1 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem of the 2012 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 06/29/2021

Going downhill last night in 5 pm traffic and my truck shifted into 1st gear by itself and would not shift into a different gear. I could have been killed let alone someone could have rearended me and there would be a safety issue let alone maybe another death. I put on my flashers right away, pulled to the side of the road, shut the truck off for a few minutes. Gathered my thoughts turned it back on and drove on the shoulder for a ways, and the truck went into gear no problem. Then I had to stop at the store, shut the truck off, started it when I got back in and it wouldn't shift out of first gear. Again a major safety hazard. No warning lights or messages - I do have video of last nights occurrence. There are many facets to this problem. I know that there is a customer safety number that is related to this however my truck has just over 150000 miles. I took it into Ford this morning and also talked with national Ford customer service and they said 10 years or 150000 miles. Actually 2 different representatives told me 2 different things, one told me it is covered and the 2nd told me it is not covered. My truck had 149000 miles on it when I bought it, shortly after it was stolen out of my driveway, and when I got it back it had umpteen things wrong with it, so it has been in the mechanic shop and body shop more than I have had it. Had I known that there was a safety issue I could have had it fixed before it was stolen.

3 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem of the 2016 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 04/23/2021

Transmission will suddenly downshift into first gear or will downshift out of overdrive at freeway speeds. Transmission will sometimes not downshift to first gear at a complete stop, and will not operate properly until engine is shut off and restarted. Problem is similar to previous 6r80 transmission recall. Problem has been reoccurring since 4/23/21.

4 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem of the 2013 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 04/17/2021

I bought this truck 04/16/2021 that has been updated with all of Ford's recalls. I felt comfortable with this purchase until I started experiencing major issues with the transmission on 04/17/2021. When I started my truck there was no check lights turned on so I put the truck into drive. As I was driving I noticed the trucks transmission was not shifting out of 1st gear on city streets. I pulled over restarted it and the problems went away. As I was driving down the highway I lost my odometer twice which made me have to pull over to restart the truck. As I was putting the truck into drive the trucks transmission jumped into 5th gear while I still had my foot on the brake. I turned around and as I was driving on the highway at 65 mph when I experienced a sudden downshift from 5th gear to 1st gear. Whatever Ford did for these recalls isn't enough, and the problems needs to be addressed more properly because it did not fix the problems the recalls were suppose to fix. I am scared to even move that truck anymore because I don't want to get into an accident or hurt someone because this problem wasn't fixed properly.

5 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem of the 2014 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 12/12/2020

2014 f150 ecoboost: while driving ~50mph, the vehicle abruptly downshifted to first gear causing my rear tires to lock up. I was able to control the skip and reduced my speed to pull to the side of the road. At that time, my vehicle would not shift out of first gear. I turned the vehicle off and restarted it to reset any electronic controls and the vehicle was able to drive normal again. Similar occurrences have happened intermittently, where the vehicle would not shift out of first after coming to a rest. Or the vehicle would remain in 5th gear, if I was already in motion when it acted up and would not shift down even if I came to a rest. From my research, this appears to be similar to the lead frame recall that has been issued for 2011-2013 vehicles. My vehicle was manufactured on 11/13, but appears to be outside of the recall timeframe.

6 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem of the 2013 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 12/11/2020

While driving my Ford F-150 on 12-11-2020 going about 40 - 50 mph my truck suddenly downshifted from 6th gear while driving down to first gear. This caused my truck to go into a tire squealing skid. I was lucky no one was around me. Once I got control and the truck slowed it still would not shift out of first gear. I pulled over and waited a couple of minutes and turned the vehicle off. Once I turned it back on everything seemed normal I was able to drive to my home a couple of blocks away with no problems. There I let the car sit over the weekend not driving it again until I took it to the dealership on 12-14-2020. Earlier that year on 6-25-2020 I took my truck into the dealership to do the software update which was supposed to eliminate the sudden downshifting in the 6-speed transmission that I have. From what I have experienced apparently the fix did not work. The service department claimed that the fix should have taken care of the problem and it had to be something else. They are currently running diagnostics to figure out what the problem is. I have also contacted the customer service department which said they could do nothing else unless Ford further opens recalls again for this vehicle. I was told all I could do is keep the receipts for the labor and repairs and hope that maybe I can get reimbursed in the future if the recall is opened again. This is a very serious issue which can also be life-threatening Ford needs to do what's right and repair these vehicles properly instead of going the cheap route and trying a software fix which only masks the problem temporarily. I am currently without any way to and from work at this time due to this problem. The dealership would not even give a loaner vehicle for my problems.

