Had a check engine light come on 2 weeks ago. Took it to the dealer and they reprogrammed the pcm and inspected cylinder bores. Dealer also changed the oil at that time. Shortly after that the light came on again, took it back to the dealer they've had since last Friday and now report the vehicle may need a replacement engine block. Vehicle has 10,565 miles and is just 13 months old. I have researched and found many other similar instances on the internet.

Check engine light came on with a p0302 code, indicating misfire. Took it to the dealer that verified coolant intrusion, indicating 21n12. Mileage exceeding the allowable coverage under 21n12, but it was covered by an extended warranty. In addition to having the short block replaced, the wiring harness and pcm were soaked with oil, requiring additional replacement of both. A month prior, the flex plate also failed and required replacement under warranty.
Recall 23s27 (NHTSA 23v-380). I do not feel that Ford is offering owners a safe or effective repair, leaving serious risk of injury or death. 1. 7/2022. Recall 22s47. “engine oil and/or fuel vapor may leak and accumulate” which “may ignite resulting in an under hood fire, and increasing the risk of injury. ” 2. 8/8/22. Ford media to upi, “in the event of an engine failure” above issues may occur. 3. 5/26/23. Recall 23s27 acknowledges, “engine could fail prematurely,” leading to the above. 4. 5/26/23. Nhtsa part 573 safety recall report: cause identified. “isolated engine manufacturing issues have resulted in 2. 5l hev/phev engine failures involving engine block or oil pan breach. Likely driving “final solution” (paragraph 7). “in the event of an engine block or oil pan breach, the hev/phev system continues to propel the vehicle allowing the customer to continue to drive the vehicle. As the customer continues to drive after a block breach, oil and/or fuel vapor continues to be expelled and accumulates near ignition sources”. 5. 2023. “23s27 chronology rmisc-23v380-7289,” links recall 22s47 with 23s27. Vehicles which had undergone the repair specified by 22s47 still had issues, and Ford engineers confirmed block breach and correct 22s47 repair. “repair” for 22s47 did not fix the underlying mechanical problem. 6. 6/6/23. Autoblog: “per Ford, the “manufacturing issues” include poor machining of the engine crankshaft and contamination of engine block mating surfaces during assembly. ” “2. 5-liter engines . . . With defects “could be ticking time bombs. ” 7. 5/24. “software is now available to repair [affected vehicles]. ” dealers will “update the powertrain control module (pcm). ” this will not fix the problem. I respectfully request NHTSA investigate and compel Ford to provide the correct and proper mechanical repairs necessary to prevent block/oil pan breach in the first place.

On 1/29/24, I drove around town to run errands and on my second stop, I tried starting the car and it would not start, but it went into "accessory mode". I received several warnings: pedestrian sounder, memory recall failure, front collision sensors, tractions control, check engine light, etc. It also stated it would sound an alarm if we tried turning it on again. I sat there for 10 mins and tried turning it on after getting in and out of the car, looking underneath to see if oil or gas was leaking, which nothing was leaking. I kept trying to start the vehicle with no success, still getting the warnings. My spouse arrived after 15 mins and when she opened the hood and wiggled some cables around, we were able to start the car up and it was like it went through a factory reset as the memory for the driver seat went really close to the steering wheel. We called roadside assistance thinking we need to get this towed to a dealership but cancelled it after seeing it would start and my spouse driving it around the grocery parking lot carefully. When we got it to the dealership, it wasn't having those issues and they couldn't do much for it. On 2/10/24, the check engine light came on. We took it to the dealership on 2/12/24 and they told us the pcm malfunctioned. They did a software update on the pcm, which the dealership said has fixed the problem for now. Just worried this is going to happen again and will happen when I'm in a place where maybe my spouse can't come or we are traveling long distance. Prior to this incident, the dash (mph, gas level, oil level, engine temp) of the vehicle, which is entirely digital, flickers like there is a short in the wiring somewhere. It doesn't happen every time we drive it, just sometimes (maybe 35% of the time). This was happening shortly after purchasing the vehicle in July 2023. I have a feeling that something relating to the electrical components, battery, chip/software/firmware in the Ford Escape needs to be replaced entirely.
The contact owns a 2020 Ford Escape. The contact stated that on almost a dozen occasions, while driving at approximately 60 mph, multiple unknown warning lights illuminated, and the instrument and head unit panels turned off and on and failed to work as intended. On another occasion, while driving at an unknown speed, the vehicle started bucking and lost motive power. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the awd module and throttle body needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 51,486.
The contact owns a 2018 Ford Escape. The contact received customer satisfaction program: 19b37 pcm (power train control module) reprogramming. After the reprogramming was performed, the contact stated that the vehicle failed to accelerate while depressing the accelerator pedal. The check engine warning light was illuminated. In addition, the contact stated there was white smoke coming from the engine. The contact was almost in a crash due to the failure. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to be diagnosed. The contact was informed by the dealer that the pcm needed to be replaced before an additional diagnostic test was performed to determine if coolant had intruded into the engine. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The manufacturer initially stated that the cost of the repair would be fully covered; however, the contact was later informed that the warranty had expired. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 35,176.

