2 Battery Dead problem of the 2000 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 05/01/2014

It started with the radio and windshield wipers not working periodically this went on for several weeks and then on Saturday night 5/31/14 at approx. 11:30 am "christine" showed up and my car was trying to start its self. It made a clicking sound for about 30 mins with the lights going off and on. The sound was like a dead battery sound. Then it would try to start itself. This went on for about and hour and then it finally stopped. I assumed that the next morning my battery would be dead but when I went out Sunday morning it started right up and I was able to rund my errands. This morning Monday 6/2 I went out to go to work and it would not start but the lights came on and it continued to make a clicking sound even though I assumed the battery was dead. I am scared to do anything, like jump the battery , for fear it will explode or catch fire.

3 Battery Dead problem of the 1999 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 04/12/2010

Our battery died because the air fan inside the car would not shut off. Once I got car jump started noticed that many electrical devices were either not working or turning on and off by themselves. These problems continued after I replaced battery. I took it to the dealership and was told that the windshield in 1999 Ford Expedition leaked causing electrical shortages in most electrical components in the car. And would cost $1000. 00 to fix and the windshield would need to be replaced for another $200. 00. After researching this I have found that this is a well known problem in this model but no recall has been established.

4 Battery Dead problem of the 1999 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 10/01/2009

1999 Ford Expedition windshield leaks and shorts out electrical system. Happens when unattended often and turns on lights and other systems so battery goes dead. Had Ford dealer repair one year ago and problem has returned.

5 Battery Dead problem of the 2001 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 03/13/2009

The blower in the front dash would keep blowing even when I took the key out. I had to leave it blowing all night at the apartment complex. . . . I was worried that it might catch n fire. In the morning, the battery was dead. I called my repair shop, they came and jump-started my Expedition. They have not worked on it, yet. I have found and recall that there has been a recall on this make and model (first noted in 2002).

6 Battery Dead problem of the 2001 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 12/01/2008

On the morning of 12/1/08 my 2001 Ford Expedition would not start, battery was dead. I jumped it off and drove it to the dealer. The ac fan and radio remained on even with the key out of the ignition. I have also learned the abs system could be affected. Also; due to the electrical system shorting out there is the potential for fire. It has been determined that the windshield leaked water onto the fuse box/gem. Ford issues a special service message #15773, in April of 2002. I bought this Expedition from b&b Ford at barnwell, SC 29812, 803-259-5524 on 2/21/2004. No one mentioned the ssm to me. Now my vehicle is sitting in the middle of the dealership with the under wheel dash removed. They are telling me the it will be over $600. 00 for the repair. This includes resealing the windshield, replacing the fuse box and gem. I feel that I have been driving in a vehicle that is poised to cause my family harm or death. Purchasing from a dealer one would have to agree that these issues should be resolved before the vehicle was sold to me. Once again, I was never made aware of any issues now a possible $600. 00 plus bill. They ordered the parts today. This is definitely a Ford problem not an ed problem. How many others are riding around in these time bombs? thanks for your time. Ed corley.

7 Battery Dead problem of the 2001 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 11/21/2008

Have owned my 2001 Ford Expedition for almost three years. Have replaced the battery and when in rains, I have to keep towels in the vehicle because of leaking windows. It does not always leak in the same spot. Many times I have attempted to start my vehicle and the battery is dead. Now when I shut my vehicle off, the blower fans turns on and runs until the battery is dead. I also will be driving, and all my dash lights will blink on and off. I am concerned about the gem module and the possibility that this electrical activity could cause a fire, even when not running. I am hearing estimates for repair of up to $1,500. 00. In my research on this, it is not an isolated event, nor an inexpensive one to fix.

8 Battery Dead problem of the 2001 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 03/12/2008

Car would not start on lot when I went to look at it to purchase. Dealer replaced battery. Afew months later after car sat for a period of time(1-2 weeks) vehicle would not start. Dealer replaced battery safer relay. Few weeks after that same thing again. Dealer says battery may be bad. Replaced!! my latest event vehicle sat for about 2 days. Temp went down to -29 I waited until temp went up to about -5 and went to start and battery was completely dead. Took vehicle to an auto electric shop where draw test showed an 80 milliamp drain where normal should be about (Ford says) 50 milliamps. A wire was cut to the subwoofer and drain went down to 17 milliamps. This is a factory installed item. I have read hundreds of complaints on the particular vehicle(2001 Ford Expedition) mine happens to be an eddie bauer model. A lot of the problems seem to be leaking windshields ruining the gem modules and fuse blocks. I don't know yet if my problem is solved or not only time will tell. I'm sure a lot of this type of thing has come across your desk. Ford should take some of this burden off it customers. They know this problem widely exist and they do nothing. Future gm customer.