7 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem of the 2017 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 11/11/2020

I just bought this 2017 f150 from deacon jones Ford and 4 months later I'm having transmission issues. After driving for a little distance, when I stop and start driving again I notice the rpms go crazy and it won't shift out of 1st gear and all of the sudden it goes to 5th gear and jerks and goes back to 2nd gear and slowly goes up. I just have the transmission fluid changed at the dealership and two weeks later this starts. I tried researching it and notice Ford has some issues with 2017-2019 f150 transmissions. So I looked to see if this truck had already been inspected with the same issue and if it was fixed. I'm about to go on a 10 hour drive to tdy to a military base and I need to know if it's safe to drive and won't go in limp mod. Thanks joseph.

8 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem of the 2012 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 09/28/2020

Multiple times while in motion 45mph + (spontaneously) , orange wrench comes up on my dash, speedometer drops to zero, engine power is cut to almost nothing, and a few times at higher speeds 60mph +, the wheels lock due to transmission downshifting out of nowhere. This has happened on the loop, city streets, highways, it's random. I can only limp my way to a safe spot to pull over, turn engine off then back on and everything generally starts working again. Last night on a city road doing about 55mph it locked up again but refused to drop out of 5th gear though I was at a dead stop. Even turning the key of and on would not re set it. It finally got to 1st after messing with it and I got it home, hooked it to my obd2 reader and it is throwing a p0720 output speed shaft sensor malfunction code and my check engine light will not go off. I have attached a picture of the code it is now showing, and date of malfunction is most recent.

9 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem of the 2013 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 08/17/2020

While driving down the highway the truck shifted from 5th gear to 1st gear. . . The wheels seemed to have locked up as we did leave a skid mark on the highway. Nearly sent us through the windshield. . . Thank goodness for seat belts. Wrench symbol appeared on the console. Pulled over. . . Turned off vechicle, turned back on and showed in 1st gear. . Started driving and would not shift out of first gear and wrench reappeared. . . Powered off again and back on wrench disappeared. . . Seemed to drive normal after a couple miles wrench appeared again and we had no gauges on the dashboard operational except rpm. Dealership performed recall 19s07 for this known issue. . . On test drive it was still not resolved so they said they needed to do 19n01 but that this was only allowed as a warranty repair up to 150000 miles. I had 151866 when brought to the dealership. So I now have an unsafe truck with a known recall issue that Ford will not repair because I had 1866 miles more than their warranty. They want 800 for me to fix it myself which I must do and there is no guarantee that this will fix the issue. Ford should be obligated to fix issues tied to known safety problems with the vehicle. Who knows next time it does it someone could rear end me and be seriously injured.

10 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem of the 2013 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 07/22/2020

Truck was recalled for downshifting while driving. Truck was taken to classic Ford in shelby, nc where the recall problem was taken care of. Lately I have been having problems with truck where truck will not shift out of 1st gear. Have to stop, turn off ignition and truck works fine. Today while driving ,speedometer starts going crazy and truck downshifts to 1st gear, luckily I was only going 35 mph. I would hate to think what would happen if I was on interstate going 65 mph. Called classic Ford to schedule service, cannot see me until next week. When I described what was going on, they said they haven't heard of this problem. Have been researching on internet and I am not the only one having this problem.

11 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem of the 2013 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 07/03/2020

While driving vehicle suddenly shifted into 1st gear and flashed a wrench symbol and check engine light for code p0720. The vehicle lurched coming from a hugh rate of speed to shifting to first gear which almost caused a wreck. The vehicle would not shift out of first gear.