The flp sensor, located on the fuel supply line to the high pressure pump, provides the low side fuel pressure input to the pcm so the fuel driver module can be controlled accordingly. The flp pid can be viewed in the datalogger and then compared to a manual pressure gauge per pinpoint test hc in the pced to validate the sensor is working properly. The fusion/mkz catalog has been updated to show the sensor availability.

The contact owns a 2016 Ford Escape. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to the dealer to be repaired under NHTSA campaign number: 22v413000 (power train). The contact stated that while driving 45 mph after picking up the vehicle from the dealer, the vehicle jolted violently several times. The vehicle then reversed independently. Additionally, the gear shifter was stuck in drive. The brake pedal was depressed but the vehicle failed to respond. The contact turned on the hazard lights and beeped the horn continuously to prevent other vehicles from approaching her since she had lost control of the vehicle. The message “transmission fault. Service now. " was displayed. The vehicle then shut off. The contact was able to restart the vehicle and veered to the side of the road though the vehicle would shut off intermittently. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where she was informed that the failure was not related to the recall repair. However, the failure reoccurred while driving from the dealer location. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed that the transmission assembly torque converter, accumulator valve body, and pcm had failed. The dealer was notified and informed the contact that they could not assist unless she paid a diagnostic fee. The vehicle was towed the dealer. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and advised the contact to take the vehicle to another dealer. The failure mileage was approximately 74,426.

Vehicle shuts off while driving. Steps to reproduce issue: keyfob is inside vehicle in drivers coat pocket, mobile phone is intermittently connected to vehicle via usb cord, vehicle is on, engine running, start/stop is on, vehicle is driving then stops at a stoplight, start/stop engages and idles engine for at least 15 seconds. When foot brake is released vehicle shuts off, instrument cluster, radio, infotainment, etc turn off. To restart vehicle transmission must be placed in neutral or park and vehicle on/off button pressed. Vehicle restarts, powertrain malfunction error displays and infotainment system appears to be rebooting and displays welcome message such as before it was set up. Vehicle was immediately brought to dealer; blackwell Ford in Plymouth mi both times. Dealer could not reproduce issue or pull detailed information beyond general fault. Dealer performed 1265od eec system diagnosis quick test, 1265od45 engine module diagnostic pin point test, 12650dx1 eec system diagnosis quick test twice, road tested, ids test p164c, ppt aa in pced manual, reset kam and retest pass, and upon request checked that pcm firmware was the latest version. Dealer requested permission for extended mileage testing with skytracker installed after 2nd fault, permission was given. Issue occurs approximately every 30 days driving 2 trips/day. Issue presents a high and severe risk of fatal incident because vehicle is stopped at a green light and may be rear ended by an approaching vehicle at high speed. Because vehicle is off, airbags and other safety equipment may not activate increasing risk of fatal incident. Vehicle was bought new with 10 miles recorded on odometer in February of 2019, as of April 2019 the issue has occurred twice. Once on February 22nd and once on April 3rd.

While going onto a freeway onramp at approximately 45 miles per hour, the vehicle suddenly lost all power, all lights came on, the ability to steer and brake was affected by total power loss. The vehicle did not display any issues leading up to this but nearly resulted in an accident by the inability to control the vehicle and get it off to the side of the road. After being towed, the auto shop diagnosed a p0354, p0351, p0355, p0352 ignition coils, and pcm failure. My research shows there are multiple claims of this occurring and it is definitely a safety issue.

