3 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2018 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 09/06/2020

While driving, there has been rough intermittent shifts/acceleration, particularly from a stopped position. I have noticed it happens between 5-7 gears. Vehicle will be stopped at a stop light, as you accelerate, the vehicle will go through first few gears with normal acceleration and pick up speed, the sudden jerking of the vehicle seems like it just did an engine break(?). Vehicle will be accelerating to 40+ mph and feel as if it did a sudden brake and decelerate rapidly to than resume acceleration. Additionally, when vehicle is parked, when switching between park and drive or park and reverse, the shift is sometimes rough as if the clutch was never engaged and it was forced into the drive mode. Not only will the be a large noise, but a slight jerk. Also, I have had my phasers replaced already due to loud engine noise.

5 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2018 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 02/04/2020

10 speed transmission has a pretty consistent history of shifting roughly, especially, shifting between gears 3 & 4. It actually fails to engage forward briefly and then makes a clanging noise before it shifts into 4th gear; in sport mode it will stick in 6th gear. I have reported these problems at least 4 times to shottenkirk Ford in jasper GA when I have had scheduled maintenance performed. Every time I've brought my truck in for service I was just told a different excuse and they found nothing wrong with the transmission. The most recent service the service department said my truck was 2 quarts low on transmission fluid and that should fix the problem. My most recent and most concerning incident occurred while I was driving down the interstate and suddenly there was a loud popping noise, the truck began to swerve because of loss of power and then it kept trying to shift in between gears and then I noticed white smoke coming from the rear of my truck. The cars that had followed me started to drop back because my truck was spraying what I believe to have been transmission fluid out. I was out of town and had to have the truck towed to a dealership in columbia SC and after they checked the dip stick for the transmission fluid and claimed it had too much transmission fluid and it was not a warrantied item and that my truck was fine to drive. This transmission problem has been quite aggravating but now it poses a serious hazard to me and my family.

6 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2013 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 10/15/2019

Was driving 2013 Ford f150 fx4 with ecoboost engine about 60 miles per hour when truck suddenly shifted into 1st gear and caused truck to rev rpm's and rapidly and unexpectedly to decrease speed due to shifting to first gear almost causing an accident on a city street. After the speed decrease, unable to get car into higher gear and drove at very low speeds to exit road. Turned car off and on and it not help. After about 5 minutes, car was able to drive but experienced the issue several more times driving to mechanic. Another family member experienced the same issue the day before, but did not realize the truck was shifting into 1st gear. Took truck to mechanic and ran diagnostics for $100 fee and was told me to take to dealership for a known issue. At the dealership, a "fix" was implemented, but the fix caused another issue and when the air conditioning started, the whole dash vibrates and make loud noises. Dealership still has truck trying to figure out issue of loud noise when turning on ac. Did not have issue with vibrating until the "fix" was issued. Nor did the mechanic notice the issue with the ac when it was taken in for a diagnostic before taking to dealership.

15 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2018 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 04/10/2019

My truck has 15,000 miles on it. The acceleration will run away frequently (press the pedal and there is a severe lag and lack of power). There will be random engine noise when decelerating around 45 miles per hour. Also, acceleration will be rough when going from 20-30 miles per hour just before the it shifts into a higher gear. I took this to the Ford dealer and they said there are no error codes on the trucks computer system. Also, the steering will be stiff or unaligned at random times. Please assist in getting these issues corrected.

Transmission downshifts hard, delays of power to rear wheels, clunking noise, shuddering. Been to dealership,3 times for transmission. Dealership said I need to drive the truck until transmission gets worse before they can fix it. Dealership said im wasting their time with warranty work. Ford will not take action to help. Transmission problems make the truck unsafe to drive along with its severe steering problems. Please someone please help me before myself or my kids or someone else gets injured due to this unsafe truck and negligent dealership and Ford.

19 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2018 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 10/14/2018

2,363 miles on the truck it downshifted on the hwy from 80 mph to 20 mph on its own, with a loud noise. Had to get in the slow lane so not to have a wreck. It is equipped with auto start, where the truck engine automatically stops at a stop sign or light and restarts on its own. The trucked shut itself off while in traffic and had to be put in park and restarted, almost causing a wreck. Took the truck back to the dealer again, when it made a loud noise and felt like we hit something when going 55 mph,the truck jolted we again got in the slow lane. Then when sitting in the driveway the motor started racing on its own not touching the excelerator. Had to turn off truck. We are afraid to take our grandkids in our new 2018 truck we are paying dearly for. The last time we took the truck to the dealer, they said there was nothing wrong with it. We are about to retire and wanted this truck to be our last, we have not even had it a year. We have done some checking online, we are not the only ones experiencing these types of problems.

