Failure Date: 03/26/2021

Electric power steering assist has failed two times. First time experienced no power steering when starting the vehicle was stationary. The second time it failed was while driving. Vehicle was at a stop light and when taking a right hand turn the power steering failed. The wheel was hard to turn causing my daughter to cross into oncoming traffic.

3 Power Steering Failed problem

Failure Date: 02/12/2021

My 2009 Ford Escape's power steering suddenly failed while attempting to back out of my driveway . The dashboard information area read power steering assist fault. Upon further investigation, I found out that there was a recall on this make and model for this exact problem. When I called the dealer to get it fixed, they told me my vehicle is not on the recall list. I don't understand this seeing that my vehicle has the exact problem that they are recalling these vehicles. Why is that??.

4 Power Steering Failed problem

Failure Date: 01/25/2021

I was driving down the road and came to a stop, my car died. It has been doing this for several months now along with a new development of my steering column shaking. I put the car in neutral to start it back up and it would not crank over did this several times and then it started. I was on a busy road trying to turn left and all of a sudden I had no power steering. The power steering assist said failure. Drove to work about 10 more miles with no power steering in a busy town, not fun. The low tire sensor is on as well, I have had it checked out and nothing is wrong with tires, they are at the proper amount of psi. This is my only vehicle and I am glad I did not have my children in the vehicle with me. This is very dangerous to have done to you while driving. I have had my battery and cylinoid and starter checked and they are fine, but my car repeatedly dies at a stop sign, and when I am slowing down or even when I am trying to pull into a driveway. These two things need to be fixed before someone gets hurt. I don't feel as if I should have to pay for these things since they are electrical and should be put on the recall list. I bought this car last year in hopes of not having to put alot of money into it and to have for a while. It looks like I am going to have to put alot of money into it or may have to buy a different car so I know my children are safe.

5 Power Steering Failed problem

Failure Date: 12/30/2020

Electrical power steering failure came on dash warning and next start up the power steering went out while driving on a rural road.

6 Power Steering Failed problem

Failure Date: 12/27/2020

As I was driving down the road, I applied my brakes and prepared to take a right hand turn into a business parking lot. As I performed the turn, the dashboard message center displayed "power steering assist fault" and the vehicle became extremely difficult to turn/steer. A vehicle was waiting to leave the parking lot I was entering. Due to the power steering failing, I almost collided with the other vehicle.

7 Power Steering Failed problem

Failure Date: 10/30/2020

The electronic power steering went out completely while driving. Luckily I was close to home and able to veer into my driveway. If this had happened when I was driving downtown it would have caused a serious accident. There is not recall for my VIN number, however, other recalls have happened for power steering failure on other vehicles. This should be a recall ASAP before someone is killed and Ford has a big lawsuit.

8 Power Steering Failed problem

Failure Date: 09/26/2020

Power steering fails during driving and stationary.

9 Power Steering Failed problem

Failure Date: 08/31/2020

While driving or stationary, the power steering assist fails and defaults to manual steering. This has happened on city roads, highways, and stationary. The steering wheel will actually snap back while holding it steering. The air conditioner fails to work when this happens as well. This has periodically been happening even though the date listed is today. Ford was contacted and advised my vehicle wasn't manufactured at the specific plant so it shouldn't have any issues (even though it's experiencing the exact issues as the recall) and recommended I take it to a dealership and pay $1500+ out of pocket to correct the issue.

Tl- the contact owns a 2009 Ford Escape hybrid. The contact stated her power steering had failed to operate while driving at various speeds as the power steering fault warning message had appeared on the instrument panel. The vehicle would not restart once the failure had occurred; due to this failure, the contact had believed that the ignition switch had become faulty due to the vehicle's failure to restart. Upon investigation, the contact discovered that her vehicle had previously been placed under NHTSA campaign number:14v284000 (steering). 19 Power Steering Failed problem

Failure Date: 11/23/2019

Power steering failure, 2009 Ford Escape. Was a recall issued? while entering a gas station drive the power steering ceased operating and I was fortunate to have only destroyed a trash can next the the island before halting the vehicle. I understand there was a recall of this Ford model in 2014 for the very problem this car is experiencing , power steering failure, yet I received no such notice to have my car serviced even though I have it serviced at Ford dealerships and still maintain possession of it.

20 Power Steering Failed problem

Failure Date: 11/13/2019

I pulled out of a parking garage and drove about a half a mile through city streets. As I turned left and increased speed to merge onto the interstate, the steering wheel locked up and wouldn't let me out of the turn. With cars coming behind me, I braked and let the car continue in its trajectory towards the side of the on ramp. I put on my hazards, cut the vehicle off and then turned it on again. The steering returned. I pulled to the side of the road and eventually got the courage to attempt to drive home again. I've owned this vehicle since 2010, and this happened twice before around 2012-2013. I had the recall done, however, and I thought the problem was solved. Apparently not. This power steering failure is incredibly dangerous, and I cringe to think of what would've happened if I'd have made it onto the interstate and couldn't steer out of a curve going 60 mph in traffic.

26 Power Steering Failed problem

Failure Date: 02/17/2019

Due to a recall issued by Ford motor company (NHTSA recall 14v-284), jerry's Ford (annandale, va) replaced the power steering system on my 2009 Ford Escape on July 24, 2014, at no charge. At the time, the Escape's mileage was 32,950. On February 17, 2019, the power steering failed when I was driving in heavy traffic a few miles from ourisman Ford (6129 richmond hwy, alexandria, va). With great difficulty, I managed to drive to ourisman, where, two days later, they replaced the failed system at a cost of $2,319. 97. At that time, the Escape's mileage was 54,061. The power steering system that had been replaced on recall lasted only 21,111 miles and fewer than 4. 5 years. The Escape is otherwise in excellent condition and has been regularly maintained since I purchased it in 2008. It's reasonable to expect that the part would have lasted longer, especially since its failure may have caused serious injury. I made several attempts to resolve the issue. On February 22, I spoke with brendon at Ford corporate (800. 392. 3673). He said he could do nothing and suggested I contact the dealer. On February 28, I spoke with chuck jackowski at ourisman, who said he might be able to help and would call me back, but did not call. When I called again on March 7, chuck said he did not yet have a solution, but would follow up and call me on March 8; he did not call. I called chuck once more on March 13 and joon ko answered. I identified myself, joon said he would get chuck, but returned to say that chuck was busy and would call me back shortly. Chuck did not call. I have also written to Ford corporate; no reply.

29 Power Steering Failed problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2019

February 1st 2019 I brought my car to the dealership due to intermittent failure of power steering. The day before the appointment the power steering failed completely. The dealership said it had a recall and performed a software update. After that the power steering worked properly for two weeks. On February 14th I attempted to drive home after work and the power steering was a complete loss. I returned the car to the dealership the next day. They reported the torque sensor had failed and was not covered under the recall. Ford did not adequately prevent my car from the loss of power steering. The dealership originally told me two options were possible, updating software or replacing parts. Now that they updated the software, the recall was cleared off of my car but the problem still persists and will not be properly addressed.

30 Power Steering Failed problem

Failure Date: 01/10/2019

The power steering fails suddenly without warning while driving. You can still steer but it is difficult, sometimes it will fail as soon as you crank the vehicle. You can turn off vehicle then restart and it will be ok. This is a intermittent problem for now. There is a recal but only few models with the correct VIN number. However everywhere on line people are having this issue and the recal will not cover because of the VIN number. The steering should last the duration of the vehicle. This is extremely dangerous and all should be covered under this recal. Not just a select few this problem will occur in motion, or setting still. No pattern.