2005 Ford Escape. Consumer writes seeking reimbursement for vehicle repairs. The consumer stated the computer control module caused the coils to fail. The consumer stated the there was a TSB for the failure and believed this should be a recall. The vehicle had to be pushed out of the highway and into a parking lot.
Safety hazard and serious life threatening situation exists when this problem occurs on the highway and especially in front of a semi tractor trailer truck doing the speed limit. Numerous times, (12 times between 14,000 and 15,363 miles) the 2016 Ford Escape has had complete power loss during acceleration causing vehicle to abruptly begin shaking, lose power, lose steering, lose braking and immediately shudder to a stop. Service engine light comes on, message reads: engine fault service now. (see attached photo) engine remains running. If one tries to continue driving the vehicle stumble and won't shift from low gear without a very hard torquing sound. This Ford Escape broke down in front of a Ford dealer and the code read by this dealers computer is p0322-pcm. According to an internet search the p0322 code definition: if the pcm (powertrain control module) detects an erratic, interrupted, or otherwise unexpected input signal from the distributor or the crankshaft position sensor, it will store the p0322 code, and the check engine light will be turned on. On this vehicle the code is only active when the fault occurs, and the engine is running. The codes do not store in memory. Ignition can be shut off, the warning message disappears and many times the car is able to be driven again for miles before reoccurring. The leasing dealer states they have a process to follow in order to fix the problem. They have to replicate the problem or they do nothing. Using my printout from another dealer with the code is meaningless to them, even though they know the source of the problem and that the condition is life threatening. They say that if I feel the condition is life threatening then do not drive the car. A formal case has been opened with Ford customer assistance, however they only notify the service manager that there is a problem, which he already knows.
Loss of 2nd and 4th gear/ limp mode. I purchased a used 2008 Ford Escape with 69,980 miles. No complaints till hit 89,000 miles when all if a sudden there was no 2nd and 4th gear. I was getting ready to pull into traffic. Put foot on accelerator whent to about 16mph and refused to ho faster. Rpms reved up to 4000+ the yellow wrench light came on. Once got to 20mph hard shit into gear . And did this again at 40mph except wont shift into higher gear. Was told it is in limp mode. So I did internet research on this. Said over 368 complaints just on this specific problem, specifically on the 2008 Ford Escape. I tried resetting the pcm. Did not fix problem. Replaced the throttle control sensor. Did not fix problem. Now that leaves the 2nd & 4th gear band assembly. I called and got 3 estimates, they ranged fron$1900-$3000. Part cost $89 and a new transmition cost $1700. Replacing this part can be done without having to remove transmition and said to about 2hours. My complaint in if this is a common issue why aren't you replacing part or fixing this? there has been several investigations and still nothing! this is the first Ford I purchased and will be the last! which is a shame because I love my truck. Just can't afford to fix it. So I will park it and pray Ford owns up to their faulty parts and assimbly and fixes this. And I will make sure everyone I know and everyone I meet knows about how Ford knowingly put in defective parts on many vehical so they could make money fixing them. Think about it. All these ( throttle control sensor and 2nd & 4th gear band ) go bad at 89,000 mile.

Vehicle was in drive and suddenly lost power. The accelerator was pressed but the vehicle stopped driving forward even though the engine was running. The engine did not rev. The dash light indicating the transmission disappeared. The vehicle suddenly jumped into gear so hard I suffered whiplash. It did this several times as I attempted to get clear of heavy traffic. I literally thought I had been rear ended at one point as the car jolted so hard. After getting out of the roadway, the transmission failure service now light came on. This is consistant with the pcm wiring harness recall done on other 2013 Escapes but was not covered for my particular vehicle. The jolts to the vehicle kicking in gear destroyed the transmission. I was in motion at the time, in bumper to bumper traffic. I was lucky not to strike or be hit by another vehicle. I have contacted Ford but they state my car was not covered under that recall and that they will not help me.
The contact owns a 2005 Ford Escape. While driving approximately 25 mph, the engine, steering, and brakes failed without warning. The vehicle was restarted and driven to the dealer where it was diagnosed that all six emission coils failed and fractured the pcm. The six emission coils, power train control module, and spark plugs were replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The approximate failure mileage was 140,000.
The contact owns a 2005 Ford Escape. While driving approximately 45 mph, the instrument panel illuminated and the engine abruptly shut down. The gear shifter was placed in the neutral position and the vehicle was coasted over to the side of the road. The vehicle was restarted and driven home. The vehicle was hooked up to a handheld diagnostic machine and displayed, "bad pcm and bad coils". The manufacturer was notified. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 130,000.

On may 6, 2016 we purchased a 2016 Ford Escape titanium 2. 0 awd. On 6/22/16 I brought the vehicle in for service due to a shuddering when the car is shifted from reverse to drive and gas is applied. The service department of seymour Ford of jackson , mi, who have been very helpful, performed a reprogram of the pcm. On 8/15/16 I brought the vehicle in with the same shuddering complaint. Seymour phoned the Ford hot line to ascertain if there were any additional recalls. Seymour was advised by Ford to compare like vehicles on their lot. They tested a 2015 and 2017 Escape "both had same issue" . I was informed by the service department to be sure to keep my foot on the brake when shifting from reverse to drive and wait for the gear to engage than accelerate. I found under complaints. Com other owners throughout the us who have made the same complaint. One has even had Ford acknowledge there is a problem and they are working on it. I informed the service department that I understand they did not build the car; however, if this continues to occur I would be back. They informed me they were there for me. That said it appears either Ford is not telling their dealers there is a problem and or they are telling their dealers to stonewall. Either way Ford should at least make it known to the dealers and the owners of the vehicles that there is a problem and they are working on a solution. We paid good money for the car and we are retired on a fixed income, although we are under warranty, I do not want to be constantly going to the service department to have the car looked at with the same results. Thank you for your consideration in this matter.
While accelerating, clunking noises heard in the transmission. When at 80 kilometers an hour, speed was suddenly reduced to approximately 30 kph. . Causing a sudden deceleration almost caused me to be rear ended by another vehicle. According to Ford, this is a known problem in the vehicle. . It cost me over $1000. To replace the pcm. . This is a direct safety issue. . I could have been killed because of a faulty part. The mechanic at the Ford dealer informed me the problem exists because the pcm is placed in the main engine compartment and in a cold and damp environment, fails regularly. They replace these pcm's weekly. . So it is not just a problem for me, it is a money maker for Ford. This needs to be classified as a recall issue and repaired. .

