2 Power Train problem of the 2015 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 07/03/2026

Pulling into traffic the truck suddenly shifts from fifth gear to second causing the vehicle to suddenly slow which makes getting slammed in the rear by another vehicle highly likely. At high speeds on the highway it becomes dangerous to change lanes and expect the truck to maintain speed. This problem is occurring frequently now so an accident is likely to occur. I want a loaner until Ford fins and makes the fix available.

3 Power Train problem of the 2015 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 07/03/2026

The vehicle has a documented, active transmission failure code p0720 relating to recall 26s28 (NHTSA campaign 26v237). Per pages 3 and 4 of Ford's official part 573 safety recall report, dealers are explicitly required to bypass the software wait and replace the physical lead frame hardware if a vehicle exhibits this code prior to the software's release. The local franchise dealership (mccombs Ford west in san antonio, TX) and Ford corporate customer relations are both actively refusing to honor this hardware safety remedy directive, forcing the vehicle to be grounded on the dealer lot due to the severe risk of high-speed rear-wheel lockup, while denying mandated alternative transportation support. Furthermore, the dealership has failed to execute the safety remedy for open brake master cylinder recall 20s31 (NHTSA campaign 20v332000), which presents an immediate risk of a sudden loss of braking pressure.

4 Power Train problem of the 2021 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 07/02/2026

I recently purchased a 2021 F-150 with 48,000 miles on it. Just over 60,000 miles I was noticing some bad shifting occurring with my 10r80 transmission. It progressively got worse by harsh shifting, terrible gear hunting, then finally after driving in manual for a couple days: I was in the middle lane of state road 41 approaching sun lake road, the light turned green and my truck went nowhere. I immediately put my hazards on as cars were trying to get around me and I tried to shift into gear. I managed to find 4th after at least a minute (it skipped 1-3) and I limped to the side of the road where my dad later came with his trailer to pick it up. This is a known issue that Ford acknowledges with this particular year for the 10r80 (the cdf drum being the component that fails) yet they have done nothing to address it, even though they did fix it it in the 22+ models. My truck is now at a shop with 60,646. 1 miles where they are installing a new transmission for over $5,000 (awaiting for them to finish and I’ll provide the receipt / proof of purchase). Also, they couldn’t even put it in neutral to roll it off the trailer even after disconnecting the computer and manually shifting it from underneath the truck. I’m contacting NHTSA in hopes you can make some noise and file a complaint with Ford, they told me they won’t do anything since I’m out of warranty and there are no recalls for the transmission. It’s ridiculous that I’m dealing with this on just a 60k mile truck that’s a few hundred miles out of warranty and they know this is an issue.

5 Power Train problem of the 2018 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 07/02/2026

I believe this was a cdf clutch drum failure on the 10r80 transmission. Caused me to loose power midway through a signalized intersection. It is currently at the shop being diagnosed, but may be available for inspection upon a timely request. This issue put me and my family at risk because it caused my vehicle to stop in the middle of the road. No warning lamps, but the truck will no longer shift past 2nd gear.

9 Power Train problem of the 2018 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 07/01/2026

I am submitting this complaint regarding a serious and ongoing transmission safety concern with my 2018 Ford F-150 3. 0l diesel. The vehicle has repeatedly exhibited unsafe and unpredictable transmission behavior, including harsh downshifts at highway speeds, delayed gear engagement, slow transitions between gears, and abrupt jolting that can forcefully move occupants forward. These issues create a safety risk because the vehicle does not shift predictably during normal driving, including at highway speeds and during acceleration or deceleration. The vehicle was previously taken in for service due to these transmission concerns. At that time, the transmission fluid was found to be approximately 75% low. The dealer performed a software update; however, the transmission problems have continued and may have worsened since that repair attempt. Today, the vehicle displayed a transmission-related error stating: “the transmission control module has detected a concern when trying to shift to 4th gear. A failsafe logic disables 4th gear for the remainder of this key cycle. ” this warning indicates that the vehicle’s transmission control module detected a fault during operation and disabled 4th gear as a protective measure. This is a significant escalation from rough or delayed shifting, as the vehicle is now entering a failsafe condition that removes a gear while the vehicle is being driven. The condition presents a safety concern because the transmission may downshift unexpectedly, hesitate, jolt, or fail to provide expected acceleration or power delivery. This could be especially dangerous while driving at highway speeds, merging into traffic, passing, towing, or navigating traffic where predictable power and gear engagement are necessary. The abrupt shifting and jolting are severe enough to physically move the driver and passengers forward, creating concern for loss of vehicle control or a crash. The prior service action did not resolve the problem.

