1999 Ford Expedition with the 5. 4l triton engine blew out a factory installed original spark plug causing a engine fire. This seems to be common among this particular engine. Ford will not acknowledge a defect in the design, but online research concludes this problem is widespread and very dangerous. Ford should be compelled to recall these engines and repair or replace the engine at no cost to the customer.

I have experienced the blown spark plug problem with Fords triton 5. 4 liter engine for a second time. My 2003 Ford Expedition blew the # 3 spark plug on November 15, 2008. I am the original owner of this vehicle. The original engine was replaced August 22, 2006 with 86k miles because of the same problem at a cost to me of $5,400. This engine has 53k miles and was installed by koons Ford of annapolis. Although Ford accepts no responsibility for this failure, the dealer assured me that Fords redesigned v8 engine had resolved this issue. It is time for the Ford motor company to take ownership of this problem and at least take care of their customers that have experienced this defect.

Cleaned out threads with tap of same size, which are impossible to see in tight area of engine compartment and installed new spark plug but it blew out again two days later.

My 2003 Ford Expedition blew a spark plug completely out of the cylinder head without warning. This happened while driving at almost 65 mph, and the engine stalled, causing a very dangerous condition. The vehicle had less than 59k miles at the time of the incident. It cost me over $4k to repair, and I now find out that this has happened to thousands of owners with Ford triton motors from 1999 to 2004.
I purchased a 2006 Ford Expedition in April of '06, beginning in November of '06 my engine began stalling. The consequences included loss of braking power, freezing of steering, vehicle slowing with no control. I brought this to my dealers attention on numerous occasions as the problem has continued throughout 2007. I am very concerned of the potential for accidents and injuries.
: the contact stated while driving 35 mph a spark plug blew out of the cylinder head due to the thread holding the spark plug into place and the engine stalled. The vehicle was taken to the dealership for inspection. Upon inspection, the dealership put a heli coil in the cylinder head and replaced the spark plug, which remedied the problem. Updated 3/9/2006 - the first failure occurred at 48000 miles on the #2 cylinder. The plug was blown out of the cylinder head. The latest failure was on the #7 plug.
On sept. 16th, 2005, as I was driving in my Ford 2002 Expedition, my engine blew a spark-plug out of the engine which caused me to swerve out of my lane and loose all power on the highway. It was a very dangerous experience for me and my family and other drivers around me. I have since learned that Ford is aware of this obvious manufacturing defect and has done nothing to prevent this from happening and does not stand behind its product. The attached letter was sent to Ford motor company. I purchased a 2002 Ford Expedition brand new from syosset Ford on long island. After four years and 62 thousand miles, I was told by tower Ford of great neck that I blew a spark-plug out of the engine head. They requested that I change the entire engine since there maybe cylinder damage, and also I would now have a new warranty for my engine. Before spending $5,253. 34, I looked into the problem with other customers on the national highway traffic and safety administration and found out that other purchasers of this engine have had the same problem and Ford has done nothing to compensate them or fixed the engines problems. They know this is a problem in this particular engine and continue to use it, even though, Ford states that no tune-up is need on this engine for 100,000 miles. It is obvious that this is a manufacturerã‚??s defect in the engine and nothing is being done about it. At this point, I had no choice but to have a new engine installed or junk a $39,000 SUV. Tower Ford replaced the engine in September. Now here I am again, three months and 4,900 miles later I had to change the front blower motor for $335. 09. In March two months and 2,100 miles later, tower Ford tells me that spark-plugs one and two, and coils one and two, need to be replaced and this is not under warranty for my new engine and it will cost me $488 plus tax. Whatã‚??s next?.

Engine tends to stall, and unable to start when it rains. Occasionally, engine turns on and off on its own. Consumer will contact manufacturer.
The contact says that his engine is stalling at anywhere from 45-70mph. The engine stalls while he is trying to accelerate. There is no prior warning to the failure. The engine just completly shuts off. It takes it a couple of minutes after the failure for his engine to start up again. The engine is an automatic transmission and it has done this to him at least ten times. Has came very close to having accidents because of this problem because he has know warning to get out of the road.
The transmission has failed twice in my Ford explorer, first at about 2500 and now, after a rebuilt engine was installed, at 205,000. As well, I have had differential problems, moon roof issues, paint issues, cracked head, etc.
Spark plug blows out of aluminum head. This car has one of the most extensive service records paso robles Ford has on record; these are their words. In other words this vehicle has been maintained very very well and to have the plug blow out in the first place is uncalled for. Secondly we paid to have a remanufactered engine installed and a few weeks later the plug blows out again. This is supposed to be on what Ford calls a revised part to take care of plugs blowing out of the aluminum head. Ford will not give us a straight answer on what the revision is; this could be anything-possibly not even related to the problem. My understanding is the problem is that there are only three threads going into the aluminum head. Apparently the revision does not take this problem into account because it only took a few weeks for the exact same thing to happen.

While driving on highway at approximately 70 mph the vehicle's gauges began flashing erratically and the engine stalled immediately. Dealer diagnosed that engine had failed and consumer had to replace.
When the vehicle sat on an incline, the engine stalled. If the vehicle had less than half tank of fuel, it would stall. This problem occurred over five times, but the dealer was not consulted.

When the vehicle has a 1/4 tank of gas or less "and" sitting on an incline fuel guage will not register fuel being in vehicle, and engine will stall. This occurs while parked or while vehicle is in operation. Please provide any additional information/attachments. *note: consumer stated that if a vehicle was traveling on a slope and this happened, vehicle could lose steering and braking control.
