Vehicle was parked in my driveway. This happened at about 10:30 a. M. I had removed some items in the rear of the vehicle and then shut the rear tailgate. The rear tailgate glass had not be opened and was closed as usual on the liftgate. The liftgate was closed in the normal fashion. I was in the process of walking away from the car after closing the tailgate when the rear tailgate glass exploded. Nothing had struck the glass from either the inside or outside to cause this to happen. I received some minor scratches on my hand. The glass exploded as far as 6-8' behind and to the sides of the vehicle as well as all over the interior of the vehicle.
I was traveling on the hwy at 70mph and heard what sounded like a shotgun blast. I looked around and heard what ended up being glass falling into my rear seat. My rear panoramic glass had shattered and blown upward in a way I've never seen before and I had no idea what caused it, as there were only clothes and a box in the rear seat. I took it to Ford and made a claim which was denied. I am confident this problem is a manufacturing defect, but Ford says this breakage would only happen upon installation due to using tempered glass. I don't believe that because nothing hit mine and still, it shattered. I also have a leaking roof, which may be related to this problem.

Both of the hinges on the rear liftgate glass were cracked and splitting. The local dealer said that this could allow the rear glass to fall off in traffic causing both damage to my truck and to other motorist. I feel that this is a safety issue and should be recalled as an inferior part for Ford to be using on their vehicles.

Our Ford Escape was parked at the grocery store. After putting grocery bags in the back I shut the tailgate and the back window exploded. Ford would not cover this since its past the factory 3 year warranty. No explanation for how this happened has been provided.
On Sunday, November 3, 2013, at approximately 8:40am, I returned to my car with several bags of groceries. I opened the rear door and placed the bags inside. When I shut the door, the rear hatch window exploded into a thousand pieces. There was glass everywhere inside the car and in the lot. It was a cool morning (maybe 45 degrees f), but not particularly cold.
Rear window glass explosively shattered while vehicle parked in garage. Research on internet shows this is not a unique problem and has happened to others with this kind of vehicle and this vehicle year. Seems like a potentially dangerous situation. Luckily, nobody was nearby when it happened.
My vehicle which is a 2010 Ford Escape has 2 major safety issues. This is now the third issue with my 2010 Ford Escape where the rear window shatters whileclosing the gate. This is a known issue with Ford and they will not fix. Glass shatters into thousands of pieces and projects 10-15 feet in any given direction. Yet, Ford will do nothing to fix. This is very unsafe where I have had glass shot at my face and I also have a dog that is often put in the back of the vehicle. The only way Ford will do something is if I pay. I also wonder how many people have not filed complaints thinking this is a fluke accident and may have gone through insurance. I know it is no fluke since this is the third time this has happened and talking with Ford they acknowledge the issue. There should be a recall on this vehicle. I have filed two other complaints with the NHTSA. The second is with the throttle body. The car will loose all power at varying speeds. I have lost power on the highway and the car almost stalls. The technical (not a Ford one) that I brought this to said it was a common issue but Ford was doing nothing about this. I have filed complaints with the NHTSA and there are many other complaints but there is nothing being done about these issues. Ford refuses to fix them.
On Feb 22, 2013 I experienced a problem with my 2010 Ford Escape, while closing the rear liftgate my back window completely shattered - resulting in my having to replace the window which cost me $466. 83. After some research on the internet, I found the Ford knows of this problem and it has happened on other vehicles - my problem occurred while the vehicle was stationary and also in the early morning hours. I also incurred minor cuts and lacerations due to cleaning up the broken glass. I believe since Ford motor CO. Knew of this problem and failed to notify owners of this, I should be entitled for reimbursement of the cost for repairing the window, since it was a defected product.
As I was coming out of work to go to lunch I walked up to the car and saw all sorts of glass on the ground and then looked up and saw that my rear window had blown out. The rubber that holds the window was on the outside of the car. I had a police officer come out and look at it and he determined that it was not vandalism of any type. It was a bright sunny day and about 28 degrees. It was parked in the parking lot and it just blew out. I am grateful for that because I drive quite a ways to work on a very busy road and if that had happened while I was driving it may of caused a serve accident.

