My vehicle started having issues with the steering on the week of 1/24/2021. Steering wheel will shake/vibrate when stopped or at low speeds. On 2/5/2021 when I turned on my vehicle I had a power steering assist error and no power steering. Code pulled was b2278 for power steering torque sensor. Contacted my local Ford dealer and since the recall(14s05) was closed out because they had done a software update for it, I am not able to get it fixed. Even though the same issues and error codes are associated with this recall.
So about 3 days ago I got a light on my dashboard it said something like power steering assist failure nothing happened at that time my steering wheel kept shaking for a couple days after that yesterday when I tried to drive my car I couldn't the steering wheel was so stiff and I got that warning again I checked for a hose or something the fuel was stocked up for power steering. My steering wheel can't be moved at all.
My steering wheel began to shake about a week and a half ago. Last night as pulling out my drive way my steering wheel was very hard to turn. O pulled back into my drive and noticed on the dash it read power assist failure. Before this my dash would blink out and I would have to tap it so it will come back on. When it does all the dials would go back into sync . The bad part is if you are not noticing your dash and park and turn off the car it wouldn't crank back up. My tire pressure sensor is on I had it checked and no one and find out which sensor it is. My oil change light want go out even after many oil changes. The company that does my oil change are not able to reset. This has been going on for a year and a half. Until last night when the power assist failure popped up. Please help and assist my vehicle was paid off 5 months ago. I really don't want to purchase another vehicle but I will if I really have to. I like my Ford Escape.
Tl- the contact owns a 2009 Ford Escape. The contact stated that the vehicle's steering wheel would shake and emit a noise whether the vehicle was stationary of when driving. The contact stated the previous owner had the vehicle repaired for steering failure under a previous recall, NHTSA campaign number: 14v284000 (steering). The contact had not taken the vehicle to the dealer. The vehicle had not been diagnosed since the contact has experienced the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue and referred the contact to the dealership (galpin Ford located at 15505 roscoe blvd, van nuys, CA 91343 phone number 818-787-3800) who performed the original recall repair in 2014. The contact had not been able to speak with a representative from the dealership as of yet. The approximate failure mileage was 82,000. Gl.
My wife and I were driving home from work when just before I got on the freeway at a stop light my steering wheel began to vibrate and then I lost all power assist with the vehicle thankfully we hadnt entered the traffic. The power assist is now off and on.
Power steering torque sensor failure resulting in power steering assist loss during operation on the highway. The steering wheel began to shake, then a message came across the dashboard stating that there was a "power steering assist fault" before all power steering failed and manual drive commenced. A mechanic latter confirmed it was the sensor by gathering the error code b2278 which is a steering shaft torque sensor malfunction.
Power steering has gone out. The steering wheel vibrated before it just went out. Vehicle was stationary and when I started it up and tried to back up it was extremely hard to turn the wheel.
I was having problems with my steering wheel shaking, I took it into midas to have it checked and they thought it might be a build up of snow and ice as the weather has been very cold. They said it could also be the steering and to take it to Ford. I drove to see my son in battle creek about 40 miles away and after my visit and on my way home it seemed to be getting more shaky so I went right home and as I turned into the driveway the steering went out. So I called brooklyn Ford and had my car towed to them as they are very reputable. They said that I was the eighth person they had to fix this same problem. Now I think that is eight to many and think something was wrong when there was a recall for this problem on the 2008 models. Brooklyn Ford said the cause was a scanned code-b2278 steering shaft torque sensor malfunction-internal failure to torque sensor. Brooklyn Ford had to replace steering column ( part number cl8z 3c529d), reprogram, clear code, retest. The cost for this was $1,285. 85 and being a retired senior this was a good share of my living expenses. Please research this as it just seems funny that so many cars had to have this done just this year.
My cars electrical power steering failed after I stopped for gas. Prior to this my cars steering wheel would shake when ever the car was running and not in motion, like when sitting at a red light for example. This occurred for about 3 days before the power steering failed. A recall has been issued but my VIN says my car was not included in the recall. I can not turn my steering wheel anymore without a lot of effort making the car to dangerous to drive.
Purchased the vehicle in January 2017. Approximately mid December 2018 a code popped up on my dash "power steering assist fault" and the steering wheel shakes as I drive. I code is continuously on. I contacted Ford, who tell me there was a recall on the 2009 Ford Escape in 2016 for this exact code, but because my vehicle was not assembled in kansas city, that they cannot fix it under the recall and I would have to pay for it out of pocket. I don't feel this is right, as this is a safety issue and could be dangerous if I lose my power steering while on the road.
Tl - the contact owns a 2009 Ford Escape. While driving 35 mph, the contact noticed that the power assist light illuminated on the dash and the steering wheel was vibrating and moving from left to right. The vehicle was taken to the dealer (crest Ford, inc: 22675 gibraltar rd, flat rock, mi 48134) where the technician informed the contact that the power steering assist needed to be replaced. The vehicle had a recall:14v284000 (steering) a year and half ago associated with the VIN and the dealer updated software. The recall is no longer associated with the VIN, but the power steering assist failure had recurred. The VIN search revealed no recalls associated with the VIN. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN had no recall associated with the vehicle and there was nothing they could assist with. The vehicle had not been repaired . The failure mileage was 170,000. Nb.
