For past couple months have had issue where car "stalls". . . Feels as if in neutral. . . Will not rev. . . After being stopped at stop light. Concerning because there is no warning as to when event will occur. Extremely dangerous. Have been stuck under major intersections and nearly rammed from behind on each occassion. Wrench symbol comes on when occurs. Have taken to dealership and was told that my Escape needs a new throttle body. Have been without my car for past week because the part is on "emergency backorder" from national supplier. I have filed complaint with Ford and have been told that a supervior would contact me. . . Has been 1 wk and they have not called back. Have called 3 times total. Dealership refuses to pay for rental. . . So I am footing the bill for that at this time. This issue needs investigation. . . If a past is on "emergency backorder" there must be a national problem with this throttle body issue. Please investigate this issue. . . It is dangerous. Recall this part! for all those exerpiencing same problem. . Make sure to call Ford and get a case #. . . Call: 1-800-241-3673. Do not rely on dealership to report issue. The more people who report the issue, the more likely something will be done.

38 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 03/06/2013

Driving down the road at approximately 45 mph and truck had a momentary loss of power, like it was not getting fuel. Did not stall and we continued down the road. It happens at various speeds and sometimes once and other times multiple times. Gear and speed do not appear to be a factor. On two of the worst cases the power train / throttle control "wrench" light was illuminated, but of course after turning off vehicle and starting it back up and driving to dealership, the light was off and the truck ran fine. Nothing was found the first time it was taken in. The second time I pressed them about it and they came back with over $975. 00 worth of needed replacement parts (throttle body, mass air flow sensor, fuel injector flush and spark plug replacement @ 56,000 miles.

40 Car Stall problem

Our 2009 Ford Escape is stalling and surging. The Escape suddenly decelerates like it is stalling out, on other occasions it accelerates and revs the engine really high then drops back down.

41 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 12/16/2012

I was driving my vehicle in the center southbound lane on route 93 through the thomas p. O'neill tunnel in boston when all of a sudden, without any warning, my car stalled. The red engine light and oil light came on and the car began decelerating. There was a tremendous amount of traffic and I am unbelievably lucky to have avoided an accident. I guided the car to the right lane (there are no breakdown lanes in the tunnel). I turned the car off and restarted it and was able to continue my drive to my destination. I have read that there is an investigation into the throttle body on this vehicle. This is incredibly dangerous.

42 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 12/12/2012

As I was turning into my driveway at about 5mph my vehicle stalled halway in the driveway and halfway in the street. The red engine light and oil light came on. I put the vehicle in park and restarted it. There were no lights on the dashboard at that time and I was able to drive into the driveway.

43 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 11/28/2012

First incident occurred end of November, car stalled while traveling on rte 7 in CT. Brought the car to Ford where I was told the diagnostic box registered the issue was with the fuel sensors. The fuel sensors were replaced and the car had no issue until April. In April, car stalled again. I brought it to the dealer and the box did not register anything. Last week (may 21st), I left my office to go on lunch break and the car stalled 4x. I drove (?) the car straight to the dealer which is less than a mile away. The car registered that it was the throttle body issue. Since this is a well known issue with these cars, the part is back ordered with an unknown completion date. The dealer then cleaned out my current throttle body and told me that this was a temporary 3 mos fix. This morning 5/29, the car died again 4x on I-95. 2 of the 4x it stalled, I was in near accidents. This is a widely documented issue with Ford and it's incredible to me that there hasn't been a recall on these cars. This is a very serious safety issue.

44 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 11/15/2012

While driving on a busy highway my car stalls out and shuts off forcing me to pull over and turn the key to off position, waiting several minutes before allowing me to turn the car back on and having to rev the engine for it to turn completely over. A couple miles down the road while coming to a stop or slowing to a stop the car does this again. This will happen about 4 times a day while driving and will happen for about 2-3 days, then will run like it should without incident. About 4-5 months later it will start up again, while driving the car will stall out and this happens several times a day while driving, for a few days. I've taken the car to autoshops to try and figure out the issue and no one seems to be able to detect the problem. This not only is scary, but extrememly dangerous.