20 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2018 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 10/11/2018

I purchased the truck new in 2018. During the past 20 months or so it has been at the dealer at least 5 different times for transmission problems. They update the software, clear codes and then state the vehicle will learn its patterns again. None of has helped. The vehicle has a hard shift from park to drive and then it does a clunking noise when it shifts the first 2 gears. Another issue: at times, possibly at least 20 times in 20 months, the vehicle will hesitate and go into a dead spot for about 1-2 seconds and the reengage, usually at slower speeds. This is very dangerous as it has happened when we are making a left turn. The last issue is that the vehicle at times is gear searching and very erratic, sometimes at 36mph the rpms are so low it makes a growling noise. By putting the transmission on sport mode it will keep the rpms up and mitigate the problem. I think the biggest issue with this truck and transmission is possible the software. The transmission never feels truly comfortable always displaying some type of discomfort or perhaps risk. We love the truck but Ford needs to truly step up and provide relief to this problem. My concern is safety and then cost once we run out of warranty. The truck just turned 31k miles and strongly considering displacing before it hits 36k.

21 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2018 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 09/12/2018

This truck has a very clunky transmission. I have taken to the dealership after purchase but they were not successful to correct the problem. This truck feels very unsafe to drive as it shifts very hard and causes it to jerk sporadically. It also makes a loud clunking noise sometimes when you start the truck as the truck engages the transmission.

22 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2018 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 09/08/2018

10 speed automatic transmission. Transmission makes noise, shifts hard when cold, bucks and surges at lower speeds, downshifts are harsh. Dealer states this is all normal behavior for this transmission. Worst automatic I have ever owned.

23 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2018 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 08/08/2018

10-speed transmission: the transmission shifts very badly. Jerky shifting and often times the truck is sluggish when starting from a stop, often times to the point of acting like the engine is about to die. The only way to partially correct this issues is to drive aggressively and take off from a start with more throttle than one would normally want to. Occasionally you can hear/feel a knock from under the truck - underneath the driver's seat when you start the truck and place the transmission in drive. Other times when you start the truck and quickly place the transmission in drive the engine will cut off all while your right foot is still on the brake pedal. On one occasion while I was driving through an intersection on a highway at a slow speed (3 - 5 mph?) behind a car which made a right hand turn, I started accelerating and a very loud bang noise occurred that sounded like two cars hitting one another and a hard shake was felt. I checked my mirrors because I thought someone had rear-ended me. Just this terrible 10-speed transmission. All of what I have described is after taking the truck to 2 different Ford dealerships. All they have done so far is to re-install software. I plan to take it back to a dealership for the third time hoping that maybe someone might test drive it and actually drop the transmission oil pan and actually look at the transmission. Maybe if I am lucky the transmission will self-destruct.

24 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2012 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 06/11/2018

Tl-the contact owns a 2012 Ford F-150. The contact stated that the transmission is bad. At 65 mph or more the transmission will down shift. The contact was on the highway and the vehicle began to slow up. They had to quickly get off on the next exit before being struck from behind. The contact stated that they have tried to cut the vehicle on and off for more than a few attempts. If th techometer was not set then the contact would turn the vehicle off again. The transmission reset it's self then the trainsmission would be fully function. The transmission made abnormally violent noises while shiting gears. The warning lihgt did illuminate breifly. All the gauges on the dash would light up and flicker. The vehicle was taken to the contacts home then the vehicle was taken to star Ford Lincoln (818) 956-0977 1101 s brand blvd, glendale, CA 91204. The vehicle was diagnosed and there was no descision on what the failure was. The codes just could not be read. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed and they could do nothing. The contact has zero recalls. However is still showing symptoms of NHTSA campaign number:16v248000. . The failure mileage was 164,000. Jw.

25 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2011 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 05/29/2018

Transmission will suddenly and intermittently shift from drive to low which causes and sudden down shift causing a very loud noise. I have had the truck into the Ford dealership four times and the truck still downshifts without notice. This occurs on any city street asphalt or on a dirt semi improved road in motion. I am concerned because while towing a travel trailer the truck may downshift and cause the truck and trailer to jack knife injuring or killing the occupants Ford has acknowledged problems but the final fix remains elusive. Ford should replace the eight speed with a new 10 speed transmission. A class action lawsuit should ensue.

