36 Brake Fluid Leak problem

Failure Date: 08/13/2017

After towing my travel trailer 90 miles to a campground, I left my truck parked for about 2 days at the campground. When preparing to go home, I turned on the vehicle and was immediately notified by the instrument panel of low brake fluid. Brake pedal would press all the way to the floor with minimal resistance and no braking power. I checked the reservoir and found that there was minimal fluid. I looked for any leaks of brake fluid throughout the engine compartment and all the way back to each wheel. No leak was found. I added 1 bottle (12 oz) of brake fluid to get the level in the reservoir back into range. The vehicle then operated normally and I was able to tow my trailer 90 miles back home. Had the vehicle been in operation when this happened, the results would have been catastrophic - especially while towing.

37 Brake Fluid Leak problem

Failure Date: 08/11/2017

Complete loss of brakes due to loss of brake fluid leaking from master cylinder.

38 Brake Fluid Leak problem

Failure Date: 07/20/2017

The contact owns a 2015 Ford F-150. While driving approximately 60 mph, a "brake fluid low" message displayed on the instrument panel. The contact slowed down and proceeded to the next exit before losing all braking ability. The contact downshifted and applied the emergency brake in order to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to purvis Ford of fredericksburg, virginia where it was diagnosed that the master cylinder failed, which caused brake fluid to leak into the brake booster. Both the master cylinder and brake booster needed replacement. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The approximate failure mileage was 71,000.

39 Brake Fluid Leak problem

Failure Date: 07/17/2017

As I was driving on a city street, the light on the cluster came on telling me that the brake fluid was low in the master cylinder. I verified it by checking the fluid. I went to an auto parts store and wound up putting three 12oz cans of brake fluid and the brakes were still marginally working. I drove it to the local Ford dealer where 2 days later I was informed the master cyl. Had leaked fluid to the booster. The dealer wound up replacing the master cyl. , brake booster with sensor, spark plugs, brake switch, vacuum line ck valve, and vacuum pump.

40 Brake Fluid Leak problem

Failure Date: 06/08/2017

As I was driving to work on a secondary street with very light traffic (thankfully), a warning flashed on dashboard regarding low brake fluid. When I touched the brake pedal it vibrated and as I depressed it went all the way to the floor where I had minimal stopping power. With very light traffic I went to a nearby auto parts store and purchased / installed 1 quart of brake fluid. By the time I drove 3 miles to my office, the brake pedal was again on the floor with minimal stopping power. I installed a second quart of fluid with absolutely no sign of a leak anywhere. I had the vehicle towed to the dealer where they advised the master cylinder was leaking the fluid into the booster assembly. They replaced the master cylinder and booster.

41 Brake Fluid Leak problem

Failure Date: 02/22/2017

Brake fluid leaked from brake master cylinder into brake booster. Result was loss of brakes very rapidly. Vehicle was moving when my wife noticed the loss of brakes. Leak could have occurred either while truck was stationary or moving.

42 Brake Fluid Leak problem

Failure Date: 02/13/2017

While driving to work. Brake fluid low warning illuminated and complete loss of brakes. This came on very fast. Within 10 mins of leaving home. Further inspection, once at my office, found there was no brake fluid leaking from the lines, calipers, or exterior of master cylinder. Brake fluid must have leaked into the booster.

43 Brake Fluid Leak problem

Failure Date: 08/03/2016

I was driving the vehicle when its diagnostic system reported "low brake fluid". I pulled into the closest gas station and checked brake fluid level. It was almost totally out, so I purchased 2 small cans and filled up brake fluid reservoir. I had just had the vehicle into the dealer for its scheduled maintenance, so it was odd that brake fluid was low. No external leaks were visible. I drove another 5 miles, and the diagnostic system reported again, "low brake fluid". I pulled into another gas station and rechecked the brake fluid reservoir. Again, it was almost totally empty. I could not detect a visible brake fluid leak, but could smell brake fluid in the engine bay. I parked the vehicle, and called the dealership to see if they were still open. They were about to close. I restarted the vehicle and the brake pedal went all the way to the floor. I called a tow truck and had the vehicle towed to the dealership. While attempting to park the vehicle in the dealer's lot, I had no braking capabilities. Dealer diagnosed the problem as a defective master cylinder. Repair was done by dealer by replacing master cylinder and brake booster. There was an approximate 30 day delay in repairing the vehicle because there is an existing recall on 2014 Ford F-150's for defective brake boosters, and Ford was back ordered on the parts. I just picked up my vehicle from the dealership and it was successfully repaired.
