37 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2014 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 10/27/2016

Vehicle stalls at least opportune moments, I. E. Highways/roadways. Drove it for 30-40 miles. Shut it down for 30 minutes. Start it back up, start driving, vehicle stalls within 30 seconds to one minute. Restart the vehicle, it would buck and stall repeatedly. If you let it cool down, it would run for a length of time before it would act up all over again with the above mentioned steps repeated. Had it in the dealership (autonation Ford - bradenton FL) for almost 3 full months as they tried to find the issue, in 4 separate trips. Each time they were confident that they found the problem. 1st was a lose wire on the mechanical fuel pump. Not fixed. Drove for 1. 5 weeks. Same stall issue. 2nd was a mechanical fuel pump replacement. Not fixed. Drove for 1. 5 weeks. Same stall issue. 3rd. Problem couldn't be found. Drove for 1. 5 weeks. Same stall issue. 4th was a fuel line sensor replacement. Seems to work so far. These vehicles seem to have a bad issue with the fuel system with numerous recalls on a wide range of model years.

38 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2011 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 10/22/2016

Gas smell inside car. On third or fourth day of recurring smell, took to service. Service tech had difficulty finding leak, as their was no visible drips to the ground. Returned to driving while the gas smell became stronger. Returned to service, this time he found the source to be the fuel pump. The problem was actually the elbow plastic neck leading into the fuel pump was spewing gas from an invisible hairline crack. The leak stops when the car is turned off. The location of the fuel pump is under the rear seat - causing a thick smell of gas and extreme danger of explosion. I have never had repair work on that part. This apparently is due to manufacture flaw in materials. I am a new widow and looking at a $650 replacement fuel pump. I considered dealing with epoxy but am afraid this will cause further damage and risk.

39 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2009 Ford Escape

This happens in all conditions. Engine will lose power and start stuttering like it is missing. Exhaust will stink and darken enough so that it is visible. Accelerator will not work as normal. Vehicle will eventually stall as service light comes on. Fuel pump replaced twice in 2 days. Mechanics find no codes stored. Throttle body replaced under Ford customer service program. It reoccurred the next day. This needs to be recalled and fixed. The vehicle will slow and stall suddenly and is a safety issue.

Failure Date: 01/10/2015

Car would not start. Ford replaced the fuel pump.

47 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2013 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 11/20/2014

The vehicle had been turned in to brown daub Ford in nazareth, PA where it was reported to have died twice on the road. They then reported it died on them twice also. They replaced the engine fuel pump as this is the ecoboost there are two pumps (one at fueltank one at engine) and returned the car. It drove for 30 minutes and died again in an intersection where it almost caused a serious accident. The dealership wrote up the complaint as car wants to stall which is not what was said. They were told it died and was dangerous, they returned it with the same mileage as they took it in so it was not test driven. This is a very dangerous problem and will cause a death. The none turbo engine has a recall for wireharness splices not done properly and that is what this sounds like. Please look into this.

48 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2009 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 04/05/2013

2009 Ford Escape with 69,282 miles spontaneously goes into limp mode, causing deceleration in traffic. Car cannot be driven until it is stopped, the engine turned off, and fuel pump restart button pushed. The car will then start and can be driven. This has happened at least 4 times now in the past 12-18 months. It has happened at highway speed (60-70 mph), city speeds (35-40 mph), and today at 15 mph going down my street. It has happened each time driving on smooth, paved roads. One incident was driving home at approx. 6:45 pm on smooth, paved rural highway at 55 mph after 15-20 minutes driving. Had to call tow truck and have car towed to dealership. Dealer found no problem. One incident was Nov 2012 while driving on smooth, paved highway at approx. 60 mph after driving approx. 2 hours. Most recent occurrences were 4-4-13 at 6:45 pm after driving 55-60 mph for 20 minutes on paved road. Next incident 4/5/13 at 11:30 a. M. Driving 15 mph on residential street, engine cold. Today the engine light went on and despite stopping the car, pushing the fuel pump reset, and restarting the car, it still will not accelerate and cannot be driven. I will now have to have my car towed to the dealership and, according to Ford customer service, repairs paid for at my expense. There is currently no recall and there needs to be. This is a known problem that has generated many complaints. The situation is unacceptable and makes the car unsafe to drive. I am afraid to drive this car on the interstate. An unreliable car is not worth owning. This is my first Ford and it will be my last. I will not buy another Ford.

The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 30,000. Oo.

Now has 7000k miles, still hesitating at various speeds and has begun not starting. Towed to dealer, fuel pump replaced due to weak pressure. Two days later, would not start and hesitating still. Towed back again did start, smelled bad, but no codes or problems found.

51 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2001 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 04/23/2004

On two separate occassions (04/23/04 & 04/30/04) my 2001 Ford Escape just stopped running with no warning what so ever. After the 1st incident a recall repair was completed (drivetrain module) and thought to have fixed the problem. Exactly a week later the vehicle just stopped running again. The dealership couldn't be certain, but the problem seemed to be a faulty fuel pump. The repair was made, costing nearly $500, and so far no problems. Had this problem occurred on a busy interstate, the outcome could have been very disastrous.
