The contact owns a 2014 Ford Escape. The contact stated that the heating system and the defroster failed. The automatic remote also failed to activate the system heat. The contact had to let the engine run for a few minutes to be able to heat the vehicle. The dealer performed a diagnostic which was unable to locate a failure code therefore the dealer advised the contact that there was not a fix for the heating failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 1,500 and the current mileage was 2,400.

I was driving on the expressway. The roads were clear, flat, and smooth. Outside temp was in the 20's. I have been driving for about 30 minutes, after letting the vehicle warm up for 15 minutes, when the rear window exploded for no reason on the express way. There were no bridges or overpasses for anything to fall on it. The rear window defogger had been on for about 15 minutes prior. I recently purchased the vehicle used from a private party. I had driven it less than 200 miles since my purchase. Approximate time of incident 16:36.

A/c not cooling, after checked by dealer I was told the complete system was damaged by coming apart from the inside out. Complete a/c and lines replaced. Ok for about 8 weeks, now same problem no a/c and dealer will not stand behind their work, nor will Ford motor. They want me to pay again to have unit checked and they are not even willing to give me a loaner for the 3 days they claim it is going to take them to find the problem. Ford states I have to pay for the check and they are unsure if they will help me pay to the repairs again.

Visible particulate matter of unknown origin coming from interior heating/cooling ducts of 2009 Ford Escape. Dealer kept car for 2 days to "blow out" the system and eliminate the problem but it still persists, causing me to cough and sneeze. Dealer states the white residue is not harmful but I do not agree and would like to have samples tested for toxicity and harmful effects from continuous inhalation.

I was on my way to work 7am. It was snowing lightly and I briefly turned on the rear window defroster to melt the snow. Approximately 1 mile from home I turned off the defroster while sitting at a red light and heard an extremely loud pop. I looked around and did not observe anything unusual. When I looked in my rearview mirror I saw the defroster wires hanging with pieces of glass attached and the rear windshield wiper motor assembly hanging by a thread, I realized the loud noise was my rear windshield exploding. I headed back home to arrange to have the glass replaced - final cost $369. 15. The rear wiper motor was damaged during the explosion. After the windshield was replaced it made a loud vibrating noise that was not there before. Research on the internet indicates that other Ford Escape (04, 05 & 06) owners have experienced the same exact potentially dangerous occurrence. . Read more...

The contact's husband went out in the morning to turn on the defroster. After letting the vehicle warm up for a while she got in the vehicle. While traveling to work she realized back window was shattered. The vehicle was taken to a dealership. They were unable to duplicate the problem. The repairs will be made under warranty.
Whenever using the air conditioner, using dash controller to direct the air out the dash vents, air also comes out the defroster vents, causing condensation to fog up the lower part of the windshield. This is a safety issue. I have taken the car to the selling dealer, southway Ford in san antonio TX, and red mccombs Ford in san antonio TX. Both dealers were able to reproduce the complaint, but offered no repair. They both claim it is a "normal operation" I requested from both dealerships to have the Ford regional representative look at the car. As of yet, no one has contacted me.
At times of heavy rain or wet snow the interior windows fog severely. They fog so badly that condensation will run down the inside of windows resulting in an unsafe driving condition. I have tried numerous methods of tweaking the controls but can not seem to keep the windows defogged adequately. When my wife and kids are in the car the problem is worse than when I am alone. I avoid driving the car at night with them when the weather is wet because I worry about being able to see safely. I am working on trying to fix the problem but thought strongly enough about this to notifiy you here. Sincerely, joel r glass.

We purchased the vehicle named in this complaint in oct. 2000 and within four days of the purchase returned it to the dealer because we experienced gasoline fumes (not exhaust) coming through the air vents with either heat/air or a/c on. The dealer kept the car for over a week and said that nothing was wrong with it, though service people smelled the gas fume smell. We returned the car a second time as the smell was getting stronger. It occurs on warm starts, never when the car is started up cold. The fume smell is apparent for 5-10 minutes, and thins out when the car is running at high speeds and air is coming in. The second time the dealer had the car they kept it a week and could not fix it. They agreed to replace the vehicle with another. Ten days later we took ownership of another vehicle exactly like this one. Forty-eight hours into driving it the gas smell was noticeable again. We notified the dealer who said that Ford has no fix for it. The dealer had no comment or idea on when/if/how this would be resolved. We went out to the internet and in several locations, edmunds. Com and yahoo Escape club among others, we found testimonial after testimonial of customers owning the v-6 Escape, and the mirror car, the Mazda tribute, having exactly the same problems we have experienced. This is clearly not an isolated exception with our vehicle. One person experienced his car burning to the ground with 800 miles on the odometer. We want to alert you to this problem and the fact that Ford/Mazda are being totally uncommunicative to the customer about this serious design flaw. We do not know if the car is even safe to drive. Our dealer has no information on a fix and has not offered to take this car back. We intend to meet with them again, but if they follow the same suit as most of the dealers that other troubled Escape customers have approached, it will be a problem.
Gas fumes smell was coming through vents, causing health hazard. Consumer has taken vehicle to dealer 3 times, but had no solution.
Since driving vehicle off lot, I've notice a fuel odor coming from the underhood area into the passenger cabin through the heating/cooling vents. This regularly occurs during warm restarts and when idling in traffic with a warm engine. Odor is more noticable with dash vents blowing. Fuel line recall was acted upon but didn't provide solution.
There is a gasoline odor that comes through the hvac system during a warm re-start; never on cold start. Outside air temperature also seems to have a bearing on the odor. The gasoline odor is not apparent when outside temperature is below 32 degrees. The odor seems strongest on the right hand (passenger) side of the engine compartment.