12 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem of the 2012 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 06/26/2020

The truck downshifts to first while driving and will not shift out of first gear, the speedometer stops working. Location was city street. After stoping and turning the engine off it seems to reset. I have had problems in the past and it was suppose to be fixed however it continues to be a problem.

13 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem of the 2012 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 02/28/2020

Traveling down the highway at 70 mph (posted speed limit) when without warning my truck downshifts to first gear. Loss of power and speed resulted in the downshift. I went from 70 mph to 35 mph on a major highway quickly. My entire dash, besides the tachometer, went out as well as a result of this downshift. I was lucky I was traveling early in the morning (about 530 am) and traffic was light. Or else I am sure someone would have hit me due to rapid deceleration. The truck was traveling straight and not in a turn. After this deceleration, I was barely able to manage to get off to the shoulder of the highway because my truck would not shift out of first gear. It had no power to move the vehicle at highway speeds. It also felt as though it had affected the rest of the power items on the truck, steering and brakes especially. It felt as though my power steering was not working and took a lot of effort on the brake pedal to get the vehicle to stop fully. The Ford recall # for this specific problem is 19s07, the NHTSA # is 19v075000. My vehicle is no longer covered under what Ford deemed as a "voluntary safety recall", repair estimates are $1185. I find it ridiculous this problem is a voluntary safety recall, the only reason I was not involved in a serious accident is because of the time of day I was traveling.

14 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem of the 2013 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 12/27/2019

I was driving on a highway going approximately 60 mph when it unexpectedly downshifted. My momentum violently jerked me forward, the tires squeeled, and the rpm gauge went up to over 6,000. Another issue is that it occasionally will not shift out of first gear. I will be starting from a stop and I'll be going about 10-15mph and if I don't let off the throttle the engine will just rev up past 4000 rpms.

15 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem of the 2013 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 11/12/2019

My 2013 F-150 will suddenly downshift while I am doing 25-35 mph. Sometimes it will not upshift from 1st gear. It may take several seconds or several minutes for it to shift out of 1st gear. When it does upshift again it will slam into the higher gear. Sometimes the speedometer stops working, the airbag icon comes on, the engine icon comes on, a wrench icon comes on, sometimes the display is a series of dashes and sometimes the display is blank. If I stop and restart the engine sometimes the symptoms go away and sometimes the icons remain visible.

16 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem of the 2013 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 10/25/2019

After the first incident with sudden down shifting of my transmission, I took my truck in to my local Ford dealership. I was informed that a new programming fix was available for the active recall. The "fix" was completed, and now about 3 weeks later the truck continues to downshift suddenly. Not only sudden downshifting, but during acceleration the transmission seems to struggle shifting out of first gear. My truck only has about 57k miles.

17 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem of the 2015 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 08/28/2019

The transmission drops out of gear and cannot be reengaged until vehicle is stopped shut off and restarted. Problem has increasingly gotten worse from a mild fail to engage after a three point turn around to current condition. Last most dramatic event occurred yesterday while on I-75 near lexington, pulling a travel trailer when it dropped out of sixth gear in a construction zone with a tractor trailer behind the truck. Vehicle went to idle, wrench light appeared. There was no throttle response and transmission would not reengage. Had to pull off the side of the road and shut vehicle down. Upon restarting transmission worked normally until reached destination. Two Ford dealerships have not been able to diagnose this problem. Only one error code has appeared, p0731. Transmission fluid was added and code was cleared. Problem was not resolved. Other dealership could not replicate problem with no codes present. Ford customer care has been contacted regarding this issue. Appointment made with local dealer. However, evident they do not know how to resolve.

19 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem of the 2017 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 05/12/2019

Original problem was transmission slamming into gear and slipping when accelerating. The truck was kept at agency for 21/2 weeks. Service manager told me that Ford instructed him to quit working on it. Problem of slipping still exist and recently the vehicle jumped out of gear when I was merging onto the interstate, I do not feel safe driving this vehicle.

