My 1997 Ford Expedition (eddie bauer) with 5. 4l engine with under 60000 miles and with all regular service at dealership "blew" a spark plug out of passenger side cylinder head. Plugs are original factory installed. Please see "consumer affairs. Com website. While not a safety issue plugs on Fords 96-2000 are blowing out all over country. The fix is $2-3k. Please consider recal investigation.

The truck will not start, even though there is power. After waiting a few hours it starts up without a problem. It may run fine for a couple days and then have numerous problems for days on end. This has been going on for more than a month now. Called three dealerships and was forced to take it back to the original dealership (two hours away). The problem did not happen when at the dealership, was not logged on the computer and was charged $100. 00 to do nothing. I have heard from numerous people that this is a common problem with the alarm system (that does not log problems on the computer) that is under warranty. Have called Ford customer service and was told that there was nothing that they could do. After numerous times of lack of starting, the original dealership told me that we needed to leave the truck with them for an extended period of time (three to four days).

Spark plug was 'blown' out of cylinder head on 1998 Ford Expedition. Ford enthusiast website showed this occurring to several people. The expense is $4100 and it seems to me that this is a defect in manufacturer. There was no warning, nor any recent service performed other than oil change.

On 6/2/03, Expedition at 50,907 miles had coil on plug system on #7 and #8 fail. Replaced. On 8/7/03 at 56,363 miles had coil on plug system on #3 fail. Replaced. On 5/4/04 at 74,500 miles had cop system on #4 and #2 fail at high speeds. Replaced. After replacing five of eight cop systems at a total cost of $1,862. 07, I'm not very happy with the system. I was planning on writing up a good evaluation of the 2003 Ford Expeditions that we had in baghdad, but after this experience, I won't.

1998 Ford Expedition after reviewing all the complaints listed I realized I had experience similar ones for instance spark plug blew out in Dec/02. In Aug. /03 the tie rod broke. We have had trouble with 4x4 working or in this case not. When switched in while lifted on a hoist it registers, but when on the ground it doesn't work. Something to do with the weight. Also the door locks no longer work, something to do with a sensor. Interior light stays on in hot weather. And the list goes on.
Vehicle stalled while driving on highway. Vehicle checked by dealer, who advised consumer that coil pack and plug on one cylinder had a short circuit and failed, causing vehicle to stall. Dealer also advised consumer that this was a common occurrence.

