It is. This could leave me stranded or cause an accident with how violent it makes the car misfire, and sometimes it's hard to accelerate. This is an issue that Ford has acknowledged as well as the Ford dealership. It has undergone a diagnostic run at the Ford dealership. There were no warnings prior to this. The problem makes it seem like it is another issue, and with further investigation, it shows that it is the long block of the engine that is the root cause.

37 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2015 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 02/02/2026

My 2015 Ford Edge suddenly turned into a nightmare on what started as a normal drive. I noticed the temperature gauge climbing quickly, the engine started overheating, and then the check engine light came on. Almost at the same time, the engine began feeling like it was slipping—power dropped off, it hesitated and ran rough under acceleration, almost as if the transmission were slipping, but it was the engine itself struggling from poor lubrication. Turns out coolant had gotten into the oil (a pretty common headache with these 3. 5l v6 models, often from a failing internal water pump). The mixture turned my oil into a gross, milky sludge that couldn't lubricate the engine properly anymore, leading to overheating and a slipping sensation as things started to bind up inside. I had to pull over quickly before it got even worse—definitely not something I want to go through again.

38 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2017 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 02/01/2026

On appx 2/1/2026, when accelerating over 50mph to enter the highway, the car started to violently shake would not accelerate any higher. This caused my daughter to be a danger on the highway at such a low speed and she nearly was hit by a semi. The check engine line turned on when this occurred and then went off when the vehicle was turned off so we continued to drive it and it happened 2 more times so we brought it to be looked at. I took it to a local shop that had just changed the oil, thinking it was related, however they ran the diagnostic code(s) and found that there is an open service bulletin at Ford for this issue. The diagnostic codes were p0301 and p0316 for misfires in the cylinders. They are aware of the issue which is causing coolant to leak into the cylinder and the only remedy is to basically replace the engine which I was quoted over $10,000 to complete. For such a new vehicle with so little miles, it doesn't make any sense that Ford does not have a recall open for this for any impacted vehicles.

39 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2017 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 01/30/2026

Coolant intrusion into cylinder 2 causing misfire in cylinder 2 and subsequent p0302 error code. Coolant level drops in reservoir and engine begins to overheat unless turned off.

40 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2017 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 01/30/2026

41 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2016 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 01/23/2026

Vehicle information: year/make/model: 2016 Ford Edge se engine: 2. 0l ecoboost mileage at failure: ~79,000 miles description of the problem: I am reporting a safety-related defect involving engine coolant intrusion into the cylinders on my 2016 Ford Edge equipped with the 2. 0l ecoboost engine. At approximately 79,000 miles, my vehicle experienced engine misfires and internal coolant loss. A Ford dealership diagnosed the issue as coolant intrusion into the engine cylinders caused by internal engine block failure, which required replacement of the engine block / engine assembly. Safety concern: this failure presents a safety hazard due -sudden loss of engine power -risk of engine stalling while driving -increased chance of breakdown in traffic -potential loss of vehicle control in certain driving conditions an engine should not experience catastrophic internal failure at this mileage under normal operating and maintenance conditions. Known pattern and manufacturer awareness: this issue is well-documented across numerous Ford vehicles equipped with the 2. 0l ecoboost engine, including the 2015–2018 Ford Edge and other Ford models. Ford has issued multiple technical service bulletins (tsbs) addressing coolant intrusion into the engine cylinders due to engine block design issues, demonstrating manufacturer awareness of the defect. Despite this, no recall has been issued, and affected owners are often denied assistance once the vehicle is outside the warranty period. Request to NHTSA: -review this issue as a potential defect investigation -evaluate the frequency/safety implications of coolant intrusion failures in Ford 2. 0l ecoboost engines - consider whether further action or recall is warranted to protect vehicle owners and the public.

42 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2020 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 01/23/2026

Coolant entered into the engine, causing catastrophic failure. There was no warning on the dash of low coolant or anything until it happened. By then, it was too late! this is a known problem by Ford motor company, yet they have done nothing to assist owners with repairs by offsetting costs or performing them for free!!.