10 Power Train problem of the 2018 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 07/01/2026

Ford F-150 have a known transmission failure problem which causes them to have to be replaced with low mileage due to the cdf drum. This causes the transmission to hit hard while the operator is driving which could cause them to lose control. Ford is aware of the problem and has refused to fix it.

11 Power Train problem of the 2016 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 07/01/2026

The contact owns a 2016 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while at a complete stop, the contact attempted to accelerate, but the transmission seized in second gear. Additionally, while driving 50 mph, the vehicle suddenly downshifted to second gear, and the vehicle went into limp mode, with an orange wrench warning light illuminated. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 26v237000 (power train); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was contacted. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was 210,000.

Failure Date: 06/27/2026

Harsh and erratic shifting, unintended down shift and sometimes never wants to shift and task meter sounds like it’s floor but don’t go no where. Close accident when at intersection vehicle would go on our green light and another car thought we were letting him go then our truck gear caught and we almost hit them my husband and I had a lifetime power train warranty and dealership will not honor because I missed 2 oil changes by mileage (379 miles and 1200 miles another time). No hope from Ford as know this transmission 10r80 is crap.

18 Power Train problem of the 2017 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 06/26/2026

Failing transmission lead frame on a 2017 F-150 with a 6-speed transmission causing sudden, violent downshifts into low gears at highway speeds, risking severe rear-end crashes. On xxx, an authorized Ford dealership retrieved diagnostic trouble codes p0720 and p0722, confirming hardware component failure. The official dealership repair order explicitly states the transmission lead frame requires removal and replacement. This specific hardware failure is explicitly covered under Ford recall 26s28 / NHTSA campaign 26v237. Page 4 of the official part 573 safety recall report mandates that if a vehicle exhibits these specific codes prior to receiving the software update, dealers must replace the lead frame at no charge. The manufacturer and dealership are refusing to perform this mandatory safety remedy, citing 'advanced notice' status, leaving a verified unsafe vehicle on the road. 19 Power Train problem of the 2014 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 06/25/2026

Traveling at 65mph on I-275 in tampa while changing lanes vehicle suddenly downshifted to 1st or 2nd gear enough to cause the vehicle to jolt and squawk the rear tires. The vehicle remained in this state with elevated rpm's and gear indicator was blank. This has occurred on many occasions and is extremely dangerous. It has been an ongoing problem that Ford refuses to correctly solve. It's already been in for service under prior recall which hasn't really solved anything. The 2013 models had the same issue which Ford issued a replacement of the lead frame, yet now they continue to slap bandaids on with software patches. The software doesn't solve the problem of a garbage lead frame.

20 Power Train problem of the 2019 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 06/25/2026

10r80 transmission failure erratic and harsh shifting transmission has been evaluated and rebuilt by independent service center. Noticed roughly 2 weeks of harsh shifting before the shifting became erratic.