20 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem of the 2012 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 05/06/2019

The truck often times will not shift out of 1st gear. The rpm will rise and the truck will accelerate quickly then slow back down. When it gets out of 1st gear it will often go back to 1st gear randomly. Wrench and check engine lights are frequent. Limp mode engages often and the dash will become inactive. Fuel economy screen will clear out and all information will be displayed as dash lines. I took the truck to Ford to have them look at it under the 16n02 recall and they would not cover it. The coverage only extends to 150,000 miles, but my truck has 163,000. The coverage only covers it if the truck is displaying symptoms and mine did not display anything until this last week.

21 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem of the 2011 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 04/12/2019

Stays in low gear and won't up shift. Shut truck off and after a few attempts it shifts. This has happened on several occasions. Once it did it while stop at a redlight. Went to pull out and it wouldn't shift out of low gear. Did it another time when I got it in and from a cold start ,put it in drive and it wouldn't shift out of 1st gear.

22 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem of the 2012 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 03/19/2019

On hwy 65mph accelerating speedometer reading went to zero, transmission auto downshift. Had to pull over restart and then both the speedometer and transmission worked. After this several starts the speedometer doesn't work and transmission won't shift out of 1st gear.

23 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem of the 2012 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 03/05/2019

My transmission was shifting out of 6th gear into 1st gear. This was updated by a computer fix that keeps it from shifting to 1st gear but into 5th instead. Ford has a customer satisfaction program 16n02 that addresses the same problems I am having and a fix for it. My truck was built at the plant indicated, in the time frame indicated and gives the engine codes as indicated by the bulletin. I have contacted them about it and despite all these findings am being told that it is not their problem to fix. My mileage is below the 150k threshold that is set for this warranty extension on the lead frame problem. Their fix to stop it from shifting to 1st gear reduces the chance for a major accident but their refusal to fix the problem in the lead frame still leaves this as a safety issue. A down shift at speed to 5th gear still causes an unindicated and uncontrolled slow down of my truck, the loss of speedometer is also apparently causing some problem with the passenger side airbag when this occurs as I MA getting a message to remove objects from the passenger seat when this occurs. My local Ford shop will not try to warranty this problem, I have made 2 different contacts at Ford concerning this and they all say it is not one they have marked for having this problem. I can't help that it is not one they thought might be affected, I can only say that it has been and can't get it repaired by them.

24 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem of the 2016 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 03/02/2019

When first turn the truck on and it's cold, the transmission will slip out of first gear into third and then into fifth. When you stop, the transmission slams back into first gear and jerks until it gets into second gear. Only does when the teuck is cold typically. The truck has been to the dealer four times to get repaired for this issue. I'm told that it's a programming issue each time. After the programming is reset, the transmission will function correctly for a few days and then the issue will start happening again.

25 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem of the 2013 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 01/29/2019

While driving at highway speed vehicle will lose power and mph will drop to 0 and will not shift out of first gear. The dash will display a wrench and the cluster will go blank with all dashes. Upon turning vehicle off and back on the dash will clear and the vehicle will drive for a period of time before the issue returns. This is a major safety concern as I had my child in the vehicle when this happened on the highway going 60mph luckily no one was right behind me or I would have for sure been rear ended. I did a code scan and recieve code 0722 which is the molded lead frame inside of the transmission. After doing research I come to find this is a common problem with the 6r80 transmission and there was even a recall on the 2011-2012 vehicles but the 2013 is not included. Through online forums and just common research this issue has affected vehicles all the way through 2014 and still no recall. My truck has 55,000 miles on it and was purchased brand new it is now out of warranty and Ford wants $895 dollars to replace the molded leadframe although this is a known issue affecting thousands of vehicles. It is a scary and dangerous concern that really needs to be addressed ASAP. I do not believe I should be liable for a defect that is known and specifically such a major issue that can cause a vehicle to lose power wheels lock up at highway speed.

26 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem of the 2013 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 01/24/2019

While driving at a speed of 60mph on the freeway, the transmission slipped out of gear and revved very high. Leaving me stranded in the middle of the freeway. All of a sudden the truck went back into gear, almost causing me to get rear-ended. This happened two other times while driving. Another time while driving, all the gauges went blank. I could not see my speed or any other indicator. After pulling over, I turned my truck off and restarted it with no issues. I now have my truck in the shop, and the list of issues keeps growing. I only have 62,000 miles and already seeing some major issues.

