The contact stated that he lost power steering on his vehicle and his vehicle is not part of the recall . The contact stated his whole electrical system lost power.
My 2013 Ford Explorer experience and was diagnosed by a Ford dealer as having the identical problem as like vehicles covered by NHTSA campaign NHTSA 14v286000. The vehicle loses power steering and a steering assist failure warning occurs while moving. My vehicle is not within the same mfg date range as the vehicles cover in the recall, however is the same make and model, and the same part is defective.
Car just started shaking and lost power steering while driving on the highway.
My power steering assist went out multiple days as I went to start my vehicle. I turned it off and it turned back on. On the fourth day when I was driving home it turned off on me and I lost power steering. I had to pull over and turned off my vehicle and turned it back on but the power steering remained off and my other sensors turned off as well-stability control etc. . I went to the dealership and they said I needed a new power steering assembly and new battery. It cost me $2770 to fix. The recall did not apply to my VIN for my 2013 Ford Explorer even though it was for the same issue as the recall.
07/28/2020 2013 Ford Explorer limited awd with a little over 58,000 miles had a power steering light come on while my wife was backing out of our garage and the steering became extremely difficult. It had lost power steering assist and made the vehicle almost impossible to steer. She stopped and turned the car off and restarted and the power steering started working again. Per the NHTSA website, 2011-2013 Ford Explorers have a recall for this exact problem. However, upon entering my VIN number, it appears to be "outside" the recall. I chatted with a Ford representative on 7/29/2020 (jessica) and she also confirmed that my vehicle, although within the years designated by the recall, my VIN was not included in the recall for this problem. Suggested I go to my nearest Ford dealer and "work" with them on the repair and see if they can help getting my vehicle added to the recall. I have researched numerous complaint for my Explorer and found that numerous owners are getting the same response as I did. Their vehicle is not included in the recall even though they have the model years identified. I feel that Ford has acknowledged their is a problem and need to include additional vehicles of the same make and model for the recall. It is obvious that more vehicles are affected than the original recall included. I fear that had my wife been traveling in town where we live and this occurred, she would have not been able to steer the vehicle and could have lost control and even been involved in an accident that could have injured herself or someone else.
While driving 65 mph on the interstate, a chime alarm came on and a message came up saying "power assist failure ". Then I lost power steering immediately. Then another alatm. Flashed and said "service power steering now". Driving to the next exit 7 miles away was very scary and difficult. There was no warning sign at all that there was an issue with my 2013 Ford Explorer XLT. And when there was a warning, it was too late. I had to have it towed 2. 5 hrs home. The mechanic shop gave me an estimate for repair of $2700. 00 to replace the power steering rack. As I do not have the money for it now, I brought it back home and it is sitting in my driveway. The power steering worked again when I was driving it the 1. 5 miles back home but went out again once I pulled on to my street. It was extremely difficult parking it without power steering. I saw this was a recall for some 2013 Explorers, yet my VIN was not included on the recall list.
On 6-27/20, my Explorer suddenly lost power steering and the dash said "power steering assist failure". Took it to the dealer for diagnostic. Researched online the issue and noticed that 2011-2013 Ford Explorers were recalled for power assist steering issues (recall#14v286000/14s06) the dealer said my VIN is not included in the recall. Called Ford customer service (case# cas2694313) to see if I could get some assistance, she researched and said my only option was to have the repair done and in the event that Ford includes in my VIN at a later date, then I would get reimbursed. Suddenly losing power steering is a safety issues and my vehicle displays the same problems as the recall.
While driving on interstate, my wife heard a lot of chimes then " power steering assist fault" was displayed. Vehicle lost all power steering and it was very dangerous. Once she turned motor off and restarted, the power steering was back to normal. It has since happened multiple times. This is extremely dangerous!! there should be a recall for my VIN. . ! please help!!!.
Lost of power steering while driving, coming from an oil changed at the dealership. Was able to pull over into a parking lot, and was able to manage not to get into an accident. This could've been fatal, and Ford need to recall.
My wife was driving down a back road by our house with our 3 children in the back and myself as a passenger. The vehicle while traveling at roughly 40mph had a light flash that read service advance trac. She then lost all power steering and could not pull off the road. She could only brake. We shut the vehicle off and turned it back on. It regained steering for a few miles and then it happened again shortly after in a parking lot. It is now at the Ford garage to get looked at. It is super dangerous especially if she was traveling around a turn. It has 50000 miles on the vehicle.
Lost power steering. The power steering will intermittently work and you will get a power steering assist fault notice. There is a recall for this issue (15s11) but for some reason this Explorer was not included due to the manufacture date. I believe that recall needs to be extended to cover all of the vehicles affected. The vehicle is almost unsteerable when this happens and is not safe to drive.
Driving down the expressway going 75mph when we got a power steering fault error. We lost all power steering and traction control. Very scary with our 3 small children in the car in the middle of the expressway. Called Ford and was told that while there was a recall for this issue, our VIN was not included. Doesn't make any sense since it is the exact same issue that models under the recall are experiencing. Ford needs to address this ASAP. We pulled over, turned off and restarted the vehicle and the fault went away and we regained power steering. Thankfully there was not much traffic otherwise we could have been seriously injured in an accident.
Like recall number 14s06, my Explorers power steering assist is intermittent and will sometimes will not work at all. I've checked with a local dealer and they say that it is not a recall under our VIN. This vehicle lost power steering while my wife was driving with both of our young children in the car.
