2013 Ford Escape steering stops working, both sitting still on start-up and sometimes when moving in traffic. The display presents "power steering assist failure" the vehicle is steerable for me, 70 y/o man with good upper body strength, but impossible for my daughter, the owner of the car. Ford tells me it is a faulty electric power steering assist and for about $2000 they will replace the steering rack! it seems this should be a recall event given the danger involved with high speed driving. The vehicle has 87000 miles on it.

Car drove great one second then next power steering failed vehicle was stationary.
While driving on a county road, my wife experienced a sudden loss of power steering. The instrument panel behind the steering wheel displayed a power steering assist failure notification. When she restarted the vehicle, the notification went away and the power steering returned. We took the vehicle to greg darnell Ford in midwest city, ok for diagnostics and were told a gear assembly in the steering column had gone bad (part no. Hv6z-3504-cd). The repair cost is $2129 after a 10% military discount. The problem is very similar to NHTSA campaign 14v284000 for the 2008-2011 Escape, but the recall has not been extended to cover more recent model years. Fortunately, my wife was able to brake and safely exit the road, shaken but without incident. However, had she been traveling at highway speed, the sudden loss of power steering could easily have resulted in loss of control and a potentially deadly accident. Several others have reported the same issue with 2013 Escapes on carcomplaints. Com. When I contacted Ford customer service, they dismissed my concern and told me there was nothing they could do.

Power steering was lost while driving. Power steering is now in manual mode. Power assisted steering has failed. Dealer says that this vehicle is not part of the recall that has affected several others. Same components as other recalled Escapes. As Ford dealer charged $150 to diagnose the issue.
When started, vehicle displays 'power steering assist failure-requires service' warning and power steering is lost. This has happened three times over the course of two days. It does not happen every time the car is started, it just randomly happens. I drove home last night from work with no power steering, and along with this issue my usb ports would not charge my phone. My phone recognized that it was plugged in, but not enough power was being supplied to actually charge it. I'm nit sure if that is linked with the power steering module, but I've never had that issue before all of this mess.

Power steering failure, 2009 Ford Escape. Was a recall issued? while entering a gas station drive the power steering ceased operating and I was fortunate to have only destroyed a trash can next the the island before halting the vehicle. I understand there was a recall of this Ford model in 2014 for the very problem this car is experiencing , power steering failure, yet I received no such notice to have my car serviced even though I have it serviced at Ford dealerships and still maintain possession of it.

Ford very well knows that this is a serious safety issue. The power steering assist fails unexpectedly. They are putting $$$ over safety.
I pulled out of a parking garage and drove about a half a mile through city streets. As I turned left and increased speed to merge onto the interstate, the steering wheel locked up and wouldn't let me out of the turn. With cars coming behind me, I braked and let the car continue in its trajectory towards the side of the on ramp. I put on my hazards, cut the vehicle off and then turned it on again. The steering returned. I pulled to the side of the road and eventually got the courage to attempt to drive home again. I've owned this vehicle since 2010, and this happened twice before around 2012-2013. I had the recall done, however, and I thought the problem was solved. Apparently not. This power steering failure is incredibly dangerous, and I cringe to think of what would've happened if I'd have made it onto the interstate and couldn't steer out of a curve going 60 mph in traffic.

Power steering failure, battery light on. New battery and new alternator installed. Still having intermittent failure of power steering.
Driving to an appointment started into a curve in road when power steering failed in vehicle. Could barely control vehicle to get off of road. No warning, noises or lights came on. Very scary. Checked for recalls and was told my vehicle VIN number is not included but the year and model do have a recall on steering problems.
On Saturday October 5, 2019 at 11pm our 17 year old daughter was stranded with a power steering module failed error. We took it to the closest mechanic which was on the corner of the road she was stranded at. The car could be driven but she could have never steered it. It took everything for my husband to be able to get it there. The car only had 106,690 miles on it and should have been covered under warranty but we didnt have time to take it the dealership and they aren't willing to reimburse us. The 2009-2013 had a recall for this same issue but the 2014 isn't covered under the recall. It seems like it still should be a recall issue.
The electric power steering system failed in the middle of an intersection and almost caused an accident involving other vehicles.

Power steering defect. My cars power steering has failed and I was told I need an epas rack, the code is u3000 pscm internal failure. I have 72,875 miles on this 2013 Ford Escape. I tried to pull out of a parking space at work and the steering wheel would not move. I understand Ford has had to recall over 1. 1 million SUV's for power steering defects. This repair will cost me $1,800 to repair. I am told my VIN # is not included in the recall but with all the problems the other 1. 1 million SUV's have had I feel like mine should be included in the recall. Joe cooper Ford of edmond, ok has my vehicle now for repair 405-475-9000. I can only imagine what would have happened if I had been on the highway doing 60 mph and this power steering failure would have happened.

Random power steering assist faults. This causes the power steering to fail at speed making the car exceptionally difficult to control, possibly causing a crash. I do not feel safe driving the car as this can happen at any time.

While driving the Escape through city streets, an error showed up on the dash and said steering assist failure. Needs service. at that point, the powering steering stopped and it became extremely difficult to turn the steering wheel. This has happened twice to the car in the past 24 hours. I have restarted the car with each incident but after already driving, the error came back up. I believe that this can be due to an electrical issue or power steering component failure.
Power steering failure. Ntsa campaign number:14v284000. Ford recall number: 14s05. Call placed to Ford customer relations at 800-392-3673 on 04-15-2019. Representative said Ford will not provide no cost service for this safety issue and any cost will be customer responsibility. Next step? contact attorney?.
While driving power steering completely failed. The wheel jerked a bit but I was able to maintain control and pull over. When I attempted to turn the wheel I had no power steering at all. I took to my mechanic and was told the steering rack needed to be replaced at a cost of $2000. Car as 100k miles. My concern is there was no codes or fault displayed on instrument cluster. The next day I drove the car and the power steering was fine. The next day driving it failed again. Still no service needed light or notification on instrument cluster. Car is unsafe to drive for someone not strong enough to turn the wheel without power steering.
