Driver's side door would not open. Both the key and keyless entry failed to open the driver side door. It was also impossible to open it manually from inside and outside since linkages were bent and latch mechanism was inoperative. Latch assembly and arms were replaced.

Cannot open driver's side door. Automatic door opener does not work, door handle does not open door, key does not open door. The only way to exit the car is to crawl over the front seat divider and exit through the front passenger seat door. The driver is literally trapped in the car. I have scheduled service at the dealer tomorrow, July 9, 2002. I will be interested in seeing how the service people get in or get out of the car through the driver's side when I drop the car off. This is a serious failure of either an electrical or mechanical component and could cause serious harm if a person was required to exit the car on the driver's side in an imergency.

Doors on driver and back passenger sides will not open from inside of vehicle which could pose a risk if quick exit is needed. Consumer states upon arriving home she tried to exit vehicle by pulling the door handle to open door when all of a sudden it failed to open, consumer states she had to crawl over the passenger side to get out of vehicle, consumer states she also has to go through passenger side to get into vehicle , also the back door on the same side is broken with the same problem.

The contact owns a 2001 Ford Explorer. While the vehicle was stationary, the rear passenger doors could not be opened from the inside, but only from outside the vehicle. Marysville Ford in marysville, washington was made aware of the failure and stated that there was no recall on the vehicle. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 30.

Defective striker plate which was used to hold the door in event of a crash, spun around, causing door not to close properly. In event of a crash door may fly open. Manufacturer said that striker plate was suppose to stay in place when the door was shut.

The door handle machanism has failed on each of the rear doors. A plastic piece broke off the mechanism. This resulted in not being able to open the door from the inside, inhibiting egress of any passengers during an emergency. Both failed mechanisms have been replace by the selling dealership at our expense. Representatives at the dealership indicated to us both times that this is a common problem with our type of vehicle. We believe that this is a safety issue that needs to be addressed. It is not always possible to get the vehicle in to the dealership in a timely manner to get this door opening replaced. We had our broken part replaced today. Ford part # f77z-7821818-aaj is the one that was most recently replaced.

Summer 1999- trip to florida, ran into rain storm around decatur, alabama. We had slowed to 35 - 45 mph maximum after feeling what felt like the vehicle trying to hydraplane. Then we heard a slapping sound like the rubber was loose. Stopped and check it and tires appeared okay. Continued carefully. To date, we still hear a sound similiar to a ball bouncing while driving it. Local dealership's service mgr. Said the tires were cupping. We have had the tires balanced and rotated every 10,000 miles max. And the alignment checked numerous times; all have been okay. I run approx. 32 lbs. In the tires. Door locks - left rear had to have 2 motor replacements before it operated properly. Now left front control lock is not unlocking properly without numberous attempts. ( dot number: w2hl1py49 tire size: p235/75r15 ).

Soon after purchase paint problem revealed multiple bubbles through out the exterior of the car. SUV was then taken to dealer/body shop were other problems were created to the cosmetics of the car. It took about a year to attempt to correct problems that were created. The SUV's doors were taken off which then created a wind noise to the drivers side that can't be corrected. The doors were replaced misaligned and when complaints were made with higher management their response was that I was to picky with their work. I am very disatsified with how they handle this veh. Defect.

This is a leased vehicle from Ford motor company, the door locks and tail gate lock have a short in the electrical system that causes the locks to go up and down and the motor to stay on inside the doors causing them to overheat and create potential fire hazards. The fuse had to be taken out of the vehicle to shut the lock mechanishms off, the Ford company refuses to fix this defect in this vehicle.

The door handle has broken three times. Ford is aware of the problem but will not fix,re-design the handle. Family and friends also have the same problem with there 1996 Explorer. I'm a safety expert for dol-osha and feel this is a safety problem and Ford needs to fix "ASAP" the plastic design of the handle. If you can not get out of the vehicle during a potential crash this could be a safety problem.