43 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2015 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 01/22/2026

2. 0l ecoboost engine and coolant intrusion. Coolant leaked into two of the cylinder heads, resulting in engine failure and the need for a full engine replacement. Initially, the vehicle would not start. A tow company technician was able to get the vehicle started, after which I was advised to drive directly to my mechanic. I was informed that the exhaust smelled like diesel fuel and that if the engine were shut off, it was highly unlikely to restart. At that point, the check engine light illuminated. The dealership confirmed the coolant instrusion and the need for a new engine.

44 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2019 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 01/20/2026

This is a 2019 Ford Edge in great condition. I just purchased the vehicle with roughly 90000 miles on it. After roughly 2 weeks of driving, I noticed the vehicle struggles to get up to speed, and the gears shift roughly, especially after a cold start. Additionally, while driving, the gears would struggle to downshift, staying at a higher rpm than it should, such as being stuck at 4000 rpm while driving 30mph, and it would stay like this for about 1-2 minutes. Additionally, from time to time, the reverse gear will not engage at all, this is a major safety concern, god forbid I am somewhere I need to back out from and there is obstruction in the front, only god knows what trouble I would be in. There have been recalls for such cars. It is unfortunate that Ford has not opened an active recall for others with this issue. Please help, this car costs too much, and I fear for my wife and newborn's safety with transmission issues.

45 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2017 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 01/19/2026

While I was coming home from work driving up the mountain on highway 35 in fort payne alabama my vehicle stopped moving and I rolled to a stop on the side of the road. I had to call a rollback and my dad so he could come pick me up. He heard the noise and knew it was the flex plate torque converter issue that Ford is having.

46 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2018 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 01/14/2026

When the check engine light illuminated, the vehicle was inspected by an independent mechanic who diagnosed the problem as “there is an internal engine failure on number 3 cylinder. Anti-freeze is leaking into the combustion chamber and going out the tailpipe. The engine needs to be replaced. ” there were no indications prior to the check engine light warning as the car is well maintained (garage kept, regular oil changes/maintenance by the Ford dealership where the vehicle was purchased and only 63,000 miles on the vehicle). The vehicle does start but is considered undrivable for any distance since the engine failure could cause the vehicle to become inoperable at any time. However, the vehicle can be made available for inspection if driving a short distance or possibly having the vehicle towed. What we are left with is a vehicle that is a total loss. We are unable to sell or trade it and continue to incur insurance costs.

47 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2019 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 01/14/2026

The contact owns a 2019 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while driving at 70 mph, the engine overheated. Coolant was added to the coolant reservoir, and the driver was able to continue driving. Several days later, the heat became inoperable. Upon research, the failure was associated with TSB 19-2346. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for a pressure test, but no leaks were found. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The message "coolant low" was displayed. The contact stated that the vehicle was towed to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed with coolant intrusion into the engine. The manufacturer was contacted, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 85,000.

48 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2017 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 01/12/2026

There was a leak in the engine coolant system causing the engine to warp and fail. The engine had thousands of dollars worth of work this year due to other issues. The backup camera stopped working as well and the recall can't be fixed because there aren't parts for it. This engine failure is costing me $9,000 because it can't be repaired and I now have to pay off the vehicle because it isn't worth the cost to put in a new engine. This is a known issue with this model of Ford. Why hasn't it been recalled?!?.

49 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2018 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 01/09/2026

I am submitting this complaint to report a serious engine defect involving coolant intrusion into the engine cylinders on my 2018 Ford Edge. The vehicle was inspected by a Ford-authorized dealership after engine performance concerns. Diagnostic testing confirmed positive combustion gases in the cooling system, indicating internal coolant leakage into the engine. The dealership has stated that the only recommended repair is replacement of the long block (engine). This condition is consistent with a known defect affecting Ford 2. 0l ecoboost engines, which Ford has acknowledged through technical service bulletin 22-2229. Despite this acknowledgment, no recall has been issued for this vehicle. This defect poses a significant safety concern, as it can lead - engine misfires and loss of power - sudden engine failure while driving - potential stalling or inability to safely operate the vehicle the failure occurred at approximately 63,110 miles, which is unreasonably low for catastrophic engine damage of this nature and indicates a manufacturing or design defect rather than normal wear.

50 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2016 Ford Edge

Coolant leak with coolant intrusion into cylinder 2. This problem was reproduced by the dealer and we had to have a new engine installed.