21 Power Train problem of the 2021 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 06/24/2026

Component/system affected: power train / automatic transmission. Description of safety issue: the transmission has recurring harsh and erratic shifting, most noticeable on the first drive of the day. Symptoms include slipping/flaring, delayed or failed upshifts, sudden harsh gear engagement, unexpected large gear changes, loss of power, and occasional operation as if stuck in 4th gear/limp mode. The issue has become severe enough that I have had to manually intervene and pull over. Specific safety incident: on or about June 24th, I was leaving my apartment complex and turning left onto a busy main street. As I approached and entered the turn, the truck was in 1st gear and I was pressing the accelerator, but the transmission appeared to struggle or delay shifting into the next gear. The vehicle did not respond normally, so I continued applying throttle to complete the turn. When the transmission finally shifted, it engaged extremely harshly and caused the truck to lurch forward unexpectedly into the intersection. I had to slam on the brakes to narrowly avoid colliding with another vehicle. This created a serious crash risk because the vehicle first had delayed/lost propulsion and then suddenly surged forward during a left turn across traffic. Safety risk: this defect can cause unexpected loss of motive power, delayed acceleration, harsh engagement, and sudden vehicle lurching while driving. This is especially dangerous when merging, turning across traffic, entering intersections, passing, or driving at highway speed. The problem occurs without a clear warning light or check-engine light, so the driver may not have advance warning before the transmission behaves unpredictably. I am reporting this because the 10r80 transmission behavior caused a near crash due to delayed acceleration followed by sudden harsh engagement/lurching into traffic, and because the failure appears consistent with a known valve body/cdf drum issue affecting Ford 10-speed transmissions.

22 Power Train problem of the 2014 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 06/23/2026

Hello, I recently brought my 2014 Ford F-150 (VIN: [xxx]) to the dealership regarding recall 24s37. The vehicle experienced the following symptoms: • check engine light illuminated. • wrench light illuminated. • intermittent loss of power. • abnormal transmission behavior. • intermittent no-start condition. • vehicle would only start after moving the gear selector. The dealership informed me that no physical repairs would be performed because the diagnostic trouble codes retrieved were different from those associated with recall 24s37. However, the vehicle continues to exhibit transmission-related symptoms, and I am concerned that the underlying condition may be related to or aggravated by the conditions addressed in recall 24s37. I am requesting that Ford review this case and determine whether additional diagnostic evaluation or repairs should be considered. However, they refuse to accept that the codes have anything to do with the recall, even though it is the same part and the affected sensor that is triggering the error codes on the scanner. They are asking me to pay for the transmission repair because the codes are not the ones approved for the recall, but based on the signs and symptoms the truck is showing, it is a chain reaction that triggered the previously mentioned failures. Thank you information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

23 Power Train problem of the 2019 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 06/22/2026

While driving at a low speed, when pressing the accelerator, the auto initially didn't respond, but then accelerated sharply after a delay (when the accelerator wasn't engaged). The transmission seemed to abrubtly shift up by 2 or 3 gears without warning requiring me to immediately depress the brake to avoid hitting the vehicle in front of me.

24 Power Train problem of the 2018 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 06/22/2026

When cold: - delays in shifts, sometimes up to a few seconds, hard jolt due to revs being too high once it finally shifts (really bad in 2nd gear, pretty bad in 3rd) - slight delay in overdrive gears sometimes (7th, 8th, 9th, 10th) after warming - delay upshifting into 4th and 5th almost always, even in manual mode - slight jolt downshifting into 6th at random: - gearbox gets confused and defaults to downshifting to 1st. This happens when accelerating. Has happened upshifting to 4th, 8th, 9th. When this happens, it will actually downshift to 1st when attempting to upshift to 4th. When this happens while attempting to upshift to overdrive gears, it does not actually downshift (money shift) to 1st, luckily. - might be slipping a bit in 3rd or 4th gear.

25 Power Train problem of the 2020 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 06/22/2026

My 2020 Ford f150 was diagnosed by a shop to have the well known cdf drum issue. This issue is very expensive to repair and have experienced several safety concerns while conducting daily drives to and from work or other locations nearby. The transmission will not allow you to accelerate while on the freeway making it impossible to merge safely out of the way or even just get up to speed safely. The truck will flare up in rpm but will not accelerate or shift into the next gear. Once it does it will do it very violently.

26 Power Train problem of the 2016 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 06/20/2026

The contact owns a 2016 Ford F-150. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 26v237000 (power train); however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The contact stated that the park(p), reverse(r), and drive(d) and gears 1-6 lights were consistently flashing. The vehicle revved at high speeds and unexpectedly downshifted; however, the contact could not determine what gear the transmission downshifted to due to the constant flashing lights. The dealer was contacted, and it was confirmed that the part was not yet available. The dealer referred the contact to the NHTSA hotline for assistance. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The failure was approximately 110,000.