2 years ago , while driving my 2009 Ford Escape in the city and highway, I had experienced difficulty with the steering freezing while driving. I had to restart the car to free the steering wheel. I took the car to the dealers where I purchased the car. The car was evaluated, they felt that the car was ok and was told that there were no recalls for the car. At this time, the steering wheel shakes and at times the steering is difficult because of the vibrations and freezing. Turning the car off and on frees the wheel but the vibrations continues with a slight touch of the wheel. I took it to a mechanic, who informed me that it would cost 1,200. 00 to repair, however; I could still drive the car if I could stand the noise.
I bought a used 2009 Ford Escape in September, about a month ago, my steering wheel started shaking when turning and then it went a away for a few weeks. Now, it is terrible and I took it into a repair shop for a diagnostic and they handed me paperwork from Ford motor company regarding a safety recall #14s05. After doing some research and calling Ford corporate and a local dealership, Ford will not accept this recall and tells me that my car does not qualify. I did some research on my own and it seems that there are thousands of people that are having this same problem with Ford. Something needs to be done. This problem affects your steering capability and is not safe to be on the roads. Ford is at fault and needs to clean this up.
Tl the contact owns a 2009 Ford Escape. While driving 75 mph, the contact noticed that the power steering fault indicator illuminated and the steering wheel began shaking. The contact drove home and turned off the vehicle. The next morning, the vehicle was started and the power steering was inoperable. The power steering indicator was still illuminated. The vehicle was driven to the dealer (phil long Ford at chapel hills, 1565 auto mall loop, colorado springs, CO) where it was diagnosed that the power steering column needed to be replaced. The contact inquired about a previous recall attached. Since the power steering control module was reprogrammed in 2014, the contact was informed that the recall could no longer be honored. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact due to the age of the vehicle and the reprogramming of the power steering control module, the repair would have to be paid for at his expense. The vehicle remained at the dealer. There were no recalls associated with the vehicle. The failure mileage was 149,000.
Steering wheel started shaking and vibrating at stop lights. This went on for about 3 days then a message appeared on the instrument panel that said "power steering assist fault". After reaching my destination I turned the vehicle off. Upon restarting I had no power steering. I drove the vehicle home then to the delership the next morning. They explained that they retrieved a code dtc b2278 and said either the torque sensor or the steering gear is bad and they would need to tear down the steering column to find out. The estimate for this was $1200 to $1800 dollars. Not having the resources to have the car repaired at the time they sent me on my way. Humorously the power steering was working again after they retrived the fault code. That lasted about two days and no more power steering. This vehicle is like driving in the fifties again. I am a large guy and really have to strain to make a tight curve. I can't imagine what would happen were my wife driving. I understand after a little research that this is a very common problem for Ford and some vehicles have been recalled for it, unfortunately not mine. I want to let you know that the problem is real and the danger is imminent. Would you please check into this dangerous situation of losing power steering before someone gets killed?.
Tl-the contact owns a 2009 Ford Escape. The contact stated that while driving 45 mph, the power steering failed. The contact stated that the steering wheel seized while making a right turn. In addition, the contact stated that the steering wheel began to shake violently and made a knocking noise. Bill brown Ford of livonia, michigan was made aware of the failure but the vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 143,000. Ad.
First noticed steering wheel shaking and a noise. Soon after power assist fault sensor came on. Next steering wheel was so tight could not turn it. I was driving when power assist sensor came on. Then I was sitting in my driveway trying to pull out when steering wheel got tight.
Power steering fault message came on and steering wheel has been shaking amd drifts when driving on road. Went to Ford dealership in kirkland, wa on may 31,2017. They said thst no recall had been found in vehicle. Estimated repairs at $1500.
My vehicle has erratic steering issues. The electric steering caused my vehicle to literally drive right off the road into a tree. The steering wheel shakes back and forth while sitting still and causes the vehicle to drift all over the road at any given time without warning. It is a known issue, but Ford is making me pay to fix the vehicle by replacing the entire steering column of the vehicle to include electronics. Even the Ford service manager says in all his years he has never seen an entire column fail. However, after a quick google search, this is a huge issue for Ford and they are well aware of the problem. This issue will cause someone to die. It has already caused me to get in an accident by making the steering randomly jerk causing the vehicle to swerve off the road.
Initially the "power steering assist fault" warning would pop up on my dash and go away, this happened several times over the course of a couple weeks before it stopped showing up and I didn't notice any problems. About a month later I noticed extreme shaking of my steering wheel, both while in motion and in park with the vehicle still running. After a few weeks of the steering wheel shaking, one evening the "power steering assist fault" warning came on and stayed on. The following morning when I started my car the light was still on and there was no power steering.
The power steering went out while I was driving. Luckily, I was driving straight and not in the middle of a turn. The power steering will reset sometimes when I turn the car on and off. If the power steering is working when I first get in the car it will guaranteed fail within 20-30 minutes of driving. I've done research and found there are multiple power steering recalls and class-action lawsuits against Ford for these issues and expect them to apply this recall to my vehicle. Before the power steering went out, the steering wheel would shake at any speed above 65 mph and it continues to do so.
