I started my vehicle and I got a warning beep saw the display saying power steering assist fault. My steering wheel was vibrating and a loud motor type noise was sounding. I would drive and I could feel the steering wheel shimmy while driving. The next day I started my car and display showed right away the power steering assist default. And I had no power steering from then on. Other 2008s had recalls for power steering but my VIN was not on the list for recalls.

The steering wheel shakes when changing lanes at different speeds and it feels like there is no steering assist when doing this. I tried swapping tires but this didn't change things. It's really noticeable on the highway. I only have 47800 miles on the car.

Steering;at slow speeds and especially at idle the steering wheel jumps back and forth. Jittery is how I'd describe it. At slow speeds it feels like a loose wheel when the steering wheel shakes. Throttle body; recall is expired. I purchased the car (second owner) about 2015 from a dealership in orange county, CA. I never received any communication from Ford about this issue. Oem throttle body failed in 2019, which was independently diagnosed and I replaced the defective component. No recourse at the present with either issue. Both are significant safety issues known throughout Ford forums and including the manufacturer.

My vehicle started having issues with the steering on the week of 1/24/2021. Steering wheel will shake/vibrate when stopped or at low speeds. On 2/5/2021 when I turned on my vehicle I had a power steering assist error and no power steering. Code pulled was b2278 for power steering torque sensor. Contacted my local Ford dealer and since the recall(14s05) was closed out because they had done a software update for it, I am not able to get it fixed. Even though the same issues and error codes are associated with this recall.

So about 3 days ago I got a light on my dashboard it said something like power steering assist failure nothing happened at that time my steering wheel kept shaking for a couple days after that yesterday when I tried to drive my car I couldn't the steering wheel was so stiff and I got that warning again I checked for a hose or something the fuel was stocked up for power steering. My steering wheel can't be moved at all.
The steering wheel started vibrating and eventually the steering started shaking and it lost all power to steer. I have been told this has been a common issue with this model and year Escape. It appears to be the problem with the rack and pinion system.
The contact owns a 2010 Ford Escape. The contact stated while driving 65 mph, the steering wheel began to shake and the steering wheel became difficult to turn. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to local dealer (priority Ford 3420 n military hwy, norfolk, va 23518 (757) 583-3673) where it was diagnosed with needing power steering torque sensor to be replaced. Upon investigation, the contact associated the failure with NHTSA campaign number: 14v284000 (steering) however, the VIN was not included. The vehicle had not been repaired as of yet. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 130,000.
My steering wheel began to shake about a week and a half ago. Last night as pulling out my drive way my steering wheel was very hard to turn. O pulled back into my drive and noticed on the dash it read power assist failure. Before this my dash would blink out and I would have to tap it so it will come back on. When it does all the dials would go back into sync . The bad part is if you are not noticing your dash and park and turn off the car it wouldn't crank back up. My tire pressure sensor is on I had it checked and no one and find out which sensor it is. My oil change light want go out even after many oil changes. The company that does my oil change are not able to reset. This has been going on for a year and a half. Until last night when the power assist failure popped up. Please help and assist my vehicle was paid off 5 months ago. I really don't want to purchase another vehicle but I will if I really have to. I like my Ford Escape.
2019 Ford Escape titanium steering wheel shakes/vibrates heavy & makes a loud noise from car (almost sounds like a bad loud muffler sound) at speeds of 35 mph & 45mph when the gas peddle is leveled at speed and also does the same when going up an incline at the same speeds. Also transmission slips between 1 & 2 gears intermittently. Very bumpy ride in the back when going 70 mph on the highway. These issues happen when on local roads & highway ramps. Dealer repair has checked several times. First few times they could not replicate the issue. December 29, 2020 finally got the issue to replicate and put a ticket directly into Ford. I checked back on 1/7/2021 since I bare the heard from the dealer service rep. At that time she still didn't have an answer to a resolution to fix the fault. I called today 1/13/2021 and the dealer repair service rep said it was a characteristic of the model because they informed Ford on the ticket they tested another 2019 Escape with the same engine & transmission and it had the same fault. Car was manufactured 3/2019. Please note I have purchased brand new Ford Escapes in 2002, 2005, 2009, 2017 & 2019. I know how the engine & transmission of a Ford Escape should preform. I still have my 2009 Escape and it preforms better then this 2019. . . Comparable engines & trim package. The faults this 2019 is having are not characteristics of a car they are clearly issues where parts need to be replaced or repaired to operate properly. Ford needs to do the right thing and find what is causing the issue and repair it correctly.