27 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem of the 2012 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 01/12/2019

Intermittent issues with driving downshifts and hard upshifts. Sometimes the f150 shifts from 1st to third under light acceleration and will not shift out of 3rd gear. Wrench light error comes on, air bag light comes on and the speedometer goes to zero and mileage counter all show dashes. Pulling over and shutting off the truck works to clear the wrench icon and regain speed and mileage reading but the shifting issues may or may not comr back immediately. Downshift to 5th while in motion and had it downshift from 6th hear to 1st on the freeway at about 70 mph which was scary. With this issue it scares me to drive due to the airbag light coming on at the time it downshifted to 1sr gear. If I would have gotten into an accident, would I have had no airbag deployments for me and my kids?.

28 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem of the 2013 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 01/02/2019

Tranmission will start shifting between 2nd and 5th gear while drive at any speed causing the tires to lock up and chirp. Other times the transmission will not shift out of 1st gear. Other times while driving 60mph+ the speedo needle will go to 0mph and transmission is unresponsive. In all cases the vehicle must be pulled over, tuned off and restarted to correct he issue. It is a safety concern when there is no safe area to pull off of the road. This has been an on going issue for a few months. Suspected lead frame failure.

29 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem of the 2013 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 12/30/2018

Several issues spanning 5 months and becoming more frequent: 1. Randomly from a stop F-150 will not shift out of 1st gear for 5+ seconds while revving rpm at 5,000+. 2. The wrench warning light indicator will display on dash pane and speedometer will read 0 mph while I am driving speeds of 45 mph. Tachometer will work as normal. To correct I have to pull over and restart my vehicle. 3. Latest scenario 12/30/18 while highway driving my F-150 will hard downshift to a low gear and toggle between high and low gears causing violent jerking experiences producing very dangerous traffic scenarios.

30 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem of the 2011 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 12/27/2018

While vehicle is in motion transmission goes into fifth gear and speedometer goes to 0. Also vehicle sometimes will not shift out of first gear upon accelerating.

31 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem of the 2013 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 12/23/2018

Vehicle downshifted from 6th gear to 3rd gear at 55 mph. After this happened, the vehicle would not shift out of 3rd gear. Shut off vehicle and let sit for 2 hours and then drove home, no issue. Called dealership to report issue. On the way to the dealership, vehicle downshifted from 5th gear to 2nd gear, locking up rear wheels. Vehicle did this 3 more times during the trip to the dealership. Vehicle is at dealership now.

32 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem of the 2012 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 11/19/2018

I have experienced four incidents where my vehicle downshifted from 6th to 1st gear. Twice on a highway while traveling 60-65, twice traveling 50 on a county road. This caused my back tires to skid and once on an icy road where I went into the ditch with no apparent damage to my truck. I have also experienced three incidents where the truck would not shift out of 1st gear when leaving a traffic light.

33 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem of the 2013 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 11/16/2018

Transmission would slip out of gear periodically. Dash would also reset.

34 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem of the 2013 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 08/29/2018

For the past 6 months I have had the same issues that others have described. There are several issues happening. 1. When coming to a stop then accelerating, most frequently after getting off highway/interstate the trucks rpms will rev up to 4000, but the truck will never shift out of 1st gear. I have to come to a complete stop and/or restart the truck before it will operate normally. 2. Again stop from off highway/interstate when accelerating the truck will slowly move and it will still be in 4th gear which will eventually get up to speed and start to act normal. 3. When driving down the road at 30-50mph the truck will shift down to 1st gear from 6/5th gear casing the rear tires to lock and skid slowing the truck down quickly. I was just able to get off the road in time to not cause an accident. 4. When driving down the road the truck will jerk like it down shifted and shows the wrench icon and then the speedometer drops to 0mph while still traveling down the road. The tachometer still works, but that is about it. I have to restart the truck before it will start working again. Had mechanic check for codes, but there was none. This behavior is very erratic and a significant safety hazard, I worry for my safety. There should be a recall for this issue.