9 Battery Dead problem of the 1998 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 11/27/2007

My 1998 Ford Expedition XLT has the leaking windshield problem, which has led to misdiagnosis by the dealer and by independent mechanics. The lights, fans, and switches randomly turn on and off, the power windows work intermittently, the blower fan and radio stays on, and the battery has gone dead three times. Today is the most recent occurrence of the problem, and I found it as noted in an online forum. Ford is/has been aware of the problem, yet will only fix it if the car has less than 75,000 miles on the odometer, which works intermittently as well. Apparently the repair will run in excess of $1,000, even though Ford has multiple reported cases of the same problem.

10 Battery Dead problem of the 1999 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 05/24/2007

After going through a car wash electrical system on my 99' Ford Expedition started to malfunction. All gauges going back and forth violently many warning lights illuminating loud clicking and popping noises like shorting out noises in fuse box area. Battery died shortly after while in traffic heading home leaving me stranded could have caused an accident. Replaced old battery with new one and still experiencing electrical failures. Vehicle is still sitting to this day!.

11 Battery Dead problem of the 1997 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 12/21/2006

I have a 1997 Ford Expedition which has had the following symptoms: the fan blower stays on while truck is off, the battery dies for no apparent reason after truck has sat unused for short periods, various lights on instrument panel come on and off while driving(including abs, airbag, all 4wd related lights, low wash, check engine), overdrive light blinks, speedometer doesn't work, truck doesn't accelerate and shift properly, radio comes on when truck is off. Clicks and beeps can be heard sometimes when in use and off. The dealer said the gem and fuse box were damaged by water leaking from windshield. They replaced parts(for $600 and told me that I had to go and get the windshield fixed. I asked how they knew the water was certainly coming from windshield, and they said because of location etc. And I asked them what will happen if it rains after I pick it up and before it gets looked at. They said I'd be fine if it's within a few days ("just don't wait a month"). Well I picked it upon the evening, and made an appointment for the next day for windshield. It rained overnight, though I even covered the area as best I could. I woke up to the radio blaring from my truck. I turned the truck on, shut it back off, radio still played so I shut its power off. As I drove to work, some of the other things started to happen again as well. I am not happy that (a) I have had to pay for Ford's inadequate workmanship and (b) I now have to fight with them about what is going to happen now since the rain has already screwed it up again because they left it in my hands before the leak was fixed. That truck never should have left their garage until it was taken care of. I don't know why they couldn't do it themselves, but they could have at least had the glass company come and do it there. This clearly is a common problem with Expeditions, and I think Ford should be forced to do something about it. Electrical malfunctions are not something to let.

12 Battery Dead problem of the 2001 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 03/21/2006

I own a 2001 Ford Expedition. For about the last 3 months, when it rains, the electrical system has numerous problems. It started about 3 months ago when the heater fan would continue to blow on high after the key was removed from the ignition. It would continue to run until the battery died. It gradually got worse over the last 3 months with a new symptom being added to the list. Currently the radio and windshield wipers will not work when the car is in drive after it has been raining heavily for awhile. Also the fan problem continues when the car is turned off. All this happens when it has been raining heavily for a while. I have seen reports from other owners that this is happening to them so I'm reporting it to you. Since the windshield wiper doesn't work when it is raining, this could be a bad problem.

13 Battery Dead problem of the 2001 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 01/02/2006

For the past 3 years since I owned my vehicle it malfunctions when it rains. The electrical components go haywire and they continues to run when I turn the car off and take the keys out. Eventually the battery dies and it does not go away until the rain stops for at least 3 days. I cannot drive the car when it is like this.

14 Battery Dead problem of the 2000 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 10/22/2005

Details: the electrical system came on when there was no key in the ignition. The radio and air conditioner were also on. The lights came on and the Expedition was trying to start itself. It continued all night and the next day, the police were called and looked at it, and they said no tampering was done. The battery finally died and I had to buy a new battery. My Expedition is currently at mullinex Ford in apopka, FL. They are still trying to figure out what happened. I found many complaints about the same occurrence, problems with electrical due to a leaky windshield. I feel that this is a defect and Ford should help me with the cost of this repair. I don't mind paying for repairs if they are within normal limits, but due to all the other complaints and service bulletins I do not believe that this is a normal car repair. Recall date: may 13, 1998 component: wheels:lugs/nuts/bolts potential units affected: 1520000 summary: vehicle description: multi-purpose vehicles and light duty pickup trucks. The lug nuts on these vehicles may not create sufficient clamp load allowing wheel movement in relation to the hub/rotor mounting surface. Consequence: this can result in the loosening of lug nuts, stud fatigue failure, and the potential for a wheel separation from the vehicle, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash. Remedy: owners of these vehicles will be receiving two notifications. The first notification, which began in may 1998, will provide an interim repair procedure until parts become available. This interim procedure can be completed by owners or their dealers. It specifies that the lug nut torque must be verified to be 100 lbs. Then the lug nuts need to be tightened an additional 1/8 to 1/4 turn more. There will be a second owner notification, which is expected to begin July 20, 1998, under which dealers will inspect the wheel studs and replace the wheel lug nuts. Notes: Ford motor company.