Interior lights malfunctioning, daytime running lights not working correctly, heating/cooling system not working properly; stays on even when key is not in ignition. When ignition is turned on or off, the woofer makes a loud thumping sound. Woofer inoperable. Right sign wing never worked properly/ will not open or close. Braking system is doubtful, it squeaks, and when gas is released engine and braking are not coordinated smoothly . Constant squeaking when in motion. Dealerships service repair personal neglect and refuse to find the causes, even though vehicle is still under warranty.
Spark plugs vibrated and blew out on the top of the motor, vehcile stall out. Dealer contacted, sad it should not happened.
The engine starts normally after the key is turned but dies when I shift into gear. After the first failure, the truck was towed to the dealer who performed diagnostics. The tests did not show any abnormalities. I was told that they could not identify the faulty part therefore could not replace anything. They said it could just be a fluke and might never happen again. This was while the truck was under manufacturer's warranty. The second failure occured two days ago, approx. 6 months after the first incident. I was eventually able to get the vehicle started on my own and drove straight to the dealer. Again, they were unable to find any faulty parts. The vehicle is now out of manufacturer warrenty but is under an extended warranty. However, the repair shop said that they could not just start replacing parts without a clear cut diagnostic becasue the insurer would not pay. I am now afraid to drive the vehicle any distance from my home or office in case the defect stalls the car again or manifests itself in some other, more destructive way. I cancelled my trip for the fourth of July and am waiting on a dealer call back. I am assuming this is a glitch in a computer chip or something relatively minor, but difficult to find. However, the problem is a major one in my life as I do not feel safe driving this vehicle. The dealer has been responsive and is researching the problem. I do not know if they have access to a data base of other Expedition/f110 owners who may have had this same problem, so I am trying to distribute my information to a central organization that might be able to recognize a pattern of failure and identify it's cause. The vehicle has been maintained per the manufacturer's recommendations.
One of the spark plugs blew out completely as engine was running, repair shop said it was very unusual and could be some type of defect because they have never seen this type of failure before with so few miles. The threads were completely stripped out where spark plug screws into head.
At 25mph spark plug blewout with no warning. Then, vehicle shutdown. Cause unknown. Dealer notified and replaced spark plugs. Transmission failed at 17,000 miles.
While at idle the #3 sparkplug blew out of the cylinder stripping the threads. The repair facility estimates $2000 to repair. This is exactly like odi #743868. There is a defect in the heads. This engine was replaced twice at about 30,000 miles because of leaks in the headgasket. The current engine only has 34000 miles. When the spakplug blew out it spewed gas over the engine creating a potential fire hazard.
11/01 vehicle stalls no power valley Ford changes key and re-codes ,3/20 vehicle stalls can't restart/ trouble shots by vallety Ford they replace a new battery for a new battery. 3/25/02 back in service officers stalls while driving , he beleives it to be the fault of an electronic gas key on ring, removes key to glove box, restarts vehicle 1 hour later vehicle stalls ,removes key re-starts vehicle operating/ emsg sent to winner Ford and valley Ford regarding continual problem growing worse with no solution.
Had spark plug coil go out on #4 cylinder, shakes at higher speeds tires wear unevenly burning oil smell after you drive it had it to dealership 3 times and they "couldnt locate a leak " ( maybe there techs should read these TSB's?) finally reconized as bad head and gasket replaced still was leaking then I told I needed a total engine replacement! now its outta warrenty and my problem according to Ford dealership. Even though had it in for burning oil smell when under 36,000 (dot number: na tiresize: 275r16).
I called Ford consumer relations and they played dumb like they have never heard of this problem. I was steamed. At least admit you have a problem I told them. After first talking to some lackie, I got a "supervisor" who was very arrogant. He tried to blame it on a lack of "Ford certified" maintenance. If they would have just admitted the problem and charged me cost for the replacement instead of making even more money on their own design flaw, I would have been happy. They even charged me $30 to diagnose the problem! I mentioned the TSB, but again, he played dumb and said he would have to look into it.
While traveling at high speed the #3 spark plug on the left hand side of vehicle detonated, stripping the spark plug threads and incapacitating the vehicle. The Ford dealer wants to charge us $2000 to fix what is essentially a known defect. Ford redesigned the spark plug housing with a reduced number of threads resulting in this catastrophic failure. This defect has been documentented on a number of message boards.
Coil pack defective. This is a common problem of these vehicles.
While driving vehicle engine check light comes on and remains on. This causes vehicle to act as if it's going to stall out when its idling too long at stop lights or stop signs. Has happened so far 5 times. Had taken to dealership 4 times, each time mechanic replaced a coil pack. Light would go out, but after 2 weeks would return again.
Failure of the #3/#4 coil packs seem commonplace on Ford Expeditions primarily due to the design of the heater hose (sits above the coil pack): if the hose drips, the result is a costly repair. . Read more...
I uderstand this faliure is quite common but at only 19000 miles if this were to happen on the highway, and it is likely to it would result in loss of steering and brakes.
I know of at least 10 Expedition owners who experienced the same problem with the coil bank on #4. The service technician at jones Ford indicated it was a vehicle defect.
Engine suddenly running very rough and engine check light on. Dealer investigation showed coolant leak on coil pack 4. Coil pack removed and replaced and hose clamp tightened. Repair was not done as a defect although many other vehicles have had the same problem.
I have had several electrical malfunctions in the past 9 months. First starting may 2000, clicking noises under dash, dash lights blinking on and off seems low washer fluid light is effected most. Beeping noises from behind glove box. A/c comes on without key in ignition. Took it to Ford imediatly they couldn't find a problem. Next incident, was during a weekend and it seemed to correct itself. Second time to the shop, same problem as first. They could not find what was causing the problem. This problem has happened several times either at night or on weekend as this is the only time the car is driven. By Monday am problem is gone. In June another incident this time windows and door locks affected. Windows rolled up and down by selves, then would not perform at all. Door locks came up on their own. Dealership could not find problem. Oct. 5, 2000 driving and clicking noises start under dash, window rolls down by self, beeping noises start under dash, cigerette lighters malfunction(cell phone stops working), speedometer, odomerter, tackometer, quit working while I'm driving. Windsheild wipers malfunction. Car begins shifting hard. This is scary when you are driving in the rain, on dark windy roads with 3 children in the car. I just kept thinking , what if the engine dies and the steering locks up. I feel this to be a huge problem and could be life threatening. Again I took the car to Ford who once again could not find a problem. Found the trottel to need adjusting. Drove car home and the next morning the same thing happened (Saturday Ford service is closed) I turned off the vehicle and when I started it again the problem corrected itself. Please help, I'm worried about the safety of my family. ).
Tire defect: driving under normal conditions with my family of five we heard a "bang" and realized the rear right tire had blown. Because of the severity of the blow out we felt immediately that this was a manufacturing defect and expressed our concern to nemer Ford. The Ford Expedition has never been used for any off-road purpose. Nemer Ford refused to do anything and simply referred us to the firestone dealer. We contacted our local firestone dealer and they told us it must have been punctured, which we knew was not true. We have not replaced the tire and still have the original tire to prove to someone that the tire is defective! firestone told us we needed to purchase another tire, I will not risk my family's safety by purchasing another firestone product. ( dot number: tire size: p265/70r ).
The spark plug blew out of the engine due to stripped threads, damage to the engine as a result of failure.
Spark plug exploded. Mjs.
Repeated problem that has escalated to a suggested engine replacement. The #4 coil has been repaired 10 times. The vehicle warranty and extended warranty have been exhausted. Ford has repeatly failed to find the real problem. The customer service department representatives and supervisor have said that there's nothing Ford can do about my problem. "it's the Ford policy. ".
Vehicle was parked in driveway with key removed from ignition. Windshield wipers, radio, and dvd accessory began operating without warning.
When vehicle was shut off it continued to idle. Dealer has been notified.
