Without warning (no lamps or prior problems), the vehicle abruptly downshifted at high speed. Attempting to temporarily alleviate the problem, the vehicle was placed in manual mode. While traveling at 60+mph in manual on a busy freeway, the speedometer began fluctuating wildly and the vehicle downshifted again. Upon decelerating, the vehicle violently shifted into first gear with loss of control. Although an accident was avoided, the safety of passengers and other nearby vehicles were at risk. The vehicle was inspected at a Ford dealership and the issue was reproduced once but failed to properly show codes. After researching prior model years with similar concerns, replacement of the molded lead frame as would have been completed under a recall, alleviated the problem.

As thousands of drivers have reported and as NHTSA is clearly already aware yet puzzlingly remains silent about - my f150’s transmission creates whiplash when shifting, causes the vehicle to lurch, and loses power unpredictably. Ford refuses to admit the problem but the problem is the same as the rest of their poorly designed vehicles’ problems - they knew the transmissions had design flaws that made the vehicle unsafe to drive. I almost died on I-295 in jacksonville when the vehicle randomly lost power and took it to the dealer. Now, because Ford has lied and won’t issue a recall that they know is their fault (they are being sued in multiple states for this exact issue) I am going to have to pay almost $10,000 to repair their flaw, by replacing their unsafe transmission with a safe version.

At 50,000 miles , and earlier, the engine warning light came on, the truck lost all power, and the power steering failed. Upon taking the truck to the dealer, it was determined that the throttle body was defective, and needed replacing. Needless to say, I think that this should not have happened at such a low mileage and should be covered under a recall. Thanks for allowing me to vent. [xxx]

I have a 2011 f150 with the 3. 5 ecoboost. I have had numerous rough 3-4 upshifts since the truck was new. Brought the truck to dealer twice and was told they could not duplicate the rough shift. I have also had the engine stumble on me twice will trying to pass. I have read others are having similar problems and am hoping Ford will have a fix before someone gets killed in a wreck.

My family and I were driving interstate 81 in virginia on 8/13/2011. We were driving in the staunton, va area at approximately 70 mph where the rear wheels on my 2010 F-150 immediately locked up. I had the vehicle towed to a local Ford dealership, and with the help of Ford techs, they feel the issue was the transmission immediately dropped from 6th gear down to 1st gear. Fortunately the road was dry and I gained control and moved the vehicle safely off the road, however my concern is it doesn't sound like they are 100% sure that this was the cause, and even if it is, how do I know it won't happen again in the future. . . With a worse outcome. I feel this is a huge safety issue, and we were lucky we didn't get into a more serious accident. Now I have a vehicle that I don't know I feel safe in, and Ford seems to feel there isn't an issue, but I see numerous posts on the internet of similar situations. Should Ford be doing more to ensure their customers are safe in their vehicles, or should I just find another truck that is safer?.