27 Power Train problem of the 2018 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 06/19/2026

I think that Ford needs to a recall on these 10r80 transmissions, I was driving a week ago and suddenly I went to limp mode. Went to gear one now transmission is hesitating.

28 Power Train problem of the 2018 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 06/19/2026

Truck has reoccurring issue of shifting from 10 to 1 at highway speeds causing me to shift into neutral as to not wreck. No check engine light or trans light, which makes proving it to dealer is impossible. Only happens once every few months. Through forscan I can see the oss speed sensor drops voltage briefly then regains voltage. This is a very expensive yet very dangerous truck and Ford needs to be held accountable before someone dies. . . .

29 Power Train problem of the 2020 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 06/19/2026

I suspect a cdf clutch drum sleeve migration. This is a notorious manufacturing defect in 2017-2020 1080 units. The truck just passed the 60,000 mile power train warranty. A 2020 4x4 sport is a highly sought-after, higher-trim truck. I invested heavily in a premium vehicle and expected it to last well past 65,000 miles. My truck is at the group 1 Ford dealership in shreveport and the service manager stated I need a new transmission. Quoted $8,800. I can not afford this and would like it to be covered for helped paid for. The service manager told me to call customer service at Ford and ask for a goodwill case stating these transmissions are in a lawsuit currently and Ford made a replacement part for the specific transmission. The cdf drum. The truck up and down shifts while driving down the road randomly and is a safety concern. Hard shifting between 1-3 and 4-6 speed. The 10 speed transmission.

30 Power Train problem of the 2020 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 06/19/2026

Driving on freeway 10 speed transmission failed - hard knock and jerk, almost got in an accident. Gears 6-9 dead. Apparently this 10-speed transmission is a known issue, with many technical service bulletins issued, class action lawsuits, and angry customers. Ford refuses to issue a recall and the NHTSA refused to hold them to account. Something is broken - how can Ford make such a known, terrible important component to a vehicle that fails regularly - yet get away with it? I thought the NHTSA was supposed to protect us from these unsafe vehicles?.

31 Power Train problem of the 2018 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 06/18/2026

The transmission will shift from whatever gear it is to a random lower gear usually 1-4.

32 Power Train problem of the 2018 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 06/18/2026

The transmission in my f150 sometimes will down shift harshly when coming to a stop causing a sudden jolt that is very alarming. This does not happen very often. What is very consistent are these two symptoms. During acceleration it shifts very hard going to 3rd to 5th, skipping 4th all together. When accelerating up to highway speeds and merging the shift from 7th to 8th is delayed, and the engine rpms spike. The inconsistency in the acceleration makes me wary that an unalert driver may rear end me.

35 Power Train problem of the 2013 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 06/17/2026

My 2013 Ford F-150 (VIN: [xxx]) suffered a catastrophic rear-wheel lockup while traveling at highway speeds, mimicking a sudden, unprompted hard braking event. The vehicle's speedometer dropped to zero and the dashboard went blank. A certified Ford dealership has just scanned the vehicle and pulled diagnostic trouble code (dtc) p0722, confirming an output shaft speed sensor/molded leadframe failure under Ford TSB 16-0008. Federal records confirm there are 0 unrepaired recalls on this VIN because safety recall 19s07 (NHTSA campaign 19v-075) was completed two months ago. The software-only recall remedy completely failed to prevent this life-threatening transmission lockup. Ford corporate (case #[xxx]) and the dealership are refusing to replace the defective hardware due to mileage, despite the fact that a federally mandated safety recall remedy failed to secure the vehicle. "safety recall 19s07 was completed by an authorized Ford dealer two months ago, but following today's highway lockup incident, a different, separate Ford dealership officially scanned the vehicle and retrieved diagnostic trouble code (dtc) p0722, confirming a complete recall remedy failure. " information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