45 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 11/14/2012

My 2009 Ford Escape stalled (engine running but no forward motion and no response to accelerator) while driving. This happened while attempting to enter heavy traffic. I was almost rear-ended by oncoming vehicles. The problem was diagnosed as a problem with the throttle body by dealer. I had to pay to have the throttle body replaced. This is known defect, very similar to NHTSA action # dp12006: ". . . Vehicles that were diagnosed as failed throttle bodies with diagnostic trouble codes p2111, throttle body stuck open, and p2222, throttle body stuck closed. The petitioner indicates that the owners of both vehicles reported experiencing repeated incidents of stalling. . . " Ford has "released a number of technical service bulletins that cover a wide range of vehicles and throttle body issues related to hesitation and stalling, including 08-18-2 and 09-23-5. " this is a serious safety issue. I contacted Ford (both corporate and the dealership) and they have indicated that they will not take action to address this issue until a recall is initiated by the NHTSA.

46 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 09/15/2012

I recently read in a newspaper about an engine probe for Ford vehicles and would like to add that I have also experienced this problem with stalling and/or surging engine in my 2009 Ford Escape limited. I believe my car had experienced this "limp home mode" on the circuit board. On this particular day, I was driving in traffic and then all of a sudden I felt as though I could not accelerate the car at all. The rest of my trip home (approx. 25 miles) the car wouldn't let me surpass about 20mph. I was very scared but wanted to at least get the car closer to my home. I thought the car was done for. Yet, after letting the car rest for about an hour at home, I started it back up and it drove fine. I just wanted to share this experience of yet another person who could contribute to experiencing a malfunctioning circuit board.

47 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 02/22/2012

In February 2012 (mileage approx 32900), I experienced jerking upon accelerating as my 2009 Ford Escape was changing gears. The dealer assessed it as a computer malfunction and reprogrammed the computer. My wife and I have had intermittent problems with jerking upon accelerating since. Then, on 10/20/2012 (mileage approx 38000), the vehicle stalled when my wife was accelerating to enter traffic on the interstate highway. Thankfully, she was able to get out of traffic without getting hit, and she and our 18 month old are ok. The dealership is replacing the throttle body. Not only was acceleration a problem, the seals on the front axle broke and spilled axle fluid on the drivers side, so the dealer is refilling the axle fluid and replacing the seals.

48 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 01/03/2012

First incident 1-3-12, took to Ford dealship, they replaced the throttle body. Then on 8-10-13 the car just died going up my drive way, but it cranked right back up. Then on 8-11-13 the engine quit agan going about 10 mph. It cranked right back up. I took it in to Ford dealershp on Tuesday 8-13-13 and they could not find anything wrong. I , then saw on the news a report about Ford Escapes stalling and the throttle body issue. This example on the news happend on an expressway. Fortunately they were not hurt. My question is how do I know for sure if the throttle body is bad again on my Escape. ? it stalled 2 times while moving, but they could not find anything. I am afraid to drive in heavy traffic.

On March 5, 2012, the vehicle stalled again, and the battery symbol illuminated.

The contact owns a 2009 Ford Escape. The contact was driving 25 mph when the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact mentioned that she was able to restart the vehicle after a couple of minutes. 51 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 08/19/2010

I was driving on the highway when the SUV started to decelerate. I was traveling at 70mph. The rpm did not change when I pressed the gas pedal. The SUV coasted to 0mph. I had to turn the car off for a few minutes. When I restarted it, it drove well enough to get to the Ford dealership. Diagnostics were run and I was told that it was a "hiccup" and nothing registered in the computer as an alert. I was told to return if it happened again but was told again that it was a "hiccup. " the following week, it happened again as I was leaving work. I drove to the Ford dealership but this time I took video. I was told it was the throttle that needed to be replaced. Possibly a sensor?? I'm not sure. Because the SUV was out of warranty and it was a Saturday, Ford didn't know if my extended warranty would cover the part. They cleaned the throttle, I think, and told me to come back on Monday. I drove out into the road in front of the dealership and the throttle messed up again. The car decelerated. I turned it off, waited, turned it back on and drove back and paid for Ford to install the part. The car still seems to want to decelerate at times but it doesn't and there are no warning alerts/lights. Again, I do have video of what actually happened the 2nd time the SUV's throttle messed up.
