36 Carrier/rack problem of the 2013 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 06/26/2014

Car was driven in the morning and returned to the garage at about 1030am. Approximately 4 hours later the car on fire, my dad’s neighbor woke him from a nap, the fire department was called and they cut the battery line and put the fire out. The entire inside of the car is melted and totaled. The fire department investigator the day of the fire said it was "airbag bracket on the left side above the passenger door", and the roof above the airbag was a hotspot. Ford is not being responsive, the dealer referred us to the toll free customer service line. They took the information gave him a claim number and asked him what he wanted! my dad’s name address and phone number is below, I am his daughter and my email address is below. He is 81 years old and very upset and stressed about this.

37 Carrier/rack problem of the 2005 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 04/08/2014

The right rear wheel well is severely rusted and shock is no longer attached. You can see the interior of vehicle from rear fender well. Frame is aslo begining to crack in this area too. At this point the vehicle is not safe to drive. This seems to be a problem for many others with this same make and year. What does it take for Ford to realize this is a defect. Someone is going to get hurt or even a loss of life if nothing is done. Now I have a vehicle that was driven daily sitting in my driveway because it is unsafe to drive.

38 Carrier/rack problem of the 2014 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 02/03/2014

On February 3, 2014 while driving on I-95 a stone flew up off the road and cracked the windshield. Had the windshield repaired by safelite. On March 12, 2014 the same thing happened a second time on a different stretch of I-95. Had safelite repair the windshield. This morning April 6, 2014 again on I-95 and the windshield got cracked for a third time. Have driven for 53 years with only one cracked windshield previously and have had three within 62 days!!! greatly concerned that anything larger than a small pebble may cause the entire windshield to disintegrate while driving at 70 mph on the interstate. Will take to Ford dealer tomorrow or Tuesday for them to examine.

40 Carrier/rack problem of the 2001 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 06/28/2013

When vehicle is at a stop with the brakes applied at either a red light, stop sign, or traffic, the car jerks to move forward. This does not happen all the time, it has been doing this since the beginning of the year. Ford dealership replaced an abs ring that was cracked. They said, this is causing the vehicle to move forward because the abs is trying to engage.

41 Carrier/rack problem of the 2005 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 05/30/2013

The rear wheel well where the shock is located the whole frame panel is cracked, it was covered up from a previous owner or company. The car dealership I'm purchasing from would not take responsibility for it and I explained the hazard in me driving or keeping the vehicle and I took it to several body shops and was told it happens with these vehicles frequently and one shop had already done 3 of the same areas. There is no recall or information about the vehicles issues but this is a danger to drive.

42 Carrier/rack problem of the 2005 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 04/14/2013

While driving a loud crack/pop was heard from the passenger rear wheel and then there was road noise. When we stopped there was a large hole in the wheel well around the shock mount. All the metal has rusted through. The shock has no attachment left to the upper body, only along the bottom edge. When the vehicle bounces it moves independently of the shock in that corner. I opened up the interior compartment, removed the carpet and trim pieces to get a look and found a hole that is large enough to put my hand through. This car has less than 78,000 miles. The tires and brakes were replaced in the fall and no signs of damage were present at that time due to the undercoating being in place.

43 Carrier/rack problem of the 2001 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 03/05/2013

I purchased a 2001 Ford Escape from commonwealth motors in richmond, va. After purchase the dealership was to inspect an issue with the reverse lights as they wouldn't go out. After the vehicle was brought back I noticed a piece of rusted metal fell from around the door panel. I looked underneath & discovered massive corrosion & rusted crossbars, frames, gas tank, shocks, etc. Everything under the vehicle was rusted. So, I contacted the dealership and expressed my concerns and was told that the vehicle runs so I should be happy. Well, I felt my safety was in question so I began some research. What I learned was the vehicle was not purchased from "carmax" as the owner stated, but that it was purchased from "carmax auction". So I contacted them and luckily got a copy of the bill of sale. To my disbelief the bill of sale states this vehicle has frame damage. So I equipped with this bill of sale, met with the owner again. He said the car doesn't have a frame, thus this was an error. He would not agree to reason and told me I purchased it "as is". As the days went on more and more began to fall apart. Less than 60 days after purchase, the transmission shifted because the brace was rusted away causing the components within the transmission to crack so I had to get it replaced/rebuilt. Mechanic says the transmission was hanging down & amazed it hadn't fallen out. The corrosion was so bad he had to weld a new brace to hold the new transmission but it is welded to the front bumper bar because nothing else will support its weight. The subframe cradle cracked 2 days before recall 14s02. I don't have another vehicle so I had to get it fixed. Is it possible other parts are are built with the same material as the subframe? my car is like a cavity that was left untreated. It was purchased in ohio where it resided for years. I feel lost. I have before and after pics.

44 Carrier/rack problem of the 2005 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 02/28/2013

I had been hearing rattling from the rear passenger side for about 3 weeks. On around January 28th I was driving home from work and heard a loud noise. I later discovered a large crack and hole on the inside passenger panel. After further inspection I discovered the passenger side rear wheel well had a whole section missing and the shock I can move with my hand. After doing some research online I have discovered that several 2004/2005 Escapes have had the same issue. This is clearly a defect. It needs to be addressed and a recall needs to be done.

45 Carrier/rack problem of the 2001 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 01/28/2013

Vehicle had a recent recall 14s02. Ford installed a bracket to correct the issue. The problem is that the whole car is corroded. I recently had an inspection done and was told that I would not pass inspection as the frame was completely separated from the rear control arms. So, I took it to a frame shop to learn that my car should be condemned. That there is no amount of repair that will fix this. That it is beyond repair at this point and I should not drive it. I was told that per the recent recalls for corrosion this should be reported. It is a definite defect and based on the year of the vehicle this should not be happening. They suggested that something more complex is wrong here. Even the work performed by Ford isn't going to hold up because it's too badly rusted and there's nothing to hold it together.

46 Carrier/rack problem of the 2010 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 10/15/2012

Substantial amount of moisture collects on the inside of the windshield after a heavy rain. Both the driver's and the passenger's seat track assemblies started to rust as a result. The car smells like mold. Took the car to a Ford dealership (in nc where I was stationed at the time) in November 2012 and it was discovered that the drain holes in the right ride door (rear) were never punched out. That was corrected; however, the moisture problem continues. At the nc Ford dealership, it was also discovered that the rear hatch window gasket leaks. It was resealed, but not replaced. Took the car to a MA dealership in August 2013 for same leak issue. The gasket needs to be replaced. Why was this not done before in November? a window gasket is supposed to last 5-6 years not less than 3 ! car is still collecting moisture - problem not solved.