While driving on us highway 190 east, I lost full control of my steering without any warnings (lost of power steering). I was able to maintain proper control of the vehicle, since I was operating the vehicle at low speed (35mph) as I was slowing to make right turn off of highway onto a parish roadway when the steering had failed.
The vehicle lost power steering. Local repair shop indicated that the electrical power steering system failed and needs to be replaced.
While attempting to turn from parking spots the power steering assist fault warning came on. Lost all power steering. The dealership said its the epas, electric power assisted steering.
While driving at highway speed, the vehicle lost power steering control resulting in having to manually steer the vehicle. Warning lights for service power steering now, service advance trac, service stability control all came on at the same time. Vehicle was taken to a Ford dealer, diagnosed as epas steering rack as it is an integrated system. Was informed the vehicle was not covered under a recall which results in a $2000 repair, replacing the defective part with the same part that is subject to faure again.
My 2013 Ford Explorer lost the power steering as I was driving down the interstate. The steering started feeling inconsistent and then the warning light to service power steering came on along with traction control warning. I took it to the Ford dealership after talking to Ford customer service. This is what they recommended. The dealership said my vehicle is not part of the recall and that I would have to pay almost 1900. 00 to have the power steering fixed in my Explorer. This seems insane to me since there have been so many complaints of the same thing happening to so many Ford Explorers and escapes. I feel that my Explorer also was given a faulty part and should be replaced by Ford at no charge to me.
After starting I noticed the steering very hard to turn. Almost like it had lost power steering. When turning, at first it is hard to turn, then becomes easy and then goes back to being hard to turn. Call my local dealership and wa stood some 2013 model years are covered and some not. If not covered, the cost to replace the electronic module would $1,800. 00. Very very dangerous to drive. How can some model year 2013 be covered on a recall and others not>.
While driving down a city street my vehicle lurched and the terrain management system fault light and orange wrench light came on. It wouldn't accelerate and I lost my power steering. I was able to coast to side of the road. I shut it off and waiter for about a minute then restarted it. It idled rough for a few seconds then smoothed out and I was able to make it home.
Lost power steering while driving. Traction control fault and terrain control fault came on. The steering box now needs to be replaced. I have codes c1b00-62, u2001, u0415, and the same issue that meets the requirements of recall 14s06, but my VIN is not in the data base for this. The recall specifically calls out vehicles from the chicago plant. 11th letter in my VIN shows it came from the chicago plant. Ford and the dealership refuse to consider this a recall item, I strong disagree with them.
While driving our 2013 Explorer on I 95 we lost power steering, warning light came on and driving became extremely difficult. We were driving the speed limit of 70 mph and reduced speed. Made it home, parked and turned off vehicle. Restarted vehicle and had total loss of steering. Steering wheel locked completely. Vehicle was towed to dealership where purchased. Steering gear assembly had to be replaced due to power steering gear has internal fault. We have been told our vehicle VIN # is not currently on the recall list.
Check engine light came on and I lost all power steering on the car. Was able to pull over. Restarted the car and power steering came back.
Driving vehicle through intersection, turning, , lost power steering, and temporarily lost control of vehicle. Was able to muscle it to the side of the road. Display made a chime noise, and stated "power assist failure" ( or something to that effect). I pulled to the side of road, turned off vehicle, waited 2 min, started it again and it worked fine. Found there is a recall "14s06" for exact model and year with exact description of my failure. Took vehicle to closest Ford dealer, they said it is covered under recall and there would be no charge as this is a safety issue. After numerous calls back and forth with dealer and Ford, Ford claims this VIN is not covered. I have paperwork from the dealer that shows part number needed is for the steering gear # db5z-3504-ne, which is the part number in the recall. I am unable to find a VIN # list as it appears Ford does not have one and they decide when you call who gets the recall and who does not. There is no transparency in such as system. If Ford knows of this issue with this year and model and knows it's a safety issue that has resulted in accidents, per NHTSA, why am I being rejected for the exact safety issue on the exact model and year? can you please help?.
I was making a u-turn not even going more than 15 mph and my 2013 Ford Explorer sport's, which only has 6050 miles on it, power steering suddenly stop working and all across the dash, warning lights lit up, stability control fault, power steering assist fault, terrain management fault, traction control fault. I lost power steering and slowly steered into the nearest gas station. I turned off my engine and then restarted it, the power steering worked again and some of the warning lights went off, except the terrain management and stability control lights, I turned off the vehicle a second time and all the warnings lights went off, I went straight the dealership and it is there now. The service advisor had said he has seen this happen once and they replaced the power steering gears and system. I am very concerned that this will happen again and I will lose control of the vehicle and cause an accident and hurt myself and my family and other persons. Luckily I was in slow traffic and a gas station was nearby, and I did not have my family in the vehicle. Ford needs to address this issue with the Explorers and fix these safety issues ASAP!.
I experienced a loss of power steering while driving, as well as stability control, traction control, and terrain management systems errors. I was stopped at an intersection waiting to make a left turn. Once I started moving to make the turn (@ 5 mph), a number of beeps went off, warnings were displayed on the vehicle information screen, and I lost power steering. After pulling over to the side of the road with no power steering, I turned off the car and then restarted. At this point the power steering was working, but the traction control and terrain management errors were still happening. After a minute, the traction control light went off. There was still an error with the terrain management. After getting home safely 90 minutes later, I restarted it again, and all systems seemed to be working, with no errors reported.