26 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2013 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 04/14/2018

On April 14, 2018 I was driving my 2013 F-150 on the highway approximately 70mph in the rain when the back wheels suddenly locked up and I abruptly began stopping and I lost control, fishtailing to the left and right (almost to a spin), barely missing vehicles around me and the wall to the left. The car behind me somehow veered around and missed me too. As this was happening the truck was making a loud noise as it automatically slowed down. I somehow made it to the side of the road where I parked and shut the truck off and tried to settle down and gain my composure (. . . It was scary, I thought I was going to die from this incident!). I restarted the truck and slowly began drive. It seemed to drive ok so I decided to take the truck to the dealer for service. As I was driving cautiously, well below the speed limit on a 40mph road the engine then shut down and I could see a screen appear with "low oil pressure". I glided to a parking lot and had my truck towed to the dealer where I purchased the truck (suburban Ford of waterford michigan). The dealer said there was a knock in the engine and said it threw a rod. They said the engine failure was the result of the wheels locking up. I researched and found the exact same issue on 2013 F-150's with the transmission automatically downshifting to a low gear causing the rear wheels to lock up. The dealer said they were aware of this and said there is a recall for this on 2011 and 2012 F-150's for this but no recall presently active on the 2013 F-150. I purchased a full warranty for the truck when new but the truck is just out of warranty at 110k miles. The dealer said they could provide a refurbished engine for $10,000. I've been going back and forth with Ford and the dealer at this point. This is a very dangerous life threatening issue. . Read more...

27 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2017 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 02/20/2018

First event: while I was driving back from the countryside on a two way road single lane -, I overtook a big truck on an uphill area, and all the sudden my truck died. Lost all the power and I had to make an emergency maneuver to avoid the big truck I was overtaking and also the car that appeared at the curve ahead. It was close. I almost crashed. After calmed me down, I step out of the truck, opened the capot while the engine was idling and making this huge valve noise. I took my phone and recorded a video. Some component on a side of the valve cover was moving and making that noise and all the sudden, I smelled gas, looked down the scape manifold and saw gas all over it. I ran back to the cabin and turned the engine off, took the extinguisher and ran back to the capot. Fortunately nothing happened. Second event: while driving on the highway, with the cruise control on at 120 km/h, on a pretty flat area, the gear shifted from 10 to 7 with no reason at all, and I felt like the truck started to activate the brakes. The highway was clear in front of me. No car or obstacles were near the front of the truck. Seconds after that, the engine started to fail, dropping the rpms like those old mechanical carburetor stuck with a dirt and suddenly, all got back to normal. Fortunately was almost reaching the toll control to access to my city. So I slowed down to 50 kms/h, put my foot on over the brakes and started to press it very gentle. Suddenly and with no warning, the truck sped up itself full gas and I had to Dodge a car that was in front of me driving on the line to the toll and press the brake pedal very hard. Several lights invaded the dashboard; low coolant, check engine, the dash board dimmer light and others that I couldn't saw on this fast flash of lights. It was like the cpu was crazy. After that, truck went back to normal, but several obd2 errors got stored.

33 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2013 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 10/02/2017

Multiple severe transmission issues: 1. Suddenly dropping from 4th to 1st gear, causing sudden decrease in speed, screeching of tires, and passengers in vehicle to be thrown forward. 2. Erratic speedometer. While driving at highway speeds, speedometer will drop and start to jump between approx 15 mph and 65 mph; this is followed by a very large clunking sound. 3. Vehicle stays in too high gear. Engine and transmission run in higher gear than should be; noise and vibrations can be heard/felt in vehicle. 4. Transmission will not engage and shift into proper gear from a stopped position. Engine revs high, but truck barely moves. This is a major safety issue (1st issue noted). It has been identified by multiple other owners through internet searches. Ford is aware of the issue. Their standard diagnostics do not pick up the issue, but when they contact escalated service engineers from corporate they tell the dealer to try a few other tricks to see if it is what they suspect. There is a known flaw that they will not publish. This repair is supposedly the wiring harness and lead frame that needs replacement. Have had the truck into the dealer 7 times for transmission repairs and finally after them keeping the truck for 3 weeks they have identified the issue. Customers services says there is nothing they can do to help me but they will make note of the concern. There should be a safety recall on this and I'd be happy to provide any more info you need. I have service records showing the truck has been in the shop many times with no success. I do not have final service history from plattsburgh Ford yet, but will by end of the week and can upload or send then as needed. . Read more...

35 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2012 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 06/23/2017

I have taken my truck in to the dealership for 2 years now on multiple occasions with a loud screeching noise coming from the transmission. The dealership replaced many parts outside of the transmission per the recommendation of the warranty company. The truck is now not in safe driving conditions. It is now dropping down in first gear at 65 mph. I see where there was a recall on 2011-2013 select vehicles with the same problem. The shifting down to first happens all the time now and has put me in a difficult situation on the highway with nearly crashing. When it downshifts at speeds between 45-65 it will not continue to drive safely, it will only go at low speed in a jerking motion. The service director at capital Ford in charlotte, nc dealership where I bought it from said that they have made many attempts to fix it but have not yet pin pointed the problem. The truck is now out of warranty and is stating that I will have to pay for a new transmission. Please advise.