First power door locks quit working, next tail gate won't open, tire pressure dash light warning comes on yet there are no problems. Check motor dash light goes on and off often yet they find no problem. Latest is power steering went out with no warning while driving again plugged into checking machine no problem. Steering wheel shakes continuously while stopped. And believe suspension is giving out. Not a car that I would recommend to anyone. Has horrible blind spots. All occurrences happen while driving or stationary. All this has happened in the life of our ownership. Steering was yesterday Feb 26,2020.

The steering wheel is shaking when driving and when in park. Not sure if safe to drive.
Steering wheel shakes back and forth at idle while stationary and parked. My research reveals that it is a symptom of the failure of the steering torque sensor in the steering column. It seems like it would be covered in Ford recall 14s05, or recall #14v284000 but a cannot find my VIN number included in these recalls.
Steering wheel vibration getting worse by day seat belts in back don't work properly . Sometimes dont work at all breaks dont work after carwash.
When stationary (parked or with brake on) steering wheel shakes vigorously. . . Leading to total loss of power steering after 1. 5 weeks car is no longer drive-able.

The power steering failed, making it nearly impossible to turn the steering wheel. Shortly before the failure, the steering wheel began to vibrate. The failure occurred while backing out on the driveway and turning to pull out , thankfully not on a public street or while navigating the canyon roads in our area. The date of the incident was December 30, 2019.
My wife and I were driving home from work when just before I got on the freeway at a stop light my steering wheel began to vibrate and then I lost all power assist with the vehicle thankfully we hadnt entered the traffic. The power assist is now off and on.