The contact owns a 2010 Ford Escape. While driving at 60 mph, the vehicle hesitated and the speed decreased to 40 mph. The vehicle stalled. The contact was unable to steer the vehicle, but was able to pump the brakes and stop the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was determined that the gears in the transmission had been stripped. The check engine light, oil light, and battery light illuminated on the instrument panel. The contact stated that the dealer previously changed the fuel gasket twice, but that did not correct the failure. The vehicle was taken to another dealer who determined that the transmission failed. The vehicle had not been repaired. The contact spoke with the manufacturer in regards to a newsletter regarding replacing the throttle body and reprogramming the pcm under investigation pe13003. The manufacturer stated that the dealer did not feel the repair was warranted and the manufacturer declined to pay for the repair. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure mileage was 85,000.
Started off from a light and the car hesitated concerned gave it gas and it stuttered,I rolled to a stop and had it towed to a repair shop. Evidently the powertrain computer module is bad several complaints that Ford put the wrong spark plugs in this Escape which after time ruins the pcm. Seriously why hasn't a recall been issued for this problem? had I been traveling faster would have been an accident as I was in morning traffic. Now looking at a $1000 in repair bills. Ford needs to fix this problem.

The car entered into failure mode effects management (fmem) mode or limp mode when it was on high way, malfunction indicator lamp (mil) or wrench lamp were both on the dash. The power and vehicle speed was getting reduced, even when I was trying to accelerate the car. The manufacturer was contacted and did not offer a remedy. The failure and current mileage was 113,000. The VIN was not available.
I have had this vehicle for one year, and it would be impossible to recount all of the times it has stalled on me while driving it. It has stalled in parking lots, in heavy stop-and-go traffic, making turns, pulling into my driveway, and accelerating to enter the freeway. It started within two months of purchase. I took it to a Ford dealership in August of 2014 where they performed recall work which included throttle body replacement, reprogrammed the pcm, and a power steering advisory item. The vehicle continued to stall. The stalling seems to happen just after fill-up and happens intermittently until the gas gauge reads less than three-fourths and at low speeds. I filled it up yesterday, and it has stalled seven times since then. It happens when coasting to a stop or making a turn. On the freeway at high speeds, it runs well. The issue was compounded in February when it was discovered that the evap canister was full of gas. It, along with a tube hose assembly (bl8z9d667b-af), was replaced only for it to happen again. The purge valve was stuck open and had to be replaced along with a second evap canister. The stalling issue continued, and the dealership found the canister to be saturated with gas again. This time, they said they would have to replace the gas tank to correct the issue as they believe it is a valve built into the tank which seems absurd. I have not done this since they quoted a cost of over $2000. Even if I have that done, it will only correct the canister issue, not the stalling. I have read hundreds of posts on the internet from people who have the exact same problems with the same model year as I have. These are both issues that I believe to be the result of a defect in the manufacturing of this vehicle due to the volume of owners who are experiencing the same problems. I feel Ford needs to step up and correct these issues.

While driving approx 20 mph in a community to car slowed down to a crawl. It would not travel faster than approx 5 mph. Happened again a week later. Took it to garage the computer read p2111 - throttle actuator control tac system - stuck open. Description; this powertrain control module pcm fault status indicates the throttle plate is at a greater angle than commanded. Possible causes; binding throttle body stuck open, tac motor circuit open, tac motor circuits are cross-wired, tac motor harness circuits are shorted together, damage pcm.
My Ford Escape 2005 was working well without any warning. Suddenly after turning the car shut down. After restarting there was not enough power. Went to Ford authorized repair center and was told this was a known problem with a TSB 10 -18-10, faulty spark plugs make radio frequency interference which make coils on plugs and powertrain control module (pcm) to malfunction. All six spark plugs and coils were replaced and the problem persists, only solution is to change pcm. This problem can happen at any time, after any mileage, without any notice, these vehicles should be re-called and Ford should pay for these as it is a defect from fabric.
