Tl the contact owned a 2014 Ford Escape. The contact stated that antifreeze had been leaking out of his engine as his service engine light had illuminated on the instrument panel. The contact had taken his vehicle twice to an independent mechanic and was given various reports on the vehicle. The contact then took the vehicle to conway heaton inc. (810 n 3rd st, bardstown, ky 40004) where he was unable to pay for a diagnosis and stated that he had linked his failure to NHTSA campaign number: 17v209000 (engine and engine cooling) which included VIN. The dealer informed him that the recall had already been performed prior to him owning the vehicle, the vehicle was then returned to the contact and the recall was not performed. While driving the vehicle at 60 mph, he noticed that the temperature gauge had been rising indicating that his vehicle was overheating. As the contact attempted to pull he vehicle over, the engine fault service engine now warning light had appeared on the instrument panel. As the contact exited his vehicle, he opened his hood and saw a flame arise in his engine. The contact immediately called the authorities and after 15 minutes of waiting for the fire department, the entire vehicle became engulfed in flames. Once the fire department arrived, the fire was extinguished. The vehicle was destroyed, no injuries were reported. The vehicle was towed to a local police station were in remained in their possession. The manufacturer had been notified of the failure and they explained to him that they would not be able to rebuild the vehicle, they offered no further assistance. The vehicle was destroyed. Service engine light came on, I turned on car to take to mechanic and the car shook bad and choked itself out. This happened twice. I left sitting for a day, drive to mechanic next day, car started no problems driving. Mechanic diagnosis follows: - found misfire dtc, removed spark plugs and found coolant intrusion in cylinder 3 item description this is the entire process needed to either rebuild or replace the vehicle's engine. This is a process needed when the vehicle's engine is in need of serious repair. Reason without replacing or rebuilding a damaged engine, the car will not be able to function and will be left useles.
While driving, my vehicle suddenly shows a low coolant than engine overheat message. It immediately begins to shut down, speed rapidly decreases and power steering is lost. I must stop the car, place it in park, shut it off, wait a few minutes than restart it. Service engine light remains on. The vehicle was traveling between 55 and 65 mph on the major freeway where the posted speed limit is up to 70 mph, 3 lanes of traffic. Since the loss of power is immediate and I have no control over it, I have very little time to get out of the way of other vehicles before I am in crawl mode. The vehicle was just into the dealership for repairs and I was told it was fixed. Coolant is not low, engine had not overheated and there is no warning that there is an issue until 30 seconds before it starts shutting down. Has happened twice now and it was supposedly fixed after the first time. My vehicle has no open recalls and it has been into the dealership twice in the past 2 weeks with regards to the overheat issue.
It only happens when you drive the car for a while (45+ minutes), turn it off, and then start it up 15-45 minutes later. It will start but then within the first 100 yards it will go sluggish and stall. When I try to give it gas that doesn't help. I have to turn the car off, put it in park and start it back up. A few times it's stalled 3 times in a row. Once it gets going good it's fine. It's always fine if it's been off for a while (first thing in the morning or starting after work). Eventually the service engine light came on, I took it to a shop, a guy diagnosed it, changed out a sensor and the fuel pump. It didn't help.