Vehicle was parked in a lot of a grocery store, opened hatch and put grocery in back of hatch. When I closed hatch door the window exploded sending glass inside the back and on the ground. Temperature was below freezing and there nothing that hit the glass to cause it to shatter. Did not close hatch door with any excessive force.
I was driving on the expressway. The roads were clear, flat, and smooth. Outside temp was in the 20's. I have been driving for about 30 minutes, after letting the vehicle warm up for 15 minutes, when the rear window exploded for no reason on the express way. There were no bridges or overpasses for anything to fall on it. The rear window defogger had been on for about 15 minutes prior. I recently purchased the vehicle used from a private party. When closing the rear hatch of the 2010 Ford Escape, the glass shattered. Temperature below freezing at the time and matches TSB: TSB-11-2-9. No reason for the glass to break at all. Glass shattered and cut my finger. Small chunk of glass had to be removed from finger.
I filled my gas tank at a holiday gas station/store in escanaba, mi about 6 p. M. , November 21 while traveling. I filled the tank, locked the vehicle, and went into the store for a snack. When I returned to the vehicle, an employee was sweeping up glass from my back window which she heard explode. The window was completely gone. There was nothing against the back window or the hatch back that would cause stress. Fishing equipment was lying flat on the floor. I drove 200 miles home with no window. Besides the employee witness, I filed a police report with the escanaba police. I contacted a Ford dealership and was told to take pictures. I sent documentation along with the pictures to the dealership. That was not good enough for Ford. I was told to take the car to the dealership where the body repair manager took pictures and sent them to Ford who came back denying the warranty coverage on the glass "because it cannot be proven that this was a Ford glass defect. I drove 200 miles round trip wasting an afternoon of my time. I have contact and talked with Ford customer relations a half dozen time. I asked the witness to call Ford customer relations to verify that I was not even in the vehicle at the time of the glass explosion. Glass few from 10 to 15 feet in small, deadly pieces. Luckily, I or someone else was not standing behind the car. I have not opened the back window for months finding it easier to remove item by lifting the hatchback door. In contacting Ford customer relations, I was told that once a decision has been made, it could not be reversed. I asked to speak to someone in authority and was told that once a decision was made by Ford, it could not be reversed and was given an address to write my complaint.
My family was about to leave on a trip, my wife closed the rear trunk of our 2010 Ford Escape, and the window on the rear trunk shattered completely. There was absolutely no obstruction; the window exploded on impact. Broken glass fell in all directions: in the car, in the parking lot, on my wife, and around the neighboring cars. We cleaned up the glass on the ground and drove the car to our dealership. We have a full bumper-to-bumper warranty, but were told this type of damage is "unwarrantable. " as it was explained to me, any instance in which a window shatters completely and glass shards fall inside the car, Ford concludes there must have been an obstruction and does not cover the cost of replacement. Ford's corporate office said they could not overturn the serviceman's conclusion unless there was a recall on the part in question. I believe this is an abuse. The window is clearly defective: I have been driving for seventeen years and never witnessed a window explode as this one did, and then I find that at least 18 similar complaints have been filed with the NHTSA for the same issue. To insist that a part must be under recall before they honor a warranty is an unrealistic hurdle that Ford puts in place.
I shut my tailgate and the rear window shattered on my 2010 Ford Escape. No one was injured, but it definitely made a huge mess and it was a shock to have this happen. This is the second issue my vehicle has had this year. A few months ago the throttle control went on the vehicle. Both not covered by Ford, due to the warranty over. I have many concerns that a two year old vehicle could have these type of things going wrong with it. My other concern is Ford won't acknowledge these issues with recalls and many of my fellow Ford owners are having the same issues. Please check into this for us. The rear window of my 2005 Ford Escape blew out with no warning. I pre-started the car for approx. 3 mins, turning on the heat and defrost. I was traveling during the holidays and went to a car wash. When the attendant went to close the rear lift gate the back window glass exploded outward and completely shattered. I have had the window replaced at my expense with the revised window components listed in the Ford TSB 11-2-9. The car wash provided me with security camera footage of the incident.
Yesterday I drove around town running errands in my 2002 Ford Escape and it was fine. Came home last night (temperature outside was around 27 degrees outside) and parked it in garage. When I went out to garage next day (14 hours later) to leave again I noticed my Ford Escape had it's back glass that was completely shattered out of it and all over the floor of the garage. All doors to garage were shut and locked. This explosion of glass happened all by itself after being parked there the night before. Also have an issue with air bag light and check fuel cap light that has both been staying on and cannot get either to stay off!! worried vehicle is gonna fall apart some day before I get my child to his school one morning. . Not dependable vehicle after all!! :( seems I have read many many other complaints online about these problems from Escape owners wanting to know. . Are there no recalls for the backglass?? or even anything else for this vehicle?? feeling unsafe for my child to ride in now!!.

Moved some items from rear of vehicle to back seat area. Closed liftgate, then closed rear passenger door. Rear liftgate glass shattered a few seconds later. Both window shocks shot outward. Glass landed both inside and outside of vehicle. I took photos with my cell phone.
