We owned a 2000 Ford Expedition, which we never experienced any problems with. The end of September (I can't remember the date right off hand) we arrived home from the playground and 10 minutes later our truck spontaneously caught fire. Majority of the damage was done to the driver's side. The fire department said it looked to be electrical. A neighbor who lives down the street informed us that there had been several Expeditions that recently caught fire. We then went to automotiveforums. Com and was surprised to find many other individuals that this also happened too. I sent an email to the board of directors of the Ford motor company just to let them know that there were many more people that had this happen to, and to this day never received a response. Our insurance company informed us that most claims like this usually never get reported to Ford. We had an investigative reporter from houston call us to get more information. Maybe you could warn others so that they don't have to experience the same thing that we have. I can also obtain an report from the fire department if that would be of assistance.

My 2000 Ford Expedition was parked in my mom's driveway while we went to the beach. We returned 4 hours later and the horn was blaring and smoke was pouring out from under the hood. The fire department disconnected the battery and I had it towed to the Ford dealer, who sold us the car. I refused to get back in the car with my kids, after I spent $700 to repair the burned out wiring, and ended up trading it in for a brand new Expedition. The recall notice came out in Jan -05, after my incident. My friend's f150 went on fire in the middle of the night with the horn blaring - which caused me to investigate the recall. Some other fires have involved horns blaring. I want my $700 back.
In process of moving parked vehicle at old house for 1 or 2 hours in driveway, and while talking with neighbor saw smoke coming from vehicle. Another neighbor put out the fire with a hose. Towed to dealership, and they said the fire started near master cylinder. Will fax invoice for repair work. Cruise control stopped working for 6 months or a year. No other problems with the vehicle other than the rear windshield wiper malfunctioned. No after market equipment on vehicle.
While being parked vehicle caught on fire. The cause of the fire was still undetermined.
While parked the vehicle caught on fire without warning. The fire department stated it was an electrical wiring malfunction.

On January 11, 2004 consumer's vehicle exploded while being parked in the garage. This explosion damaged about 80% of house property. When this was investigated it was determined that this was due to a default in electrical system wiring. Consumer had vehicle serviced twice prior to this incident.

I have replaced the p04 coil three times in the last year.
My Expedition is a 1yr and 5 months. With less than 500 miles paid for a front end alignment and tire rotation, because of bad vibration at speeds of 60-70 miles an hour. Still had vibration, took it back to dealer, they said the truck came with tires out of balance. Still had vibration, took it back to dealership, a box dealing with the steering wheel had to be replaced. Since then I have paid for another front end alignment and tire balance, now tires have worn so bad dealership will probably blame worn tires for the vibration. There is more!!! the seal on the front windshield came loose and started leaking, and had to be replaced. In the front defrost vent some foam stuff had come loose and would flap around when the vent was on, the dealership called it ( packing) it was replaced or glued back down. The side trim on both sides from the two front doors, to the two rear doors faded badly, and had to be replaced. The dome light had a pinched wire and would flicker when turned on or hit a bump, it was repaired. The power window swith light, driver side went out, and the unit had to be replaced, and now the cruise control will not stay engaged when I hit a bump most of this happened in under a year.
Electrical motor under driver seat was hot and started a fire. I was able to get out car out of the garage at home before it caught fire. Started as smoke from under seat and investigated to find the motor very hot.
My Ford Expedition was purchased in August of 2001. By November of '01 the battery had died. To shorten the story, I hit the highlights. Basically it was determined by myself and Ford that if the vehicle was untouched for more than 2 weeks, the active power drain on the vehicle was substantial enough to drain the battery. After 9 instances of taking the vehicle to Ford over a 3 year period, towing the vehicle in, and working with them on what was wrong, I was told that top Ford engineers said it was acceptable that if a Ford vehicle had a substantial power drain that it was okay if the vehicle could hold a charge for 2 weeks. Basically admitting fault and telling me it was my responsibility to work around this issue by installing a battery charger. Since the Expedition is my 2nd vehicle I only drive it once a month or so. If I do not keep the battery charged via external charger the battery will die. One note here is that the amperage draw to ground on the vehicle at all times is enough to cause substantial sparking if the battery cables are loose or removed. This also was deemed okay by Ford. This causes me enough concern that I will not park this vehicle in the garage of my home due to fear of fire. But the vehicle cost enough that I can't simply replace it. I've notified many Ford dealerships and contacts including calling, emails, and written letters on this subject and they simply accept the fact that they manufacture unsafe vehicles. Hopefully this form will cause statistical notification of their shortfalls.
The rear wiper motor failed due to loose wire. Yh.

Vehicle is driven on dirt road 30%. Cable frays and breaks near grommet, originally at 55,000 miles and again at 75,000. Tire size was 245-75-r16.
My wife had just began to press the brakes to slow down to go around a curve when she realized the brakes were not working, and the steering wheel would not turn as usual as all power was gone. She ran into the wrong lane of traffic on a split off road and was able with great pressure to get the truck stopped. She was very lucky no traffic was on the off road. After turning the truck switch to the off position and putting the truck in park, it started right back up. On 6/22/98 martin Ford tested it, but only replaced the wiring assembly and did find anything wrong. It has happened twice since then, but not as scary since it has been when we were slowing at traffic lights and going straight so as not needing to turn. But really noticing the extra strength it takes to stop the truck without power brakes. We love the truck, but are glad it is a leased, and we will be returning it in September, we are just scared that if those other Expeditions have the same problem, there could be major accidents over it.
While driving lugs nuts broke, causing the front right wheel to detach from the vehicle. Consumer was traveling at 70 mph when lugs and nuts broke in the front wheel. Taken to dealership and put the same tire and rim. When consumer left dealership, lights failed to work and experienced shaking in front end. Took vehicle to a different dealership, and found out that the front end was so bad. Dealership replaced shims to align front end. The failure of lights was caused by the repair from the previous dealership because when they took the dash board apart, they poked a hole in the heater which burned the wire.
Vehicle caught on fire in the air conditioning compartment due to faulty wiring. The dealer has inspected the vehicle . The manufacture has been notified.
An electrical short circuit occurred in the engine f-3 compartment near the firewall, resulting in the vehicle burning. Please give any frther details.
