The contact owns a 2006 Ford Expedition. While driving 20 mph, the vehicle stalled. The engine warning light illuminated on the instrument panel and read, "engine fail safe mode. " after several attempts, the contact was able to restart the vehicle. The dealer replaced the throttle body assembly. After the repair, the contact began smelling a burning oil odor in the vehicle. The smell became stronger and then turned into a gaseous odor, which was also entering through the interior vents. The contact inspected the vehicle, but could not locate any gas leak. The odor became so overpowering that one of the occupants had a nose bleed and several other occupants suffered headaches and stomach aches. The dealer stated that the oil level was too high and caused the fuel odor. The odor is still present. The current and failure mileages were less than 66,000.

Engine failure. In my research of the type of engine in my vehicle, a 4. 6l made in the romeo plant, have found that there has been numerous people that had their motors fail(blown). I have a Ford Expedition 1998 with a 4. 6l engine and the 8th digit of the VIN # being a w for romeo plant. When I called in excess of 20+ auto salvage yards, I had gotten the same response. That particular engine from that particular plant was a problem. I was also told 1997 was the same occurrence. Unfortunately, I owe almost $7000. 00 on this vehicle that I now can not drive with out replacing or rebuilding the engine, which will be more than a couple thousand. I have been told by these many salvage yards and my local Ford dealer the problem occurs when antifreeze makes its way into the oil and burns out the main bearings.

We bought a 1999 Ford Expedition eddie bauer almost a year ago. The day we bought it we noticed a burnt oil smell. The dealer replaced the head gasket. Now almost a year later, we blew a spark plug and need a new head. Dealer says that the head gasket and head are not related???? I was told that this car has these problems because of aluminum heads. . I want the dealer to replace it, I am willing to pay more for a new one, but I am not willing to repair it and take a loss! help!!.
This vehicle has been back to dealership seven times since purchase for warranty service problems and recalls. In may of 99 there was a recall on the wheel lugs: nuts. In September 99, November 99, and March 2000 it was in for windshield wiper problems; moulding replacement; twice for front end alignments (steers to right); and trailer hitch recall. The constant smelll of burning oil has just been diagnosed on latest visit to dealership 5/15/00 as needing a new cylinder head. Vehicle has been in on three other occasions for this same problem, but they could never find it. Now parts are on order---will take 3-4 days to obtain parts before they can repair it. Regarding the "windnoise" dealer says its "normal" yet service bulletins have been issued on this problem (996780 & TSB 99-6-5). In November of 1999, the left "tie rod" broke off while we were in phoenix. A phoenix dealership did a same day repair for us.
Vehicle is leaking oil. Also, every two weeks conusmer has to add a quart of oil. Also, fumes of oil burning go inside of vehicle. Contacted dealer, and dealer is not willing to do anything.
The vehicle oil consumption is getting progressively worse, at first a quart in 6,000, then 3,000 miles and now 1,800 miles. Nlm.