51 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2019 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 01/03/2026

Have only had 2019 Ford Edge sel for just about 3yrs. . Around the middle of Nov, 2025 vehicle started sputting/jerking up to about 40mph then would drive fine at higher speeds. . . While driving over the weekend Jan 3rd 2026 vehicle started smoking extremely bad, no check engine light to let me know anything was wrong, still no lights at this time. . . Had to abruptly stop on the highway to merge over to get to the side safely thinking any minute vehicle could catch fire. Assuming it was a oil leak, had it towed to the mechanic shop where I was informed it was transmission fluid everywhere. After looking up systems I came across a forum where owners of this vehicle are calling for recall for the exact same problem. Mechanic stated take to Ford dealership bc these Edges have had transmission issues and he didn't want to replace converter or any other part then months later need new transmission which he quoted at 9600. Not only my safety was put at risk but every person on the road that day, it was smoking so bad couldn't see clearly out winshield, people honking telling me vehicle was on fire underneath. After all the chaos, fluid everywhere, smoke, burnt smell, jerking, ect. . Still no alert on dash of any kind!.

53 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2022 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 12/31/2025

To whom it may concern, I am writing to formally report an ongoing and concerning issue with my 2022 Ford Edge. My vehicle has begun hesitating when pressing the accelerator and jerking between 20 mph and 40 mph. Some days the issue is worse than others, but it has progressively made the vehicle feel unreliable and unsafe to drive. At times, it feels as though the vehicle may break down while in motion. After researching this issue, I have found that many other Ford Edge owners are experiencing the same symptoms, with the torque converter frequently identified as the cause. This appears to be a widespread and recurring problem rather than an isolated incident. Additionally, the vehicle will coast between approximately 2,000 and 5,000$. This behavior is not normal and raises serious concerns regarding drivability, safety, and long-term damage to the transmission. Given how common this issue appears to be among Ford Edge vehicles, I strongly believe this warrants further investigation and the establishment of a recall. Owners should not be financially responsible for a known and recurring manufacturing defect. I am requesting that Ford address this issue promptly and take responsibility for repairs associated with this problem. I appreciate your time and look forward to a resolution. Sincerely, [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

Safety defects and mechanical failures my 2020 Ford Edge (VIN: [xxx] ) is plagued by systemic safety defects that render it unroadworthy under pennsylvania law (37 PA. Code § 301. 2). [1, 2] the 8f35 transmission suffers from a documented "shudder" and loss of motive power (TSB 21-2389), creating a high risk of collisions in traffic. [3, 4, 5] additionally, the vehicle is subject to critical federal recalls: recall 21s02 (21v-011) regarding sudden rear axle seizure [6, 7, 8] and recall 20s49 (20v-550) regarding a lethal fire hazard from leaking transmission fluid. [9, 10, 11] the engine also exhibits a design flaw known as "coolant intrusion" (TSB 19-2346), which leads to catastrophic engine failure and hydro-lock. [12, 13, 14] ?deceptive trade practices and lender liability carmax sold this vehicle as "quality certified" without fulfilling the disclosure requirements mandated by the 2022 multistate attorney general settlement. [15, 16] specifically, carmax failed to provide the required standalone, signed disclosure form for open safety recalls prior to the sale. [17, 18, 15] because this transaction was financed through santander consumer USA, the lender is derivatively liable for carmax’s deceptive acts under the ftc holder rule (16 c. F. R. § 433). 58 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2015 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 12/26/2025

Long block repair due to coolant instrusion which is a known issue with this Ford Edge model. Dealership is quoting me $8468. 16 to replace. Per their diagnosis they found coolant intrusion in cylinder 1 combustion chamber. TSB states replace long block assembly and retest. I was driving the car and it started feeling like it was skipping. I immediately returned home as I had just left the house and parked it. When I parked the check engine light came on. My husband noticed blowback in the oil and we called a tow truck driver to tow the vehicle to the dealership.

59 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2020 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 12/18/2025

While driving my family home, our 2020 Ford Edge displayed sudden overheating. White smoke with a sweet smell was coming from the tailpipe. Looking under the hood afterwards I could verify the coolant reservoir was empty. I refilled it with the recommended fluid and amount, drove it around the block, only for the same thing to happen again. Upon taking it to my local Ford dealership, they have confirmed the erg cooler has failed and requires replacing, per TSB 20-2234.