Steering wheel began shaking while the vehicle was stopped and at low speeds while driving in rush hour traffic. The shaking stopped for 1 day - then began again. Two days following the dashboard sensor read - power steering assist fault. Power steering failed at this time. I contacted Ford - as I believe this to be directly related to a large recall 14s05 1. 3m vehicles. Ford courtesy cas9191445. Ford has denied this is related to the recall - advising this vehicle VIN does not match the referenced VIN's- however I am experiencing the noted issues. What assistance can the NHTSA provide adding this vehicle into the recall. I contacted local Ford dealerships in hope of receiving assistance/guidance - this also was unsuccessful. Ford has referenced TSB no. 14-0016.
First sign of problem occurred in August 2014 when I put keys in ignition it would not allow me to start car. It was locked, or frozen up. I tried to move steering wheel but could barely move it. After about 5 to 7 minutes of trying to turn wheel, it unlocked and I was able to start vehicle. Next problem occurred in early September when turning wheel to back into parking space, it froze up and locked. I slowly turned wheel until it kind of unlocked. The next time the steering wheel froze was in late September. While making a right hand turn, I lost my power steering briefly. I was able to get off the road and parked for a minute or two before starting back on the drive home. It was unnerving to feel like I had no power over the car. As of yesterday, October 4th, the steering wheel vibrates when vehicle is idle. I came home from work, parked it and have not driven it since.
The contact owns a 2009 Ford Escape. While driving 60 mph, the steering wheel began to shake violently and became inoperable while the power steering assist light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the steering torque sensor failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the vehicle was repaired under NHTSA campaign number: 14v284000 (steering). The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
Power steering cuts out of its own accord. However when the steering works the steering wheel shakes and twitches, pulling the steering while it moves a little each time. I have to use both hands to steady the wheel as I drive on the highway everyday. I also noticed that the power steering will cut out mid turn, resulting in many pothole strikes, I am surprised this hasn't been recalled due to the fact that I would never be able to swerve around another car in time or heaven forbid a person or animal and that is a major safety issue.
The power steering has become very erratic. When I turn the vehicle on, about half the time when I try to turn the steering wheel it is very hard to turn. I have to shut off the vehicle and restart it, until the wheel moves so I can drive the vehicle. And then, the steering wheel shakes when the engine is idling, and it seems very free moving. I went to my mechanic and he stated the part to fix it was over $900 plus the labor to put it in. Needless to say, am very nervous about operating the vehicle, plus am pretty disappointed in Ford that they haven't recalled and fixed this very expensive, dangerous, and prevalent problem.
At first steering wheel would vibrate on its own when car was started. I called Ford customer care and they said they had never received a complaint about this. I made an appt. To take car to len stoler dealership in owings mills, MD. Today 3/2/15. When I started the car to take it in my message panel read " power steering assist fault" and the power steering was completely gone! the dealership says the steering angle sensor needs to be replaced and that it requires replacing the entire steering column! I went online and there are many, many complaints regarding this from other Ford Escape owners. The Ford dealerships charged from $1200- almost $1900 to fix this. In may 2014 there was a recall of some Ford Escapes regarding the power steering issue. I was told my car was not included. There should be some additional recalls for this issue. . If you check the internet you will find I am not alone! there are so many complaints I would think that Ford would honor a recall and fix this problem before someone is seriously hurt. I was lucky enough to have my husband drive my car to the dealership because I could not navigate turning the steering wheel to get there. Thank you.
I was driving down a side road about 5 min after leaving my house when I lost power steering and had to pull over. I shut the car off and restarted it and the steering worked but the steering wheel shakes when it is in the center position. Now everytime I start the car I have no power steering. I tried turning the car off and letting the electrical system to reset. But that does nothing. When I took the car to the dealership they said I would need to replace the steering culumn and they would charge about $1300. Now as I am starting the car if I pull the steering wheel to the left I have power steering but the steering wheel still shakes if it is in the center positing. If I just start the car like normal the power steering never works. This has only happened once while going down the road but could be very dangerous for any driver and the cars around them. Many other Ford Escape owners seem to be having the same problem.
On Saturday, March 26, 2011 I noticed the steering wheel shaking as my 2009 Ford Escape idled. This 'shaking' is random; it doesn't occur all the time. Since around the beginning of March, there have been times that, when I start the vehicle, the power steering freezes. To rectify it, I shut off the vehicle, waited a few moments, re-started it and power steering was restored. One time however, the 'freezing' occurred when I turned a corner. On March 29 the power steering 'froze' again. I turned the vehicle off and then on again a couple of times to restore power steering but it was still absent. I drove about 60 miles with no power steering. I took the vehicle in to the local Ford dealership March 30 and was told I need a new steering column, at a cost of $1200 for parts alone. I was also told in the interim, between now and when it is repaired it is safe to drive. My 2009 Ford Escape has been well-driven for the two and a half years I've had it, with no collisions, etc. That may have compromised it's quality and performance.