Tl=the contact owns a 2010 Ford Escape. The contact stated that while driving the steering wheel would vibrate at a stopped position. The steering wheel vibrated again and the power steering faulty assist alert light came on. The vehicle was taken to an indeividual mechanic to diagnose the issue . The mechanic told the contact that he pulled up the codes that showed to replace the torque sensor. The mechanic also stated that there was recall out on the issue. The manufacturer was called and stated that there was no recall. They tried to upsell an extendend warranty. The contact got the paperwork with the codes from the independent mechanic and went to the dealer redlands Ford inc. 1121 w colton Ave, redlands, CA 92374 (909) 793-3211. They said there was no recall but offered an extended warranty and referred the contact back to the manufacturer. The failure mileage was 140,000. Tf.
Power steering torque sensor failure resulting in power steering assist loss during operation on the highway. The steering wheel began to shake, then a message came across the dashboard stating that there was a "power steering assist fault" before all power steering failed and manual drive commenced. A mechanic latter confirmed it was the sensor by gathering the error code b2278 which is a steering shaft torque sensor malfunction.
Power steering has gone out. The steering wheel vibrated before it just went out. Vehicle was stationary and when I started it up and tried to back up it was extremely hard to turn the wheel.
Steering wheel vibrates, chatters, and moves on its own accord while vehicle is stationary with the steering wheel left in a neutral position (no force applied left or right). The chattering noise can be heard while the vehicle is in motion with neutral steering wheel forces. This symptom creates extreme concern that the electric steering assist may fail or malfunction while the vehicle is in motion. This issue is not covered under recall according to Ford.
Failed power steering. The electronic power steering system on my Escape has stopped functioning. I had just left a parking lot when the steering wheel on the car got very hard to turn. It was acting like the power steering pump had failed. So, feeling comfortable enough that I knew what was wrong, I drove home to get our other vehicle. Now after doing some research, I found out that this vehicle does not have a traditional power steering pump, but rather an electronic system. I am shocked that I made it home now that I know that the system was fighting my attempts to turn, not just simply not supplying power assistance. I understand that other vins of my vehicle had been recalled due to issues with this system, but mine is not covered. It seems to me that this recall should be extended to other vins of Escape. I no longer feel safe driving this vehicle knowing that this. Prior to this total failure, we had experienced the steering wheel vibrating and motor rpm reduction. This let me to think that it was a traditional power steering pump. I did not take action because no warning codes or check engine lights were displayed and I was not hearing the tell tale whine of a failing power steering pump.
Last week the steering wheel would shake when at a stop. Yesterday we got an error code saying "power steering assist fault". Then the power steering went out when driving on the highway. We learned that there was a recall for this exact failure for our year/make/model of car for the Ford plant where ours was built (kansas city) but our VIN number is not part of the recall. I contacted the dealership and they said there is nothing they can do for us but to charge us full price for the repair.
The steering in my car was affected. First signs of issue were steering wheel shaking while stopped, parked and driving down the road. Then suddenly while driving the power steering went and thankfully I was only going about 20mph. I was not turning and was able to force the wheels to turn off into the side of the road. I was on a city street in a residential area.
I was having problems with my steering wheel shaking, I took it into midas to have it checked and they thought it might be a build up of snow and ice as the weather has been very cold. They said it could also be the steering and to take it to Ford. I drove to see my son in battle creek about 40 miles away and after my visit and on my way home it seemed to be getting more shaky so I went right home and as I turned into the driveway the steering went out. So I called brooklyn Ford and had my car towed to them as they are very reputable. They said that I was the eighth person they had to fix this same problem. Now I think that is eight to many and think something was wrong when there was a recall for this problem on the 2008 models. Brooklyn Ford said the cause was a scanned code-b2278 steering shaft torque sensor malfunction-internal failure to torque sensor. Brooklyn Ford had to replace steering column ( part number cl8z 3c529d), reprogram, clear code, retest. The cost for this was $1,285. 85 and being a retired senior this was a good share of my living expenses. Please research this as it just seems funny that so many cars had to have this done just this year.
Power steering electric. Steering wheel shakes and jerks while parked or driving. Steering column is very noisy. Electrifing.
My cars electrical power steering failed after I stopped for gas. Prior to this my cars steering wheel would shake when ever the car was running and not in motion, like when sitting at a red light for example. This occurred for about 3 days before the power steering failed. A recall has been issued but my VIN says my car was not included in the recall. I can not turn my steering wheel anymore without a lot of effort making the car to dangerous to drive.
Tl the contact owns a 2010 Ford Escape. The contact stated that the electric power steering failed and the power steering warning indicator illuminated. The contact had to apply force to the steering wheel to turn in either direction. The steering wheel vibrated aggressively. Bob poynter Ford, inc (526 s jackson park dr, seymour, in 47274, (812) 522-2040) diagnosed that the torque converter switch needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer and dealer indicated that the vehicle was excluded from NHTSA campaign number: 14v284000 (steering). The failure mileage was not available.
The error message power steering assist fault appeared on the dash board. The steering wheel shakes back and forth even when in park. The steering has become very loose and takes a lot more to steer the vehicle. Moving the steering wheel to the left and right now does not significantly move the vehicle.
The initial problem I encountered is that the steering wheel would shake while the vehicle was in gear though stopped. I took it to a shop and was informed of a technical service bulletin regarding a torque angle steering sensor, which was believed to be the source of the problem. After that repair, the steering wheel no longer shakes upon braking. However, the vehicle pulls hard to the left. The steering wheel has pressure to the right, but no resistance to the left, and is therefore always steering to the left. I did alert the shop to the problem and they made certain it was not an issue with the alignment. They have informed me that the cause of the problem is a faulty steering column assembly which the new torque angle steering sensor is not able to calibrate against. The vehicle is now largely not safe to drive until the second round of repairs are done. The shop where I had the repairs done, believe Ford is aware of the problem with the steering assembly - the reason they believe Ford is aware of the issue is because they called a local Ford dealership and found that the dealership keeps this entire assembly in stock. The choice to keep this assembly in stock, I was told, is indicative of routine need to replace this part.
A vibration sporadically occurs in the steering wheel when idling mostly but not only. At first I thought it was related to the a/c unit but it happens whether on or off. Temperatures are not affected on gages. I believe this was why the vehicle only had 55,000 miles on it when I bought it in 2018. The vibration occurs when moving or stationary when it happens its seems completely random. It has been happening noticeably for about a year now. At least noticeably. Probably unrelated but the vehicle has always had something a little off about the engine when I bought it. It seemed a little louder than it should be and not as smooth I thought it should have been. So it might been an issue the whole time but becoming more noticeable. When it happens it usually happens for 30 seconds to a minute but has lasted longer. Once it wouldn't go away at all until I turned the car off and restarted it. I took it into a Ford dealership about 4 months ago and explained the issue not as well as I am now since more time has passed and thought maybe it was a trottle body valve issue I read about and they said no there is no issue with that. Reading forums it sounds like it might be related to the power steering control. It is causing the steering wheel to vibrate so maybe it is a power steering issue.