60 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2017 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 12/17/2025

I bought this car used in 2020 with 76,000 miles on it. Three months into ownership my engine blew this was caused from coolant leaking into the cylinder. I paid $8000 to replace the engine because it was out of factory warranty fast-forward to 2025 and I am replacing the engine again because the engine that was put in it was it used one with the same problems. This is an known issue with this vehicle. It’s been widely they reported. In fact, there is a class action lawsuit. How is it fair to a consumer to spend all of this money and not have a vehicle that is free from defects that the manufacturer is aware of. I’m making payments on this car and still having to sink money into it. When are you going to help us? there are thousands of us out here.

61 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2017 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 12/16/2025

Check engine light started coming on for a cylinder 3 misfire at around 105,000 miles. Brought to mechanic to diagnose. Replaced ignition coils and spark plugs. The check engine light came on again with the same issue. Coolant also was running low. Brought to Ford dealership who scoped the number 3 cylinder. Dealership confirmed that coolant was intruding into the engine and that a new engine block would be required as a remedy. This is a well known defect on Ford ecoboost engines that they have issued recalls for in the past, albeit for smaller liter engines and not the 2. 0.

62 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2018 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 12/15/2025

The engine requires full replacement due to a cracked engine block, coolant intrusion into cylinder 2, heavy spark plug corrosion, and diagnostic code p0302 (cylinder 2 misfire). The defect was confirmed by an authorized Ford dealership. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. Safety risk: this defect causes sudden loss of engine power without reliable warning, engine stalling in active traffic, and risk of engine fire due to coolant-oil contamination - all documented safety hazards Ford has acknowledged in its own technical bulletins. The vehicle was inspected by a Ford-certified technician at an authorized dealership. The problem was confirmed and dealership issued a written diagnosis for requiring engine replacement. 100% of our services to this vehicle have been done by Ford dealerships, up to and including the appointment to diagnose the engine. Warning symptom appeared prior to failure: check engine light, an audible sloshing sound from the engine compartment. Symptoms first appeared in early December 2025, (approximately 2 weeks before the end of our warranty. ) a service appointment was scheduled for the check engine light, but was cancelled because the light cleared itself. We learned in April 2026 that it was engine failure. Ford's own tsbs 19-2346 and 22-2229 document that symptoms of this defect occur with or without an illuminated mil. Ford has not issued a recall despite NHTSA's own database showing 727 complaints on this vehicle, 128 pages of which relate to engine and engine cooling issues. They stated when asked about a warranty claim or goodwill there is no open customer service issues related to this, and since the diagnosis is post warranty they will not cover any of the approximate $10,000 it will cost to replace the engine.

The coils kept popping up check engine light. And turns out it was an injector failing, and cause my car to jerk a lot, and not accelerate when needing. My car would almost try to stop accelerating while on highway and jerk so much that it felt like I was going to wreck on the middle of a freeway.

65 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2019 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 12/08/2025

My 2019 Ford Edge was having engine problems. I was experiencing shuttering at speeds 20-40 mph. My vehicle odometer is at about 104,000 miles. I took the vehicle into kendall Ford of marysville, in marysville washington. I requested a diagnostic to determine what was causing the shuttering. I offered a technical service bulletin be performed, as it was a bulletin I found when googling the issues I was experiencing. After the diagnostic the dealership performed Ford technical service bulletin (TSB) TSB 21-2081. After the TSB was performed and did not resolve the issue the dealership said the root cause of the issue is the torque converter. I am currently scheduled to have the maintenance to replace the torque converter on 12/15/2025. I read online there are customers and lawyers investigating this same type of issue by Ford and gathering data for a class action lawsuit as this issue is considered a safety hazard, in which Ford is negligent in taking ownership of the issue and notifying the owners via a safety recall.

66 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2013 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 12/04/2025

I purchased this vehicle used in August 2025 from the estate of a friend's relative. The records show it was meticulously maintained and no recall notices have been unaddressed. The prior owner used it infrequently and it still has just under 90k miles. There were no major engine issues when my local repair shop (over 12 years and 3 vehicles) inspected all systems, and the vehicle passed for PA state inspection and emissions. However, driving more, I noticed that the brakes would intermittently become "mushy" or "hard" and overall less responsive. I needed to use a lot of force to fully stop over a longer distance. There was also a hissing noise while braking and sometimes the cabin air fan would blast on suddenly. Then, while stopped at a red light and applying the brakes, the engine shut off and check engine light came on. My mechanic detected O2 sensor codes p2195/p2197 indicating "stuck lean. " but nothing about the brake booster, and so we cleaned it up a bit and tried to get more of an understanding of the issue. Now I know that the compromised engine vacuum from the booster air leak is impacting the fuel/air balance. Extremely unsafe. This has now happened many times while I try to get a good diagnosis and help. It's scary, and makes city driving very challenging. On multiple occasions I feared I would hit other vehicles or would have to "creep" at a light to alleviate the airflow issues from braking. If I have to be at a light for more than a moment, I will put the car in park and foot off the brake. I'd rather risk being honked at or hit, than have the engine dying on me in traffic. When I was able to get to a dealership, I was informed that it was the brake booster. The first thing I found when looking up that part for the 2013 Ford Edge was the recall. The dealership says my VIN was not covered, but it seems more than coincidence that this is the exact problem, now confirmed by the dealership. The part is faulty, and should be replaced by oem.

67 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2021 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 12/04/2025

My vehicle was recalled by the manufacturer for possibly defective intake valves. The manufacturer did a destructive test on the valves, this test consisted of running the car at 4500 rpm (approximately 120 mph) for a period of approximately 50 minutes. Since this test my car has undergone 3 transmission repairs. Any of these conditions could have resulted in being stranded on the road or possibly losing control of the vehicle, the test only makes the assumption that if the valves did not fail during the test they will continue to provide adequate and safe service. This is not necessarily true. The valves may fail on the highway causing loss of control, I believe that my vehicle was damaged by this test. My vehicle has a little over 30, 000 miles and had no damage before this test. The manufacturer should make this good on the intake valves by replacing them on the 90,000+ vehicles subject to this recall.

68 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2013 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 12/01/2025

I have several different things going on. First of all my rear turn signals do not work, nor do my rear hazard lights. I've taken it to a mechanic who has extensively looked at this and has determined that it's the body control modular and is suggested replacement. I have been waiting for several months for this part to come in but he keeps telling me it's on back order. Also, my radiator fan/assembly went bad and had to be replaced. Upon the mechanic installing the new fan assembly, I had numerous fuses blown and that is when my blinker and hazard light issue started. This is a major safety concern as signaling the direction that you're turning is very important to other drivers. Additionally, it is against the law not to use signals. I'm constantly in fear that someone is going to rear in me because of my inability to signal when switching lanes and or turning. Additionally, my back up camera stopped working shows a black screen with a notice to contact the dealer. Another issue I have is that my door ajar light is illuminated all the time. I often feel unsafe and fear that the door may just come open at any time, I am unable to lock my doors with the internal lock , which means my doors are left unlocked while I'm in the vehicle. Also, the interior lights stay on for awhile when car turned off, thus putting more strain on the battery, which I've just replaced. Plus, the dome light will not go off until you accelerated to about 20 mph, however, when putting the car in reverse there's no way to get the lights to turn off in this causes visibility issues at night. That in conjunction with my backup camera not working makes it a very dangerous situation when going in reverse. I also detect the odor of gasoline which lingers in my vehicle for some time after getting fuel. I'm scared that there's a leak and if so the potential of a fire is very concerning. And I've noticed that my gas mileage is not really good and I'm not sure if that's related.

The torque is shuttering like crazy. I took it into Ford months ago multiple times and they said they had no idea because nothing was coming up, no codes or anything. I have been religious with maintenance checks and whatever they recommend at the dealership. Today my check engine light went on and the cores that came up were about my torque shuttering. Ford released a TSB about the shuttering on my make and model and saying the course of action is to replace the torque converter. I called Ford and told them all this and they quoted me thousands and said they aren’t liable for the repairs. How are they not responsible when this is a manufacturing issue? the car is unsafe to drive and Ford even released a TSB but they refuse to fix it.
